Nice video. I hope they keep posting interesting technical videos like these. Its always good for the fans to understand how the technical aspects work.
I still think Ohlins and Brembo are a notch ahead of Showa and Nissin but in production bikes, you can't beat the value of Showa and Nissin and I am glad to see them competing in MotoGP!
showas also produced race unit forks and shocks like the one used in sbk and motogp. competitive enough to win and broke many records in sbk (krt) plus several wins from alv bautista and marco simoncelli (in the past). i had asked for the price from an australian club racer - the unit is in black, red and gold in colour..very rare. freaking expensive than ohlins.
Yes F1. Lotus F1 uses Ohlins right now and several teams use Brembo brakes. No team has ever used Nissin and only Honda used Showa since they had a large stake in that company. They are on nearly every winning car in every category - Audi, Peugeot, and Toyota in Lemans, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and BMW Mini in WRC, you name it. I remember an article in Race Car Engineering about how Toyota F1 tested every possible damper for 2010 and found Ohlins to be by far the best. It was their choice to switch.
How do you quantify "better?" Most of the feedback I have heard from reviewers and professional test riders consistently say that the Brembo setups have more feel and the Ohlins, particularly the TTX, has more refined adjustability and stability at the limit. There's a reason that nearly every race bike (and race car) is fitted with them. But yes, not all Ohlins and Brembos are better than all Showas and Nissins.
nissin is a very underrated product, but i can tell you that my ninja zx6r stops on a dime. fyi, the motegi gp Nissin brakes were doing a lot better job then Brembos, stats don't lie
Dont mislead me, 1stly i did my researched from paid resources not free. i've been reading all this while since i 1st interested in racing bikes. 1. Im talking about FORKS not SHOCKS production wise. 2. Even my tokico (comes with nissin mc) stress test show better results than production brembo monobloc especially the one on the latest gixxer1K.
did u ever see showa racing shocks and fork? the one used on motogp and wsbk to be specific, the price is more expensive than ohlins. and that nissin is not a normal caliper either :)
I'm confused, hot brakes on a car are bad = fade hot brakes on a GP bike are good, for stopping. I realize there are some physical differences, slotted/drilled, etc. But why are the principles the opposite?
Its to do with the pads - Street brakes have to work at much colder temps so rely on friction to generate stopping power - the hotter they get the lower the friction force. Race brake pads slow the bike down through not just friction alone, but by transferring material from the pads to the disks - the hotter the better this happens, so they have to get heat into the pads first through friction for them to be most efficient at maximum braking force.
You can do the same thing with your car. Put race pads on it, and until they are up to temperature they hardly work at all. But once they hit their sweet spot - hang on! Of course they will wear out your rotors rather quickly and coat your wheel with metal and pad "dust".
did i say f1 uses showa or nissin?? u know they built their own chassis, frames, subframes, suspension, linkage..etc. they only outsource few things like calipers..coils..tires etc. and they wont use cheap products like brembo..they prefer akebono or ap racing. enough said..
Fantastic! I'm sure on a technical level here though (most likely lost in translation?) it is a brake 'rotor' and not professionally known as a 'disc'?? Maybe?
Those factory backed motogp bikes have no choices rather to use ohlins and brembo, their major sponsors (political thing). While other billionaires privateer like san carlo, lcr, and others have wider options and might got even better products than the one used on factory bikes. Just think about it..cheers bro. sorry for my bad english.
How interesting that this came up in my feed in 2020 a few days after watching a race red flagged after Vinales bike went straight on and exploded hitting the fence at 200kph+ after the brakes failed on the main straight, hmmmm
why dont take nitron vs ohlins instead of showa vs ohlins ;) or why dont test nitron instead of ohlins ? maybe that, where good,, but i know many japanese well known makes are underated, and bautista doing a good job with the showa and nissin :) its more about who`s driving that showa / nissin system than wich makes they drive :)
Simply.. You get what you pay.. If you pay premium prices.. U get premium product.. To generalise all product under same company better.. Clearly not a wise decision. I own lot of their product for past 10 year and i know.. Some better than other even produced by same company. Brembo.. Ohlin or nissin..
It's soothing to watch the Japanese machining components. They're just so gentle and delicate.
Props to Nissin, the maker of good brakes and good noodles.
shogrran Ah yes the infamous Nissin noodles. I just hope they don't make them in the same factory they make their brake pads...
I tried Nissin's new chicken carbon ceramic flavour noodles today.
They tasted delicious & stayed hot for hours
And of good biscuit

Good to see something other than Brembo

After learning that “Nissin” are being used in motoGp now I’m even more prouder of my 2022 Kawasaki Z900 with a “Nissin” brakes.
I really thank you for these workshop videos. Please keep doing them! Thanks!
I love my Nissin brakes , very smooth and precise!
my honda matic scooter also use nissin ..
most on Honda's bike use this..

Nissin affordable, trust, quality.
I have Nissin brake system on my ZX6R never had brake fade or any problems especially at the track 👍

Brakes are most important for security and keaping drivers alive.Brembo company alsohave verz high qualtiy level products

Johnny Knoxville it depends on the material
It is because a street brake and a racing brake use different material which have different operating temperature...
10k$ carbon ceramic brake system. Vs generic crap

I love Engineering :)
nice video. but the best brand of brakes is Brembo fact all other teams use them; are also used in f1 or all machines also by road ranging high speed.
best combination still showa/nissin (race unit) like alv. bautista motor.
I have Nissin brake system on my Kawasaki Ninja 150RR and i have Nissin Biscuit Crackers on my pocket.
i bet the nissin's complete braking system too is more expensive than brembo kit.

Rest assured....Japanese engineering is better than European....any year....any month....any day of the week

I would say it's on par with German engineering. Germans are superb. If not then it's bloody close between the two.

So full of shit. Brembo brakes are the best in the world. Period. Also, you might've forgotten Germany is part of Europe...
