The solder pads on that upright daughter board look much easier to attach kynar wires to, than the pads of the blob chips! So if I done that bodge, OOPS (I mean repair/mod!) I would of soldered as many of the wires to the base of that daughter board as possible. Also, I would have used screened cable to make the connections to the audio input of those amp chips. But you did it Andrew, you saved the radio. Well done mate... Ian.
+banjax66 There are people I'm sure who would find it useful to keep this system going, but for me it's a pile of junk. FM radio, CD multi changer and DVD sat nav and no aux in 2017 is a joke compared to the full android system I can just swap in 😂
Andrew mate, With your intelligence, why cant you add an AUX input? More to the point, why would you want to?? An AUX is for teenagers to plug in their MP3 players and mobile phones... I am 51 and I don't want to listen to teenagers talking in a language on their mobile phones that I can't understand. Neither do I want to listen to the crap music they play. MY girlfriend has teenage daughters and when they communicate with me (and that's not very often) It just sounds like grunts and groans.... incomprehensible to an old man like me!! LOL. Ian.
+banjax66 I like to be able to listen to my audio books and GPS while driving and to be able to safely take a call on the move. Having that capability and not having to take the phone out of my pocket is a boon, however, the integrated dash cam, reversing camera and video to the rear seat upgrade makes it a no brainer. Having driven the latest Tesla I can attest that an tablet on wheels is the best approach of everything just works, hopefully it will encourage other manufacturers to reduce the clutter in their vehicles. All those useless buttons!
LOL @ extra static-y jumper on :o) A bit unorthodox, but that's the sort of repair I would do on that unit too =D I would be tempted to drill holes somewhere for the mounting of the two chips though. Last thing you want is the adhesive pads coming loose from temperature cycles and one of those amplifiers floating around inside. Overall a nice creative fix to a problem that would in 99.9% of cases result in the unit being scrapped for parts - love it!
:o) Great job though, as I say - would likely have been binned without that creative fix! Hard to believe the way they assembled the board with the original amps there - disposible design! Too many modern products with no emphasis on future supportability =/
+GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods The engineering of the individual modules is really pants, not sure who actually made it. If you haven't seen the videos yet, eventually I ended up with a system I was happy with 😄

+banjax66 It's a differential signal, I'm not sure it would be worth the screened cable. But it works fine. Now I am going to scrap it 😂
Why scrap it now you have fixed it? Was it just the challenge? LOL...
Ian.

+GadgetUK164 - Retro Gaming Repairs & Mods You need the static field to catch and stray electrons to push the smoke back into the wires 😄

Pity you didnt bolt the power amp chips to the inside of the back panal, a better chance of keeping cool.
Silly boy lol :-D
