Hello When I was testing, I found that rendering sequences using XPU would inexplicably pause rendering, and using XPU would prompt "KarmaXPU: Texture [c:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 20.0.547\houdini\pic\oceanramp.exr] has miplevels with a resolution which do not match round-down mode. Stopping at miplevel 2 ", I don't know if this is causing the render problem, but the render jam is random
I waited for a few hours with no results, but I seem to have found the problem, I migrated from houdini19.5 to 20 project, seems to be caused by this, now in 20 to rebuild solaris, testing again, hope to solve!@@Nicolas_Drum
Trying to figure that out as well rn, the way I'm doing it atm is to boolean that section out of a bigger ocean and copy the materials from the ocean proceadural which i then use to shade a surface or extruded volume from a fliptank but this is surely optimizable
Hey Nick, thanks for the tut. im also get ting this error and i dont get the corret spectrum when i hit 'reload'. "Warning: Ocean Procedural could not dice geometry due to missing Camera primitve. Please ensure a RenderSettings with Camera has been defined."
@@Nicolas_Drum Hey Nick, i add the camera for dicing as you mentioned. But when i reload the spectra it does not update the mesh. i do not see the same detail from the sop. And i get that error.
@@spectrewashere Ah this might be because u didn't fully render the scene, the preview shows only a preview on the standard setting. Try rendering to Mplay or to disk and see if u can see the detail then.
Hi I'm facing an issue with materials when i switch render engine from karma cpu to karma xpu. The materials are gone and the ocean surface turns to white. please help me to find a solution.
@@Saibaba-vt3mf Try to follow the Video again I explained where u find the Ocean LOPs Shelf tool :D the preview node is called Houdini Preview Procedural
That dicing setting seems to be pretty broken - or at least it works but continually throws up errors like the camera isn't connected even when it is. Have you run into this problem? (Also they have a typo in their warning too.) Every time I move the camera - after i connect it to the dicing i get the following warning: "Warning: Ocean Procedural could not dice geometry due to missing Camera primitve. Please ensure a RenderSettings with Camera has been defined."
Thanks! You'd have to do a flip simulation, if u search for Houdini Storm you should find a Tutorial Series posted on the Houdini Channel that is really indepth. :D Besides that a good alternative is using a labs wave deformer
Since then I also looked into that a bit more, u can use a guided ocean tank or a flat tank simulation from the shelf tab. I might make a tutorial on that soon! :D
Well I rendered with a 4090 and resolution is a big factor here as well. Also there is a difference between M Play and writing to disk in terms of time. If u render images to disk it will also take a bit longer. I hope that helps :D
of course there's a dozen more factors that play into rendertime, just try changing some parameters like ocean resolution or size and see how ur rendertime differs :D
@@Nicolas_Drumhad to come back to this. for some reason it just worked. 5seconds on the average. im sure my machine was choking at the time. lol. thank you

@@metosdriveos4516 Yeah that's exactly the setup. You should check out some tutorials on lighting scenes and rendering that might help you to understand. Theres some displaced Grids and a Karma Fog Box in the Scenes from the start but the ocean is the same. Also I explained the parameters in the Video that you can make the surface look the way u prefer. Did u watch the Video or did u just skip to the end?
Thank you sharing ❤❤
Great man ! keep posting this type of tutorials with short video length !
NICE. Thanks for this!

I get the same error message when rendering but the render still works, did u wait after the error or did u close Houdini immediately?

Hello, so..this error can be ignored?
@@ferencnadasdy4414 for me everything still works despite the error so it should be fine

Great tutorial! Do you know how to merge this ocean setup with flip tank, then render with XPU?

Hey r u using LOPs Oceans or the normal Ocean tool?
@@Nicolas_Drum I am using karma ocean node in LOPs and I'm not able to find Houdini ocean procedural node.

It does actually render it though - just continually throws up that warning with every movement of the camera
You can check in your Karma Rendersettings as well as in the Ocean procedural (or procedural preview) is the correct camera prim is set for dicing.

i tried but i am getting 30sec plus render time. what affects render times pls?
