    WOW, I would rather have this HDMI mod than GameTech’s or Innovation’s GBA TV Converter. So then I can capture motion control games like Kirby: Tilt ‘N’ Tumble and Yoshi: Topsy Turvy/Universal Gravitation, and no longer need to tilt my GameCube console with GB Player in it too.

    The only thing I can think of with the quiet sound in 8-bit mode is the way the mod is pulling the audio from the CPU - it might be only taking the "Direct Sound" (GBA PCM) channels and what's heard from the GB/GBC "APU" / PSG channels is only interference / bleed...? If you try a GBA game that uses both types of sound together such as Sonic Advance (1/2/3), Mario Kart Super Circuit or F-Zero Maximum Velocity I'm guessing some instruments of the music will be quieter than others.

    I worry about the durability of microHDMI... I know that, in the DSLR space theres lots of complaints about microHDMI breaking after repeated cycles of plugging and unplugging the cable... it looks like theres actually enough space to shove a full size HDMI port int he top of the GBA... but it would probably require more extensive modification. Still... this is really awesome, and looks like a good mid point between a full portable and a consolizer, if you want to capture games.

  • @KoakiDulest

    Recently installed the kit, would you happen to know why it's out putting a pink tinted video for HDMI? My IPS has proper color but the HDMI does not. Also what capture card do you recommend with this kit ?

    • @makho
      @makho  Год назад

      I don't recommend a specific capture card with this kit. I just know elgato has compatibility issues.
      HDMI could be a bad cable/adapter or a problem with the mod itself.

  • @MelegantMe

    I soldered the audio 1 and 2 cables, (not intersecting or anything, and they're definitely still connected upon examination) but I'm not getting *any* audio output via the HDMI... do you know why this is? Do I have a bad board? Or bad solder joints?

    • @makho

    • @makho
      @makho  2 года назад

      An AGS-101 LCD barely fits as is. You'll have to get real creative with your shell trims if you want to fit that screen with this mod board. Consider adhering the screen directly to the lens and then trimming the shell to fit that assembly. Additionally, the rear shielding of the screen can be removed (though do take care not to disturb the backlight diffusor) for an extra half mm of space.

    • @makho
      @makho  Год назад

      Depends on the specific kit, really. There are some variants floating around that simply do not switch the screen off OR they require a button combo to do so. You may have one that just doesn't turn the screen off.

  • @fonarte

    Shame the scaling is garbage. You could easily fit a 4x scale GBA image in a 720p window (960x640). But that'd take actual work..

    • @makho
      @makho  2 года назад

      well, if we take the creator at their word, they are using 3x integer scaling. It's just that your device has to support the output resolution (and 3:2 aspect ratio). None of my devices did.

    • @makho

      Laminated kits typically leave more room inside because the LCD being closer to the glass moves it away from the motherboard. ruclips.net/video/hMm9rqB_V3s/видео.html

      @DevinHorowitz 10 месяцев назад

      I can confirm there is compatibility, I did it with a funnyplaying laminated kit plus a funnyplaying motherboard. It went together easily, but you will need to trim the retention bracket that holds the laminated screen against the shell in addition to cutting the shell itself for the HDMI port.

Was wondering if you can do an overall summary video on IPS kits for the SP to help me choose the best kit. Not really bothered about TV out, just want the best kit which comes with an IPS ready shell preferably. Going by all your notes I've read, FunnyPlaying would still be the way to go, but unfortunately they don't seam to have any shells in at the moment. • @ThatMartinezGuy
      @ThatMartinezGuy 2 года назад

      @@makho Fair enough. I know "better" is subjective. What I meant by that was which does the following "better" : ease of use; picture quality. If you could only have one, which would you choose? I know that you are friends with other maker's and don't want to put down other products. Not trying to do that here either. I get your point about apples and oranges. Was just wondering which provided the best picture quality (in this case, on paper it's the consolizer) and ease of use. Both are cool products.

    • @makho
      @makho  2 года назад

      @@ThatMartinezGuy I'm not friends with either maker. I just have a relatively open line of communication with the maker of this kit.
      Re Picture Quality:
      Consolizer type mods (either woozle's consolizer, gamebox systems' gbhd advance, or zwendergy's gbahd) have much better picture quality than this thing. The setup is much more involved and the GBA will no longer be a portable system. You get to use an external controller (or not if you option your install that way) and no longer have to rely on batteries (or do if you have a wireless controller e.g. 8bitdo). This mod, on the other hand, is pretty easy to slip into an existing console as is but it does have fewer options for configuration and extra features and actually supported neither of the two HDMI devices I tried it on properly. The resolution/aspect ratio was incorrect.
      Re Ease of Use:
      Like I said, the niches are different. If you find yourself basically only playing on the big screen, a consolizer type mod makes more sense. If you find yourself switching back and forth, this mod can make more sense unless you just want to do a completely separate build and swap your games between the two builds as you play. If you find yourself playing largely on the go with the occasional plug in to the TV, this mod stand alone might make more sense. Your choice.
