Drawing every day is key to becoming a decent artist. The greatest artists spent their time 'copying' the masters. I can see a light box being useful to practice all sorts of tricky things like hands and foreshortening.

❤❤❤all your comments Manny and agree 100% with what you say here. I drew a beautiful rose sometime back in the 1980s before I ever got into digital art. I just recently found it after cleaning out some drawer. I don’t remember actually doing it, but man is it going to save me some time tracing it with my light pad. I could never free hand this baby ever again. I’m much older and have lost some ability I had in the past due to arthritis. For this reason alone, I am so grateful for my light pad and for your advice in the video. Blessings to you!💗

😊😊😊Just ordered one. I have done exactly what you described...tried to redraw a piece and it never is the way I first drew it. Its also a way to preserve drawings that you want to keep. Illustrations, cartoons, comic characters. It will help your creativity level. And remove a lot of frustration.

I'm actually considering using this to make videos teaching math. It seems like an interesting alternative to having 2 or 3 light boxes to prevent 'shadows'. I was looking for light boxes on Amazon and saw the one for drawing so came to YT to see what people are using them for and what the general opinion is; I know it's not the intended use but it might be worth trying. Thanks for your insights.

hello I'm from Indonesia, thank you for this video, I focused on listening to you talk & reading the subtitles, the information you convey is very useful, that the trace pad or light box is very useful for reducing drawing time, especially if the image is wrong or paint spills over, to re-scratching takes a long time, so this is really cool

I'm actually down to use a lightbox with grid paper for evenness. Don't want to stay dependent on that, but I'm not waiting to develop better skills when I can draw beautiful pieces the way I want NOW. Finding work arounds for skills one lacks IS A SKILL.

I start a drawing doing multiple thumbnails to get the composition down. Then i draw the individual elements and assemble them into the final picture with a light box. This allows me to further refine the composition.

you brought up the question is it cheating. well I think it depends on why a person is using a lightbox. I'm a 82 year old widow and all my children are grown, with their own families. I decided to take up drawing/painting a few months back. Most likely I don't have another 20 years to learn everything I would like to learn, but a lightbox and people like you can help me to cut off a few years in the learning process. I have never spoke about my age and trying something new but I believe that no matter the age it don't hurt to try. I went to college and graduated at 50.

if i use a lightbox to simply trace out the lines ONLY, but add the details manually, meaning shade, blend, etc which might take me anywhere from 3 - 9 days depending on the level of detail, does this make me an artist? ( serious question)

For me I draw the shapes and body on one piece of paper, use a light box to clean that up pn another sheet, then I use another sheet to ink the art piece, having the originals is a good way to fix any mistakes you made and that way you dont have to get all stressed about mistakes. Is it a hassle? Yes but less of one then having to do it all over again would be

I like this better than photo shop and its not cheating. People say its cheating because those People are jealous that they can,t affort one. And like you said a light box or light pad is cheating than what is photo shop?

  • @maggiealena
    @maggiealena 6 месяцев назад +1

I copied 1000s of pictures before i could understand drawing. Tracing is not cheating unless it is being used to pass off a drawing as your own which is plagiarism. We all must start somewhere. It builds finger strength and dexterity.

Light boxes are awesome. I don't have one but my daughter does but she never uses it. Money blown 🌬️ 🍃
But! Every time I see it I think of that "I'm gonna be Tracer" meme

My take... NO! Of course not! People will learn from the muscle memory. They can use a light box to learn anatomy. Learn what shapes are incorporated in a human body, or other figure. You can learn so much just from tracing, I'm sure of it. I'll prove it once I get this light box LOL!

    Someone: Tracing is che-
Me: DOES IT GET THE JOB DONE WITHOUT PLAGIARISM? Yes? BET. Also, cheating isn't always a bad thing. 😈

  • @Mr.wither_storm

It’s only cheating when you trace another artists creation and claim it as your own
