It suggests both parties are wanting that communication and seek some element of truth rather than an internet Jerry Springer verbal slap fight for views. If both sides can't agree on the basics then there's not much to be done with a broader discussion. Everyone just ends up seeming crazy to the other party. People go on to base their identities, influence and sometimes income around these personas. For me, it's kind of baffling and tiring which, I guess, makes me a boomer in spirit now. Ideally the internet should be stripping away of pretence but like everything, guess there's the good and bad with each innovation.
If anything, the early 90s were the start of the race tensions, at least in my lifetime. "You're so white" was a common insult. It's only gotten progressive worse since then.
