My brothers and I would play this game every summer on our PS1 (Which we still have to this day) and it has such a great story and fun gameplay that current games are missing today. With the director of Legend of Dragoon giving us talk of a remake last year, then it's only natural that Square should also consider a remake for Threads of Fate! It's such a great opportunity!

Playing this game's demo is one of my earliest memories. I couldn't have been older than two or three years old. I remember having played it so much that I would reenact the fight against Nightmare at the end of the forest with my hands and my dad realized "I think he needs more games..." For all my life, it was just a vague memory of a game where you play as a girl with two big rings in a swamp, and I finally started looking for it from what little I remembered. I would literally look up lists of PS1 demo discs and watch everything on them until I finally found Threads of Fate. It felt like finding a long-lost friend. I finally started playing the game about a week ago and it has truly been one of my happiest gaming experiences in recent memory. The story is wonderful, the characters are all lovely, and the gameplay was awesome. I tend to have some trouble returning to PS1 games sometimes because I've been spoiled by the quality of life modern games have, but Threads of Fate never felt like an "old" game, just a classic. It's been a while since a game has made me visibly smile wide and even laugh out loud, but Threads of Fate delivered on all aspects and I am so glad I finally played this masterpiece.
Easy children's game? OMG I feel so bad, I'm playing it now and I find it pretty hard. I don't remember having so much problem with ff series or other SF games. I'm loving it tho!
Seriously, Square Wake Tf Up. Can't believe you just mentioned an under-rated Square Game Einhänder. We will add this game to our list. Would you like to be credited on the video for it?
@ablationer It's never too late. This is what Im here for. Thank you for the request. I will add this game to the list and credit you for it. Thanks again
I used to play this game a lot, that and Brave Fencer Musashi. Always thought Mint was far more interesting both in story and gameplay than Rue. Also kind of surprised you didn't mention how the original manga project ended up being used for Negima! Magister Negi Magi instead
@@GameCircleTvNo problem! Also, interestingly, there was a little fan game made by the same people who made Recettear called Duo Princess, in which two players can play as Mint and Maya respectively. Pretty neat
@@GameCircleTv Definitely, thanks to the fans, we now have a J-RPG renaissance, even though there was a moment when many people thought this genre would die out. Suffice it to say that we lost the Breath of Fire and Suikoden series along the way. But thanks to our tenacity, we got a remake of Stare Ocean 2, Xenoblade 1, and there is a good chance that we will also get Xenosaga. Thanks for making videos like this, it's also very important ;) we are part of one big community. I believe that the next generation of players will sooner or later get a remake of this great game or a sequel.
This deserves a sequel. Maya and Ruenis let's go!! This feels like playing Megaman Legends. Same energy, quirkiness, chill gaming, etc. Very underrated. This, Vagrant Story, and Parasite Eve are the games I'd like to get sequels in future.
I hope they do crossover with popular games like Genshin Impact (release characters Rue and Mint like Aloy of Horizon Dawn) and then remade and re release the game for sure success revival story of the franchise
I fell in love with the game because of its demo. Took a couple of years to finally play it. One funny thing is that one local video game magazine called it "a sequel to Brave Fencer Musashi", which wasn't a game that I ever play, but kept it in my head, and then later "Musashi: Samurai Legend" came out on the PS2, and I was so confused over why nobody brings up "Threads of Fate" while discussing the game. Till this day I have no idea if the reviewer meant it as it being similar gameplay-wise or if they got confused........ And that was my weird angegdote about my relation to this lovely game!
With how there was that sequel bait after you finish Rue and Mint's storylines and make that save file, it's interesting to hear they were going to give Maya more recognition, though I wonder who the other one would've been...maybe Rod if they were going with the male/female dichotomy. Or perhaps the character at the end of the game with the sequel baiting would make more sense? The possibility for expanding the world was there too, the fanbase is still thriving in a way, though it doesn't seem like there's as much interest. Last I heard there was the petition that I think I signed to try to stimulate SquareEnix's recognition
@@GameCircleTv I would hope they even just try what SquareEnix is supposedly doing with FF9 and try an animated series to garner new interest in the franchise overall. Could get the manga made eventually too
I mean, legend of mana managed to get remastered and woth an anime movie and it was one of the trio, along with chrono cross who also got a slightly enhanced port. Threads if fate should be next and if it goes well, it could get it's sequel
Hello, I'm from Brazil, I remember when I played threads of fate for the first time, it was quite fun and I remember that together my friends called it zelda from playstation, but now replaying it, it's a fun game and quite beautiful for the time, but the gameplay sins a little, as well as the story... But it has great characters, very charismatic, Mint, May, Ray has so many characters that I like including the villains, and yes I think it deserves a remake or a threads of fate 2, I would love to that was an RPG or an ADVENTURE, well very good video! sorry about my English!
We agree, this needs a well done remake. Nothing wrong with your English and we appreciate you showing love all the way from Brazil. Check out our other videos on the Lost Games series and please tell us what other games would you like to see remade or revived?
There is a problem in terms of the story, since I'm pretty sure there are some events that could not simultaneously happen in terms of Rue and Mint's stories progressing as they do in each path. It's arguably minor in a way, but at the same time, it seems like they could've solidified better how each plot was going on while there were the occasional interactions. The most explicit one I can think of is the Lake Temple scene which happens pretty differently in terms of particulars, even if the outcome is the same with Prima Doll
I played in on Duckstation and adjusted the all the settings to max with 16x resolution/ vulcan. Felt like I was playing a ps4 title. The graphical fidelity is insanely good. You need to try it. This game is absolutely underated gem.
I´m from Mexico and this title was truly a gem... I don´t get it why fan-developers don´t try to make remakes of this kind of games. I´m pretty sure it would be a great deal. We are a lot of 30´s gamers around the globe. P.D. Sorry with my broken english
I don't care if it's 2024. I still want the sequel of it and they can always use the scrap the made for it which was made in their golden era. Square's games nowadays don't seem to be as good so really, a sequel of that game would have a great potential if it was released today.
I find it interesting how people talk about why this never had sequel but no one brings up the image of mint was actually sold off after a year or so. So that also prevented them from making a sequel since they sold the likeness of mint off. Today they could skirt around that since Mint's look could change enough but seem the same. I dont think at this moment in time, its seen as profitable for many reasons. Being someone was was around when it was released, I know people in my age bracket (44) aren't the target audience of games any more. Also game difficulty has also gotten harder as a standard. With that being said. If they did a sequel today, it would be a lot different. Games today are going with a more darker feel to it, where this was light hearted, added with the fact the game central point was co-operation (story-line wise) I think you would lose this, given how games are today they would cheapen the story and switch it with a system which supported co-op of players. Which I am not against but writers today are damaging so much. I dont see them "today" pulling off a sequel we would be happy about. I personally couldn't stand Rue and always felt his weapon looked like a bad joke, a mix of horrible made guitar and cheap axe. I know they made the point to remind you Rue was a doll but damn he was the only doll with no personality. I know Rue said he'd help Mint out next time, but please no lol. Another issue would be the voice over. Don't get me wrong, gaming has come FAR with great voice overs but, if there was a sequel today how many do you think would prefer a silent Mint!? Its one thing reading her words but you put a voice to it, I think there will be a bad outcry. Although I wouldn't mind hearing a woman try to spaz stomp while saying things like "stupid , ugly, moron". I would love to see a sequel but looking around today, I dont see it being done right or getting a green light.
@@GameCircleTv How easy it was , never mattered to me. Its target audience now might hate that. Hence my point. The game wont look the same as it will be geared towards a newer generation. The story wont be close to what people would want in a sequel. It would plainly have to be rewritten as a new game. The whole upbeat nature and comical events wont be in a game built today. Writers today dont do long thought out material, they do cheap one liners. There hasn't been a steady release for the fan based to have slowly grown an accepted change like Dragon Age Origins as an example. Even though its faulted throughout the series its been able to recover. With that being said this is so long ago, its better to restart it. A restart is more wise, a sequel would be altered too much and upset people. A reboot of it would let them see how many returning players would still play it and pull in a newer generation(s).

Weird that you didn't mention the secret ending which hinted at the sequel. Where did the info for Maya come from because that ending didn't involve her. It would indicate that Rue and Mint would still be the protagonists.
@@GameCircleTv But you're talking about the sequel of a 25 year old game. Spoilers are implied or you know you could just give a spoiler warning like everybody else.
I am pretty sure some of the Manga came out but I am not seeing it now. I remember seeing it back in the day, it was only in Japanese and I think it may have just been one chapter. That said I hope they revive this.
I still have the original PS1 game and remember finally seeing the sequel bait scene after beating both plots, though it's definitely a game that wouldn't really have replay value without serious revamping. Go through it twice and...then there's not much unless you just want to challenge yourself.
Another reason is because pretty much the ending has close the potential of continuation Although Threads of Fate Ending show that Mint inviting Rue to Relic Hunting, there's really not much anything to be hyped left since Valen the final Boss was strongest Aeon and Dew Prism technically strongest Relic ever made and now it's just destroyed There's no much potential to continue the story as they already beat the strongest enemy they could ever face (Valen)
I am gonna get a PS5 if there is a sequel or remake of this.... otherwise I will never buy a PS5... such a waste of money when there is no sequel or remake of such masterpiece... I mean come on SquaireEnix! Know your wonderful past! Music alone is mesmerizing.
We are simply showing love to the games fans feel deserve a sequel. Whether deserved or not, it's all up to the fans to at least want continuation of stories, etc.
@@GameCircleTv Games that the creators WANTED to make a sequel to. I can think of Kya Dark Legacy, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, and Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness. Though Angel of Darkness eventually got a sequel, even if it was only a book. A game I personally would like a remake of is the last Jak and Daxter game, since it was outsourced to a different developer, who changed the story for the worse. A remake with the original writer in charge would be an automatic improvement in the story department alone.
I see this really sad is a no other game of it, When I finish the game I wish to play the next game and see their Next Adventure and see those character grow more not new characters to play, I play Mint I lot, What I love her is not only of her use magic but she can show kindness but not many time, she show more her bad side and more when she angry but girls like her are the type show care to many but when happen to care of someone and see this someone be hurt will make them angry and you will think many time before do it, well is what will do if this girl shot magic on me and for Rue .. well I am not found of him but I like his mystery side and is power to transform and his good will but he a bit Naïve more then Mint but when see someone is SUS(Among US joke) he will stay his guard up but still his Personality is a good balance for Mint who she Bold and arrogant but not evil , But when she want something she go get it but when she want to safe or Protect someone she will not stop fighting and is the same for Rue, this is why I see them as Perfect team and is why I have hope for new game of their next adventure but too bad … sigh found a good disc of this game are really rare most are damage and do not work, ... is will be good a remastered of this game, better graphic and even Voice(I really wish this) but still is too bad we got only one game
I think the poor sales was mostly their own doing. They published a crap load of other games already in that same year and then shipped Threads just a couple months before FF8. So probably a lot of people like me just couldn't keep up with it all and just saved our money for the one or two we wanted most and a new ip was waaaay down on my list lol. I did pick up a copy later though. I couldn't get into it. The story/characters were pretty generic and bland and the gameplay wasn't very compelling either. Of all the Square games to miss out on a sequel, this one disappoints me the least. Great vid btw :)

If they make a sequel now most people won't or have not even played the original, a remake when done well will cause a domino effect making people want a sequel
@oct91988 Well written. I completely agree with this
What's the source on the info about the 2nd game being about Maya?
Got the idea from here, www.google.com/amp/s/www.siliconera.com/threads-of-fate-and-the-sequel-that-never-was/amp/ from a fan made game.
Wasnt there a game called duo princesses that was related to this game?
Great question. Duo Princess, released in 2003, is a fan-made game intended to be an unofficial sequel of Threads of Fate.
If there's any other question, let us know. Is there any game you wish was brought back?
@@GameCircleTv oh ok. Just remember like a box art or something way back in the day. Never knew much about it. Loved treads of fate back in the day though. Even had the guide.
Thanks for the mems man.
@Chris Kennedy The memories are what we are all about. Thank you for watching the video. Stick around and check out our other videos for more nostalgia. If you like what you see, give us a follow.
Weird that you didn't mention the secret ending which hinted at the sequel. Where did the info for Maya come from because that ending didn't involve her. It would indicate that Rue and Mint would still be the protagonists.
I try not to mention secret endings to not spoil.
@@GameCircleTv But you're talking about the sequel of a 25 year old game. Spoilers are implied or you know you could just give a spoiler warning like everybody else.
@@s-wo8781 this is true. Thanks. Definitely will consider that
It's a shame. I kinda wish they would revive the series through a remake or remaster or make the sequel. Thanks for the video!
If Live a Live came back, nearly anything could.
True
i literally had to watch every ps1 games in youtube just to find this game
You hadn't remembered the name, or you never knew about it?
This game was great. One of the games I regret selling and one of my go to emulator games.
Dude. Why did you sell it????
I am pretty sure some of the Manga came out but I am not seeing it now. I remember seeing it back in the day, it was only in Japanese and I think it may have just been one chapter. That said I hope they revive this.
There is a Threads of Fate manga but its not related to anything from the game
@@GameCircleTv Thanks!
@@KingofGeo what other games do you wish could make a comeback?
Final fantasy tactics is the big one that needs a remaster
I still have the original PS1 game and remember finally seeing the sequel bait scene after beating both plots, though it's definitely a game that wouldn't really have replay value without serious revamping. Go through it twice and...then there's not much unless you just want to challenge yourself.
There's some truth to it. At least for nostalgia and challenges and speed runs.
@@GameCircleTv I feel like I've heard about speedruns for ToF
Another reason is because pretty much the ending has close the potential of continuation
Although Threads of Fate Ending show that Mint inviting Rue to Relic Hunting, there's really not much anything to be hyped left since Valen the final Boss was strongest Aeon and Dew Prism technically strongest Relic ever made and now it's just destroyed
There's no much potential to continue the story as they already beat the strongest enemy they could ever face (Valen)
@@-ArdhaniChandra So that's it?
I have faith
Love this game so much
It's a classic. How would you like the sequel to be?
When we see what they did to the developer of Visions of Mana
I am gonna get a PS5 if there is a sequel or remake of this.... otherwise I will never buy a PS5... such a waste of money when there is no sequel or remake of such masterpiece... I mean come on SquaireEnix! Know your wonderful past! Music alone is mesmerizing.
You can still play a lot of other classics, and some of them have remakes. Or did you only like this game?
@@GameCircleTv Personal favorite 😉
Wishing for a sequel to every thing ever made is just not right.
We are simply showing love to the games fans feel deserve a sequel. Whether deserved or not, it's all up to the fans to at least want continuation of stories, etc.
Which game do you feel does actually deserve a sequel?
@@GameCircleTv Games that the creators WANTED to make a sequel to. I can think of Kya Dark Legacy, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, and Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness. Though Angel of Darkness eventually got a sequel, even if it was only a book. A game I personally would like a remake of is the last Jak and Daxter game, since it was outsourced to a different developer, who changed the story for the worse. A remake with the original writer in charge would be an automatic improvement in the story department alone.
@NotOrdinaryInGames These are great choices, and some are games that we may look into as to why they have been left behind. Thank you
this game need a remake I think..
or an anime, just like they made legend of mana anime
Anime is a great idea remake even better. What other games do you feel also deserve a remake?
ofcourse! i still remember the pain where that gargoyle shit chase you
it took me hours to get away from that asshole lol
It's definitely a rage quit situation
Yes, just one game. Sadly. This story needs a continuation
i really want to play treads of fate 2😢
A much needed sequel
Chrono Cross was largely considered the reason for the poor sales
Why you say that?
This game is awesome!!
Love lost games!
And we are just getting started. Which games would you like for us to talk about?
@@GameCircleTv hey I'm just here for the show! Any beta games or cancelled games like you've been doing would be great
@@MegaAmir46 Thank you bro. We appreciate that a lot. Our next game is The Legacy of Kain Series.
So sad no sequel
Very sad. What would you like a sequel to have?
I think the poor sales was mostly their own doing. They published a crap load of other games already in that same year and then shipped Threads just a couple months before FF8. So probably a lot of people like me just couldn't keep up with it all and just saved our money for the one or two we wanted most and a new ip was waaaay down on my list lol.
I did pick up a copy later though. I couldn't get into it. The story/characters were pretty generic and bland and the gameplay wasn't very compelling either. Of all the Square games to miss out on a sequel, this one disappoints me the least.
Great vid btw :)
That makes sense, save the money and buy a gem since there were so many options. Thank you for the feedback. Which game dissappoints you the most then? Or which would you like to see revived?
@@GameCircleTv You already covered it but never getting a proper sequel to Chrono Trigger definitely hurts the most :(
@@nanoglitch6693 that's facts
Im confused. Did we say that?
Good game but the problem 8n this game character is mute
You feel that one factor is a big cause for it staying behind?
