  • On this episode of The Numbers, we discuss a new poll that gauges just how recognizable Justin Trudeau, Pierre Poilievre and other party leaders and top figures in the Liberal Party really are to Canadians. We also chat about the latest federal numbers, the ubiquitous Mark Carney rumours, the LaSalle-Émard-Verdun byelection and provincial polling out of British Columbia and Ontario.
    In the mailbag, we answer a question about whether or not we can calculate the odds of big swings happening in future elections. Then, Philippe is put to the test with an impromptu Quiz.

    9:53 - Other way around, the 1945 Ontario election was originally set for June 11, 1945, then the Federal Liberals under King called the 1945 Federal Election for the same day, and the PC Government Ontario moved theirs up by a week to June 4, 1945.

    As someone interested in the LCBO strike, in a desire for Doug Ford to keep to his promise to modernize alcohol availability in Ontario, I think that this strike is completely about that plan and less about money for workers. I love all the staff at the local LCBO and hope that they are kept whole but the ship has sailed with our Premier and we will not be going away from a new modern distribution model for alcohol sales in Ontario. The wording of these questions in the polls would sway me to answer one way to one question and another way to a different question, leading to different conclusions by the pollsters. I think workers can strike to their heart is content - fully support that. Should not change the employer from running the business the best way they see fit. That is why it is COLLECTIVE bargaining 🙂 Great episode and thanks for your insight on the numbers

    Time is trickling away for a turn around, Just about 12+ months until the call needs to be made

      It constitutionally does not have to be made until August 2026 - 5 years since the last writs were drawn up. I don’t think there are many fans of Harper’s fixed election law because he broke the spirit of it to call two early elections in 2008 & 2011 himself.

    Philip: why did you remove the names of the sitting MP from all your 338 ridings? I find it important when studying the regions to see which sitting MP might be unseated.

      Hi there. Because the site updated to the new 343-seat map. Most ridings changed borders, many changed names, some were newly created and others retracted from the map. These new ridings don't have MPs yet. The names will be added back after the next election.

    • @Griff1984
      @Griff1984 2 месяца назад +1

      @@stephansimard4448 No I mean 2026. Fixed election dates of every 4 years are legislative, but under our constitution an election must held within 5 years.
      If Trudeau leaves sometime next summer, followed by 2 to 4 month leadership race, its easy to see a Spring 2026 election.

    • @Sam19509
      @Sam19509 2 месяца назад

      U mean Conservatives? They are ahead by 20 pts because Canada just had its fastest cycle of interest rate hikes in history, global inflation is high and the current Government is 9 years old. The Liberals also relied too much on Poilievre shooting hinself in the foot by supporting the Freedom Convoy & promoting idiotic remarks about Crypto to anyone that would listen. They didn’t air attack ads on him for like 2 years while the Conservatives flesh with cash aired a national ad campaign about their Leader with RUclips ads and prime commercial spots during the nightly news, the Stanley Cup playoffs and the Grey Cup & The Super Bowl. If the economic situation improves and Liberals spend on their own attack ads on Poilievre the election will become competitive again.😂😂
