I’ve had B.A in Environmental science and haven’t found work in my field. Everyone either wants a masters degree or 2 plus years experience in the field doing phase 1 and 2 assessments that they don’t teach you in school. Best advice choose a special area want to work in and get degree in that such as biology, geology, environmental or civil engineering and make sure you network in college with company’s and don’t trust your advisors BS unless they have worked specifically in that field prior to taking a university job.
Hello Bakes..I am an Indian Forest graqduate intrested in wildlife biology. Can you help me by suggesting me good colleges offering masters in wildlife and careers in canada
Her womanhood isn't that relevant....? Her being smart and strong would make you think the job is hard unless you think you have those qualities. You were really just sneaking in that she was a woman and adding some positive adjectives. You're really defining YOURSELF as a "woman" by caring so much about the label.
I'm an environmental consultant that works in telecommunications in the NEPA process, which includes identifying natural/cultural resources and consulting with tribes and the public. I love it!!
@Iffat Leema I have not pursued a masters or further degrees. I have taken additional training courses for NEPA and ESA (Endangered Species Act) through my company.
@Monique Sorry I didn't see your comment til now. I deal with our clients and determine their needs based on project scopes. Also, I am the project manager from start to finish: determining consulting parties based on the site location, placing public notice ads, preliminary research for cultural and natural resources, and kicking off the process with the FCC (for telecommunications projects). There's a lot of milestone management to keep the project on schedule.
thank you so much for this video! As someone who was super curious and passionate about anything related to the environment, this was super helpful to know what kind of jobs are out there for me, thank you!
I’ve been so interested in environmental science and am about to go to college for it. This video helped me SO much in narrowing down what I want to do with my future. Much love 💕
7:02 Im majoring in sustainabilities studies so being a sustainability specialist really interest me so thank you for making this video and giving me more information!
Blackpink Lisa there’s not much of a big difference, environmental science is a bit more broad of a subject field and includes more non technical info. I would lean towards environmental biology because I think there’s a better reputation for that degree major name. But honestly not a huge difference
I appreciate the knowledge; I learned a little bit from you. I have a master's degree in microbiology. I'd want to pursue a PhD in these areas, which have great earning potential and need a lot of fieldwork. Please recommend. 1. the natural world 2. Microbiology in scientific terms 3. The ecology of watery environments 4. environmental data science 5. The formation of landscapes and geopadalogy 6. NRM and raw materials 7. Environmental legislation; 8. Environmental ecology.
I'm in environmental studies and I been having difficulty really finding any information on job outlook and information on what jobs are in demand. I have always been more interested in the sociological aspect of environmentalism so that's why I went for environmental studies but I do worry about the job market and I want to be prepared to know what my options are and what jobs are focused in that area. Could you do a video just about non-science environmental positions?
Definitely a video about that is on the list! In the meantime, the best way to see what kind of jobs are available in that field is to look at job postings now. Pretend you are a new grad and start browsing job forums and see what's out there. I think not enough college/hs students do this and it can be the best way to gauge job outlook. Just give it a few months because some jobs don't get posted daily but will get posted after a few weeks.
I'm on a similar journey as I'm about to be done with my associates before heading to get my Bachelors in Enviro Studies. Would be super helpful to have a video on that ! Cheers
Either plan on going to law school, getting a masters in Cultural anthropology with a emphasis on environmental studies or change to a B.A in Biology, Geology or agriculture. Good luck
Currently pursuing a degree in Sustainable health and environmental studies this was very helpful I was wondering what jobs I could go into after graduation thanks for giving me an in-depth analysis 💓
I’m 17, turning 18 soon and plan to go to a 2 year school to study. Some kind of agriculture, botany, or wildlife study’s of some kind(I just really want a career that with have me working in nature and talking about nature, the environment and studying it) I hope it works out for me (not really interested in a 4 year)
I’m enrolled in a Natural resources environmental technology program starting this September at a college here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I’m having second thoughts about it. I know I like environmental studies, biology, and wildlife, but I want a job where I get to pick and choose when I’m out in the field, and something that won’t take me too far from Halifax. I’m getting this feeling with the program I’m enrolled in that I’ll be a glorified labourer in the forest and nothing more.
Thank you for making this video for everyone to view. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video so it is easy to follow. The “ding” on key points definitely helped hold my interest. I hope to see you in the field sometime in the future.
Go for environmental science, I studied Environmental Engineering, and I we could be all of the above, but I love being an Environmental Specialist Historic Preservation.
I'm a recent graduate and most of these jobs require a lot of experience, all I can find are entry level jobs in waste management. I don't know where to start or what to even look for.
Hey I’m graduating next year and I’m having the same issue and getting a taste of that just applying to internships.. it’s been 3 years , are you in a better situation now? I’m okay with building my way up
THANKS A LOT. I've been searching for these informations in my own language (Arabic) almost everywhere, But it wasn't at all presented this clear and simple.
I am working as an Environment Engineer. Completed my Masters in Environment Management and working in this department. Also I have a passion to teach students about Environment and Current Technology to resolve the problem related to Air,water and Soil.
Environmental science is the academic field that takes physical, biological and chemical sciences to study the environment and discover solutions to environmental problems. Sciences used in environmental science include geography, zoology, physics, ecology, oceanology, and geology. Environmental science also branches out into environmental studies and environmental engineering. It provides an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the study of environmental problems.
It's a daunting task but it's great for every high school student to do as much research as possible into their potential careers. They need to look into what they want to do, how difficult it is to get a job in their field, where they want to live, how much they want to earn, and what the stability and upward earning potential of the job is. It's true that you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do but earning more helps pay off the student loan, car, living, and entertainment debts easier.
So happy I found your channel! my partner has been struggling with what major/career to pursue and your series of vids and information has helped immensely! Thanks a bunch!
One thing that has always drove me crazy is zoo jobs ask you to have, say two years, of experience for an entry level job 😤. Thankfully I already do volunteer work/student animal technician at my university. But it’s still very dumb imo to ask for years of experience for entry level positions that don’t even pay that well starting out.
It’s not just zoos, most wildlife jobs do that! I didn’t get an “entry level” wildlife job until I had 2-3 years of experience 🙄 that’s why I’m always encouraging people to do internships and volunteer work in university, so you can rack up some of that experience while in school and actually have a shot at those entry level jobs on graduation.
Vegan Below Zero yeah that’s true ! I graduate Fall 2020 and I’ll have 3 years of experience. It’s such a competitive field, it can be a bit discouraging.
I'm going to be a High School senior in September, and I'm planning on majoring in Environmental Studies! I already have experience in being an environmental activist, and doing something similar to that would make me happy. Love this video!
Hi, I'm a first year college student in Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Philippines and because of the pandemic I'm actually taking an online learning education which is so hard at this moment because you really have to work on your own lol 😜 hope you notice me it will be so great and encouraging! 😊
It is really good and important video to me as I am an undergraduate student in environmental science. Please do more videos for each careers descriptively and opportunities we have. Thank you so much ❤️
Great video, I am biologist, you inspired me to do the Latin American version of this video for my own channel in Spanish. I wish you to have a lot of success
Your channel has been so so so helpful for me. I’m a junior in high school and doing a college course for a nursing aa degree but I was never into it, however I didn’t know if there was anything else I wanted to do. By watching your videos I think I’m going to pursue environmental science instead! Thank you!

I really want to help the enviroment and I think Enviromental Scientist is perfect for me, still need some time to think but thank you so much for this!
I’m trying to figure out what I want to study. I know I want something to do with animals and helping them. I mostly want to study them, rescue them and work with a wildlife sanctuary. Do you know a specific study/class to will get me to that? I live in America but I definitely think I want to study outside of it so that I can get more experience, there isn’t much animal diversity here (at least where I live) and I want to maybe specialize in elephants, tigers, bears, lions etc. really anything but those are some of the main
@@normalaverage3328I definitely thought about that but I’d rather deal with exotic animals from different countries and mainly rescue and rehabilitate them. Being a vet is cool and all but it’s not exactly what I’m looking for especially in the states when you don’t get to see or help exotic animals (exotic being animals not native to the stays or not seen on a daily basis ex. I don’t want to work on cats and dogs or hamsters and snakes)
Surprised at how many of these jobs don’t actually have the objective of preserving and protecting the environment / wilderness against corporate interests and is instead often working with corporations who have a history of environmental destruction. Wondering why this dilemma wasn’t discussed / why the issue doesn’t come up more.
im in highschool and very interested in becoming a wildlife biologist! not many schools in the country i live in offer ecology, the ones that do offer are very far away :(( so would choosing an environmental science course for college still let me become a wildlife biologist?? thank you for these videos they're really encouraging and informational !
Thanks for this! As someone who is currently going after their Environmental Science degree but not exactly sure which route to take with it this was pretty helpful. Is it common for people to wear many different hats in their career at certain times? Say, few years as a research tech, few years as a animal caretaker, few years as a project manager, etc..etc? Or would it behoove me to focus all of my energy into one specified area? Also, would love to see your AUS/NZ travel vlog if you decide to do so!
I think it is common to do different things out of necessity. Sometimes there’s only a few related jobs available so you have to get good at spinning your experience to fit many different roles. It’s easier if you specialize in one thing to get a job in that thing, but many times job scarcity doesn’t allow for that! I would look at becoming a bit more of a generalist if I was you and get good at spinning your experience to fit multiple niches.
Thank you for getting back with me. From your reply, I like environmental outreach and developing policy. Even public policy if possible but, as I said I have minimal college education. Is there any hope? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
I'm turning 18 and I'm about to go college but, I still have no choice w/c course shoud I take that is related to my inserests and skills. Luckily I found this channel and gave me idea about this career that I was planning to take herr in Philippines
Hi Kristina! I'm currently studying biology in university and I was wondering some things about your job: - If you work for companies, which are profit-minded, don't they want to hear only good news? (Like; 'there are no special species in the building area' etc.). - Is the most money still being made through fossil fuel companies? Since I rather not make money through an industry that is one of the main drivers of climate change (and are notorious for their lack in care or even corruption) Thank you for your video!
1. Yes when I worked in consulting they sure did want good news, doesn’t mean they got it though 😉 In Alberta as a biologist you had a professional license that required you to operate with integrity and be unbiased. Not everyone worked like that but integrity and honest reporting were my values. That’s a really good question. 2. By not working for any companies in any way related for fossil fuels you’re cutting off a ton of your options but it’s still possible! Also take into account that we need people like you with high morals accurately reporting the impacts of oil and gas developments and helping the environment in a Boots on the ground Way! But I currently work out of the oil and gas industry since I moved to British Columbia. There are opportunities in government and the non profit world that might be more in line with your ethics :)
I'm inspired by your videos and currently I'm an incoming 2nd year environmental science student. I'm aiming to be a conservation scientist or wildlife/marine biologist. Best future ahead of us everyone!
Thank you for this informative video, it helped me so much! Could you please explain the difference between studying environmental science and environmental studies. Thank you!
Not a huge difference but generally environmental science is more technical and environmental studies can be more of the philosophy/politics side of things. Generally I would go for an environmental science major to be a biologist!
I have had the privilege of serving for AmeriCorps, nonprofits, local, state, and federal agencies in varying aspects of environmental conservation and restoration. My next steps will be to take those awesome field experiences, and to hopefully use them to be a better student/eventual professional within my field when it comes time to analyze or advocate for better policies regarding our environment. I haven't yet decided on whether I want to focus my efforts in the public or the private sectors though, but I do know that I would love a degree that offered the mobility to try my hand in both to see where I fit best. I am torn between Environmental Studies and Government, however. I can't tell whether it would make more sense to major in ES, then minor in Gov., or vice versa. I should also add that I will certainly be pursing a degree in environmental law as well. I would love to be able to use this time before law school to gain applicable experience and internships along the way, so my concern is currently with making the wrong undergraduate decision. The end goal is to work in Environmental Planning, Lobbying, Consulting, or some form of Policy Analysis. The point of the law degree for me is both to hone the skills necessary to be the best that I can be within any of those roles. I know that in the competitive markets of today, offering value is huge. I figured a law degree coupled with great networking, letters of rec, internships, and more volunteerism plus my 5 years of conservation experience would be above and beyond. I suppose that is why I am obsessed with making the right choice -- I can't tell which major would give me the proper foundation for performing the duties of any of those positions properly. Do you have any advice/thoughts on this?
It's hard to say. With my experience in government, "jack of all trades" folks are harder to find a place for than people who are certified/qualified in at least one thing: either law or environment. It's hard to be a specialist in the environment without a degree focusing on enviro sci, and it's hard to be a law specialist or lawyer without law credentials. However, you can be an environmental scientist that works closely with policy, or a lawyer/policy analyst with a familiarity with environmental science. I know that's not a great answer but just from what you're saying it sounds like you're leaning towards law so I would focus on environmental studies/policy rather than technical science.
@@kristina_lynn Thank you! This actually was a helpful answer, and makes a lot of sense. That part about being a "master of none" is great because that too was a concern of mine. At the end of the day, it is the policy/law side that appeals more to my personality, interests, and skill sets so that is where I will focus my energy. Much appreciated!
THANK YOU I’m 16 interested in environmental science and you really helped me narrow down my interests

Sounds like you should study animal science or zoology! Perhaps find specific animals you like such as farm animals or wild ones.
There is definitely a demand for vets but idk if you are interested in that
@@normalaverage3328I definitely thought about that but I’d rather deal with exotic animals from different countries and mainly rescue and rehabilitate them. Being a vet is cool and all but it’s not exactly what I’m looking for especially in the states when you don’t get to see or help exotic animals (exotic being animals not native to the stays or not seen on a daily basis ex. I don’t want to work on cats and dogs or hamsters and snakes)
Am interested in this field since I looove nature. Btw you're very pretty.
This is so helpful! Thank you!
And I would love to see your travel videos if you decide to film!
@@leekleek373 Sweet!
can you please make a more detailed video on climate scientist
These are really helpful, thank you
Thanks so much for these videos, they are helpful!
Hopefully next year future bachelor in environmental science!
Surprised at how many of these jobs don’t actually have the objective of preserving and protecting the environment / wilderness against corporate interests and is instead often working with corporations who have a history of environmental destruction. Wondering why this dilemma wasn’t discussed / why the issue doesn’t come up more.
as student in Degree Enviromental engineering you help me a lot
Thank you for your insight, it is very helpful and much appreciated
Thanks a ton this is so informative!
im in highschool and very interested in becoming a wildlife biologist! not many schools in the country i live in offer ecology, the ones that do offer are very far away :(( so would choosing an environmental science course for college still let me become a wildlife biologist?? thank you for these videos they're really encouraging and informational !
Subscribed! I found this video very informal!
Super helpful thank you!!
Thank you so much for making this video! It helped me immensely:)
Thank you for getting back with me. From your reply, I like environmental outreach and developing policy. Even public policy if possible but, as I said I have minimal college education. Is there any hope? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
It wouldn’t hurt to peek around at postings and apply! It would be tough without at least a bachelors though
Environmental health and safety is also well paid.
Yes, and there’s a decent amount of jobs available in that field!
I'm turning 18 and I'm about to go college but, I still have no choice w/c course shoud I take that is related to my inserests and skills. Luckily I found this channel and gave me idea about this career that I was planning to take herr in Philippines
Thank you for this video this was so helpful
Hi Kristina! I'm currently studying biology in university and I was wondering some things about your job: - If you work for companies, which are profit-minded, don't they want to hear only good news? (Like; 'there are no special species in the building area' etc.).
- Is the most money still being made through fossil fuel companies? Since I rather not make money through an industry that is one of the main drivers of climate change (and are notorious for their lack in care or even corruption)
Thank you for your video!
Environmental engineer 😎😎
I am a civil engineer. Doing my masters in civil & environmental engineering...
3rd semester starts :-D first two A grade :)
Thank you for this video!
Currently I'm doing my Chemistry major with a Minor in Environmental Chemistry. Hope to find a setting job where I get happy.
Amazing video! I've been feeling really lost and this helps a lot
I found your channel and you’re so cool! This was helpful thank you ☺️
Awesome video!
Much appreciated!
idk if anyone has told you but you look sooo much like robin from how I met your mother!
0:33 hmm..... yes two
