The "Rim Brake For Life" crowd is laughing at me right now...
Didn’t Tupac say that? Rim brakes are definitely my first choice. I only use a disc brake bike for my winter commute.
Yes we are sir
@@paulmorrison30 think you mean “Thug Life” 🤣
@@PatrickLino 🤣🤣🤣
At least you don’t have it tattooed on your chest 🤔
Thank you! I've had no luck solving this problem. Nice, easy-going tutorial too.
Patrick Lino, I like the straight forward information and the clarity how you presented, and yes it will help a lot if I run into the same problem. Thank you a bunch and cheers to you.
Thanks for watching!
I've been a tech at a bike shop for 5 years. This stuff is AMAZING!!
Indeed!!
Thank you for a great video, Patrick. Just the tip I needed for my squeaky brakes!
Thanks for watching!
Solid as always ✊🏾
Thanks for watching!
You've got that bob ross relaxing sort of voice. So much better than the average bike maintenance video.
I do love hydraulic disc brakes. Who likes rim brakes??
Haha thanks for watching Ziggy!
"Who likes rim brakes?"
Me! And friction shifters.
I still like rim brakes but I like disc brakes more.
Thanks for that tip!!😊
Great info 👍 !! It works! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Hi guys and girls and of course you Patrick!. There is a far easier way to stop disc squeal and you don't have to even take the pads out!. First a good squirt of dish washer liquid into the calipers and then blast it out with a hose pipe it will foam up like he'll so rinse until clear. Then spray the discs both sides with motorcycl muc off and leave for at least 5 mins and blast off with the hose again. Next thing to do is get some thick paper kitchen towel and clean the discs both sides do this quite firmly you will be shocked how much dirt/oil comes off!. Now either leave the bike in the sun to dry the calipers for a short while or use a hair dryer job done quickly and cheaply!!. Ps use good dishwasher liquid like fairy liquid not the cheap shit give it a go you have nothing to loose and has always worked for me.
Patrick another informative video well done keep up the good work 👍🏽
Thanks for the support as always Ian!
I started racing road in 1973 when I was 12 years old, and track about a year later. Nothing special, only club level. However, I was in A grade for a number of years. There is nothing wrong with rim brakes at all. They will still send you head first over the bars if you jump on them too hard. The secret is to wind your rosary beads around your stem and bars. This not only improves the braking quality of rim brakes and assists in aerodynamics, but will also prevent the aforementioned scenario of going head first over your bars whilst engaging your front brakes.
In all honesty, I was more offended to see you riding a carbon bike. That is nothing short of heresy.
On a side note; I almost wet myself laughing when you said "Man, I look dark in this video." I shan't be the one who states the obvious.
More power to your legs and happy cycling.
Edit:- I liked and subscribed.
Excellent video. I would hope the manufacturer would host or compensate you for selling their product. I'm buying a jar right now.
I wish they would compensate me too haha. Thanks for watching!
I've never had them squeak quite that bad. That was horrible! Usually just whipping them down with alcohol or acetone takes care of it. Reading the reviews, it seems very popular with the e-bike crowd for obvious reasons. One reviewer had to describe his Pinarello F10 with Red AXS as if that makes any difference at all. LOL!
I must have did something terribly wrong when I first installed these brakes. None of my other disc bikes squeal like this haha
@@PatrickLino or you got something really bad on them when riding. Who knows. All better now though. I just ordered me some to have on hand just in case. Thanks for the tip. I didn't know about it.
@@DaveCM a blob of grease from a truck, axle or kingpin, dropped on the ground and then flicked up on the rotor :)
Such a happenstance is not out of the realm of possibility, or any number of other road contaminants.
"Because I am a lazy scumbag"...ha ha🤣🤣. That had me laughing!!
🤣🤣🤣
Any uk versions? Can’t seem to find it anywhere
Instructions were unclear, now I have rim brakes...
Why were you not at Lincoln Park crit???
@@PatrickLino Man, I can't play pretend pro all the time!
Did you notice a visual difference once the compound was removed, like that black residue that develops over time being removed?
Good question! I have to check haha
Sir my gear cycle brakes are making too much noise when pressed what is the reason
How fine is the grit on that stuff? I wonder if you would get similar results with a grinding compound or something.
Just wondering if this is actually formulated for bikes, or if it is a case of "hey, lets slap the word 'bike' on it and charge more!"
Haha the “made for bikes” increases the price! The grit is course enough to cut, but not polish. I think as long as the compound itself is completely oil free it may work
The more disc brake videos I watch, the happier I am with my rim brakes. In addition I think that the Ventoux wheels (with their textured surface) have an above average rim brake.
Yup the rim brake version of the Ventoux have great braking performance (I'm told).
I'm old enough to remember the same things with rim brakes, tutorials on cleaning and deglazing rim brake pads, how to toe in the brakes, etc etc etc.
There is nothing new under the sun 🤣
@@galenkehler Can't win either way 🤣
@@PatrickLino I can, lol I built my bike with a disc brake in the front and rim brake in the back, I'm winning no matter how you swing. 🤣
It's sold out everywhere, is there an alternative?
It's impossible to find this stuff now - did they stop making it? PS I'm in Chicago as well... got any left?
Yes can nor find !!!!
Same, looking for it myself.
Copperslip costs pennies from motor factors and applied to the back of the pads does same job. Or you could just decontaminate the pads and discs with emery paper.
Thanks!
Wher can you purchase sqeal out.cant find on Amazon
Can you leave a link......
Must be sold out ☹️
Didn’t even finish the video, and bought it. Hopefully now my riding buddies will shut up about my squealing brakes
Let me know how it goes!
@@PatrickLino will do.
@@PatrickLino just reporting back. Works! Even on my mtn bike that had severe glazing.
@@thecappy Yo this is awesome to hear! Definitely a game changer!
What liquid??
I just go ride in the sand near the river, the water and sand do the job well. yea I realize road bike not made for that terrain.
Haha I love the resourcefulness
I'm a rim brake guy BUT totally understand the reason for this technology: carbon fibre rims + rains + mountains = certain death. You need disc brake for that. BUT Disc brakes are dangerous for light bikes. Rim brakes and aluminium rims are better. Most people use aluminium rims. I am Glovo cyclist. Riding 20.000kms per year. I use aluminium rims.

Turtle Wax rubbing compound works at 1/5th the price and 3 times the amount. $30 vs $6 and 3oz vs 10oz
Thanks for watching!
How do you do it with turtle Wax stuff just the same way apply a thin coat to it and turn it with your hand then take it for a drive??
How do you do it with turtle Wax stuff just the same way apply a thin coat to it and turn it with your hand then take it for a drive??
In the beginning, I can see your brakes are rubbing really bad, making you also cycle harder. It should only squeak when you are braking. If it squeaks while not breaking, you've got to do some maintenance to do (realignment of the rotor)
Video is like 3 years old now
😊
"I'm a lazy scumbag" 😂😂 I would call it, working smarter not harder.
🤣🤣
try using Drywall sandpaper screen!!
interesting!
If they squeal that bad then usually the pads need replacing or the disc is not aligned properly. I don't think that paste does anything that a good clean with iso would do. That front rotor looked dirty to begin with. 4 years use of disc brakes and i've never had a squeal that bad.
Thanks Dan!
I got a little oil on my brand new rotors and pads and they squeaked just like this. Tried cleaning with ISO and sanding down the pads three times, it helped a tiny bit but they still made way too much noise for my liking. I purchased this paste and it works! Took ten minutes and the noise is gone.
what happened to your rim brake allez sprint
Sold looooong time ago
@@PatrickLino how does the disc compare
@@unclespliff_productions Better stopping force, and more options for wheels
I hate disc brakes! How did I let someone convince me to buy a bike with these perpetually painful and heavy devices? Not that you can buy a decent road bike with rim brakes any more. It's like a plot to send you to your LBS and give them money all the time. I will try the paste though and I like that this is an option for the more desperate of us. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Denatured alcohol will fix it too. Rub it on, wipe off
Why doent you just use fine sand paper on the discs and pads?
🤷🏾♂️
@@PatrickLino If you are trying to save money, whats the price difference between the paste and a shoot of 300 sandpaper. Everyone has brake cleaner at home. Paste is messy albeit simple
Unfortunately this stuff is hard to come by....sold out everywhere or its not being made anymore. 😢
Dang that's too bad. I had no clue.
I don't know why but I like the sound of disc brake squeal and not the sound of free hub😂🤣
Waking up your neighbors 🤣🤣
🤣😂
Sir they are not normal brakes they are disc brakes of my gear cycle
Wax ??
????
Toothpaste is also lightly abrasive. Maybe that can work too?
If it has no oil it should work! People clean their jewelry with toothpaste
I'm going to try using tooth paste.
Let me know how it goes!
What’s the verdict? I’ve got a bike here that needs full send on brake restoration.

Yea, this is disc brakes do when the bike reach certain of age. Rim brake still the best.
Thanks for watching!
What’s the cause of the squeaking? What’s the relation to age? Oxidation of the rotor?
helmet.
hahaha
Just sand them
