Helen Rossi is determined to find a mate for her son Tom, a confirmed bachelor and divorce lawyer who plans to avoid matrimony altogether. While undergoing tests at clinic, Helen spots a nurse, Jane, who she feels would be the perfect wife for Tom. She persuades them to go on a blind date against the advice of her housekeeper/confidante, Katie, and her circle of card-playing friends. The date is a disaster and matters are made worse when Tom keeps running into attractive women that seem to know him intimately. Helen is driven to see the two married some day and pursues this goal even after finding out that her medical tests indicate she does not have long to live.

I could not stop thinking of my mom , u see on July 1rst I buried mom .Although it was only a movie his facial expressions of pain for his lost looked so very real John Stamos is a great actor ,nd I m sure he's a wonderful, caring nd sensitive person in real life I just love his eyes nd smile.

Yes, I agree. I first got acquainted with Olympia Dukakis's talent in Steel Magnolias which has a stellar cast including Olympia, as she shined bright in all her roles.
The mother wakes up and says "did I die and go to heaven?" when she sees her best friend is beside her. That is so touching.

Her line of "I'm a nurse Tom, nobody looks after me" really got me. Pretty much encapsulated my social and love life too.
Probably a lot of us nurses identify with that.

Olympia Dukakis won an academy award for another film, and she should get an academy award for this film. She is a super star. John Stamos, likewise, is outstanding in this film as is Della Reese.
I remember when my mother was dying. My sisters and I were were overwhelmed. We held hands around her hospital bed and prayed over her. She died peacefully. It's so difficult to lose a parent.

No matter how many times I watch this movie, it's beautiful each time. The cast is magnificent and all the ladies are class acts. Della Reese is superb. Olympia Dukakis, as always is a wonderful talent and Liz Sheridan and Estelle Getty, all add warmth, humor and a touch of reality to a delightful and charming story. Thank you for posting this.

I was not expecting to cry watching this, but as soon as the mom tells him, “I can’t take care of you anymore” ooooof I lost it😭. And then the ending with the piano, 🥹🥲. Sweet movie💜💜 Every time he kissed the girl, I was waiting for him to say, “have mercy”😉

I accidentally stumbled upon this movie and I am so happy I did. What a beautiful little movie. Amazing acting by everyone, the characters were great, the storyline was wonderful and it was just a really nice feel good movie with beautiful scenery, even if it did have sad undertones.

What a wonderful movie with a terrific cast, especialy Olympia Dukakis, and my namesake, John Stamos. I went through some tuff emotions while watching the cancer treatments. It brought back thoughts of my dad and the hard times we had , dealing with his illness

Yes, it was a really good movie! Such a great movie and how I cryed!.
I have three brothers who past away. My mother and my two sisters have died of cancer. I got my first breast cancer in 2014, 3 months after my mother died. From the time my mother died, I had to take care of my father because he knew nothing. Mom had taken care of EVERYTHING. Eight children, work, everything in the home ..! She was 152cm/50Kg but what a great woman!! I miss her soooo much!!
I got breast cancer back on allmost same place in September 2021. This time it has settled in the skeleton.
I still take care of my dad who is now 97+ years old and also demented with delusions. Every day is a struggle but I usually watch a movie or a series before I go to bed. This movie was really good. Romantic but with a serious undertone.
You were really good in that movie Mr. Stamos.

Crying my heart out seeing this movie reminds me the moment how my mum and dad before they passed away was really hard to leave me alone esp my mum knowing that I'm unmarried but when she told me about it I strongly held back my tears told her that I'll be fine then in few days she waited til I went to work and she passed😭😭😭I really miss my mum these days😭😭😭may she continue to rest in God's peace🥰🙏🙏

So sad, it's been almost five years now I lost my mum to cancer and I miss her so much 😭 but I know she's happy with her maker May she continue to rest peacefully

Those two ladies are always worth watching. I loved Ms. Reese in the film Miracle in the Woods. That was heart wrenching & gripping.

The late Olympia Dukakis always excels in her portrayal as a loving friend and mother as she was outstanding. The late Della Reese also portrayed a great supporting friend and housekeeper being close to the family. John Stamos played a successful lawyer who is charming and loving as a brother and son. His performance was sheer brilliance and a natural with his acting talents from serious to funny scenes. Kelly Rowan played a hardworking nurse who was independent and unsure if she would fall in love. No offense to
Michael Whitfield as he was cast to be the younger brother to Tom which
John.Stamos is younger than him but they portrayed being brothers convincingly. Estelle Getty, Liz Sheridan and Renee Taylor were fabulous being close friends to Helen. This film was enjoyable and it warmed my heart and had moral values to take notice.
I'm impressed how this was a made for tv movie. Definitely worth watching as it's just under 90 minutes.

Its great to pick up a picture that wasn't a block buster and which frequently are actually boring. This was lovely and I'm pleased it is getting an airing.
Great story about family and how a mother can worry about her son finding the right woman to finally marry. The mother was a strong determined woman, the rock of the family, who everyone loved. Can she succeed in matching up the best mate for her son? Enjoy.
Didn't expect to cry during the film,Helen and Katie stole the show through and through❤
Really a good movie. The mother didn’t act,she lived the role and Tom ….God! He too acted so well and he is so good looking! I cried and cried..I wish Helen lived to see the marriage!
Olympia Dukakis as the Mother as usual was brilliant. Tears just flowed with memories of my Mom. Beautiful sense of humour to the end. Lovely Movie lots of truth.

I have never seen a so-so movie with any of these stars. Della Reese is always so right for her roles. As is Olympia and the others. Really enjoyed this.

Great movie. I miss watching these sorts of old movies. They were so wholesome but really understood human emotion. Now days the movies are absolute rubbish.

My goodness, John Stamos looks excactly like my grandson Mikael...when my grandson was 16 🤣...and in this role he acts like him too. I got to show him this movie.
I said the words above only 10 minutes into the movie. Now Ima wreck in tears. This movie was so everything from funny to heartbreaking. They dont do movies like that anymore.

Reminded me of the old days when me and my mom were closer and watched movies together its nice to bond again and reminisce. I love you mom. I accidentally stumbled on this movie...I'm so glad I did .. honestly the quality of content of the movies ...till 1998...was probably the best...after this ...all has been deteriorating...70s..80..90s...were the peak of creativity.. sensitivity...now just the opposite...miss this world 🌍...these era's were the best...the world to rocked... especially the family bonding... humanity...love ..marriage . friendships...
Miss these kinds of movies….the new generation and future generations need to watch these k8nds of movies….to bring back family values that are lost now a days….

Loved this movie. It reminded me of my mom who for same reason as Helen, prayed to prolong her life for my sake, being the only unmarried sibling... Also died of cancer.
I was going through the recommendations to find something to fit my mood aftyer severs this morning. I saw the title of this movie and thought,...perfect! Then I saw it has Della Reese and Olympia Dukakis and I knew it was going to be good and sure enough, it was just what I needed for this Sunday Rainy afternoon in Seattle.
And a bonus, based on a true story,...my favorite, Thank you very much for this!!!

I lost my mother the same medical condition
Breast cancer spread to the liver
She died in 3 weeks after being diagnosed with liver cancer
It’s been 20 years and I think about her every day .
It’s been the hardest thing in life to say goodbye to your mother
I definitely believe in life after death but it frightens me because it’s the unknown.
I had her guide me for two years after her passing.
It was like she was holding my hand and was there to protect me .
One day I remember very well I didn’t feel her hand holding me anymore and I was alone.
I had my two beautiful dogs that loved me unconditionally and me them
Unfortunately I lost one after 8 years and the other became 15 years
It broke my heart completely and it’s never healed again
I believe when Jesus wants me in heaven I will be reunited with my mother and my dogs and that’s my only wish while living on earth.
My dogs and my mother appear in my dreams and it’s a very fulfilling feeling .
I think life is a tuff but a experience to learn and grow and I definitely went through my fair share off losing loved ones.
I the name off Jesus God bless all animals and people on this planet 🌎
