Just bought the same model. At first I thought the face was just a little bit busy and was going to return it. My AD told me to wear it over the weekend and on Monday I could bring it back if I still wanted to. Kept it over the weekend, wore it, and everyday liked it more. Excellent time keeper and I think the band it came with matches it nicely. Overall, 5 stars out of 5. P.s. It wears smaller to me than a 38. However, that’s what I like about it.
I have a Timex , a Citizen Eco-Drive . A vintage Bulova automatic . Also a Orient Bambino . It is time I got this watch . I tried it on in the store and fell in love.
I feel like the Hamilton Khaki series is turning into a collectors must have. We all know about the Speedmaster, the Submariner, even the Seiko monster or turtles series but the Khaki seems like a no brainer to me. They make all sizes and dial colors to suit your needs. I do agree that full lume dial with some C3 would be a game changer!
@@JustWatchreviews Yes, I would definately love A screw down crown and AR coating. Would even be willing to pay just a bit more for these features. Better lume would be a bonus. If I’m honest, AR should be a given on watches with Saphire Crystal, feel like this is a total miss from Hamilton. But, I’m still looking for one on the used market. @ $300, can’t beat the price.
I have a new style Omega Seamaster 300 that I use at the weekends, a G-shock and a couple of Vostoks. I use this Hamilton for work. I'm finding it really hard justifying buying anything else since I bought it. ( a dress watch maybe) I love all of my watches but the Hamilton is special, it offers incredible value and is so adaptable. What a great watch.
I was in the same boat, ended up selling the others and keeping the Hamilton. Absolutely love this watch, it's the best all rounder for the money. I sometimes think of buying a dress watch as well.
Trying to guess sizes just from videos. 38mm seems way too small for my wrist and usually 42mm is my minimum, but I'm afraid that lug to lug length might sabotage that. Nothing looks worse than lugs dangling past the wrist.
I picked up my latest original (1967 dated), Hamilton GG-W-113, for less than half the current price of that re-boot. Mine went to 'Nam, those re-boots will probably go no further than the gym.
If this thing had good lume, AR coating and was without the numerous reports of WR failure on the forums, it would be pretty much perfect for the money. I'd really like an elegant mid-sized field watch that is swim-able with diver-class lume. Can't really think any I like the look of under $600 though.
Seiko Alpinist comes to mind. The discontinued SARB017 is 200 metre water resistant and can easily be dressed down or up from my experience so far with it. Lume is pretty good. It goes for 420 dollars on Amazon right now, unlike the 2020 models.
I also have this watch (the Squale too). I have not noticed an issue using the watch in direct sunlight. It certainly does not become unreadable. The AR on the Squale however turns the dial blue in any direct lighting. I really don't like it. If I wanted a watch with a blue dial, that's what I would have purchased.
I have had mine about 3 mouths . Love it but am having the same problem with the stap . It is to tight or a little to loose-fitting . I think I will put it on a Bond NATO come summer .
Nice one Mike. I love the Hamilton Khaki Field line. I have the 40mm auto and it has proved to be a tough, reliable watch, as well as looking great. Win, win.
I really like this one, the bracelet version has been on my wishlist forever. Because I have an older hammy mechanical I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Why have 2 field watches from the same company right?
Very interesting. The khaki mechanical is far more of an out and out military field watch whereas this has a charm very much of it's own. More like an IWC in many ways. Slightly more dressy but still tool/instrument lie enough to look good on a NATO. I love the extra detail on the dial compared to the mechanical as well. This looks like its value whereas the mechanical (dare I say it) looks no more expensive than watches costing half as much (even though it pains me to say it as I do love the mechanical. If you can only pick one its a very tough call.
It’s what I call a ‘tweener’. A ‘dressed up’ field watch. The case and dial are pure field watch but polished up with a little more finish on the dial. A dress watch would be a date just or Weill presage. This is a chino and shirt watch.
I bought the Field Khaki last summer, after wearing it bike riding it developed fogging under crystal. I never got it wet, yes I sweated but should not have happened. The polished bezel around crystal scratches easily. It stopped working soon after, very disappointed because I liked the look of the watch.
Just Watch maybe because of glass back but the condensation never happened there only under crystal. Watch was never under water only my sweaty wrist, and stupid me I didn’t pursue the warranty , I expected a hassle and couldn’t be bothered at the time. I since bought a BB 41 and love it. I’ve owned a Omega Seamaster for 20 years and still love that watch, could you do a review on the Omega Aqua Terra ( new one) I think that’s a great everyday any situation watch. Please keep up the great work !
Maybe you just got badluck. I work as a line cook at a restaurant and I wear my Khaki automatic everyday at work, it goes through a plethora of environments, I've had it submerged in water, it's always near fire, and I frequently visit the walk in freezer. I have had my Khaki automatic for 2 years now and it still works phenomenally
I keep hearing about this issue on Hamilton Khaki. I am so close to get the Khaki Field 38mm. But the water resistance issue bugs me from pulling the trigger. Ironically, the cheap Casio F91 can survive bathing, swimming, etc.
I try these watch in a jewelry yesterday. It's a very good value watch but i don't buy it because the strap is crap, not comfortable at all, it's a bit pitty for this range of price. But the case is beautiful.
Very few watch companies out there have gotten leather straps right. This is why there are so many after market strap companies out there like Barton for example. Do yourself a favor, alway purchase whatever watch you are buying on bracelet, and source a strap elsewhere.
Thanks for reviewing. I just purchased this watch and was told by Hamilton that I had to wind it manually after not using it for a while. I’m not convinced by their answer, what do you think? The problem was that if I used it one day, and left it still overnight, the next day the watch would be stopped. I would appreciate your input, cheers
Hi, it has 80 hours of power reserve, if you left it less than that you can take it again without wind it. If you don’t use it more than 80 hours, like all the automatic watches you have to wind it a little bit but turning the crown about 20 times, that’s it... it’s simple, you don’t have to worry it’s a good movment ETA. And you’ll see it’s a pleasure to do this operation time time. Good luck and wear it in a good health.
Mike, another great review of this watch. Seriously considering this watch in addition to my SARB035!. Question - would it be possible to replace the crystal on this watch for one with AR coating ? Would that be a simple fix to replace what I see as being the only issue with the watch?
Hi Dave, thank you, that's a great question, I'm wondering if a watchmaker could simply add AR to the existing crystal? It doesn't seem like it would be a difficult task for one. I really enjoy this watch, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it, even with an untreated crystal.
