I know a lot of chemical engineers that switch into environmental engineering for grad school. With both degrees the possibilities are endless. You can do industry, consulting or even a teaching job.
Do you recommend studying environmental engineering as a bachelor’s degree or as a master’s degree? I can’t seem to decide whether I should major in aerospace engineering since it was a dream that I’ve always wanted to achieve or choose the environmental engineering path instead cause the past few years I became more aware of what’s happening to the world and sometimes I get eco-anxiety whenever I think about it. I become more anxious when I see how ignorant the people around me about this whole situation and I don’t want to sit and wait till we destroy our only home. I used to think that there’s no way to fix what’s already been destroyed so space exploration is a better option to find a new home but now I know that it’s never too late not yet at least. I’ve always been interested in space so I mostly cared about what’s outside the earth. I’m confused and I don’t know what to do. I thought about getting a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and pursue a master’s degree in environmental engineering but I don’t think that could be possible since they don’t relate that much. Do you have any advice for me?
Hey There! I would personally opt for a bachelors degree in environmental engineering and a minor in aerospace engineering. But what matters most is what your want to do when you graduate. Make sure to choose a degree that will enhance your opportunities for jobs in your chosen field. Hope this helps!

It’s a little difficult to link renewables to environmental Engineering. Renewable materials is more material science engineering, renewable energy is more chemical engineering. But some folks in EE study the impact of air pollution on solar panels. There are ways to do it but it’s not a straightforward connections as we are more concerned with air, water and waste
Important classes for EE include microbio, chemistry, computer science. Important skill sets would be excellent team work, project management, and adaptability.

Will you please help me by suggesting the better program in masters. And one more thing is environmental engineering and environmental management are same. Please reply madam
Environmental engineering and environmental engineering management aren’t exactly the same. You may take a few overlapping classes but you need to look at the school you’re interested in attending to be sure of the differences between the two. Environmental engineering is a great program! Wishing you all the best with your master degree applications
No you don’t have to be amazing at math but you do need to be able to learn and apply the right formulas for a given situation. I will talk more about this in my RUclips Live Stream in March 4th, 2021 at 5 pm if you are free to join or you can watch the recording after it is finished. Thank you for the awesome question
Not usually but it depends on the classes. I would look at the classes offered at your school and look at general environmental engineering courses to see if there is any overlap in what is taught.
I’m studying environmental engineering and next year I’ll finish my course. I want to know how is the market for this engineering for pleople just graduated in Canada? I’m from Brasil and I want to know if they hire people without experience.
Hey Laura! Congrats on studying environmental engineering. The best way to get your foot in the door is to start doing engineering internships. I would look at jobs offered at university career fairs because they usually hire for entry level positions. You focus on marketing your skills and knowledge of environmental contamination mediation, math, and problem solving
I usually search for internships at the schools I attended. It’s good to look at the companies you want to work for and email them if they have opportunities for you to work at their company. And ask if they visa opportunities.
I would check to see if there are any close by colleges that have environmental engineering classes so you can get the experience. You can also minor in engineering if that is available and take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in environmental engineering to get the job you want. You got this!
Hello! It really depends on the kind of job you are interested in that should determine how many chemistry courses to take. I took general chemistry, organic chemistry, fate and transformation of environmental chemicals, and water chemistry classes because I enjoyed this area of study. But most programs have chemistry courses as optional other than general chemistry.
Hi imari! Am really interested in environmental engineering and I love the part it in volves computers. Can I be a software developer for companies ?and i really personally want to speak with u alot on this course .am very much interested to know more and persue it.i currently finishes high school and I am a bit lost
If you are really interested in software development: I would look into computer science or electrical engineering. With an engineering degree you can work as a data scientist at big companies like Facebook or Google. You can even go into business later. Doing this degree won’t close the door from those opportunities. The best thing to do is start taking the engineering classes in college and then decide your final major a year in. It’s ok if you don’t have it all figured out yet 😊
Some do. I know alot of environmental engineering researchers that work in different countries or even local wetland environments to study water or air quality
Yes you can become an environmental engineer if you go to school again and get a masters or PhD in environmental engineering. Or get your Professional engineering lisense. To get a PE means your need to take two exams on environmental engineering and work a certain number of years as an engineer. It’s a lot easier to get a job in engineering if you get a degree in engineering.
I have a question for you, first of all thanks for your video helped me a lot, now my question. Does environmental engineering is related with the development of clean energy sources ?
Great question! I think you are looking more for Energy Engineering which is a different major that's not always available at every school. Environmental engineering is usually trying to solve water, air and waste issues. But it is likely for an environmental engineer to be a part of the conversation to see the environmental impact of different energy sources.

But some folks in EE study the impact of air pollution on solar panels. There are ways to do it but it’s not a straightforward connections as we are more concerned with air, water and waste
@@imariwalker Thank you greatly, well communicated.
Hello Imari. What skillset do you think should EE students acquire to better address the challenges of the 21st century?
Important classes for EE include microbio, chemistry, computer science. Important skill sets would be excellent team work, project management, and adaptability.
@@imariwalker Thanks ! Looking forward to learning more from you.
Do you have to be a genius in Maths and Physics to pass?
Hi madam,
I am spandana, I had done my under graduation in civil engineering department. Now I would like to go for higher studies specially environmental engineering and sustainable engineering.
Will you please help me by suggesting the better program in masters.
And one more thing is
environmental engineering and environmental management are same.
Please reply madam
Environmental engineering and environmental engineering management aren’t exactly the same. You may take a few overlapping classes but you need to look at the school you’re interested in attending to be sure of the differences between the two. Environmental engineering is a great program! Wishing you all the best with your master degree applications
So I am almost graduating but is it ok to go straight to a Masters program n then find jobs after that??
Most people I know went straight into their masters or PhD program after college so it should fine!
🙏thank you
do you have to be amazing at math to be in this field because I'm, not the best at math but I'm really interested in this field
Can I take Engineering and Environmental science and still be considered an EE?
@@imariwalker Can I apply from Brazil? Do you know which site I can search for internships?
I usually search for internships at the schools I attended. It’s good to look at the companies you want to work for and email them if they have opportunities for you to work at their company. And ask if they visa opportunities.
i want to be an environmental engineer but my college only has an environmental studies major
I would check to see if there are any close by colleges that have environmental engineering classes so you can get the experience. You can also minor in engineering if that is available and take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in environmental engineering to get the job you want. You got this!
Can be a environmental scientists with engineering degree... I mean which one give better job perspective
Yes! I am now a environmental scientist as my job with a engineering degree. I have many more opportunities with this degree.
Hi thanks for your great video
I wanted to know how the chemistry is in this major and how many courses should i take?
Are you working on your Ph D in Environmental Engineering so that you can teach at a four year college or university?
A PhD can certainly make you more qualified to teach at a college but right now my focus is on research.
Does an environmental Engineer get to do field work ??
Some do. I know alot of environmental engineering researchers that work in different countries or even local wetland environments to study water or air quality
Better in 1.5x speed
can i become an environmental engineer with an environmental science?
Yes you can become an environmental engineer if you go to school again and get a masters or PhD in environmental engineering. Or get your Professional engineering lisense. To get a PE means your need to take two exams on environmental engineering and work a certain number of years as an engineer. It’s a lot easier to get a job in engineering if you get a degree in engineering.
Message is good for me
Can someone in the medical field apply for environmental engineering?😅
Absolutely!
I have a question for you, first of all thanks for your video helped me a lot, now my question.
Does environmental engineering is related with the development of clean energy sources ?
like renewable energy
Great question! I think you are looking more for Energy Engineering which is a different major that's not always available at every school. Environmental engineering is usually trying to solve water, air and waste issues. But it is likely for an environmental engineer to be a part of the conversation to see the environmental impact of different energy sources.
It depends on the course. For example in Hannover Uni in Germany, Environmental Engineering has a specialization in Energy.
I want to..but I suck at math
Math is tough but is all about doing what you enjoy! With the right support group and tutor, you can get through the math!
