I love how Igniz's attacks either have like 60 frames of animation... or one
That's what makes him loveable.
@@MarginalSC LOVABLE EEEEGNITZ! Heuheuheuheu! (I headcanon that he has a goofy haughty high-pitched voice lmao)
And they're all active
The One usually being an Unblockable Combo Starter
Igniz's normal kick freaks me out, man. XD
Just in case you are wondering, those characters are not tournament legal and disabled by default on multiplayer games (Max manually allowed them to be used because he wanted to play Geese, unaware that the others are beyond broken)... Probably for the best tho, stabbings are notoriously common in arcades with KOF.
Yep. Banned from tournaments
Oh, good gosh, thank you for clarifying this. Fun as watching this video is, I was wondering how in the world these characters were allowed to do this mess in the final version of the game. 😄
@@KamonShirow in the original PS2 version they were fun unlockables for doing challenges, they were never balanced to be used in competitive matches.
@@Fusso Just like inferno from soul calibur 6
Awesomeness.
What I fear the most. Max has defeated so many CHEAP SNK FINAL BOSSES, he’s now BECOME A FINAL BOSS…….
Does that mean he has to do a Boss Rage on himself?
Wait until he fights Magaki lol
Igniz animations truly are pure eye candy, he definitely wasn't designed at all for normal matches.
That’s why he’s so lovable.
Max's face when he discovers Nightmare Geese and his double double shippuken...
Wouldn't it be quadruple rappuken?
That's some Rainbow Edition shit
Happy 20th anniversary for KOF 02. Alongside with Guilty Gear X2, Melty Blood and Jet set radio future in 2002.
All great games!!
I'm feel super old now....Holy molly 20 years damn..
It's been 20 YEARS and we still don't know the concept of love
Dang, I was born in 2002. The same year as peak classic KOF and the dawn of a new Guilty Gear era.
Technically speaking this game came out in 2009. Vanilla 2k2 was very different game.
Watching Max discover all the broken bullshit each boss was capable of was the best.
Not each Unfortunately. Кrizalid Dont used all his specials and Max doent play him.
@@PAINNN666 I was mainly talking about the characters he played.
Now THIS one, this one right here is absolutely one of my favorite KOF's ever. Gigantic roster, great music, great artwork, and really fun gameplay. 2002 UM is an outstanding game. It's everything i love about KOF.
Hello Orlanzo :)
OG KOF 2002 and 2002UM are two completely different games.
As much as I prefer the roster of UM, I really missed the OST of OG 2002, the Stages and K9999
*Tears '02* , *Kurikinton '02* , *Beauty and the Beast '02* , *Seoul Ni Ikou! '02* , *Diet '02* and *Violent Fire, Lightning, Earth* are my favorite remixes.
The original tracks like *Deserted Town* , *Tacos Dance* *The Netherlands* , *Progress* , *Napolitan Trance* and *Last Dance* are amazing!
Such a shame SNK Playmore didn't make an arranged soundtrack of the music of OG 2002 BUT thankfully the fans have made awesome remix covers.
I recommend listen to *The King of Fighters NeoStation* and *Daniel D Harvey* remix covers.
The Stages in OG 2002 were great!
Mexico, Italy, China, Korea and Rugal's being my favorites!
I liked how most of stages change between rounds having a day, afternoon and night phase.
Also the music changes between rounds in the VS mode depending of which character appears.
the one thing I missed in UM was the stages changing in every round
@@meganinten0078 Yea vanilla '02 and '02 UM are very different for sure, UM added and changed a bunch of stuff. They are far more different than '98 and '98 UM are from each other. '98 UM was basically '98 with more characters and stages while '02 UM is basically a different game completely from vanilla '02.
As far as vanilla '02.....ehhh i'd be lying if i said i really liked the music or stages, i didn't lol. But i did like REALLY like "Deserted Town". That was my favorite track in the game, so ominous and tension filled.
@@Chalepastel Yea that was a pretty cool feature in vanilla '02 for sure.
I hope Max could make a video about rate the OST from this game. Gosh, this game has so many bangerz OSTs and they are mostly in my top 10 catchiest KOF OSTs...
Honestly, Genocide Cutter is one of the sickest moves across all fighting games, fucking love the dang thing.
In this episode of the KOF legacy, Max fully embraces the dark side and deletes Athena from existence.
*In this Behemoth Typhoon..
One of the things I like about this game is the sheer number of cameos from other SNK fighters. That school festival stage Chizuru, Saisyu, and a character from Art Of Fighting 3. That Korea stage has Kim's two kids as they appear in Garou and what I'm 90% sure is a Last Blade character. That Thailand temple stage has both the Capo characters from Fatal Fury and two of the Metal Slug characters. The restaurant has Tung Fue Rue, Hon Fu, some dude who was in the first or second Art of Fighting, and both of the Jin brothers. The beach stage has Alfred from Fatal Fury: Dominated Mind, Jubei, Duck King, one of the guys from the Sports Team in KOF, a character from Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition, and I'm pretty sure the main character from Buriki One. There's probably another 15 I just don't feel like naming because this comment's already too long.
I love that in the Korea stage not only are Jae Hoon and Dong Hwan in the background, but they're sitting with the girl from Jae Hoon's victory pose and her kettle is on the ground next to them.
I know Alfred as a striker in 99
The stage with Kim's kids also has Kim Sue Il from Kizuna Encounter!
Even Metal Slug characters, i think is in Cambodia ?
Roddy and Cathy from Top Hunter are also in the restaurant. At the amusement park there's Hayate from Savage Reign, Cheng Shinzan as a balloon, Jin from Art of Fighting 3, and Kyo's prototype design/MI2 alternate costume.
Brutal God Project is such a ridiculous super. I fucking love it.
Best super in whole genre
There’s nothing quite like overkill.
There's a reason Igniz refers to himself as lovable, it's because he knows it's true, no matter how broken and difficult he is, once you get to play him, you understand just how great fun he is.
And he voiced by lovable Norio Wakamoto.
@@PAINNN666 Which is funny, because Igniz does feel like KOF's Perfect Cell.
@@PAINNN666 BUUUURRAAAAAA!!!!
Why Ignis(a human) is more Powerful than Orochi(a God)? Orochi should've the same damage and moves of Ignis!
I get the feeling Max had fun with this one.
How could you NOT have fun with someone as LOVABLE as IGNITZ?? (Effeminate haughty Igniz laugh)
You see the intro and then the character selection screen of this game and you immediately go "oh this is really good". On top of that is actually good and now great online
Max choosing a team: OOPS All Bosses
Damn, Ryo just parried the Igniz special and taunted hahaha
SNK has so many characters that they can't all fit into a KOF game. But some of them manage to sneak in by buying tickets and watching.
Japan: Saisyu on the left, Chizuru on the right, the red-haired schoolgirl past Chizuru might be Miss X.
Korea: the kid in the black suit with red hair and the blue-haired kid sitting in front of him are Kim's kids, Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon. Kim Sue Il to the right.
Cambodia(?): Richard Meyer and Bob Wilson on the left, two Metal Sluggers on the right.
China: Tung Fu Rue left of centre in front of the Jin brothers' table, Hon Fu at the centre table, Big Bear eating on the right, two characters I don't recognize at the table with the red dragon on the right.
Mediterranean: Alfred front and centre, Jubei Yamada perving to the left until Toji Sakata comes in later, Duck King and Heavy D! on the far right.
Neogeo World: Franco Bash up front, Sho Hayate on the rail, Jin Fuha spinning in the centre, Cheng Sinzan being fat and floating in the air.
Kyokugenryu Dojo: Lee Pai Long standing in the centre, Ryuhaku Todoh at the next pillar to the right, Gato behind the row of sitting students, Khushnood Butt at the end of the row, Hotaru Futaba shows up next to the dragon painting on the right.
*Sees Max's team*
"Yup, everyone's gonna die today."
Someone should really tell Max to try the original 2002 on the Neogeo just to see how very different of a game it was. 2K2UM was released in 2009 well after both 2003 and XI were already released. That's why it's a massive improvement over the original.
no, let him be happy only knowing this version.
My favorite KOF of all time, from gameplay to roster to aesthetics to the music everything's a perfect package.
Such a shame they removed the entire OST of OG 2002 and the Stages.
I wonder why they didn't make an arranged soundtrack.
The OST of OG KOF 2002 is overhated
@@meganinten0078 The stages in vanilla 02, nostalgia aside looked way too grim and bland. It also had the worst ost in the entire series.
UM fixed all of those problems and delivered more.
@@saiko_oro I disagree with that.
Mexico, Korea, China and Itally were amazing.
What I really liked about the stages in vanilla 2002 is how most of them change between rounds having a day, afternoon and night cycle.
Also, it was cool how in VS mode the music change between rounds depending of the character who appear.
And I really like the OST of vanilla 2002
It has my favorite remixes of Tears, Kurikinton, Beauty and the Beast, Seoul ni Ikou! and Diet.
The original tracks are awesome, Last Dance is my favorite of Rugal's themes.
Deserted Town, Tacos Dance, The Netherlands 🎵
Love those tracks.
@@meganinten0078 Why did the soundtrack get taken out?
@@Renegade77784 It is one of the biggest mysteries.
I have heard many theories, fans didn't like the music of OG 2002 or SNK Playmore didn't have the rights of the music.
I personally think the OST of OG 2002 is overhated.
Igniz is honestly really cool, I'd love to see him balanced a bit and playable in 15.
Him being nerfed could easily be explained as him being weakened after dying
The boss character that was floating in the KOF 15 animation looks dope if anyone hasn't seen it yet. I hope some of these other retro KOF bosses make the roster too.
I thought I was watching Max. Turns out he was really Woolie in disguise.
I actually like Igniz's design and moveset the most from out of all other SNK bosses so far.
You not only one. If you watch anime he also voced by one of the greatest seiyu Norio Wakamoto.
The most LOVABLE of SNK bosses!
Maximilian following the Woolie Madden fighting game philosophy of: GO FOR THE BOSS CHARACTERS
“COWARDS BEGONE!”- Geese Howard
Happy 20th Anniversary, KOF ‘02!!🥳👊🏾👊🏾
And with that, it is now truly time to say goodbye... To lovable Igniz.
KOF, the fighter where you can see aggression/anger in the special moves.
While I still prefer _KoF '98,_ I can't deny this was largely my second-most played _KoF_ …well, probably tied with _'03_ just 'cause Ash Crimson was a blast.
Seeing Chris go "Orochi" and then _become_ Orochi was silly fun. ♥
How I wish the "Ash Saga" had it's own UM game.
I don't know why I didn't realize it until now, but this legacy means we're getting to revisit Maximum Impact and I'm so hyped for that
@Juan Camaney That's a huge bummer, but we really know Max just doesn't wanna revisit Rock's iconic "I don't like beating up chicks cause they always cry" line
@@MessatsuGoshoryu02 That line i funny because that was a mistranslation and also because Rock doesn't know how to talk with woman XD
It is a shame Max is not going to play the Maximum Impact games.
Especially Regulation A, the best version in terms of mechanics.
I wish some Maximum Impact characters appear in KOF XV as DLC
When Max said "This guy is fucking crazy" and he was talking about Geese.... There is a reason why he has his own, awesome theme music. He is the SNK boss
One of the best KOF games ever made for sure, the Marvel vs Capcom of KOF is a good way to put it yeah 😂
Wouldn't that technically be Capcom vs SNK since so many KOF characters are in the game? 😅
I like to think of this more like the Alpha 3 of KoF games.
MvC is XI.
Name which one better?
This might have my favorite OST of the series, especially with Team Kyo and Art of Fighting's themes.
Seeing these boss characters doing this insane shit makes me want a tourney legal Team Boss: Rugal, Igniz, and Saiki.
South East Asian players sometimes do high level boss matches online. They're insane haha
@@Kain_R_Heinlein
Damn, are there recordings on yt?
"That's fucked up"
There has never been a more apt or succinct description of this game, and it's not even remotely a bad thing.
If Max is this salty with Igniz, I can't wait to see his reaction when he meet again with Magaki in KoF XI
Magaki: I will remind them.
I honestly have no idea if this game has balancing issues or not...All I know is that it's a damn fun game. Not sure where I'd place it in my personal top 10 of 'King of Fighters' titles, but it's up there....Way up there.
K', Kasumi and Nameless are broken in this game
The characters he used are banned on competitive play and disable default in multiplayer.
Fun fact vanilla KOF 2k2 was more broken LMAO
@@Tucanazo69 Same with KOF 97
It was very broken.
KOF 2002UM is not as balanced as people think.
@@meganinten0078 Still one of the most balanced KOFs before XIV and the constant patches.
Would've been nice to see fight aganist Omega Rugal.
Special Fight:
Omega Rugal - Finish any of the NEST bosses on your first try, using no continues and finishing with a SDM, MAX SDM, or a MAX 2.
I feel like if he were to make a Boss Rage from this series (like SF and Akuma Legacy), it would be this (or Magaki)! I consider 2002 UM Rugal the hardest mainline KoF boss and SNK is notorious for EXTRA ridiculous bosses.
@@adamnakamura8003 u only get one shot to beat him tho, he would have to redo everything again XD
Nah, I personally think he should go after goenitz in kof 96, it's in a way his nemesis (see svc chaos boss rage)
Rugal sometimes goes out without those conditions. It has even appeared to me winning by time. I think it has more to do with the number of straights or with the way to beat the opponents, that is, beat several characters in the same way, but I'm not sure.
@@Darkgunbladeknight The number of total points too, I encountered him when making 230k battle points.
5:08 AWESOME COMBO!
Pretty sure Max has broken over x amount of UM rules when he used those KOF bosses.
But he's having fun, so we'll allow it.
"Thats what ya get for entering KOF this year kid" 😂😂☠☠
Robert took it personally that you didn't invite him to hang out with geese and rugal this time, so he kicked that anger right into you for a good bit
Igniz is the only infinite I know how to do, but that's just cause it's stupid easy.
Dude the OST is masterclass wtf, I'm gonna play this sooner
Now I want to see Max against Mukai, the most underrated boss of KOF.
He already streamed 2003 if your interested.
F****n Magaki the only Bullet Hell KOF boss. I really hope he gets the K9999 treatment and never gets brought back again.
@@djpegao so he will come back in 20 years with a new name and design
@@prof.laytonfan764 wait he did already! Was when he did his live stream for the Nintendo direct today or was it yesterday. I watch some of it but it was him playing Sifu or something like that.
We'll see if he gets there
Igniz = Tekken juggle gameplay activated !
Damn, who edits the intros to this series? These are really slick.
The Bruno Zone made the intros
My favourite game from the King of Fighters franchise, in virtually almost every aspect from the gameplaywise having some of my favourite variations of some characters like Orochi Yashiro. To the varied roster, with inclusion of Nameless and his pretty good story.
Too bad they nerfed Vanessa in 2002UM she is not very fun unlike her version in OG2002
Also, not a fan of Nameless.
I dislike his design and how he was just made to replace K9999
I prefer K9999 even if he wasn't broken like Nameless.
@@meganinten0078 That's fair, they really nerfed Vanessa and Kim but I still enjoyed some additional elements they introduced to characters like K'.
Plus for me whilst I liked K9999 I preferred Nameless' design and story more.
@@kingdomcomesuperman3669 Fair enough.
I am glad K9999 returned with a cool redesign and new name but still has the same personality 👍
Sorry Nameless fans.
The music in this game is amazing.
Bro, I love watching Max play through the KOF games
Good god, the sound kensuo makes when cut by lovable ignisis wire is amazing
You had me laughing my a55 off with this video. My friends and I used to play the hell out of this game. Great video.
Aaaaw men I wanted a Boss Rage against Omega Rugal on this game but looks like Max don't had plans for it
Holy shit Igniz is SOO BROKEN.
After dealing with so much bullshit from the bosses in this legacy, i think this was cathartic for Max
Imo:
98 (um) = Super SF Turbo (the classic)
2002 (um) = Alpha 3 (the classic super evolved)
XIII = Third Strike (brillant and beautiful but somewhat weird within the series)
Igniz is the coolest character
This feels super cathartic after Max spent so much time fighting these busted bosses
Keep them coming max
The best game in this series, and probably the best SNK fighter out there, came out the same year I was born. Nice! Kind of nervous when Max moves on to 2K3...
23:47 Best Round Max's Igniz vs Ryo
24:25 And the Ryo Parry, Max did a Justin Wong face here😛😛 Ora Ora!
2002 UM is downright leagues above vanilla 2002. Like it's not even close to being the same game.
Kof 98 the 3rd Strike of Kof? Au contraire Max, at the time people loved 98, and still does. Back then some bashed 3rd Strike, the love came later.
EDIT: Maybe 2001 could be considered the 3rd Strike of KOFs.
That Igniz mess is how I got most of the trophies in this game on ps4 lol. like the endless/survival battle one and beating Omega Rugal lol.
Coool now you playing KOF 2002 You helping me a lot on KOF games
Jin fu in the background at the carnival is awesome
Watching you play and rejoice with the broken stuff you could do with Igniz was fun, but you _definitely slept_ on the oh so *BROKEN* chainings that both Omega Rugal and Nightmare Geese have.
2002 is fondly remembered because it pioneered the use of the "dream cancel" and "super dream cancel" for combos. Someone using those and knowing how to cancel movements upon movements won't even let you touch the ground, much like Igniz, which as broke ass he is, _also had a couple of cancellable moves_
That and you never used the hidden super deadly moves of each of them when you had the chance at low health. I wanted to see Geese's half bar reppuken again, hah!
But i'm glad you had fun Max! ...don't play these three on any arcade though, they banned; and with reason when you see the broken combo videos.
@maximillian dood igniz's cape attack that bounces them off walls also reflects projectiles if you didnt know.
Best KoF so far IMO. Here's hoping XV will have what it takes to dethrone this masterpiece!
I wouldn’t count on it.
Kof XV dethroning 2002UM 😂
F*** no!
No KOF game will beat 2002 UM
@@skeetermagee2487 Kinda curious why you don't want a better game. 2002's always going to be there to go back to, so why are you rooting against having an even better game to add to the rotation?
@@HanMasho Because the KOF these days ain't good it used to be! XV looks really Terrible with roster
Only Team South Town and G.A.W looks formidable
@@skeetermagee2487 So it's the roster that's the problem? I'm sure they'll add a bunch of characters in the future. It's not like the full UM roster was there in vanilla 2002.
Hello Max, Here’s an interesting Boos Rage you Try, in the Highest difficulty: Try Beat “Omega Rugal” from 02 UM, yes he is like kind of hidden Boss like said if you Beat the game certain requirements and just so you Know he’s classified as the hardest boss in KOF history. That would make an interesting video, also un saludo desde Honduras Dude !!!!!!!!!
Yamazaki was always my favorite, such a unique character with unique moves and unique super and unique names like bombshell bada bing!!
All NEOGEO AES games came with booklets (MVS games with banners), which had the move lists inside. Also various lists can be found on the internet. Makes playing a lot more enjoyable.
I'm impressed with the great number of background cameos in this game.
That A.I Ryo did some fucking amazing parries.
'98 Ultimate Match is NICE, 2002 Unlimited Match is cool too.
Krizalid's remixed theme is TIGHT! LOVE the MAX 2 Supers!
Shingo's MAX 2 super is priceless!!
MAX and MAX2 are actually usable here, unlike og2k2. The simple ability to do them anytime at a cost of an additional bar changes everything.
One cool trick with rugal is that if u throw a kaiser wave right after a basic repuken it counts as a combo as both hit back to back because of how fast kaiser wave is
Man, the music in this game is so awesome. I hope some tracks will be in KoFXV.
angel's QT angel and kula's diamond dust theme is already in it so there will be a bunch of these masterpieces i think....
24:45
The Cutting Edge theme might be the sickest track in KOF.
Oh hey the version of 2002 that I played and had fun with! Great to see this one come back on the dance floor meaning now we are done with the NESTS saga!
it's done in 2001
@@PAINNN666 I know chronologically it's done in 2001 but 2002 is still part of the NESTS stuff as while it is a dream match, for a while this was the last time we will see most of the NESTS characters, except the popular ones and Angel who at least came back in 14 while new K 9999 not even until he came back for 15.
the street fighter comparisons would be more like
98 - Alpha 3
2002 - Third Strike
XI - MvC2
LoL
KoF '98 UM is the SSFII Turbo
KoF 2002 UM is the SF Zero 3 Upper (or that PSP version)
KoF XIII is the SFIII Third Strike (Garou MotW is the Third Strike for the Garou series)
KoF XIV is the USFIV
KoF XV is the SFV Champion Edition
Max going maniacal with boss power is the most entertaining thing ever XD
I love how in 98 Max still plays Rugal like a normal character, but here he has embraced the cheap boss.
The music in this game is EVERYTHING!
This version of the game is obsessed of the best 2D FG period.
Fun, smooth, hella characters and cameos from other SNK games.
I LOVE 2002 UM. My boy Kusanagi 😁
This is the best KOF.
This is THE KoF
Never would’ve thought that Igniz is the most broken and op characters to be played in KOF history. It’s so awesome to play these bosses in these latest KOF games.
Just to clarify, this version people are playing nowadays of 02um and 98um on steam/ps4 are ports of the xbox 360 version and dont have the 3d effects of the Ps2. The 2d content might have received some higher resolution, but if you check the game on the Ps2 version on emulator you will see how pretty these games really are. The Ps2 on a tube tv was the peak of quality.
To give an example, 19:52 in this few seconds the camera would slowly descend to the battle arena with a paralax effect.
My point is, its just sad that when the game got rollback and competitive online, people have to play with retro graphics.
And is kinda sad to see new players thinking this is the 'real' visual of the game.
98um got a bit too far and even removed some scenarios from the ps2 version.
Whats more weird in my opinion, NeoGeo Batttle Coliseum (that no one cares) got a HD port to xbox360 with all the 3D effects and most likely will stay there alone forever.
Man, I'm hoping Geese's fighting style is as awesome and dynamic in XV as it is here. Damn! He's got some sick MvC2-like moves!
One of my favorite KOFs for sure.
If only he made it to Omega Rugal
Yeah! Sadly no one told him to finish the boss with a super...
@@malcovich_games Actually you need to make it without losing three or more rounds to find him.
@@accelriderx2931 overall? I see. I thought that requirement was only for the mid boss.
i hated when people at the arcade did the infinite cancel combos with iori, half back circle punch, half back circle kick x 10 into uppercut cancel into max special 90% damage
lmao child's play
@@Ticketman99 i agree those are very easy combos to do, which is fun against the computer but not fair against friends or actual people
Dear falling angel is the "Krizalid's theme" and it's one of the Best songs ever Made for a fighting videogame.
Kof 2002 um and kof 13 are the best kof games, they are both the best of whatever your looking for from kof imo
15:53 that's actually the screaming sound of Rugal.
OOOOOOOoohh! This is some fun video
