Instructional video on GOOSE. Please let me know what you think, what you liked, what you didn't like. I'm hoping that my explanations make sense.
I do move quite fast because I figure this video is more reserved for intermediate-advanced players. Also, rewinding is really easy. I encourage you to adjust the playback speeds too.
I have not included any tab, because you can buy the official tab for the album from Polyphia's website, so if you need it, just go there and support the band you like. polyphiatabs.com/ -

By far, the most commonly asked question about this video is the tone, so here is a video about the tone used in this video.

I have a question, what is a good reasonably affordable DI and how do I get rid of RFI? My records are so noisy and my interface is always peaking at max.
I always hear that Tim Henson is a god but what about this dude? He learns these damn hard songs and shares his knowledge with us mortals who try for months to play these songs. He's a true God.
I love how deadpan and jaded you are teaching something that most people find so far out of their reach. It grounds it a lot and makes it seem more approachable
I really like that you played the example first before the lesson, also thank you for not wasting 3-5 minutes talking about nothing before you got into the lesson.
Great lesson too
Easily the best polyphia tutorial vids out there, dunno if you’ll see this but can’t thank you enough for all your help !

Your teaching style is the best I've seen. I like how you leave the viewer to go back if they want but keep on going.
Great tutorial!
First the lesson and then Polyphia uploads the backing track. I know what to do now. It would be great if you could do 40oz in the future.
40oz is just sweep picking but harder 🤣
@Ace King Kaun hai bhai tu?
@@connors3807 Tim didn't sweep it on the album, fyi :)
@@DinglaxD how do you know?
@@solenya3493 Tim mentioned that in a video, i think it is the video of him watching fan covers. The dude that played 40 oz went full beast mode and played it like he wrote it. Tim commented something about how that guy was playing it legit and he said something about himself cheating live compared to how he recorded it.
This video was absolutely wonderful man. Been using it alongside the tabs from their website and it's absolutely insane how much progress I've made in just two weeks of diligent practice.
Especially on the bridge section with all the hybrid picking. Thanks again for making this video for us to follow and get an idea of how the song is played.
And yea, I know this is a 2yr old video but that just goes to show how helpful it still is even today.
Thanks for the comment! Glad to be a help
I'm only 6 minutes in after a week lol, but I really enjoy the way you teach, I think it comes across easy and clear to understand, each part broken down nicely. Appreciate the effort in the vids!
I never knew Scott LePage himself do lessons on youtube as "Jake"!
You really have the feel down and play exceptionally clean. So many struggle to mute correctly and have the dominant notes come through all the string noise with those crazy chords jumping all over the place. Totally understandable because it's fuggin hard to really play each position perfect at tempo while anticipating where to go next. Anyway, just wanted to compliment your clean technique. Always awesome seeing someone cleanly break down cool guitar parts with great technique
Thank you K7J. What a nice compliment. I definitely had to work hard for it.
ive noticed tim adds in muted sweeps ocasionally, its great to reference his playthroughs in tandem with tutorials to pick up on any slight oddities in tims playing. Great tutorial!
Bro i started this song when i 1st started and its been a whole year now🤯🤙🏽i was surprised getting some pts. Now I’m on the Finale section(@26:49) and you’ve earned my like. I came here before i had tabs and again after buying them to get a feel for the groove on these parts. Even learned some fingerings better than the ones ACTUALLY tabbed out. All great stuff, keep goin man. 👏🏽👏🏽👌🏽🐐🎥🎸
Haha congrats on the determination bro!!! I made this video because i find these helpful, marginally harder to remember the notes, but once remembered you never forget. Post a performance and show the world!
How did you know I was here for the bridge xD
Got me too
Same here haha
Because this part is fire bro
You make these stressful songs super easy thank you so much jake you are so underrated
Legit best guitar how to's on RUclips. Im impressed how thorough you are! How did you figure this out I'm looking at tabs online that are 90% similar to your playing but yours sounds better
Hey Shef! Thanks for the comment man, means a lot.
Fortunately for me, Polyphia sell their tab books online. And because Polyphia are using that as a source of income, I don't feel it's fair to just give their work away.
In the future when I inevitably get requests for songs that don't have a tab book, I'll just have to go through by ear. Lots of trial and error, playing it slow, and all that fun stuff. Whenever I do this, I also search for videos of the artist playing it so I can help narrow my guess work.
@@writemetalmusic
I know I'm way late to this but I just want to say I really respect that you're putting in a lot of effort to add value with these videos without undercutting them on the tab books.
I think the quality and effort really shows and if anything it makes me want to get the tab books still to be able to have it in front of me to. I think you're doing good work and contributing positively for the community and the band.
Keep up the great work!
@@DanKleeman Thank you Dan! really appreciate the comment :)
This is the best tutorial guy I found when it comes to learning Polyphia. Straight to the point, quick, and legit. Thank you
I’ve been looking for tutorials for polyphia and this is by far the easiest to follow! Thank you 🖤
I'm at section 2 and seems pretty easy after learning goat
Updates I'm at the bridge section which is surprisingly easy and quick tip if you can't get the second part then I just hit the e string instead of the pinky on the 8th
Goat was a bitch to learn lol
So updates I have a cover of this song and hopefully I can upload a new video soon
I started this without using a metronome, so it's so hard to use one now and get faster
*plays riff*
*stare of death*
'mkay?'
I spend the day learning the intro, in a year or two I think I can to play the entire song ! It’s very difficult for me... but i will keep trying ! Thanks for this ! Perfect teacher 👌
This is really one of the best tutorial videos in general. Can tell you've watched tutorials that were gut wrenching in the past lol
Been working on this for months, now. Still gotta speed it all up, but I have up to and including the first part of the bridge pretty down. I've been watching your video along with the official tabs, because even with it tabbed out it's confusing af lol.
Thanks so much, you seem like you have infinite patience, I can't imagine how long it took to break this all down in such an easy to understand way. Super skilled!
Love how in detail it is. And how easy it is to follow. 🤘
😅
This shxt underrated bro!! Ur tutorial is sooo in-depth and detailed 👍
thanks a lot dude, i hope your channel grows, all your content just helped me progress after being stuck in one spot for a whole year. i searched for a ton of lessons for a long time and not one helped me. you're the best, you actually helped me grow a lot. subbed. exceptional content.
This is extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
Thank you for being tthe only guitar teacher that shows me how to play polyphia there my favorite band and i cant get the tab books so thank you keep the good work up
haha You're very welcome. Please let me know any that you'd like to tackle in the future. Open to bands outside Polyphia too.
You could do chon aswell
Im terrible at guitar so if you could do scale and key lessons that would be awesome :)
Hey Bird up! I've just done a video on scales. I realised that this topic is way too big so I'm gonna do a whole series that will include the basics of what you need to know and give you plenty of ways to approach it. The first video is more of a 'why' than something you can apply to the instrument. Information you can apply to guitar is in the works and will come soon enough. Thanks!

Thx you great
Thank you. I had to slow it down. I watch a lot of lesson vids. You get to the point. I couldn’t get 2 seconds into a Polyphia song until now. Look forward to more vids. Well done mate.
These tutorials are so good!
dude you put out one of the most comfusing tutorials ever
Great timing, i just got good at the bridge riff and ive kinda been wanting to learn the whole song. Thanks man, great content keep it up
Thanks Gravity! enjoy!
Second day on this video now, I'm about to start learning section 4...
Thank you so much for the in-depth tutorial dude, and you totally nailed the bridge part it's amazing!!!
Subbed!
Thanks for the lesson I’m completed !! Great teacher please make more of these videos !!
the 16:00 -17:00 made me want to pull my hair out. Great tutorial overall, thank you!
Great teaching!, very depth and accurate and also just the right amount of explanation for intermediate to advanced players. Would love to see some CHON guitar lessons aswell in the future. Keep it up man!
Honestly surprised you don't have way more subscribers!
This is genuinely a very epic tutorial man . Thanks a lot :D
Thanks to your video I managed to learn it within three days 👍
(currently at around 75% speed)
Keep at it bro, great work!
This is really good mate. Thanks for making this
Great lesson man perfect timing too just started learning this
Great! let me know how you go!
The e on Beat 3 of measure 2 (before the open e) is a hammer on from nowhere, 14th fret on d string, not a slide down to 10 on g string. Same note, just played slightly differently
man, this helped me learn it in a really short time, now just to perfect it, thanks!
nice work !🔥
Letting you know that about 6 months ago, you ignited something in me for guitar with your breakdown of Polyphia Goat. Coming back to these videos makes my heart beat faster. Not to mention the videos are awesomely put together.
Glad to hear it MegaMoth. Comments like that make my world go round!

your playing is clean af bro very good tutorial too!
you're a literal guitar guru i subbed
Wow bro finally a pretty detailed tutorial of polyphia im very thankful bro
Watching you from colombia 💪💯🔥
Thanks for the comment bro! let me know how you go.
this is a fantastic video, you're a phenomenal guitarist/teacher!
this is incredible, thank you. i have the tabs but this is really helping me get the phrasing correct.
i'd ask for more polyphia songs, but i won't be ready for another one for another year at this point though :)
Thank you sooo much man this helped a lot , keep up the hard work ❤️
This is awesome! Keep up the good work
That 7,5,7 slide is killing me
Woohoo \o/ I haven't finished G.O.A.T yet and now this. I 've got enough work to go through coronavirus containment (and even more) thank's a lot !
I am stuck at 2:39 G.O.A.T
And tried goose, Rich kidz and saucy
You're very welcome!

Just did a cover of the bridge riff, almost through the rest of the song man, much appreciated
Cool! Good work bro!
great tutorial bro! do you have to sweep pick your right hand for the part at 6:11?
Dude thanks for the tutorial! Subscribed!!
Trying to learn this song. This helped so much!
Dude good shit you have earned a subscriber. Would like say i was hear before u got big
this guy is awesome
Bro could u pls make a video on Jason Richardson's solo in Nasty?
For the bridge riff is anyone else confused where the 12 10 open E he explained at the end is supposed to go
Awesome dude, loving Polyphia and in absolute awe of the guitar work. Great tutorial, would love one for some other new levels new devils like GOAT and O.D
Thanks for the comment bro! GOAT was the first tutorial i did. Check it here :) OD is future

@@writemetalmusic Oh mad aha, I feel stupid for not looking first ah. Really do appreciate the work put into this and I really like how you don't do tabs to respect Polyphias decision to sell them
@@chilliwowah1086 hahaha i guessed that you just hadn't noticed. Enjoy!
just to clarify for anyone else as confused as I was - at around 16:26 ish it is not 9 8 on d and g but 10 and 9
now I'm gonna take on the bridge part, I feel my brain cells died a few trying to learn it
Try the worst as well I really like the melody
You have earned a new sub!
Stares at you after the demo: ok?
Me: 😢
you are an awesome teacher and let me know when you are taking request and thank you for the great videos
Wayne! I believe you requested some Judas Priest a while ago? Let me know requests man, I'd love to tackle it.
@@writemetalmusic bloodstone solo ...the song fever ....many more
Great video! Keep it going! :)
isnt there more after section 4 before going into the bridge?
Nice job, big love from france
thank you for this video
THANK you!!! You even timestamped the sections correctly, by saying that the bridge is the part we're here for.
One quick thing, though... what if I can't do hybrid picking? Or do you have a tutorial explaining that too?
Great idea, I'll get working on a video for you. However, it's not that hard to incorporate. I think you're best off just experimenting. Play around with hybrid picking and see what you can and can't do. Take it very slow and easy and you should get some results quite quickly :)
Everybody's gangsta until the bridge happens :P
Thank you so much!!
At 16:25 it's 10/9 on the D/G strings not 9/8. Your hand is right the words are not. Really good tutorial tho thanks for taking the time to make it.
respect mane
LOVED the tutorial, but the timestamp didn't work, could that be changed maybe??
Don't get me wrong, your tutorial is freaking awesome, concise and to the point and I love it.
Just the timestamps.
Hey d0sa, yeah. I'm not sure why, but clicking it doesn't seem to work properly.
However, If you copy and paste them into the browser, it'll go to the right place.
Weird. I'll have another look and see if I can get it working properly.
Thanks for the comment!
that tone i really need
19:31
you sarcastic beast lol thanks dude
16:22 has a small mistake, he did not play 9 8 he played 9 10 on the d and g
I learned GOAT thanks your video. Thanks man!!!!!
Success! good work.
Do you alternate pick the two note per string descending lick at 6:00 in the real tempo? That’s mighty tough, plus I’m doing it on an acoustic. 😢
Subscribed. R E S P E C T
Learning this on a classical guitar
awesome good teaching tutorial save me a bucks for a tab thanks
The middle finger hammer-on chord part at the outro is a pain damn
Practise it slow and smooth. Any jerky or uncontrolled motions won't be able to speed up effectively.
Hopefully that helps :)
Thanks Jake! Keep up the good tutorials bro! First Polyphia song that I can play thanks to u!
thanks you so much!
thank you for this. very satisfying song to ok’ing off my strings! have you done “away from the mire” by billy strings yet? you may enjoy learning that one
Great tutorial! What is the technique you are using to half mute when picking the strings on 1.42. when i tried it the strings was either not making a sound or just making a noise I know isn't right.
Hey Benjamin! it's just a very light palm mute. Make sure the meaty part of your hand is resting right where the strings meet the bridge and adjust both towards, and away from the nut, as well as how much pressure to put on. You should quickly find a comfortable position to achieve this tone.
It should feel like the strings are just tickling your flesh :)
Can you do a lesson on the worst by polyphia? Great video i could play this now, just need more practice, thanks
i suggest downloading this vid before it gets taken down
Why do you think it'll get taken down?
i have no ill intentions please dont report me
nice.will you be uploading videos about learning scales soon?
