How can I state this non-political..
The reality in which people live is very different.
And to solve conflicts you have to talk with people to understand their lives, their reality.
First start to separate facts from feelings. Especially some "facts" may disagree.
And I think it would help to dig out together what is real and what is not and what is too complicated.

Even more extreme than that time there was a civil war?
Hyperbolic language is not the way to get taken seriously. Growing polarisation is a problem, but it's nowhere near an "all time" anything.
Open a history book. We've been here before, and will again.

We don’t live in a democracy. We live in a republic. The distinction is important. This you should know. The republic is in jeopardy not the democracy
