Lectric XP Simple Brake Adjustments To Stop Scraping Noises
HTML-код

- The first thing I noticed when I took my Lectric XP Step-Thru for a ride was that there was a slight scraping noise coming from my front brakes. After doing a little youtube research, I realized that scraping and squeeky noises were common for mechanical disc brakes on electric bikes and some issues were not that difficult to resolve.
In this video, I will show you some of the easy adjustments that can be made on most bikes that have mechanical disc brakes with similar designs to the type on the Lectric XP ebikes.
Here are some of the videos I watched to learn more about adjusting mechanical disc brakes. In my opinion, the first video made by Park Tools was the most informative:

Thanks for the helpful tips! I just had my 1st ebike delivered 2 days ago. The 1st day it was delivered late so all I really did that day was charge the battery and put the bike together. The 2nd day I was excited to go for a ride and while inflating the tires to the manufacturers recommended PSI I noticed the rubbing sound of the rotor while turning the wheels and the wheels wouldn't spin freely at all. I was very hesitant to make any kind of adjustments to the brakes of my new and expensive bike. But I know that noise will drive me nuts while riding. I can't wait to try the simple tips that you told us about. Hopefully adjusting the silver brake adjustment a click or 2 will do the job, cause I don't want to have to fuss with the calipers at all. Thanks again!
Check to make sure that your brake cables are seated properly at the place where they meet the calipers. Sometimes during shipping or packing the brake cable will come out of the bottom where it meets the caliper and simply needs to be lightly pushed back into place and it all runs well.
It would be easier to hear the brake noises without the background music. Your videos are excellent and very helpful, but I would love for you to lose the music. Thanks for the great info.
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, that was a huge mistake. Definitely a poor choice to play around with background music in that video.
Yes! Correct! Thank you for the video btw
Exactly what I was going to comment. Lol
Thank you. Saved me a trip to the bike shop! I’m a newbie and it’s great to see people like me fixing their own bikes!
My wife and I are new to electric bikes. One of our new bikes came out of the shipping box with an annoying brake noise, and this was more "squeal" then the "metal-grinding" type, so I went to "RUclips University" and found your video. Your instruction was easy to understand, and covered all of the key points necessary to eliminate the noise problem. You made a great comment about not touching the brake rotor, and I will add that it is extremely sharp. Wear gloves when working around it. When that disk is spinning, it looks more like a meat slicer. As a side note, the background music is a bit distracting to hear the sounds from your bike, and that is minor. Thank you, and keep 'em coming! ( I subscribed)🙂
Thank you so much. I have never worked on a bike before. So far your videos have helped me, fix a flat tire , and now do a brake adjustment. You're a great "teacher' .
Glad the videos are helpful! Thanks!
I have been riding and wrenching motorcycles for 45 years but I am new to ebikes. This is great information. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I really appreciate the feedback and support.
I need to buy myself that bike kit. I couldn't find it on your description list.
Thank you for these TIPS, I can't wait to adjust my breaks. I can hear them scraping.
Enjoyed your video and is very helpful. One issue or suggestion; when you want your listeners to listen for something, shut off your music so they can hear what you’re discussing. Just a suggestion.
1000% agree. Sorry about that. I got over zealous in that video wanting to test having background music and blew it. Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to comment.
Just watched and rewatched this several times and successfully adjusted my front brakes.
brilliant very helpful video! I had contacted Lectric about the scraping sound in my brand new bike, and they suggested to just keep on using it as-is, that hopefully after a break in period the scraping would disappear by itself. thanks so much (Lectric should pay you a commission for your assistance to the Lectric community)
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I have more Lectric videos planned for gear upgrades and Tannus tire liner installs.
Thank you so much! Rode my bike for the first time today and that noise was driving me insane and I have no idea about bikes. You saved me! Great explanation.
Glad it helped! Congrats on getting your Ebike! Ride safe!
You are awesome. I just checked both my bikes because the front brakes on both are really full and both making that rubbing noise. Sure enough both needed that cable reseated. Lol. Fixed. I cannot believe we have rode 28 miles with them like that. I thought it was the fender rubbing. It was the front brakes.
Thanks for sharing! I always wondered if I might have been the only one with that issue. Glad to hear it was an easy fix for you.
You are my new best friend
Thanks so much I just got my new XP 3 and when I heard that noise just rolling it in my living room I was feeling not so great so I found your video and I did the adjustment although with this new version it doesn’t click it was my front wheel that I had the issue with. It doesn’t click, but I just turned it until the noise went away then I tried to tighten it a little bit to see so I can adjust it just to the point where the noise goes away. And in fact, the noise did go away and I’m a happy camper. Thank you so much you’re legend 😎✌🏼
The only other issue that I see is there’s a chip in the paint on the bike a fairly large chip that happened due to shipping i assume. I guess there’s nothing that can be done about that.
Glad you were able to stop the scraping brake noise. Regarding the chip that happened during shipping, I would reach out to Lectric to let them know what happened and see if they have touch-up paint or any other policy to help you out.
@@EbikeProducts thank you very much. I did reach out to them and they sent me some paint in the mail. The only thing now is my front and rear brakes are making a loud squeaking noise when I brake I’ve only written the bike for 8 miles. I called the company and they told me to clean off the rotors with alcohol so I did that and will see if that helped. Haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I just need to break in the brakes 😂
Hi Greg- my bike also came with a marked chip, so I emailed Lectric with a photo of the problem. Within several days I had a tube of touch up paint in the mail and hubby did an excellent job of repairing the chip. Give Lectric a jingle!
Just received my Lectric XP, which has a rubbing noise in the rear wheel. Found your excellent DIY video to fix this minor problem. Many thanks for your sharing.
Glad it was helpful! Little noises can be very annoying and I’ve seen videos where the riders hear it and say they just ignore it.
Once again you have made a simple, effective, and useful post for a neophyte XP rider. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks!
Your first tip helped me out from a tight front brake after a fall, 1 second fix, thanks brother!
Every XP owner should watch this! 👍
Thanks!!
Thanks for the excellent video and special thanks for the additional lighting to highlight what you're talking about.. So many how-to's are under lit.
Thank you for your video, my front brake cable was off it's holder too. Easy fix as you stated!
Glad it helped!
Both my LP bikes had the front cable not seated as you showed. Fixed my issue perfectly!
Thanks for commenting! I wasn't sure if anyone else had the issue too.
Very Helpful, although I will need to REPEAT WATCHING your Videos, to make sure I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY, I am Now 71 and need MEMORY ASSISTANCE.👍🙋♂️😂🚴
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for posting this instructive video. Well illustrated and explained.
Thanks for the comment! Glad it was helpful.
FANTASTIC!!!! I really needed this 😎👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Your explanations and camera work are quite clear. I just might be able to do this. Other videos left my head scrambled. Two suggestions: 1st the video was six minutes in before you got to the problem, and 2nd it would be easier to hear the rubbing if there was no music.
Thanks for commenting! I've decided to cut out the music in the future unless it's when no other audio is necessary. I appreciate the input! I'll also try to get to the point faster in the future. It's been a battle as you can tell I love to talk. My wife agrees with you 100% lol.
@@EbikeProducts background music was fine, I know the rubbing sound very annoying. You also gave a visual several times front and back exactly wear the rub occurs.
Gunalcheesh (thank you) This video was very well understood. I appreciate the attention to detail. Gunalcheesh from Alaska🥶😁🙏🙏
Thank you that was helpful I'm especially thankful you included what size tools to use
This was an amazing video and helps me so much. Very informative and such am easy video to watch...
I learned something new today. Thanks
Thanks For A Wonderful Video My Wife And I Are Most Grateful For Your Tips Learning So Much From Your Videos They Have Taken The Stress Off Minor Repairs We Can Do Are Selfs Thanks Again
Glad to help! I appreciate the feedback and have more tutorial stuff coming soon.
Thank you! Very clear explanations with excellent visuals. Now I am not afraid to adjust my brakes.
Thanks!!! this really help me out no more brakes rubbing
Excellent three-minute video! Why the hell is it 12 minutes long?!?!
Haha. Im really sorry about that. It was made when I was still figuring out how to make RUclips videos and rambled a lot. Still have a problem rambling, but the constant comments from videos like this one are a great reminder every time I start making a new video to cut the ramble. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Your video literally solved all of my probelms. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the help. This really comes in
handy .My bike just developed a scring noise.
great video..hepled me out with an adjustment on my VIVI bike
Great Video ! Thank you !

Solved my brake noise problem and enjoyed the video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
Life saver! Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Both methods worked for me. Thank you very much for this video.
You're welcome. Glad it helped!
Exactly what I needed for my new ebike Himo C26 👌
Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful video, as always. Thank you, sir.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! this is really great info and will save me a lot from researching the net should I encounter brake issues like this. Cheers!
Nicely done. to the point and very informative. Nice smile by the way too!
Thank you for watching and the kind words!
Exactly the issue I was experiencing. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. But please lose the background music because it drowns out the scraping noise.
Great videos, learning lots about these E bikes!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
The second part of this is really useful. My XP was completely thrashed out of alignment in shipping and braking caused a demon sound. If you just tweak that silver spinner slightly, you can make it go away. It shouldn't be bending the disc when you clamp down on the brake. Adjust it so that the disc stays basically where it is and you should be good.
My rear brake no longer works. Do I need to tighten the rear brake pad via the silver spinner? I've tried tightening and loosening the brake wire and neither works.
Thank you, your guide has helped my bikes👍
Great to hear! Thank you for the feedback! I really appreciate it.
Good video. This is a good quick fix if your inner brake is rubbing. I did make adjustments for both, but the brakes continue to rub. Unfortunately, on both front and back outer brakes. I don't have the strength to loosen the hex nuts on the brake caliper. I guess I will have to live with it. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the tips, just received my xp and noticed the scraping right off. Can't ride it yet still have snow.
Thank you!!! Wow, so glad i happened to randomly see this, I have had this problem for weeks and it was driving me nuts! I finally emailed support and they said I probably have a warped rotor, and mailed me a new one (no charge, top notch service). I have been procrastinating diving in to replacing it and so glad, because I just performed the one click adjustment on the rear brakes and that did it! NOTE: after close inspection I do believe the rotor is warped so I’m treating this as a temporary fix until I swap the rotor. Watching your video, in one shot your front rotor it looked like yours might be warped too? I used a simple laser while it’s spinning to confirm.
Thanks for all your hard work and time to help others, greatly appreciated!
Thanks for this info... very useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. My XP is on order so this gives me what I need to know. Thanks
Awesome! Congrats on your order! Are you getting the 1.0 or 2.0? Either one you get, you're going to love it. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you
Cool. I did not know that there was a screw for adjustment , I try It and then solve my problem
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Great to know. Very helpful😅
Thanx for that!
You bet!
Brilliant
Awesome dude!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the very helpful vide. On my new XP 2.0, the rear wheel caliper adjustment bolt is partially blocked from the opposite side of the wheel. I had to cut down an Allen wrench to create a very short end (about 3/8") on the right angle. This way I was able to access the adjustment bolt from the caliper side. I wondered if all XP 2.0 bikes were like this.
Thank you...
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video. Honest and clear. Thank you. I was able to learn a couple of things from you.
Thank you!
Vidéo très utile, merci beaucoup ! 👍👍👍
Thank you very much full or formation👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks ❤
You're welcome 😊
Quick suggestion: lay off the background music on your next videos. It doesn’t let us hear the noises you are describing and doesn’t add any value either. Thanks for the tips, though.
This is really helpful, but... was the music so necessary? When the whole point of the video is about scrape noises?
Thank you, thank you! You do a great job at explaining things simply and to-the-point and stay focused on your topic. You explained the fix for my new Lectric XP Lite in the first few minutes of your video. (The second scraping sound scenario.) I didn't hear a "Click" when I adjusted mine, but I just made an ~ .25 turn and the problem disappeared! You're wonderful and I really appreciate the help you gave me on my new e-bike! You'd make an excellent teacher!
🚴♀💯🥰; -)))
This is exactly the same problem I had with my Lectric XP Lite a slight scraping as well. Yea quick fix was all it took.
The actual adjustment happens at 5:15
Dont forget some calipers have a set screw you have to loosen first.
Yes! Thanks for the tip! I really need to redo the video and show different ebike brakes.
Thanks for a great informative video.
Thank you for commenting and subscribing to the channel. I really appreciate the support. Safe riding!
Thanks for this video. I'm thinking of getting the XP 2.0.
Good choice!
I also did a very simple adjustment to scraping brakes--it seems the clearance was just too tight and I just rode down a hill with the brakes lightly clamped to wear them down just enough to clear and it worked. My new ebike--the clearance on the hydraulic brakes is extreme--literally maybe a mm on each side so the slightest adjustment and the other side scraped. So if the clearance is extreme like mine--and you do not want to set the pads and it is barely doing it--you can try what i did.BTW I use to mountain bike and sometimes when new pads scraped--but they were even--folks would just go fast and just microscopically wear them down a little.
Thanks for the tip! I never thought about just doing a 'breaking in' run on a new bike to get some of the parts to adjust themselves. I appreciate the comment and will definitely keep that in mind in the future.
@@EbikeProducts All good got my ebike 2 weeks ago and fiddled with the dang brake rubbing for over an hour before I remembered this trick from my mountain bike days. These new hydraulic brakes did not even have enough clearance for me to eve slip my business card in between them to try that trick--and I have laminated very thin but tough business cards--problem has not returend.
You really do an excellent job on your video's. Thank you
Thanks so much. Glad you like them!
Subbed and liked months ago, Thanks again for another in detail and very helpful tutorial. I also watched 7-8 vids.
You summed up everything nicely, my brake levers were becoming very spongy and becoming dangerous as in not
stopping. Front and back levers could be pulled into the handle bars. Barrel adjustments, and tighten the cables did the trick. Thank-You Tinkering Turtle channel and Citizen Cycle channel. 400 miles on the 2021 Himiway Cruiser. I kicked my Volt Canadian/Chinese 750(true 500) Yukons to the curb, held onto them for friends to ride low tide on the beach.
We are in Ventura CA, area. Let's RIDE and you can review the Himi and the fake arse 750's true 500 Volt bikes.
Excellent instructions, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
1.5 years later, I have 180mm rotors 4 piston hydros. Stops like a race bike. 1400 miles no problems at all.
Great video helpful. How about a rear wheel "replace tube" video- Particularly of the new XP3- which is slightly different than the XP 2?
thx for the help
Great video
Thanks!
Thank you for your videos, I have not received my Electric e-bike yet, but the question is do I need the entire (Bike Hand 34 piece Complete Bike Repair Tool Kit) seems like a lot? If im just starting out. Is there a smaller version of this that would include the Torque wrench? Thanks again for all your time.
I honestly think that you can get a ratchet wrench set, a socket
Wrench set, and a long handle T hex wrench set (all metric), and a small home tool kit that has screwdrivers, wire cutters and pliers. This will get 90% of repairs taken care of.
I don’t use 80% of the stuff in the bike tool kit anymore. Just make sure you have a 15mm and 18mm wrenches and sockets when you buy your sets. Also be sure to get long handles on the hex T wrenches and the kind with balls on the end. Makes things 100x easier.
Lectric should offer the option for mechanically linked hydrophilic brakes. Its only $20 per wheel more. Basically the same cable, but the caliper has 2 pistons instead of one, thus more evenly applying pressure to the brake pads... Its worth the upgrade..
I 100% agree. With the buying power they have, I bet a lot of people would upgrade. For $40 total, I would! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The problem for me is that the click screw, once loosened to give the disc some clearance between the brake pads, then rubs up against the middle of my wheel, they're by creating a new point of friction
Oh, that's not good. You will need to do an adjustment on both the click screw and center the calipers as well. Unfortunately, there are also some instances where a bike mechanic may be needed to do the adjustments if it keeps rubbing after the simple adjustments fail.
Love your video … can you tell me or make a video why is my break laver all the way to my handle but still not breaking ? Thank you
I really like your video but I have a suggestion. You have music playing low in the background when you're asking us to listen to a faint sound coming from the wheel. Would it not be best to have complete silence in the background when you're explaining that. I know a lot of people making videos have a problem thinking music is required for there production. It's not
