I'm sure you know these clips already but there's two amateur recordings of this show I know of on RUclips that feature at least a portion of the encore. They're not great quality, but they're all I've ever seen. Julianne, Song for the Dumped - ruclips.net/video/dd9eyeQTWcQ/видео.html Jackson Cannery, excerpt of Eddie Walker - ruclips.net/video/exKewsAntiA/видео.html
I disagree with the idea that they made an obscure, difficult to listen to concept album that the cut away interviews imply. Every song stands alone and is very well written lyrically and musically. Ben Folds and co are fucking geniuses. A great reminder that mass popularity is often inversely related to quality art. Popularity is pushed by marketing more than striking people's souls
The marketing comment / SOME truth to that but if there was as much truth to it as you seem to think, Battle Of Who Could Care Less would’ve been a bigger hit (it made a touch of noise on modern rock radio) and Dwarf didn’t really chart at all (my all time fave pretty much period). Both pushed hard by Sony. What hit? BRICK. Because it had the marketing AND it reached people’s hearts.
this is so beautiful, thank you so much for sharing this. i saw them for the first time on this album's tour - 1999 and i have to say at the time i was sad about the record being such a big fan of the first 2. i was only 18 and a member of the Magical Armchair listserv - still in my "Underground" and "One Angry Dwarf" phase. being older now i recognize the absolute brilliance of this album and this live performance is unreal. i love ben folds five SO much! and i love the fans of this band. we all get it in a way that nobody else really gets it you know.
Classically underappreciated artist. How has Ben Folds not won a Grammy?! But, I guess, we who love his music can feel special that we get it. He is an absolute master of both piano and songwriting.
indyweek.com/music/features/ben-folds-five-returns-chapel-hill/ I think it was created for this article, however I can't find the artist's credentials.
I'm confused... The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner is my favorite Ben Folds Five/Ben Folds album. I started listening to Ben Folds Five during Whatever and Ever Amen, so I was listening to this album when it was released and it was definitely my favorite from the band then.
Clear from these interviews and his memoir that the experience of making and touring this record broke this band. So sad. I fell in love with it after the third uncomprehending listen. I do remember talking to guys backstage at shows during the Messner tour that the band felt a ton of pressure to “return to form” and they were playing around on the tour with Darren’s song Aemlia Bright, and Robert’s Tell Me What I Did. Kind of wish we could get one more concept album from them, fully executed. I mean, why not?

@@dalismanthe real lesson here is that the entertainment industry is a crap shoot. It's a miracle that Ben made it at all despite his genius.
R.I.P. Caleb Southern

Oh shit! I've wanted to see this since 2008!
Always been a big fan of this album. Mess and magic are two of my favourite Ben folds five songs.
This needs to be seen. How am I only the 2004th person to view this?

Messner was polished and cohesive. BFF's best album in my opinion.
Well where is the encore
unfortunately seems to be mostly lost, i don't know if anyone taped it or every published a tape anywhere.
