@@lexasdfghj I'm glad you did what you want to do. Have you heard from the universities yet? Know that the journey will be hard but to believe in yourself even on the hardest days. I made a video on careers if you're worried that about the future of environmental science: ruclips.net/video/dwi8Uz5hRxs/видео.html I promise you, this is a field that needs a lot of help and that the work to be done is immense. But its not as easy if you're looking at salary and prestige and fighting societal pressures. Sometimes there is a harsh reality to listening to your heart, but you have to make those hard choices yourself and take responsibility for it. I'm sorry to hear that your social circle doesn't support you. My best advice would be to ask them what about being a doctor or nurse is so important to them, and see if you can find other ways to give them that same sense of security that comes with doctoring and nursing. There are many ways to make money and many ways to make a difference in a world but sometimes people get tunnel vision and only see one way.
@@environmentalice1 Ive accepted my university offers and im likely getting into the one i preferred, the course i applied for at that uni was environmental science with business management. Environmental science is amazing and I hope you continued to pursue it. I am in my Ph.D. program and the variety of things you can do with the degree is phenomenal.
I'm an undergraduate from Environmental Engineering (B.Eng) from UII, Indonesia, and what Ms. Alice says about every university is different on their own curriculum is true as much as I believe. For example, if we're studying in a tropical country that has around 30 degree Celcius, the technologies taught often use a system that is relevant to the same temperature. Other than that, if you're studying in a country that is still developing, the curriculum will match the system and technology that suit more low-maintenance cost such as DEWATS WWTP instead of more complicated one. I also have seen the curriculum taught in Russia and some northern countries, and I saw a lot of them consider technologies that are more suitable to the snowy or low temperature's degree. So, before you choose where would you study about Environment, whether in Engineering like me or more like Science part, be sure to research what you are implying on environmental study. Where would you apply your knowledge in the future?
This video was so helpful! Everything was put really concisely but all the right information got across. I’ve been worrying a lot about what I specifically want to major in and where I’d like to pursue that major and this video definitely got me further along that process, thank you.

The main reason I’m majoring in environmental science is because I’m really passionate about environmental problems, chemistry, and biology especially microbiology. I like the topics of pollution identification, bioremediation, Pollution control, microbial ecology, environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, hazardous waste management, and things like that. I really like laboratory and field work. But I’m not too crazy about the law and social science classes I’ll have to take. but thankfully my environmental science major is with a concentration on biotechnology and bioremediation so it’s more technical which is good for me. I’ll also take a minor in chemistry since I like environmental chemistry and biochemistry as well. Do you think that’s a good reason for me to pursue the field ?
