K' is honestly one of the biggest reasons I got into KOF. The moment I saw him do some Albert Wesker type shit with his Chain Drive was the moment I was sold on this series
Funny, K' is also why i got into KoF, but i loved more the 1 inch punch at the end of the super, or how it was part of his combo.
That's one of the greatest things about KOF, its characters, they're really appealing and it's amazing
Big same. I see him in the local Neo Geo machine, then bought it for the PS1.
Crimson Star Road is mine, I always loved the Raging Demon-like moves and he just kills you with a thumb down, greatest shit I ever see
It's a huge shame that Max can't get into K' gameplay. K' has such a fun gameplay
You didn't experience the full Shingo maining experience. He hits like a truck to make up for the goofiness... If you land the combos the chance of getting critical hits (+25% damage) is huge!
I'm sorry, hold up... Did you just say that Shingo has a Crit mechanic? Excuse me?
I second that opinion. Never mained Shingo myself but he can deal a surprising amount of damage.
@@AntanovOCEFGC please look up on YT Best of shingo KOF 2002 UM and you will see what we mean.
I think he missed out on maximas gameplay to. He didnt try his air grab or full reckas or light vapor cannon
Shingo is a legend in KOF 97 because his first one hit super takes 75% dmg, if you lose more than 25 % he gets dangerous if his supers hit you up 🤔
10:06 The way "Dear Falling Angel" kicks in with the machine in the background gearing up.
This.
One of the best tracks in KOF series.
I prefer the KOF 99 version of Dear Fallen Angel than the 2002UM version tbh
@@meganinten0078 yeah, 2002 feels "repetitive" to me. I like much more the 99 one. The machinery noises in the background are a nice touch.
You outta listen to the arranged version. They really go all out on that version.
Seeing Max this unimpressed by 99 and '00 makes me genuinely concerned for when he starts up '01
I have watched the stream and Max thinks KOF 2001 plays a bit better than 99 and 2000 but he still didn't enjoy the NESTS Saga games. Expect 2002 because it plays similar to KOF 98 (AKA the 3vs3 format)
2001 is absolute dog shit though lol
2002 baby
@@BakiX I agree. It's freaking weird. The only reason why Max couldn't get used to 99 and 2000 was becase it's mechanics weren't as intuitive as the older games, if he had learned how to use his meter, and the other mechanics he'd have had a better time with the games. 2001 simply feels flawed.
He likes 2001 a bit better but still not a fan of the Nests Saga. He much preferred 2002 obviously and even 2003.
'99 was the first KOF i ever purchased. Saw it in a bargain bin or something for like $19 and figured at that price even if i didn't like it i would still probably get my money's worth. Prior to it i'd only played street fighters and KI and 3d fighters, foolishly believing snk games to be poor imitators. I ended up LOVING it and played it a ton. Loved SNK ever since.
it happened exactly the same for me except that i didnt like, i traded it for megaman 8 lol
My first KOF too! My Pakistani uncle, influenced by the huge FGC culture there, wanted to share that world with 4 year old me and got the PS1 version. I played the hell out of this game, and remember being super enchanted by Kyo and his supers. Would ask my uncle countless times to do the inputs for me, or when he wasn't there would end up getting blisters just mashing to try to get any cool moves out
Was it the Playstation version? I remember buying that and hating the ridiculous load times.
Exactly the same here. Thats when i realized i liked KOF and SNK characters more than Capcom. To me the characters were always cooler because lots of characters had charge grab and qourter circle moves ans always changed. Not just the same boring 3 4 moves Capcom characters had.
@@huesudowoodo Roll: "Good luck, megaman!" that game had the best/worst voice acting as you took on Dr. Wowee
Glad Max went through these games, I personally loved the Nests Saga for the introduction of some fan favourites like K', Vanessa, Ramon, Kula, Angel etc., the story I actually liked the human villian approach and whilst I agree '99 didn't feel as responsive as '97-98, imo it improved a lot by '00. Plus the absurdity you could get with Strikers to get TODs.
weird. I usually have similar tastes to max, but I love 99. the roll mechanics and max modes that encourage you to keep on the offensive, the plot going sci-fi, the best version of kyo and the (admittedly undercooked) introduction of strikers. so much to love about this game
Max is not really going after the game.
He played 99 and didn't give the clones a chance?
Nor did the play Kyo and Iori. Kyo in 99 was awesome.
ANd if you notice, he finds K DP playing KOF 2000. Like, he finished 99 and never tried his DP.
He is not really playing, just rushing to finish it.
I noticed that he really struggle in 94 and 95, where he played normal level, (level 4)
After that, he played 96 at level 1.
He is going for the easiest and fastest win.
@@BillyKamp TBF he has stated that he's not a hardcore KOF player and that some of the mechanics are not his cup of tea; the reason for the lower difficulty is because '94 Rugal took almost 3½ hours to beat (almost became a Boss Rage) and since it's a legacy he's just going through the games and not going all in.
@@djpegao I understand, but not even trying out how the character plays is going to impact his opinion.
@@BillyKamp Yeah, it's not like he has 15 KOF games to go through for a whole month or anything. 🙄
@@chestercastaneda4920 He has too? Who is pointing the gun to his head?
ANd like, was the 15 announced one week ago? No?
Oh right.
He did better jobs with other games. In this one he is hardly playing.
2:45 “He felt like an uncoordinated version of Dan.”
Greatest compliment Dan will ever get 😆
Yeah Shingo was uncoordinated because he was pretty much self taught the whole time and only got a wink of training for as much as Kyo cared to train him. Then Saisyu (Kyo's father) picked him up after the NESTS saga and trained Shingo himself. From then on Shingo became a better fighter overall and more coordinated 2003 and onwards.
Well... There's a whole new reason to main Shingo... He's a lot like Sean from SF3 series...
Shingo and Sean are just Dan but for people without any self-awareness.
@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN No...
Shingo literally gets better each new game, you can even see it in his moves. By KoF XI he no longer drops his attacks, failing only on the his new super where he gets cocky that he mastered all moves and tries to add extra hits on his Special move, and because of that he fails and falls on top of the enemy.
Shingo is literally a talented new fighter who is only now learning how to fight, because he never had formal training in any martial art style.
Dan is someone who is already trained and good enough to fight professionally, but he has no talent on Ki and Hadou manipulation so he reached a wall in his development as a fighter that he is struggling to overcome. They are both very different characters. Shingo could've easily become a Terry Bogard, or a Ryo Sakazaki if he wasn't just a student who got into the tournament by copying moves he saw Kyo execute, and had a Tung Fu Rue or Takuma to properly train him from the very beginning. Dan is someone who had a proper master but he still fails, because his Ki is lacking.
@@bloody4558 exactly, people who doesn't know KOF keep comparing Shingo to Dan but really they should compare Shingo to Sakura. Both self taught fighters to become like the people they admire the most, although for Shingo he can't use fire as that's a Kusanagi blood thing but he still gets trained in the Kusanagi ways by Saisyu as he still admires Kyo and eventually wants to be a worthy rival to him.
As a Mexican (we do love our KoF over here), and a person who grew playing this games, it terrifies AND amuse me watching you try to understand and play this games that i have played over the years, for me is natural and love them, for you is weird, love it.
Also, Yes, I find the whole Nest Saga dope, when i was a kid it was even cooler, now is stupid but still nostalgic dope.
Sorry I don't know much spanish.
Still love how the boss for KOF 2000 is Super Freddie Mercury. You can't stop him now!
Don't stop him now! 🎶
It's Omniman
I wish that was accurate difficulty wise. Clone Zero is such a push over.
Cos hes having a good time?
99 has a special place in my heart. It was my first entry into KOF, and the reason K Dash is one of my favorites.
I kinda feel the big reason is hard for you to get nto 99 and '00 is purely on the new characters that are the canon win team. It's obvious you're no comfortable with them, and since you are not looking up their moves and combos NOR practice with them a bit before going full, of course the mechanics of the game will feel weird or outright bad to you
It doesn't help that you're still trying to play the game in the same way as a SF game tho when KOF is not the same style
I like Max, but sometimes his ignorance can be a bit too much 🤣
SF game? Are you implying that KOF Orochi saga plays like an SF game, because Max played those perfectly fine.
Yeah totally agree. I dont think he knows the mechanics that well. It kinda shows in the gameplay. Cuz in kof idk about everyone else but i use roll a lot and cd to break guard. And with max it seems that he dosnt know how to play kof kinda?
Perhaps the reason lies in the fact that Max only bothers with SFA-based CvS2, and even then he neglects the SNK-based cast & grooves.
It’s genuinely painful to watch the doods play SNK characters and admit “I don’t know their supers!” when you grew up with KOF.
He’s clearly not playing the game to get better or to get deeper into the mechanic. All these vids is all to bring hype for the release of KOF15. I’m not sure why ppl expect otherwise. This is all for his channel
Wish he had unlocked the extra battle against Kyo/Iori in 99, besides that i disagree, 99 its a pretty solid entry, the series needed serious changes after Orochi saga, New characters, new story bug changes in gameplay but still keeps KOF's dna
He forced himself to play the story canon teams, with characters he dislike, so no wonder he was dragging his feet the whole stream.
@@rlizarragalopez4303 He didn't want to do the Terry Legacy again. I cimmend it
I have 99 in my neo geo arcade stick pro and I like to play it but it has emulated issues like lag/no input but the stick overall is my go to for fighting games along with a converter
The thing about Max is that he wants to play KOF as if it were Street Fighter, and it seems more clear when he said 94 felt better than 99 since 94 and 95 are the most closest to SF gameplay imo, to me i disliked those entries since the pace was slower and most characters had awkward motions on special moves, like Ryo having a charged move on his now tatsu-like motion
Max is just salty about being terrible at it and is making excuses.
That KOF99 rainy stage at the beginning is so beautiful. It really is pixel ART.
K' 's character and personality sold me on the series in general. Teleporting dude in a leather jacket with white hair, 2003 kid me was fascinated. Love this guy so much
Agreed!
I think the weirdness can be attributed to the major transitions going on in the company. Morale was low, they just got bought by a Pachinko company in January 2000, and I think the series suffered as a result. Since you're playing the arcade versions, I think a lot of the weirdness got ironed out in the home releases too.
On the flip side, the NESTS era was the same time that CVS and CVS2 came out.
They finally get their shit together around KOF 01 and the almighty KOF '02 but the NESTS saga ends in '01.
At least we got Norio MOTHERFUCKING Wakamoto as Igniz in '01. If you want a villain voice, hire Wakamoto.
you are correct. SNK didnt have proper manpower for developing and QC at that time.
Almighty 02 yeah sure
Mighty KOF2002 where all fan favourite from orochi saga and nest saga United together. We are hoping on KOF15 as well.
Norio is the best M.Bison in my opinion

Man I have to disagree on ‘99 feeling bad and “weird” to play. It never felt that way to me. ‘99 is a pretty solid entry in the series, I’ve always liked it. It has really good music, the striker system is pretty cool and adds some extra flavor, and the gameplay is just as tight and solid as any other game in the series. The one complaint I did always have was the weird change to rolling tho. But saying it feels worse than ‘94 is completely outrageous to me. Lol
dont get me wrong, 99 is my fav kof, but commands aren't responsive enough, definily behind 97, 98, 00, 02 in this caracteristic
I agreed with both of you :)
the only thing i don't like about 99 is the hop forward you do after you roll backwards
Key words being "to you" lol. I too did not enjoy 99 all that much but I know a lot of people that loved it.
He doesn't know how to play it and call it bad and no bueno? come on,it's sad that he does super awesome massive damaging combos in Ultimate Marvel 3 but he cannot do combos in a standard kof.Did you know that some of them get salty when i said that in their channel like they get offended? i mean what? i didn't said that they are bad persons i only said that they play badass in umvc3 but they cannot do combos in kof 2002um,one of them said something like:Really Helltio? really? and many of the chat were like he's going to get banned from your channel,i mean,WHAT? they get offended when they say they play bad like if we say something bad to them? haha.I really love their videos but don't say they play bad because you can get banned for saying that haha.
While I don't really like the strikers system I love the nests saga for the new characters and general vibe it has, K' still is my main in KoF.
Also 2000's music is some of the best in the whole franchise.
Max man, you broke my heart, KoF 99 is my fav KoF ever and one of my fav games ever, but it's not because of mechanics, that's the LAST thing. This game has a major role in my life for so many reasons...that doesn't make it a good game tho :(
EDIT: wow I love it that so many people in the comments love 99, 2000 and K'.
K' is one of my favorite things in the world, not just a fav character of all time, but just...from anything. 23 years later after 99 and I'm still crazy with all my heart for this character. Did any of you know he's a combo between two characters from a very unknown fighting game called The Fallen Angels? The character artist responsible, Shin'ichi Morioka, later joined SNK and made K'.
I know how it feels. I love iori. He has a major role almost in every kof lore. Even though that that doesn't make him protagonist :( any newbie creator can make him a joke.
Edit: do you know, being one of the 3 secret treasure makes him a Peacekeeper and a silent Guardian ?
I knew of KoF from Flash fan games of all things. Most popular ones ripped sprites from the NEST saga games so my first exposure to the franchise were K', Kula and the likes. Once I knew more about the series Iori, Leona and King ended up being my favourites, but I'll always appreciate NEST for introducing me to this series.
The NESTS saga is probably one of the most gratuitous in terms of "We _have_ to run this fighting game tournament in order to take over the world" storylines, but man did it introduce some cool characters. K' and Kula are easily in my Top 5 KoF characters.
I gotta admit, Zero calling Heidern a simp caught me off guard. KOF 2000 was truly ahead of its time. XD
@@TheDapperDragon Yeah, I know it's short for "Simpleton," buddy. I was just making a joke, no need to be a wet blanket.
Ahh KOF 2000. Where Takuma reverts a city level destroying beam like the mad lad he is.
For us it was an awesome display of power. For him it was basically flex day.
Max... the reason why the game feels weird is that you don't even know the character's moves. I mean c'mon you are only discovering K's DP in the middle of playing 2000.
The classic Kof 99 is one of my favorite aside from kof 2002 and 2013, the assist part is something new in 99 that some classic kof games doesn't have, like it 👍
Maybe that's the reason why assist were bad in terms of freeze you wen they came out or when you called them, maybe they were like a test and then in 2000 they were badass since you can call them whenever you want even if your ass is in the air haha.
@@helltioeverygames I agree with you.
2001 also improved the Strykers and gameplay.
Making your characters more or less powerful depending of how many strykers you choose was a great idea!
Plus making a long combo with 3 Strykers was cool!
It is a shame that KOF 2002 returned to the 3vs3 format and discarded the teams of four members and Strykers :(
Definitely was busted fun in 2000 with the easy various infinites for practically every character.
Ah yes, KOF 99 K' with his super powerful Chain Drive when he is in low health. Good memories. Barely overpowers the trauma of Krizalid tornadoes and axe kicks.
God Clone Zero looks so funny to me, he just looks like some normal dude in a wicked villainous cloak
That's pretty much what they were going for with his design, since he's a plot twist villain he's supposed to blend in when in normal clothes.
@@axelprino Yeah and I mean it makes sense, but like out of context like in 2002 UM seeing him next to all these other dudes who actually look intimidating is hilarious
@@ShinyGBZ true, it doesn't mesh at all with the other bosses in the series, that's probably why original Zero has the whole white hair thing going on.
@@ShinyGBZ clone zero looks cool.
I always thought the Nests saga was a considerable leap game wise and canonically especially but overall cool and loveable (‘99 and 2K) !!
I grew up with '99 specifically, love it to death. And yet Max's opinion really doesn't hurt me personally at all lol
I see a lot of ppl like me in the comments, who grew up with 99 and 00 and feel really upset that Max doesn't feel the same. Yeah, it'd be cool if he did, and it'd be cool if he stopped for a bit to practice combos with the canon teams, but at the end of the day this is a casual retrospective series. Not a "Watch this veteran 2 decade KOF master in his journey through the series."
With so many games in the franchise, and with '99 marking a shift in the way the games handled, it's only natural some are gonna hit the right notes and others not.
... Although the comment about '94 feeling better *was* pretty rough not gonna lie lol
Yeah, '99 was my first kof, because a old friend had it on PS1. It's what got me to get interested in the series as a whole.
Maybe too casual? I mean I expected a bit more from max. Guess I was wrong.
The fact that you don't know how to play those characters doesn't mean that the gameplay is weird, just they play diferent from Kyo, Beni and Goro. The assist mechanic was really fun, just you need to know how to use optimally those. And the story of nest saga is less loved just because the Orochi saga fits more the japanesse culture. just watching the cinematics isn't enough to understand tbh lol.
But for me that I start playing from 99, y really love the nest saga, just people need to know better these games
Max being Max.
I agree gameplay wise I wouldn't say it feels worse than '94, especially with '00 but I disagree that Orochi Saga being linked with Japanese culture being the only reason its better. The story just felt liked it flowed better with the staggered introduction of Orochi and the Hakesshu whilst NESTS felt like it backpeddled a bit with Clone Zero and Ignitz's motives not being as strong as Orochi.
How long did it take you to appreciate the gameplay in 99?
Not like or dislike, love/hate at first sight can happen, I'm talking about having a good grasp of all the universal mechanics and feeling comfortable playing at least three members of the cast.
I reckon it took you more than just finishing arcade mode once.
The english translation was under Google translate level, in both 99 n 2000 which may explain how unappreciated it was, especially for English native speakers i guess. The characters win quotes were horrible n the story was hard to read n understand.
That's fast but even so it's more time than Max had and it sounds like you already were a KOF regular by that point. Max is a Capcom fanboy that had never finished a single SNK fighting game arcade mode in his life before SVC 1 and only did it for the Akuma legacy.
By the end of this series Max will be a full fledge Benimaru main. Benimaru is in almost every main team 😂
Benimaru has won more tournaments than the others in the kof lore.
Oddly NeoBlood EX 1 on the GBA was my first game in the series for me, but it’s super easy how much aspects and content were straight ripped from ‘99 into that game… everything from the maps, UI, character sprites/art.
I always thought was funny that Mai was uncensored on the GBA but censored on the arcades.
99 was the first KOF I ever played when my aunt put the arcade cabinet in her store.
While I can see where you're coming from one thing I must say is that 00 has arguably the best set of music in the entirely installment!
it is the best ost. Like in all kofs there is some great tracks....but in 2000 all the tracks are good.
Maybe if 95 and 97 didn’t exist.
"Do people like the NESTS saga?"
Me, who knows what comes next: "Yes."
"99 feels worse than 94" is probably the worst take I've seen from max in years.
What the hell.
Ikr?
That's BS.
Max was very unfair.
These backgrounds are GOD TIER! Too bad people overlook these kofs for bad gameplay and only plays 98, but the backgrounds are pure art, it's insane that they made these games per year.
First time I played 99 I felt like the game was sluggish and weird especially after the nervous 98 but it grew on me quickly. It is a more slow paced game and need more anticipation rather than quick reflexes, I love it, it felt different at least.
I remember '99 when NESTS was trying to do the Bodegalypse on Earth.
Honest question, how did Benimaru end up on so many canonical winning teams?
Like, even after the Orochi saga, he was in I think 4 more winning teams between now and XIV? Was he put in the team to keep a character people were familiar with the new faces?
SNK, I need answers to a 20+ year old game!
Because he's cool
Benimaru: It’s about drive It’s about power
My brother and i always joke about this, Benimaru just happen to follow the next protagonist naturally, at least for a game.
Juan Camaney Benimaru IS part of the new Hero team, Being along the pillow kid and koreanprotagonist.
It's nice that Benimaru has the most wins because characters like Kyo, Iori, K', etc. don't need them because the games center around them all the time anyway. Might as well give the accolade to somebody who might actually do something with it. My favourite was that one odd game where Team Ikari Warriors actually won the tournament. I can't stand game/manga canons revolving around tournaments where it's just predictable.
"I read your moves like the Funny Papers" ~ Maxima
Jesus fuck, I thought Canada was a peaceful place, you murdered them.
99 Fun Fact Lore: Clones here work different from what you think cloning is
Here, the NEST cartel kidnap people and infuse them with Kyo cells to change his appearance, turning normal people into replicas of Kyo Kusanagi.
Here, K' is a modified clone of Kyo who have the Kusanagi flames, but the flames were so strong that, he have to use a glove to restrain the flames. K' was a kid when he was kidnapped by NEST and turn him into the best clone of Kyo there is. The only memory that he retains was a little girl calling him brother. In 99 K' and Maxima were send by NESTS cartel with the only memories that they need to win the KOF tournament for recolate data about the fighters.
In the end of 99 we found that Krizalid is a direct clone of K' and that is reveal by Whip, who her real name is Seira and we found out than Whip is actually a modified clone of K' sister, who was also kidnapped in the process and use like a guinea pig for the first stages of cloning but the girl didn't survive the experimens. They use the dead girl to realize the first cloning process. Whip is created but with the memories of the little girl, she work for NESTS and work side by side with Krizalid thinking he was his brother, until she discovers the truth and betray the organization and join the Ikari Warriors and tell everything about NESTS.
I prefer Whip over Leona.
I feel sorry for her.
She is just a clone not the real Seirah.
The NESTS Saga was dark...
It shows the darkest side of humanity and that's why I like about the villains in that saga.
They are humans
They are not an ancient god and his cult, not demons, aliens etc.
About the clones, it is weird how Krizalid was seen as the Ultimate Kyo Clone if he is actually a clone lf K'
The term Kyo Clone not only refers to the actual Kyo Clones (Kyo-1, Kyo-2 and Kusanagi) but also as people who got infused with Kyo's DNA like K' and K9999
Thanks for the summary.
99 indeed was weird
00 is the heaven for fun combos with strikers
Max trying to skip the how to play section: "DON'T EXPLAIN, STOP EXPLAINING!"
Also Max while playing in stage 1: "B and C? "Let's try B and C."
See that, kids? If only you never skip the how to play sections, you'd already know how to use Strikers.
I was really looking forward to when you would enter the nests saga, this is the saga who got me into Kof so I’m really happy it’s time
Edit: Also I can understand your confusion with the gameplay because the nests saga really is different from what came before, but, I can assure that if you give it a little time to learn you can see that the game has it charm (don’t get me wrong it isn’t perfect but it can still be fun)
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. If he would give it a bit more time I bet he would like them more. 2000 is super fun.
And it doesn't help that Max skipped the tutorial explaining the mechanics.
About to cry with this video, the NESTS Saga was my fav, i love the music, the Bosses and K' was for a kid on the early 2000's the coolest charachter ever dessigned... im glad you played it Max, i hope at least 2002 (my absolute fav) does something for you.
I feel your pain.
NESTS Saga is also my favorite.
@@meganinten0078 well yeah, i mean yes, the gampelay has it's quirky moments and it's not like the NESTS Saga was the first fighting games i could actually play well, or as if the sprites (ESPECIALLY "totally-ot-Tetsuo"s) blew my childish mind, or that as a Mexican i got the best two chatacters ever to represent my country AND be Protagonists for the first time in the form of Ramon and Vanesa or... no, it's ok, im fine, it's fine... really, it's fine... I SAID IM FINE.
I guess his combat ranking was so low that he didn't get to fight Kula in 2000? I didn't know that could happen.
Shingo Yabuki is one of my favorite KOF characters ever! I WISH they wouldve put him in Capcom vs SNK 2 Mark of the Millennium 2001
Max gotta watch some combo videos before playing the games if he wants to have an idea of what he can do, going in blind with characters he's not used to control is gonna be a learning curve IMO. These are not the usual shotos or charge characters everyone can figure out in a few minutes, Maxima is a slow hybrid of a grappler with rekkas and a lot of moves with armor for example.
He's gonna play KOF 2001 next and, to me personally that's the KOF with the best game feel ever. The gameplay is fluid and satisfying in that game.
Protips
K' in 2001: Jump & HK, HP, forward LP opens up so many combos. Also when you do the Shoryuken motion with HP, you can add forward + any kick to add 1 more hit that slams the opponent to the ground, a great addition to K's moveset
Maxima in 2001: Jump & HK, HP, then do his rekkas is an easy combo that can be cancelled into his LV2 as well, it should do between 30% (no cancel) to 80% damage (if cancelled into LV2)
Finally!
I have found someone who likes KOF 2001 👍
I also like the game.
In my opinion 2001 has the best version of the stryker system.
It is underrated.
I respect Max's opinion but that's doesn't mean I have to agree.
Max should have spend more time with the new characters and the gameplays.
From what I read, Max has already played the games on stream and these videos are edits of said stream, so you might be a bit late with this information.

What’s hilarious about Shingo is that despite what an absolute goof he is that kid is JACKED 😂
Isn't he technically known as the strongest non-powered human in the series?
@@Lunatic89097 He's surely a prodigy, learning Kyo's moves just by watching them and writing them on a notebook, and while certainly strong, I think pound for pound the strongest human (and it's even his canonical nickname) is Ramón.

May: Hello Shingo from Kof 99
TOTSUGEKI!!
I just love the fact that there is a stage in KOF2000 where you are doing mortal combat while families look a Manitees at Sea World. My life is now complete
Kof 99 the Big Fighter Origin of the after credit sequence.
You didnt seem to try to want to actually figure Shingo out. Hes a super solid character. "Uncoordinated version of Dan"?? At times, i feel you are a bit biased if a character isnt "easy" or a "shoto type" character. I loved 99. 2000 introducing new characters was cool also.
The most simple combos in KOF 99 and 2000 starts with HP or HK, and it's followed by forward and LP or LK. I guess every character has a combo with that, and you can mix with some other attacks, like an air attack to start the combo, and some ⬇↘➡ stuff, right after.
20:45 dude, is this genuinely the first use of the word simp???? HOW
Idk if this is just me, but I don't like how this video is edited. I feel like we are missing so much of the '99 and '00 experience 🙁
I remember that in kof 99 some teams have alternative endings depending on who you beat krizalid with or was it because of the number of points? and you can also fight against kyo or iori after beating krizalid
With the Fatal Fury Team, ensure that Mai get the final blow and the same goes for Kensou in the Psycho Soldier Team for alt. endings
If you reach and beat Krizalid with 400 or 480 points, you either fight Iori or Kyo respectively.
Edit: Nevermind the actual required points are 200 for Iori and 280 for Kyo, I forgot.
The classic era of SNK went out in a blaze of glory with 2000.
Man, the variety of assists were crazy fun and the overall soundtrack are one of the better ones (Ice Place is the only weak one and even then it added to the mystique that Kula had back then).
Helps that Clone Zero is also one of the (relatively) easier bosses in the series.
(Edit: I’ve seen the criticisms. Now wouldn’t it be funny if Ripley somehow got raised into playing SNK games instead?)
Max not being too keen on 2000 (one of the best KOFs imo) makes me sad
I preferred 99 more
The intros to this series are so damn awesome!
I like the NESTS saga
Every time Max plays KOF 99, I will remind people that Krizalid says OLD NAVY whenever he does his wind kick 😂
2000 is by far one of the best Kofs
18:55 "And it's gotta be strong, and it's gotta be fast, and it cannot be totally laaame"
I want to say I got 99 in a $15 triple pack with 2 bad games at Walmart. I loved this game so much, and it was the first time I saw a fighting game super, it blew my mind!
Yeah! NESTS Saga is cool
KoF 99' Dream Match was my first in the series, got it for Xmas after I bought a Dreamcast, watched the opening intro a hundred times.
99 was my first KOF game, I still have it on ps1. If you play enough and and get more familiar you can do pretty crazy stuff with the assist.
it hurts so bad max not liking the 99/2000 version. literally what made me pick up the kof series. sigh. well get em next time lol
Chang menacing speedwalks scares me it's like you are going out for prom with your girl, but you need to overcome against her overprotective father. One slip and...:
"I just wanna talk to him"
"I just wanna talk to him"
"I just wanna talk to him"
"I just wanna talk to him"
"I just wanna shoot him"
"I just wanna talk to him"
Do people like the NESTS saga?
Yes, people do. If nothing, it’s rare to see a person of dark skin being the face of a major fighting game franchise, even today.
Nests Saga is the best!
Shingo is voiced by the same guy who did Dio :)
also I forgot all about Zero's wacky dialogue, plus he called the player a "simp"
Does anybody see the shadow of the guy chasing the cat with the stick 4:00 and the restaurant says Chinese kitchen🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
20:41 I'm sorry, but I'm just losing it at "All you had to do was rub us out." and "You simp!" being back to back lines
Fighting game writing is something else!
"Kyo is FUCKING everywhere"
-Maximillian Dood
I played 99 back in high school and never noticed the guy in the background of the stage was chasing a dog around. I noticed he had a stick but thought he was beating a person up
Ah. The King of Fighters Clone Saga. Because it worked so well for Spider-Man.
Was the NESTS games popular? Eh, some of the characters that came out of them were but, like with Spider-Man's, I think everyone was just relieved to be done with it by the end.
Huge fan of the Nest saga. I loved all the characters they introduced and 2000 is my favourite and first KOF. The presentation, style, music and UI is so slick and modern.
I felt they went backwards with the presentation in 2001 and 2002. I don’t mind 2003.
I looked up to K so much growing up, watching the 2000 attract screen and seeing Kula for a split second added to her mystery.
As soon as I was old enough to bleach my hair, I made sure it was platinum blonde so I could look like K!
And I loved all the strikers in 2000, seeing all the SNK cameos reminded me so much of the original Marvel vs Capcom.
20:44 Zero was ahead of his time.
Also I liked the NEST saga because of all the cool characters introduced and crazy science backstory with cloning.
he called you a simp, so its a good arc
The off thing you mention is simply the fact that many moves' timings were changed so the game could feel different, most of them were made a bit slower, others faster to conform a 'new' feel with the arrival of a new hero team, that and coupled with the fact that you knew very few special moves let alone how to execute them (and you didn't know how to use any strikers), made you feel weird but these are, at least from the viewpoint of (and the AST soundtrack is arguably the best of the KOF series) gameplay and mechanics, some of the most enjoyable (doesn't mean most competitive) KOF games.
Me and a lot of people in my city spent countless hours battling in KOF 2000 to see who was the best and we had such quality times, yeah, dealing with infinites a lot but still having a lot of fun trying to extract the oil of these games and believe me there's a LOT of crude oil to extract in them. I am glad to have had the priviledge, to an extent, of living out intensely the year of the last KOF for many and the au revoir of the legendary SNK KOF staff. I have to admit that KOF 2000 has a pretty well elaborated atmosphere although not so much story, it's a game that feels very special to play versus other people, it has a special mystic, like 2002 and 98.
I noticed that you were enjoying how lost the game made you feel hahahaha.
Alternate Video Title:Max talking about how great KOF'94 is fo 30 minutes
More of max not getting the new systems , losing and calling the game weird because of it
I feel Shingo is a character Max would like if he took the time to learn him.
also read the Shingo manga
Whip: (flies away) EEEEAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGH
20:40
Yea, we love the Nests saga
The Dark Hero saga
Best saga
I was never a fan of King of Fighters, but I remember buying Dream Match '99 for the Dreamcast just for how much hype that opening was.
Specially because that version had extra stuff.
That version was a 98' deluxe edition, why it was called 99? i don't know lmao, the actual 99' for the Dreamcast was just called KOF Evolution, it had extra strikers, some coming from KOF 2000
@@ppprime98K It's KOF98 but it was called KOF99 because instead of year 1998 release, the Dreamcast version got released too late on 1999. That's why.
@@ppprime98K yeah, I never understood why they put '99 in the title, it should've been called just "Dream Match".
@@Urakarenn That's funny haha, its if like the 2002UM re-release were called "KOF 2021" or something like that
I had the gba version of this. One of my first fighting games after Tekken advance. I loved this game
If there's something good about KOF 99 is the music just that "dear falling angel" and 00's credits theme, man. Really good tunes
25:10 *Sigh...* No, Max. What actually happened in that scene was Whip telling them what Zero had revealed to her: She is K's older sister (a clone of her, at least), and that his memories weren't lying to him. So, they finally reunite and team up for the next game.
I don't blame you for the weird interpretation though, as the scene does play kinda hokey...
1:42 Deliver us from evil 😵💫
99 was my first KOF and the one I played the most with my brother. It’s not the best, but I have fond memories of 99. 98, 99, and 2002 UM are my favorites.
This games are awesome, sadly Max don’t know how to play them :-(
Yeap
The introduction of K'!
That KOF 2000 character select....
i love every aspect of 99, 00 and the whole Nests saga, but i do like that Max was honest on his opinions.
Max only plays as a few characters in the entirety of the fighting game genre. Everyone else feels weird to him.
Kof 99 was my first kof game and I LOVED it...the issue with Max is that he is playing it like a Capcom game, funny enough I played SF games first and realized that Kof was a whole new feel so yeah it will feel weird but once you get used to it it's awesome
Also: THE BEST KING IN THE WHOLE SERIES IS IN 99... AND THE BEST KASUMI IS IN 00... AND THE BEST LEONA... AND HINAKO, THE BEST SUMO GIRL... AND JOE, THE BEST STRIKER...
Damn, KOF 2K has a lot of THE BEST OF in the series...
20:43 Sad that Max didn't read that part out loud.
Yes! this was such a fun one.
Glad he played my favorite KoF and first one in my childhood.
