Tai Lung: "I Was Lied To My Whole Life" 🐆 Lord Shen: "I Was Exiled By My Parents" 🦚 Kai: "I Was Betrayed By My Best Friend" 🐃 Chameleon: "I Too Short" 🦎 Wait the chameleon is the evilest of them all, she made them make the 4th unwanted movie and ruined the kungfu panda franchise
Tai Lung Intro: Escapes an isolated prison with 1000 guards all on his own😲 Lord Shen Intro: Takes down 2 KungFu masters and kills the city council overlord with his own invention.😳 Kai Intro: Fights and captures the creator of KungFu himself😱 The Chameleon Intro: Infiltrates a city council meeting and pushes one down the stairs. 😒
Here are my issues with her: 1. She isn’t evil enough. All we get to see is her trapping other _villains_ and kicking some dude down a flight of stairs. The only weight we get is a vision Po has partway through the movie. You know, just *telling* us what could happen if a villain wins isn’t good enough, actually let us see it in action. Otherwise, there are only artificial stakes. 2. She doesn’t have a set-in-stone palette. All of the other villains had a colour representing them. While sure, she always has light blue ideas, there is not enough imagery using it. 3. Her motive is stupid. Being rejected for being “too small” doesn’t work in a universe where Mantis and Shifu exist, so it feels that they only wrote the Furious Five out of the movie to excuse it (that, and they didn’t want to pay the celebrities to voice them). Even then, everyone in Juniper City knows who Shifu is, sooooo…..
Every other Kung Fu Panda villain had some connection to the main characters: Tai Lung Shifu, Shen Po, Kai Oogway. The new villain breaks this streak and to make matters worse gave her a backstory that made no sense at all claiming her size was the reason Kung Fu masters turned her away despite Mantis, Viper, and Shifu proving the contrary. An easy fix for her character could be to make her more intimidating not just pushing a guy down some stairs, and give us a flashback or something showing us how hard she trained for kung fu, but was shown disapproval by all the masters, even going to the Jade Palace and seeing Oogway or Shifu not accept her. And make her size NOT an excuse.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiastBut she is also a new character, the other villains had connections with characters present from the first film like Shifu, Po and Oogway
Yet you don't tell why its valid.@@sammyboy_samik3554 being small isnt a valid reason to be a villain, and if it wasn't the case then it's just meaningless dialogue + mantis is way smaller
She does make Kai look like a masterpiece. I agree the shapeshifting is just a gimmick. They could have given the explanation that without the person's specific ki/spirit, the Chameleon suffers higher fatigue when shapeshifting. It provides drama in that she's running out energy and needs to absorb spirits immediately. Edit: I want to make it clear I consider Kai 8-8.3 out of 10 in terms of villain scaling. So Kai isn't considered terrible by me. But in comparison to the Chameleon, Kai is elevated to 9-10. But that's just me.
Its not that kai is bad or anything. Hes just not fleshed out as much compared to shen and Tai Lung and is treated like a joke + his motivation is not really explained And this is coming from someone who likes Kai and is my favourite villain of the franchise @Bazooka652
If they didn’t want the furious 5 in the movie then open with the chameleon taking them all out, and then po could also have to effectively fight his old foes
That’s a good idea but wouldn’t work with what the movie had stablished. The Kameleon could shapeshift into other people but their techniques come from the spirit, which in the movie she mentions needing Po staff in order to steal it. Basically, she’s super weak until she absorbs Tai Lung essence towards the end of the movie. So if a scene like you suggest would have taken place, the Furious 5 would have trashed her completely as she could only look like Tai Lung back then, but couldn’t copy his martial arts.
@@Ebh55. I'll explain every point in this video and why it's wrong 1. All tell, no show intro - Her intro was good because it fit her character in the story. She uses gimmicks instead of doing some impressive crazy feats like Kai. The whole point of the attack is to trick and lure Po and even after Zhen told Po about the Chameleon... it was still her plan and another trick testing Po's emotions as an incoming spiritual leader like Oogway. That's the whole reason she's a Chameleon and not some other animal, she works intelligently to get to power. 2. A villainous gimmick - She doesn't take a spirit, that's what Kai did because they are already spirits, no longer mortals, she just steals Kung Fu skills with her sorcerer skills. And no, she wasn't imitating Poe and his abilities. She matched him because she had the combined abilities of all his villains. Her ability to shapeshift is her sorcerer ability, but their skill does not come with it. And I'll explain why she changed shape into Po later in another point of yours. I really don't understand the point of "why didn't she form into Kai or Shen", why should she? All the villains served as major threats to Poe, so what was your point? And the scene at the table shows us perfectly what is special about her, the feint. With just her shapeshifting ability, she can fool anyone and you never know who is up against you. Definitely better than just walking in. 3. Am unfocudes goal All these small tasks of hers literally lead to her big plan. Shen also had to do this: 1- Steal metal to create his perfect weapons 2-Erase all pandas out of paranoia All these small tasks lead to his grand plan to take over everything. Same with Chameleon: 1-Get the staff to access the spirit realm 2-Get enough metal to build cages for the spirits 4. No personal ties with the hero - Her connection with Po was really big and it was pointed out in the movie itself. She represents the exact opposite of Po. They both made it to the top, but only one can remain because of their different ideology. Both Po and Chameleon were shamed for their physiques, but Po's love for Kung Fu and his heart made him overcome it and prove himself as a dragon warrior. Chameleon wanted to learn Kung Fu because she saw Kung Fu as a powerful force, so her whole plan is to steal Kung Fu from other villains. After being rejected, unlike Po, she found an easier and faster path to Kung Fu, and now in their prime, there can only be one left. That's the whole reason why she turned into Po during their fight. She presents the most dangerous challenge, all of Po's bad past, which really tests Po's mindset as the next spiritual leader, which is symbolism of the movie, to move on from the past and accept that it's okay to do so. 5. No dirty hands - I don't even have to say much. She is literally a chameleon. Her narrative is that she is a cheater and a liar, she even made up rules for it, which Zhen learned at her behest. 6. Too small for Kung Fu? - Believe it or not, being small is a valid reason. Mantis wasn't going to get trained until he had proven himself with the rest of the Furious 5 and even Shifu pointed out how small he was, but he was already deadly skilled before his training. Even Po was discriminated against for being a fat panda by both Shifu and Shen. Not every Kung Fu master had the mindset of Oogway, and there were hardly any true small Kung Fu masters. And that's not why she turned evil anyway. 7. A hollow shell - Not every villain needs a backstory unless it fits with the character's narrative and plot. Chameleon's story was supposed to be the opposite of Po, pure evil, no sad tale of betrayal or banishment. They only mentioned that she was rejected from Kung Fu to understand her motives why she tries to steal Kung Fu from others, it wasn't even a backstory at all and that's ok because not every character has to be broken, it's realistic that some people are simply born cruel and evil. 8. A copy paste villain - They are not even remotely similar, she steals their abilities to accomplish something. Kai steals chi itself because he's like an addict, "the more you take, the less you have". They have a completely different symbolism. The symbolism of the 3rd movie is spirituality, so Kai basically steals spirits. The symbolism of the 4th movie is to move on and not live in the past, so Chameleon basically embodies all of Po's past villains as the ultimate challenge for him to become a spiritual leader. 9. A forgettable knockout - The whole story of how Po easily defeated Chameleon was because he held back. He truly became a spiritual leader and left Zhen as another dragon warrior to learn and basically teach her like Oogway did when he held back against Kai in the spirit realm to teach Po, once she learned her lesson Po defeated Chameleon. 10. Not intimidating - That's totally subjective if you didn't find her as scary and brutal as Kai for example, but she was definitely scary, factually speaking, the shapeshifting represents the fact that she embodies all of Po's past villains as I mentioned. it fits her narrative.
Here is how i would fix chameleon There are many different animals with different styles of kung fo that compliments their body However there was the chameleons who simply couldn't learn ANY style of fighting They weren't big enough They weren't strong enough They werent fast nor agile enough They weren't durable enough They simply couldn't be martial artists They only had one thing...the shapeshifting ability.the only way to survive for them was to throw away their original body and permanently change their identity wich they didint want to.. but they were too weak..so they decided to learn somthing else..sorcery and magic..with their chi...they could minuplated the five chinese elements (fire.water.earth.wood.metal) and with that they became unstoppable and no longer needed to hide..but they were recognised as threats and were wiped completely..thats at least what everyone thought...but a few chameleons changed and fled..they no longer could do live as themlesves and had to go into hiding forever..BUT... generations after..a chameleon decided to put an end to this hell for chameleons and create a place where they can be themselves a place they can call home. Chameleon instead of having the ability to steal kung fo she can be a sorcerer! The way po is challenged in this movie is to find a way to achieve peace for chameleons...a way to have a happy ending for everyone..he IS becoming the spiritual master...his challenge is to learn how to be one! (Sorry for my bad English)
Fun Fact Kai didn't make a Tai Lung Jombie because his chi was so powerful, he could easily break free and turn on him, same with Oogway So an actually cool twist would be if Chameleon tried to take control of Tai Lung, she would lose her mind and Tai Lung would hijack her body and her powers. And Pull a frigging toji shibuya arc
Like instead of her backstory being “too small” why not “too weak?” Like for example all her life she tried to master kung fu but every dojo she went to she could never catch up for the hopes she wanted while everyone around her was growing kung fu skills she couldnt even do the basics, every master had told her she will never be a become anything in kung fu and sometimes her masters even called her a waste of a student, that way the chameleon actually have a reason to study sorcery and why she wanted the powers of other kungfu master.
They could of made it so that she gets rejected from having evil intentions of using kung fu instead of being called "small" . Then she reaches out how to shapeshift to not only change physically from shape shifting, but also mentally as she couldn't handle being rejected to learn kung fu. And later, she could have gotten revenge on the masters who rejected her, to later all of kung fu since she feels like if she can't learn it, then no one can.
Even if the TV series isn't considered canon, they had a shapeshifting villain already - Tong Fo. At least he was an animal more commonly associated with Asia, a loris, and his shapeshifting was due to a magic artifact he stole, not some inherent ability.
Agree wholeheartedly Shen is an amazing villian, but do not consider him inherently evil (may be charitable). A noble in a world without media, his entire life was the palace, his only interactions outside the family his guards and the teachers preparing him for the throne. Only to find out he was going to be a failed leader, losing the city, the palace, even his life to an unknown Panda. And so the teenaged Shen pursued the childishly simple solution of 'destroy panda before panda destroys me,' unphased by the human cost because he doesnt even know it. Expecting praise for solving a problem, his birthright was taken from him, and he spent the next 20 years turning his potentially mundane arms hobby into a means of revenge. "My parents wronged me. And I? I will make it right." (Notice the shock on his face when the soothsayer finally gets him to understand why he was banished, before he recomposes himself, accepting its too late to turn back?) So much could have been different for so many if bro had a friend. Havent seen 4 yet, but your reasoning seem sound, and depressing.
As the most evil: Lord Shen Broken: Tai Lung Wanting power to himself: Kai And the villain that doesn’t know one bit of Kung fu because she was small to learn: The Chameleon If Kung fu panda 5 happens they better put the furious 5.
Kung Fu Panda villains intros Tai Lung- escapes from a prison, beating essentially a whole army of guards in a badass manner Shen- faces three Kung Fu masters, killing one of them in the process Kai- beats and captures Oogway Chameleon- gently pushes a guy down some stairs
I want to add that Tai Lung escaped from a prison SPECIFICALLY made to keep him imprisoned, which is why he was trapped for so long. That's what makes him even scarier, that despite being unable to train, he improved his body, skills, and even his own mindset in order to escape. That is insane!
So, the Chameleon is basically Shang Tsung without understanding what made him interesting as a character in the first place besides being a 'shapeshifter'.
If I was writing her motives, I would say, people said she couldn’t be good a kung fu because she has no style that can be good at. So she learns shapeshifting and gain as many kung fu styles and want to have them all. And when she goes to her master to shows what she learns. Let say oogway said, that is not her style, so she copy him, but he beat her, because she doesn’t use the full powers of the kung fu and she runs off, she brings the dead back temporarily to copy their kung fu since she can copy them at a look. So her beef with Po is shitting on Oogway chosen. Because she believes she is strong enough to surpass him. She wants to be dragon warriors because she can use all of the styles. And to get to po, she fights the furious 5 and wrecks them with so many styles. And when she fights po. None actually works, so when she copy po, she couldn’t copy what made him special. So she when po tries too tell her what oogway was trying to tell her, she reaches a new level of kung fu, where she fights as herself, her own styles with her own power and she did gave po more trouble and she gets defeats, but doesn’t leave in anger, but leaves in humility and got humble and is defeated and thanks po. When she brings the villians back, they have their own redemption arc.
Mantis, monkey, craine, viper, all of the masters that are just master + insert animal: Not saying your wrong but it's not something specific to this movie or that character
Chameleon’s motives for becoming a villain make zero sense. With the previous three villain that made some form of sense in regards to their character or background. Whether their motives are complex or not. Chameleon’s origin story isn’t even explained and her motives are just stupid.
I'm ok with her wanting to conquer the nation, but it doesn't make sense her motivations. She was small? Master Mantis, Viper and Shifu are hella small, and they all fight, she could easily learn martial arts and use her shapeshifting abilities as part of her fighting prowess. And she didn't needed to ressurect the villians, she could get everything just by training, Tai Lung has skill and that "paralysing touch" was acquired by training, and Shein had his feathers as a "technic".
Tai lung: orphaned and turned into master shifus greatest warrior, though he wanted to be the dragon warrior, it got to his head and ended up becoming the monster that shifu trained, he wants evil, but a broken individual Lord shen: one of if not the best villain in Kung Fu panda, followed a dark path that sealed his fate, committed genocide on pandas to guarantee his future but returned and murdered one of kung fu's greatest masters with a cannon, he used what was meant for peace, turned fireworks into a weapon of war, his vision ended up killing him Kai: ugways brother in arms ( sorry if I spelled the names wrong ), his grief and then greed for power got the better of him and stole the Chi for himself but was sealed into the spirit realm, he is and had a big feel and impact in the beginning. Chameleon: just a copy and paste of all 3 villains combined and just....doesn't makes sense
Many don't understand Kai because most of us haven't been to war. He was on the battlefield for most of his life and he had to survive. That ideology stayed with him and when Oogway was wounded he sought more power to prevent it from happening again. He saw the power of the Pandas and wanted it for himself that's why why he is considered the weakest.
Why Kai is consider weak? For me he was AWESOME. Yes he wasn't as strong as Shen and Tai Lung but he was up there. Chameleon is so generic she doesn't even HAVE a name. She just chameleon her species. LAME!!!
Actually, Kai is stronger than Tai Lung, you can see after he takes Monkey and Viper, Kai has Tai Lung's chi. The reason why he is considered the weakest is because his backstory is never properly explained, we don't know how he learned chi and why he wanted it, and he isn't as manipulative as Shen and as motivated as Tai Lung.
It comes down to expectations. After Lord Shen, People had high expectations for the next villain. Thinking it'll be something so good that it might become the greatest villain in cinematic history. Kai... wasn't that.
7:17-7:21 I mean, having someone else do the dirty work makes sense for some villains, like a mob boss type or a villain that isn't physically imposing but cunning and manipulative.
I noticed in the clip at 10:41 that, even though there was no audio, there was no struggle from The Chameleon. They were not struggling to get free or screaming "NO NO NO", they just sitting there being taken freely into the spirit realm. That's what looked forgettable about the scene. Now I never watched the movie, so I would never know, but maybe I should so I can spot these things you mentioned.
Love your passion for and knowledge of the Kung Fu Panda films dude, subscribed! Chameleon had so much potential, so many scenes/concepts where she could've been set up as an interesting character, but the greed of the director Mike Mitchell ruined any chance of that (the co-director is NOT included, she's a gem who did her damndest to keep things *slightly* true to the original). Profits over powerful storytelling is his personal motto
I would love if she would be able to, as a newer author, be shown slinking around as she tries to get closer and closer to the location she wants to burn by being sly, quick, and show her using every object or person to her advantage by shapeshifting. It'd be maybe a bit more powerful than just 'Lol get burned!!! >w
I really think they could have gone a little kid friendly creepy with her. A character who can blend in and be anybody? Show her slinking in the dark, like you said, knocking people out people and becoming them! Imagine if she had beaten the furious five and turned into one of them in order to get close to po, to lure him in and trick him to giving her the staff, then Po opens a closet or something and finds his friends are tied up. If she's meant to be a powerful liar and fraud, they should have shown it more! If the fox character was so necessary, they could have a mother Gothel and Rapunzel type relationship, where she's manipulated and convinced her that the world is evil and it's kill or be killed, and again, if this plot point is so important, Po can actually EMOTIONALLY show her that it really isn't. I think they did try to do this in the movie, but it was just done so poorly, really disappointing :(
I agree with you my friend! The Chameleon just uses these powers for fun! If it was me I would’ve used the according. I would’ve definitely used General Kai to round them up and steal their chi. Ben 10 goofs around sometimes, but at least Ben, Kevin 11, and Albedo uses their Aliens at a specific moment. For example when they need to Speed up, they know they need to transform into Rush or Xlr8. And with Lord Shen, people knows how much of a threat he is. Someone who is much for feared than even Tai Lung. lol! You can imagine how much fun all of the villains in the Spirit Realm are getting a kick out of the Chameleon just talking about her and laughing at her.
Alright, now this is my plan for kung fu panda 6: For the Roles behind the scenes: Director: Joel Crawford Co-Director: Jennifer Yuh Nelson Producer: Stephanie Ma Stine Art Director: Mike Mitchell (yes its a thing) Writers: Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger ----------------------- Alright, thats all the roles for behind the scenes, now ima tell you the backstory first of kung fu panda 6 (this is just how i wish it was) this is for the villain btw [Do note that the opening is pretty similar to Kung Fu Panda 2]: *Long time ago, a family of eagles moved into a village along with their son. They lived there happily, till one day invaders came and invaded their place, the eagle’s family hided their son in a small box. After the invasion, their son was the only one to survive, and he was lonely and hungry for 2 days till a group of knights arrived and adopted the son, the emperor of the kingdom made a election of who will take care of the young eagle. The sparrows won the election and took care of the boy, Over time the young eagle grew and became a warrior, he protected the kingdom and helped with the knights in the war. He had his own chinese temple. Everyone admired and loved him, Till one day, the eagle’s assistant showed him a picture of a concept art of a flying machine, the eagle approved it and showed to the emperor. But the emperor denied the concept art because he was worried that it could start some wars and some conflict. But the eagle’s pride and ego over took him and walked back to his chinese temple and ordered his vultures to build the flying machine, After months had passed by. The flying machine was built, but instead of using it for good. The warrior used the flying machine and tested it on 10 different cities, villages and towns. When the eagle came back to the kingdom, the emperor was upset and disbelieved, along with the eagle’s adopted parents, he was banned of the kingdom forever along with his assistant and vultures. But the eagle told them he will made his empire and then expand it though China.* ---------------------- Okay, now that’s the end of the backstory but im not done yet, i will tell you a little bit more of the opening after the backstory. This is the opening: [A crow flies through the mountains and cliffs whilst music plays in the background, And when the crow arrives at the kingdom borders, many vultures are working and many flying machines are also around too, and when the crow arrives in the eagle’s temple. He said: “Sir, there’s a mystical staff in a town called “The Valley of Peace” But then the eagle said “An mystical staff? Ha, there is no mystical staff in the whole world.” The crow replied with “But the staff was powerful, it can fire a dragon and it is true!” (The crow shows the eagle a drawing of the staff of wisdom) The eagle replied back with “If this is real, send all vultures to the valley of peace, and i will have that stuff and I will take over China and expand my whole empire.” (The eagle laughs) The camera focuses on the picture of the staff of wisdom and a chi shaping like the kung fu panda logos was fired and the opening logo was on screen, it focuses on po talking “I am po ping, i am the spiritual leader of the valley of peace, AND I AM EATING DUMPLINGS WITH MY DAD!” Li (aka po’s biological dad) replied back “Yeah, thats my boy. I am going to beat you!” Po replied back, “No i am!” Li replied back “No i am!” As they are saying that endlessly, the camera focuses on tigress and zhen watching them eating together in a contest, Tigress said “Heh, those two pandas never stop talking to each other, right Zhen?” Zhen replied back “Right.” ------------------- Alright now that’s all the opening, but before i end this very long script and hopes of kung fu panda 6, i just want to wish that they would adopt the spider-verse style but make it a bit chinese art style-like and i hope it becomes dark and mature like kung fu panda 2, also my highest hope is that it focuses on zhen and how was she left in the streets of juniper city, But this is not fully the end of the script yet, i will post more of my ideas and hopes for kung fu panda 6 soon enough.
My issue is that there is untapped potential. The Kung fu panda trilogy villains each represent mind (Shen), Body (Tai Lung), Soul/Spirit (Kai). So she could’ve been the ultimate test as she can combine all three. But it would work if Po was written around that. The way to link Po to the Chameleon is through reflection. What if Po reflects on his decisions mainly through the defeating of his villains. That could be interesting since The Chameleon “reflects” the enemies of the past
Yo you literally summed up what I felt! I agree with you 100000%. I even loved Kai as a villain and thought he was underrated. If there’s one thing I do love the chameleon for, it’s that she made everyone appreciate Kai more 😂
Tai Lung: The only man I can call my father denied me the one thing he groomed me for. Lord Shen: I did what I thought was right to save myself from my fate, but when my parents found out, they threw me away. Kai: My dearest friend who I loved like a brother struck me down and let my memory die. That lizard wizard lady: You're a short muddafukka and nobody likes you! *toot-toot-tootle-toot-toot* SHORT!
The worst thing in my opinion is that we waited 8 YEARS for this. If this film came out in 2017 or 2018 it would still be bad bat al least I would have thought "yeah they made it in a hurry so it was rushed and blablabla" but this is not the case. They were not in a hurry and I would have prefered to wait two more years and get something better than this
Kai actually built on an established characters backstory, that being what Oogway got up to before he became zen The Chameleon.... honestly felt like they saw Shang Tsung's power to imitate his opponents and only wrote the character with THAT aspect in mind without any of the cunning or ruthless nature that made him a character gamers love to hate
Pretty sure the tribute was metal collecting so she can build the cages on time. Problem is, it lacks the weight that shen’s metal-collecting did. Shen was using the metal to build his army and weapons, hence the urgency to stop him.
Two lung had to take out the dragon warrior, something he always WA Ted to be after shifu out it in his head. When had to fight po because a panda was going to kill him. Kai had to fight po because oogway had personal ties with him (if I remember the movie right). Never seen kung fu panda 4, but from what ive heard she doesn't like being short and being kicked out....but...mantis?
Question, as someone who hasn't (and prob won't) see KFP 4, does the Chamelon know Kung Fu without using the spirits of other masters? If she doesn't, why couldn't they write her motives to be that she wanted to learn it and become a master but she either wasn't able to learn it OR she didn't want to put effort into trying to learn it and just wanted the skill and power to develop overnight? Like to me that makes sense and it goes agasint Po's arc in the first movie, being told that one can learn Kung Fu to showing us a character that just *couldn't* get it down pact. The movie could've been about identity if they went that route. The Chamelon could've been questioned if her using other's talents, gaining power, being a imposter was worth loosing/never finding herself.
Great video and explanation! I absolutely agree, she's by far the worst villain of the whole KFP saga. I would add that it's also an inconsistent character as well, because even when she stole the Kung Fu from the others, she still didn't exactly become more powerful, meaning that just because she acquired said powers, she still doesn't know how to use them properly. I say this because when Po faces her, he has no problem in overthrowing her nonetheless. Man, he even sent Zhen to fight because he was so bored 😂 A wasted opportunity, I had great expectations for this villain, but it ended in an absolute disappointment, both the character and the movie.
I wish the movie had been better. I look forward to the back stories and the lovely thoughtful messages of wisdom in each movie. This one felt like they were tacked on as an afterthought
The only thing I like about him, besides the facial expressions, is that his shape shifting makes his forms look cooler, with the scaley skin and the glowing reptile eyes. But that's pretty much it.
@@what7280 thought it was a guy. Reptiles are hard to tell sometimes Especially if that reptile is known for shape-shifting into a certain male villain of the 1st movie.
Even if she isn’t written good, I can tell they put effort in what they thought is good. A for effort. But it not Political. I can see what they trying. The movie is like an incomplete puzzle. It needs a few pieces to add, to make it a good movie.
I sincerely hope either: 1. They make the other 2 we're getting actually good to make up for this or 2. They just make this film like Postal 3 (as in, they just make it not canon).
At least Kai had a name to remember. "The Chameleon" just sounds like an NPC, and his goals sound like those beginning bosses that you have to face Way before dealing with the actual main threat.
You’re wrong about villains having minions doing their dirty work for them making them bad villains. Plenty of villains do that. Frieza (Even though I personally don’t like Frieza), Shishio, Maleficent, Megatron, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, Dagoth Ur, and Shen had minions doing grunt work.
You know; this is just a thing in my head (don't know where it came from) But she could have been a foil for Po in the fact Po doesn't want to let go of being the dragon warrior, she was given a position and earned it but fell into evil because she refused to let go of the power, the fight, etc. And it could have been an interesting take on not willing to move on from your “highs” in life.
The Chameleon had a great opportunity to be a decent character if she was written properly. Obv Shen and Tai Lung still would’ve been best but she could’ve definitely not have been the worst if done correctly. When she said she’s too small, the only way that would’ve made sense for an excuse is that if she meant it as a “lacking in ability sense” not a physical sense. besides her shape shifting abilities she doesn’t appear to have any Kung fu ability at all, at least not any of her own original abilities. If u watch the F5 backstory shorts specials, Mantis is small but is super quick/agile and most ppl don’t see him coming and Viper uses her entire body to do exactly what irl snakes do; twist and turn around its prey to choke it and/or make the prey attack himself (u see her do it against tai lung I believe) Zhen to wasn’t even that great of a character. Her revealing as the apprentice for Chameleon felt so unnecessary, just felt like they implemented it in as an excuse that have some sorta plot twist. The way she interacted with Po and becoming friends was ok but by the time it came to reveal her “true” intentions, we already knew she didn’t wanna really hurt him or anything even if we didn’t kno she was the apprentice. she didn’t seem like she was faking her personality, she told Po everything about herself. About her life as a theft to survive, where she grew up, even telling him that she was taken in and taught everything she knew. She just didn’t mention that that person was the Chameleon.
Agree about her goal being all over the place. With Shen his goal was to take over all of china. The eliminating the pandas, having his goons steal metal for his cannons, and defeating the kung fu masters were all parts of his true goal of conquest. But with her its take the chi, but need the staff, needs the blood moon, but then can still turn into Po, did this because no one taught her kung fu. she is a mess of a villain.
I can give a quick fix for the character. Make her goal complete mastery of Kung-Fu as a whole, so she has a reason for stealing chi and changing form, Change her backstory so that instead of being rejected it was because she had a fundamental misunderstanding of what Kung-Fu means, maybe she didn't want to put in the work to achieve mastery, Give her a moment in her backstory to incite everything, where she felt powerless, Give her a connection to someone in the story, and finally, sort out how her ability is suppose to work and then stick with it, does she have to take chi? can she just copy if she watches someone? how does her ability work and then stick with that.
I think she and whole plot had very good potential, but they did not even try to push it Things they did not actually show, just hinted: 1. Similair start of "kung fu is not for you" of Po and Cham, but different approach and different ending. How your choices shape you 2. Cham tries to gain power of dragon, becoming a dragon-like-beast, when she fights the Dragon warrior, who became a dragon inside. Difference is that Cham was obsessive and greedy, and power she gained turned her into something similair to dragon, but deformed and broken, just like her character 3. The question of greed and it's impossibility to calm down. She had to want more power and go crazy not knowing where could she take it else from, making her question the way she sees reality. Didn't get that 4. Problem of ones who care about you for their own profit or just simply because they care about your well being and happiness. It's about the fox character and her realationship with Cham. They tried to show it, but it was a hint still, not an actual plot or theme. Also Cham could be more manipulative, not straight "did I take you from streets for my personal gain? Yes, what did you expect?". We could have a deeper conflict, were Cham says "no, I saw relative soul and we are family, so I am very proud of you helping me doing the wrong thing". Because without it, Fox's help for Po was too predictible, there was no uncertainty and feeling of betrayal in Fox's story. They try, but it's just a hint again 5. Cham's inability to change inside. They could make her think "well, maybe I should change myswlf within too, but not the way you, the hero, want me to!". They hinted at it with two scenes were Po and then Fox, talk to criminals and they understand wise sayings different and corrupt their meaning 6. Possible Cham's power-overload, which has to be at some point 7. The problem, that she can't just steal skill and spirit features. Shs could steal muscle memory and reflexes, but if she faced that decades of training couldn't be taken away just like that, it would be very cool and amusing to see. It feels like something had to be. Because kung fu is an art, and it's deserved by pain and time. But without it whole her ability to not just copy, and STEAL powers is childish. "I stole your skills, not like I could stole your muscles, memory and ect, but I did💅". With Khai for example, it was lretty logical. Chi is an energy, energy theoreticly could be taken or given, but it does not affect something earned like strength, speed, agility and skill. So Cham just had to face that she can not outcheat years of learning art of fighting And it's all I could figure out in one brain-storm after I watched the movie and this video
Image if there was space for some old villain to help Po to beat her (maybe more strong)... It could be something similar to battle of god where good and evil fight togheter against someone... It could there be a positive arc for some evil like Tai lung or also the Peackock that still accepted his defeat. I don't know, i see so much good potential waste
Granted shape shifting is honestly cool, but the way Chameleon does it isn’t really that fun. I mean cmon how awesome would it have been if she shifted individual parts into claws, fangs, talons, turn her arms into snakes, really mix up the use of the kung fu masters martial arts in creative ways that they themselves couldn’t ever dream of doing.
You know what would've been better? If she was trying to change the face of martial arts and bring in new styles from outside of China or simply to try and create new forms of Kung Fu and was ridiculed and kicked out of every martial school because of it. Her transformation powers would've fit that idea perfectly.
I really don't understand why she took Lord Shen's form. He wasn't some great kung fu master, the whole point of his character is that he used his army and weapons to level the playing field.
Its a cool comcept butcher by the story, I mean her power is the anti thesis of what po message in the first movie where Po accept who he is being a fat panda while chameleon suppose to struggle with her image always changing who she is.
Tai lung is the 1st villain, which is why he's well known. Lord Shen starts Panda genocide, creates cannons, and is linked to Po's past. And Kai is an old friend of Oogway that can take people's chi and use them as power ups and jombie minions. The chameleon is just a small showoff that just wants to be known as the big and bad and can do whatever he wants.

Man, when she said "It's kickin time" and kicked the dude down those stairs
My soul left my body
Here are my issues with her:

Best thing about this movie is that it made the past movies look even better.
And it could also make the subsequent movies look even better if they turn out to be better or an improvement over this one

Hes just not fleshed out as much compared to shen and Tai Lung and is treated like a joke + his motivation is not really explained

She is good wdym?
@@rickyronny4019She is good
@@sammyboy_samik3554 Tell how.
@@Ebh55. I'll explain every point in this video and why it's wrong
1. All tell, no show intro
- Her intro was good because it fit her character in the story.
2. A villainous gimmick
- She doesn't take a spirit, that's what Kai did because they are already spirits, no longer mortals, she just steals Kung Fu skills with her sorcerer skills.
3. Am unfocudes goal
All these small tasks of hers literally lead to her big plan. Shen also had to do this: 1- Steal metal to create his perfect weapons
2-Erase all pandas out of paranoia
All these small tasks lead to his grand plan to take over everything. Same with Chameleon:
1-Get the staff to access the spirit realm
2-Get enough metal to build cages for the spirits
4. No personal ties with the hero
- Her connection with Po was really big and it was pointed out in the movie itself.
5. No dirty hands
- I don't even have to say much.
7. A hollow shell
- Not every villain needs a backstory unless it fits with the character's narrative and plot.
8. A copy paste villain
- They are not even remotely similar, she steals their abilities to accomplish something.
9. A forgettable knockout
- The whole story of how Po easily defeated Chameleon was because he held back. He truly became a spiritual leader and left Zhen as another dragon warrior to learn and basically teach her like Oogway did when he held back against Kai in the spirit realm to teach Po, once she learned her lesson Po defeated Chameleon.
10. Not intimidating
- That's totally subjective if you didn't find her as scary and brutal as Kai for example, but she was definitely scary, factually speaking, the shapeshifting represents the fact that she embodies all of Po's past villains as I mentioned. it fits her narrative.
Here is how i would fix chameleon
There are many different animals with different styles of kung fo that compliments their body
However there was the chameleons who simply couldn't learn ANY style of fighting
They weren't big enough
They weren't strong enough
They werent fast nor agile enough
They weren't durable enough
They simply couldn't be martial artists
They only had one thing...the shapeshifting ability.the only way to survive for them was to throw away their original body and permanently change their identity wich they didint want to.. but they were too weak..so they decided to learn somthing else..sorcery and magic..with their chi...they could minuplated the five chinese elements (fire.water.earth.wood.metal) and with that they became unstoppable and no longer needed to hide..but they were recognised as threats and were wiped completely..thats at least what everyone thought...but a few chameleons changed and fled..they no longer could do live as themlesves and had to go into hiding forever..BUT... generations after..a chameleon decided to put an end to this hell for chameleons and create a place where they can be themselves a place they can call home.
You should be hired as the writer for the Kungfu Panda 4 instead of whoever wrote it
Chameleon: I got rejected from Kung-Fu because i was too short 😢
Mantis, Viper, master Popcupine, kid Tigress, kid Tai Lung and e.t.c.: Excuse us?
Master Rooster and Master Rat: What am i? Chopped liver?
Even Master Chicken had learned Kung Fu, and he's a chicken 🐔
No wonder that she just made excuses lol
Fun Fact
Kai didn't make a Tai Lung Jombie because his chi was so powerful, he could easily break free and turn on him, same with Oogway
So an actually cool twist would be if Chameleon tried to take control of Tai Lung, she would lose her mind and Tai Lung would hijack her body and her powers.
In fairness, that first part is more or less Tai Lung’s story but it’s way better than wheat we got LMAO
And I? I will make it right."
(Notice the shock on his face when the soothsayer finally gets him to understand why he was banished, before he recomposes himself, accepting its too late to turn back?) So much could have been different for so many if bro had a friend.
Havent seen 4 yet, but your reasoning seem sound, and depressing.
As the most evil: Lord Shen
Broken: Tai Lung
Wanting power to himself: Kai
And the villain that doesn’t know one bit of Kung fu because she was small to learn: The Chameleon
If Kung fu panda 5 happens they better put the furious 5.
Kung Fu Panda villains intros
Tai Lung- escapes from a prison, beating essentially a whole army of guards in a badass manner
Shen- faces three Kung Fu masters, killing one of them in the process
Kai- beats and captures Oogway
Chameleon- gently pushes a guy down some stairs
I want to add that Tai Lung escaped from a prison SPECIFICALLY made to keep him imprisoned, which is why he was trapped for so long. That's what makes him even scarier, that despite being unable to train, he improved his body, skills, and even his own mindset in order to escape. That is insane!
The Chameleon absolutely destroyed the franchise's peak villain streak.
WHY NO ONE MENTION JIN DAO the guy who steals the dragon warrior spirit legitemely as a original dragon warrior?
The Amazon and Netflix shows are not canon, so I guess people don't watch those
@@cedricletho2971 wait so mr ping being a pirate isnt canon 😭
This video is on point with this weak character, “The Chameleon.” Does she even have a name?
I mean yeah it could work

On a side note, zehn should have been a survivor of Tai Lung’s attack on the valley before he was imprisoned
Tai lung: orphaned and turned into master shifus greatest warrior, though he wanted to be the dragon warrior, it got to his head and ended up becoming the monster that shifu trained, he wants evil, but a broken individual
Lord shen: one of if not the best villain in Kung Fu panda, followed a dark path that sealed his fate, committed genocide on pandas to guarantee his future but returned and murdered one of kung fu's greatest masters with a cannon, he used what was meant for peace, turned fireworks into a weapon of war, his vision ended up killing him
Kai: ugways brother in arms ( sorry if I spelled the names wrong ), his grief and then greed for power got the better of him and stole the Chi for himself but was sealed into the spirit realm, he is and had a big feel and impact in the beginning.
Kai is super powerful. Its just he lacks comparing to shen in term of character depth

The Chameleon doesn't have a nemesis, but if would guess her color of evil, it would be yellow.
Sad, because that's clearly Po's color.
Yellow represents the heros tho
It'd be maybe a bit more powerful than just 'Lol get burned!!! >w
What if she knows about po and shapeshifts to his mom?

Alright, thats all the roles for behind the scenes, now ima tell you the backstory first of kung fu panda 6 (this is just how i wish it was) this is for the villain btw
[Do note that the opening is pretty similar to Kung Fu Panda 2]:
*Long time ago, a family of eagles moved into a village along with their son. But the eagle told them he will made his empire and then expand it though China.*

[A crow flies through the mountains and cliffs whilst music plays in the background, And when the crow arrives at the kingdom borders, many vultures are working and many flying machines are also around too, and when the crow arrives in the eagle’s temple. He said: “Sir, there’s a mystical staff in a town called “The Valley of Peace”
But then the eagle said “An mystical staff? I am going to beat you!” Po replied back, “No i am!” Li replied back “No i am!” As they are saying that endlessly, the camera focuses on tigress and zhen watching them eating together in a contest, Tigress said “Heh, those two pandas never stop talking to each other, right Zhen?” Zhen replied back “Right.”
-------------------
Alright now that’s all the opening, but before i end this very long script and hopes of kung fu panda 6, i just want to wish that they would adopt the spider-verse style but make it a bit chinese art style-like and i hope it becomes dark and mature like kung fu panda 2, also my highest hope is that it focuses on zhen and how was she left in the streets of juniper city, But this is not fully the end of the script yet, i will post more of my ideas and hopes for kung fu panda 6 soon enough.
The movie just feels like a slap of nostalgia whit old enemies
If there’s one thing I do love the chameleon for, it’s that she made everyone appreciate Kai more 😂
Wow she really just quoted the “we’re not so different you and I.” Cliche word for word.
The thumbnail was just Soyjack vs Chad.
The worst thing in my opinion is that we waited 8 YEARS for this.
If this film came out in 2017 or 2018 it would still be bad bat al least I would have thought "yeah they made it in a hurry so it was rushed and blablabla" but this is not the case.
They were not in a hurry and I would have prefered to wait two more years and get something better than this
I know it's bad but kung fu panda franchises will do it next time
I totally agree with you 💯. Those creepy rabbits were also hyped, and the underworld criminals I could not see how they built the fox character.
Kai actually built on an established characters backstory, that being what Oogway got up to before he became zen
The Chameleon.... honestly felt like they saw Shang Tsung's power to imitate his opponents and only wrote the character with THAT aspect in mind without any of the cunning or ruthless nature that made him a character gamers love to hate
True on everything said, but despite it all if left alone, The Chameleon would have posed a formidable challenge and threat.
Man, he even sent Zhen to fight because he was so bored 😂
A wasted opportunity, I had great expectations for this villain, but it ended in an absolute disappointment, both the character and the movie.
I wish the movie had been better. I look forward to the back stories and the lovely thoughtful messages of wisdom in each movie. This one felt like they were tacked on as an afterthought
I would have had her motivation is to protect her home city of Juniper City by taking the Kung Fu of all masters.
7:49 this is the dumbest reason for someone to be a villain, imagine you take over the world just because you hate being short 💀💀💀
I've said it before and i'll say it again.
They really found a way to make every past foes combined looklike a joke
He 1st became a "threat," then he became a joke, and then he turned into a Bigger joke.
The only good thing about the chameleon is she has a great design. I do love the facial expressions she makes. That’s it
The only thing I like about him, besides the facial expressions, is that his shape shifting makes his forms look cooler, with the scaley skin and the glowing reptile eyes.
But that's pretty much it.
@@cesarv7685 true, her shapeshifting abilities are.
Also why are you saying “him”?
@@what7280 thought it was a guy.
Reptiles are hard to tell sometimes
Especially if that reptile is known for shape-shifting into a certain male villain of the 1st movie.
I’ve seen roughly 2 people try to say chameleon is a good villain
That is 2 people too many

Shen's fucked up, no one's gonna beat him in villainy in this universe
Even if she isn’t written good, I can tell they put effort in what they thought is good. A for effort. But it not Political. I can see what they trying. The movie is like an incomplete puzzle. It needs a few pieces to add, to make it a good movie.
I sincerely hope either:
1. They make the other 2 we're getting actually good to make up for this
or
2. They just make this film like Postal 3 (as in, they just make it not canon).
I actually like the chameleon, shape shifting is the best power in existence
And the crowd goes mild!
Chameleon is such a bad villain she doesn't even have a name. 🤣
And Palpatine. And basically every kingpin in a mob movie. Speaking of kingpins, I think Kingpin himself (Marvel Comics) does as well.
You know; this is just a thing in my head (don't know where it came from)
But she could have been a foil for Po in the fact Po doesn't want to let go of being the dragon warrior, she was given a position and earned it but fell into evil because she refused to let go of the power, the fight, etc.
If u watch the F5 backstory shorts specials, Mantis is small but is super quick/agile and most ppl don’t see him coming and Viper uses her entire body to do exactly what irl snakes do; twist and turn around its prey to choke it and/or make the prey attack himself (u see her do it against tai lung I believe)
Zhen to wasn’t even that great of a character.
Make her goal complete mastery of Kung-Fu as a whole, so she has a reason for stealing chi and changing form,
Change her backstory so that instead of being rejected it was because she had a fundamental misunderstanding of what Kung-Fu means, maybe she didn't want to put in the work to achieve mastery,
Give her a moment in her backstory to incite everything, where she felt powerless,
Give her a connection to someone in the story,
and finally, sort out how her ability is suppose to work and then stick with it, does she have to take chi? can she just copy if she watches someone? how does her ability work and then stick with that.
Honestly, Kai was only the worst because the other two were so good
This villain is just, no
This move honestly needed more time inside the oven and i would honestly prefer the concepts instead of the final product
I'm not sure if it came out raw or burnt, but either way it was Not well done.
Could of leaned into her shape shifting ability to po fighting a enemy without a face
I think she and whole plot had very good potential, but they did not even try to push it
Things they did not actually show, just hinted:
1. Similair start of "kung fu is not for you" of Po and Cham, but different approach and different ending. How your choices shape you
2. Cham tries to gain power of dragon, becoming a dragon-like-beast, when she fights the Dragon warrior, who became a dragon inside. Difference is that Cham was obsessive and greedy, and power she gained turned her into something similair to dragon, but deformed and broken, just like her character
3. The question of greed and it's impossibility to calm down. She had to want more power and go crazy not knowing where could she take it else from, making her question the way she sees reality. Didn't get that
4. They try, but it's just a hint again
5. Cham's inability to change inside. They could make her think "well, maybe I should change myswlf within too, but not the way you, the hero, want me to!". They hinted at it with two scenes were Po and then Fox, talk to criminals and they understand wise sayings different and corrupt their meaning
6. Possible Cham's power-overload, which has to be at some point
7. So Cham just had to face that she can not outcheat years of learning art of fighting
And it's all I could figure out in one brain-storm after I watched the movie and this video
They should've made Chameleon like Odin from God Of War. A manipulator who is everywhere at once with her disquise ability
Image if there was space for some old villain to help Po to beat her (maybe more strong)... It could be something similar to battle of god where good and evil fight togheter against someone... It could there be a positive arc for some evil like Tai lung or also the Peackock that still accepted his defeat. I don't know, i see so much good potential waste
great video!
I loved her as a villain but she really lacked in writing.
"Am evil' and smoll' and I want all' yo' kun' fu" (c)
Bro I want to try and listen to this argument, but his voice makes it so hard XD. But I do agree, Lord Shen is the best villain by far.
You know what would've been better? If she was trying to change the face of martial arts and bring in new styles from outside of China or simply to try and create new forms of Kung Fu and was ridiculed and kicked out of every martial school because of it. Her transformation powers would've fit that idea perfectly.
Lord Shen>
1:02 This description made me laugh
I really don't understand why she took Lord Shen's form. He wasn't some great kung fu master, the whole point of his character is that he used his army and weapons to level the playing field.
Thats a nice hendrix shirt. Wish I had it.
nice video
The Chameleon has the most weak sauce backstory and motivation i have ever come across in *any* medium. It's actually kinda amazing.
Well she has potential to be a good villain or hero but she does have cool powers
I feel like the Chameleon genuinely could’ve been cool but like- Ō-Ō
The idea that kung fu can be taken is straight against first movie tbh. Po earned it. It was about training and art.
Its a cool comcept butcher by the story, I mean her power is the anti thesis of what po message in the first movie where Po accept who he is being a fat panda while chameleon suppose to struggle with her image always changing who she is.
The only good thing about the chameleon is she has a great design. That’s it
If people were saying Kai was the worst
They probably hadn't seen 4 or the opinion was made before 4 existed
Agreed completely. The chameleon is a generic forgettable villain. The other three even Kai had something that made them interesting.
