The National?!? Unbelievably unknown to me until two weeks ago... I've played this concert dozens in the past few days!! Love the drumms, the guitar and that trombone!! What a wonderfull sounds composition!! It washes my soul and lets me in tears!!
This old gal, 66, first heard this band about 5 years ago on my fav radio station out of Long Island. Loved their music. Wasn't really paying attention to who they were, just knew it was them as soon as I heard the lead singer.....Fast forward, husband and I've been on a CD ordering binge, drinking wine and having "The National" night concerts! Good music, great lyrics speak to all of us regardless of age!!!
This is the best live concert the National have ever recorded. We are incredibly lucky to have it (for free no less). Ive played this concert 65 times in the last 3 weeks. It is a banger start to finish.
The National is actually not my band - it didn't know it until a year ago. But the record "First Two Pages of Frankenstein" flashed me - flashed with something like that - and then this concert. The studio plate is the mega-knotter-but this concert beats everything - i heard it 10000 times :) Thanks to The National
I discovered the band in July 2022. They came to Lisbon for Rock In Rio 2023. I watched the concerts live on TV. I was waiting to watch the concert of the Muse. Right before, it was The National's concert. I thought "Let's listen to these guys and wait for the Muse", not knowing who the hell were The National. Right on one of the first songs they played (Don't Shallow the Cap) I hugely impressed and touched by the interpretation and sense of giving it all of the vocalist. I was amazed. I was speechless. Since that day, I have listened to all albums and multiple RUclips live concerts of the band. On 2022 they even came twice to Portugal for 2 concerts, in 2 festivals, in less than 3 months. They are coming to Lisbon this October, and I'm not gonna miss it. I have the tickets! LET'S GOOOO
Thanks for sharing. I am flying from Germany to Lisbon for the show in October because Lisbon is my favorite city in the world and The National! Can't wait.
I was lucky enough to see them a few days ago at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, BC. One of the best concerts I’ve seen in a wonderful setting with a friendly chill crowd. The National are truly the band of our times, who brilliantly manage to capture the uncertainty we are all living with, without seeming prescriptive or obtuse. There is a ton of great music out there these days, but none of the rest seems as poetic and musically complete as The National. See them, if you can!
@@jonr7364 i wonder if maybe this is the type of thing that Cherry Tree can fund ... like a cool thing they are able to make for the fans, like the ultimate Patreon reward and at the same time sort of a flex about how good they are live, hint hint gotta come see us on the road
Beautiful to see, that music still has the magic gift, to make you feel the happiest person on this almost fucked up planet. Cheers to the dude in the white shirt.
The way so many of their songs begin with a gentle, mesmerizing sound and then build to a crescendo, a cacophony if you will, and then back again is just amazing. I've seen them maybe 4 times, and will certainly see them again. Just a super live band, all fantastic musicians.
The National siempre me recordará a mi amada Emy. Gracias por compartir este concierto en el momento justo.
i understand the lyrics, but i have no intellectual attachment to them, like, i haven't experienced what the lyrics are portraying, but for some reason, i get pangs in my heart, and cry, i don't pretend to understand it.
@chrisjohnssolarcross I think the song is ultimately about poverty and day to day living. I think it's kind of an industrial song, maybe written for or from the working class point of view and dealing with economic issues and things people face. I'm not from Ohio so maybe I'm wrong. I do like the song, though.
I must confess I was afraid of listening to this album, because all my favourite bands just put out disappointing records nowadays and live off rents. I was wrong. What an amazing album this is! I love it even more than the earlier stuff. A band who has matured in the proper way. Raising the bar every time, again and again. I just hope this lasts. BTW this live recording is AMAZING
I was going to go the Best Kept Secret festival in 2020 in The Netherlands, after the buying the tickets for the weekend I decided to randomly listen to some of the unfamiliar artist to me. When I played The National tracks, I instantly fell in love with them. I have been to three of their concerts since 2022 in MSG NYC. They are such a wonderful group, the emotions that the lead singer Matt Berninger pours into the microphone, is just too much.
I was listening to ska before I started listening to the national. The fact that like 20 years later they are touring with a horn section is a dream come true. Thank you for the 20+ years of music. We love you.
I must admit the National are intriguing for they have a painfully magical authenticity - those whimsical lyrics are wonderfully observed - the singer has an endearing fragility surrounded by an orchestra of magical musicians who paint a beautiful landscape of sound that resonates perfectly with that lead voice - I want to find out more - They come to my home town in London later in the year so I will go and see them play live.
They are great live. I saw them in Munich last year - though the Zenith location has no great sound. Still magical - when everyone sings along. Intimate, like in your living room while surrounded by hundreds of people ❤
They played recently in Rome and I feel so stupid for taking time to listen to them just now. Hope they come back to play here soon. This is incredible..the emotions, the melancholy, the tie in my throath that im feeling while listening to this beautiful music.
How many bands are there - I’m talking the best of the best - where you’re enjoying the entire new album without a second of impatience waiting for the “old stuff”?! I’ve seen them in concert on every tour since High Violet …spectacular every time …especially seeing them at Red Rocks on Colorado …highly recommend any fan make that pilgrimage when they play there. Beyond beautiful in every way ❤
I’ve seen them vip in Ogden, UT during I am easy to find, and it was godly being right up next to them all. The rain and wind were perfect. During dark side of the gym Matt commented “hey, the trees are all moving, this couldn’t be more perfect for this next one.”
Astounding. I could listen to Matt sing his shopping list. Superb musicians. How many times do you rave about the drums ? Bryan Devendorf is tremendous, as are the whole band.
No bullshit - this might be the best live concert I’ve ever seen and I don’t say that lightly. Amazing energy and the highest quality of musicianship - fearlessly authentic and genuine in every way. Wow.
Can I give like 1000 hugs/likes , have been listening to this for 10 times already at least. Hoping to experience their music live in Serbia one day. :)
The best live recording of graceless I've heard - and I've been on RUclips looking for the best ones for near 10 years now. So glad you guys still play that song live!
Yup , New Order T Shirt still stabs me directly in the heart. The snapshots of love… Everything they do and put out is so effortlessly refined while still coming across raw and authentic. Matt growling and skating his lyrics all over the place, yet just managing to stay in the pocket woven so intricately by Bryan, Scott and Kyle, while Aaron and Bryce flicker virtuosic licks over everything. Truly one of a kind. Can’t wait to see them live in Denver and Austin!
Every time I hear a song I’ve never heard before by The National my first reaction is always “OMG! This is the greatest song I’ve ever heard…” I wish I was joking too…
WE NEED THE LIVE ALBUM OF THIS!!!!!!!! I cant imagine not listening it on vinyl while sitting on the floor, half drunk thinking of all "what ifs" and feel like being there at this concert myself.
I saw them this week live in Mexico City and it was a truly unforgettable experience. The intensity and talent they bring when performing live is amazing and made me shiver several times during the concert Have been listening to different live recordings from them since the concert and this video is the best I found. These guys are absolutely unique!
I’m on the train to St Austell in Cornwall, UK, on the way to see you play at the Eden Project. Watching this to get the juices flowing. It’s going to be a good good night.
Saw them last year with my girlfriend at a Belgium festival, only regret is I didn't took the time to see them earlier! When I'm having a drink I keep listening to the national🤪🥰 still already a fan for over 20 years with a drink and without one 😍
Don't worry mate. They play your way a lot . Just watch for tour dates. I saw them a few times already. First was in 2009 when they were just starting out. Small club, and a great night. Cheers.
the last one for me was 10 years ago. It was Reflektor by Arcade Fire and I spent countless nights listening to it. Now, thanks to The National, the same is happening. These jewels are not easy to find.
I enjoyed listening 🎶 to the music. Tears of joy. ❤Beautiful! I must admit my first time listening to the band. Guess I'm an old souI, listen to old music. I prefer music then to watch TV. I heard something driving home and decided to Google. I'm glad I did. All of the musicians are great!❤
Why did it take me so long to find The National - just a month or two ago when Radio Woodstock played The Alcott? And to think this concert took place less than a half-hour from my home. It must have been quite an experience to be there, very different from next week's Madison Square Garden show. Superb concert film; the camera work and audio were excellent. Great music - thanks!
I so agree - saw them for the 7th time recently in Leeds - best show I have ever seen by anyone in 50 years of gigs - they deserve to be ranked up with the best of the best - Beatles, Stones etc.
Can't wait for my first National concert in Munich this October ! ❤ Eucalyptus already seems like the new Mr. November, although they're playing it early in the setlist

I'll say it again and again...that drummer is so gd good and so gd underrated. His hi hat work is phenomenal.
