    One correction on your review at 4:01 is that Tri Ace developed the game. While SE's logo is on the cover, they published it.
    Other than that, great review on Radiata stories! I agree with you that it is a great game that is often overlooked.

      +SnappleRyRy89 he didn't say square made it, he said its like square made a suikoden game in this day and age, while it would sound like that, it could of very well just meant it had a square feel to it

      +kindomhearts masterfan That's pretty much what I was trying to say. I can see where the confusion came from though.

    • @SnappleRyRy89
      @SnappleRyRy89 9 лет назад

      Sry for the misunderstanding but yes, I totally agree that the game does feel like a Square game.
      IICRC from when I made that comment a few months back, I think I was a bit annoyed that the SE logo on the case/disc while keeping the "Developed by Tri-Ace" in a small white fine print.
      Then again, I am a huge fan of their other franchises like Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile.
      Anyways, just a small nitpick but a great game nonetheless!

    I got this game for Christmas in 2005 and I fell in love with it right away. Since then I've played it multiple times although its been a few years now. But I still think about this game fairly often. The combat system was fun, the characters all had character, the music was fantastic, and the world though not hugely open had many secrets and hidden things to find if you were into exploring. I also loved the idea that you could pick a fight with almost any npc in the game. I too think it deserves some kind of a prequel, sequel, or remake. It was just such a unique experience, a truly original game, and had so many special and unique aspects that I can't all name here. It is one of my favourite childhood games :)

    I have played this game and beaten it so many times that I have lost count. When I mean this, I can tell you basically how to get anyone, where to fin them, the games songs etc. I love this game and it is my number 1. I will forever love and recommend it to anyone. If only it got noticed more or gets remastered!! Long live Radiata Stories!

    What I loved about this game was the characters, even the ones that weren't that important at all in the story. They weren't just some random NPCs that just stood in one corner the entire time, if you actually stalked (cough) one throughout the day you'd realize that they'd go from place to place doing stuff. Loved how they made the characters this way.

    (Spoilers)
    Beautiful, gorgeous game. Such a nice story, and really fun to play overall. And the choice you had to make? It really mattered in the end.
    Also, I've always thought one the most meaningful messages the game brings is about choices.
    If you follow Ridley, you'll follow your heart, and you'll protect someone you love until the end, and beyond. However, you won't get nearly as powerful as you could be (the best allies are on the human side). You end up giving up a little bit of yourself, of your potential.
    If you choose the human side, you'll reach your full potential, and you'll probably have the same level of power your father had. However, you won't be able to protect the one you love the most (excluding his sister Adele). If you can't protect Ridley in the end, what is the point of having all that power?
    As Elwen said: "You lack real strength, because you wield your sword only for yourself. Remember this: only those who fight to protect another are able to acquire true strength.”
    I smile like an idiot when I remember anything about this game. But I don't really mind =)

      Thank you for this comment. You definitely encapsulated the dilemma of that choice in the middle. Jack having to pick between siding with his humanity (His heart for Ridley) and literally siding with Humanity is a deeper narrative that I ignored when I was a kid playing this.

    i play this gem for almost 500 hour, this is one of the most fun and the hardest game ever if you want to beat all the secret boss
    to beat the etherial bitch queen your stat must be maximum, even that still wont be enough you need lots and lots of healing item and they all very2 expensive, you need more than 300 hour to collect enough money to buy them all

    the game does have a slow start. i remember back in the days i play for 3 hrs and stop playing coz it just seems a bit boring. but then i saw my friend playing and immediately fell in love with it. many characters each with their own unique back story. the game also have a great replay value, one of the things many rpg is lacking nowadays.

    A remake of this game or a game in similar style (people living their daily stuff) and recruiting would be great. However I would appreciate if they we're more creative with the weakest members of each factions and give them a chance to upgrade their moves/skills/armor and maybe even volty blast so that they are on par with the top tier leaders and give the game much more diversity.

      Its pretty awesome. Has a kind of slow start like most jrpg games, but after its awesome. Testing out different teams and finding or buying better armor and weapons. Split decision down the line that gives two different endings and sides of the story. There are some missable characters and missing them stops you from getting some of the best recruitable characters so I'd advise you to use a recruiting character guide if you are trying to get the best teams possible. Or not if you are just trying to play through. You can still beat the game with lesser characters its just a little harder that way.

    So,..circa 2019. Game stands up to time passing. So much so that, in 2018...maybe earlier, actually 2017 we see a report for PS3-4, as well as ported to the short lived but incredible machine...The Vita. Also, Radiata Stories becomes hella hard to find, and if you do find in a local retro game store, easily goes for from $35.00 on up to some sealed copies going for at 90 to 100, sometimes lower. Just got my copy, unsealed for $44.99.

    • @Pyrokan
      @Pyrokan 10 лет назад

      Daniel Campbell Actually Non-Human story seems more like a True Story for this game. It just have worse gameplay because there ain't so many good party members on non-human side + there is that persistent feeling of alienation (which might be good actually, considering the story)

    • @Kyalie
      @Kyalie 10 лет назад +1

      Pyrokan
      I agree with you Pirokan. It works well because when you end up fighting people you knew by name and what their hobby was as if they were random enemies, it's like a punch in the guts. And the whole 'two Dragons' and 'curse' issue is far more explored in this route than the other one. Hell, if you play the human route and go in the castle of Algandars you get a story-boss music for a boss that's supposed to be there for a random quest, while it's a story boss in the non-human route. To me the ending of the human path actually fell flat, but the other one felt a bit truncated. There are things that work better in one route than the other one in both routes.

    Because it's an underrated JRPG. The company who made it, don't think it's worth it for the PSN due the low amount of sales. In the end, it comes down to "can we make a profit on this or not?"
    Too many companies makes FPS these days because there'd less time consuming than an RPG and FPS is more popular genre than RPG, so there's a much bigger profit now because FPS is the new bandwagon genre.
    Where back in 1997 (till 2005 I think?), thanks to FF VII the RPG was the bandwagon genre to go for.

    I'm currently playing this and loving its quirky humor. The story is interesting, but the battles have been really bland. I'm at the fight with the Blood Orc in the Low Elves' Metropolis.
    Gameplay truly has been just mashing the Circle button and moving around with the anlogue stick. I also don't like how you're required to roam around areas to find the 1 NPC that will advance the story. At least the NPCs usually have something funny to say though.
    As much as I'd like to continue, I think I'm going to have to pass. :{

      Let me vouche for that as a vet of RS (150+ hours in one file right now) The gameplay is a lot like something you would see in Star Ocean 2 (Same company made RS Enix Tri-ace (Use to be a sub-Company of Sqaure and their own), but there are a few diffrences. Namely in combat, combat is pretty much string attacks ala DW style (Mash to win), but you can also block which GREATLY reduces the amount of damage you take (this is effective for all elemental armors and blocking the same element)
      More on combat are the powerful Volty attacks, there are 2 of them for jack and some NPCS have their own (Gerald for expamle, has Dual wave blade) for jack the basic one of pressing square unleashes a decent powered attack that has a high knock down chance, this one cost 10 CP (CP becomes more important early on) While the 2nd a powerful multi-hit attack that will ALWAYS knock down and deals a massive amount of damage, this cost 100 CP (Max) You can also later order party memebers who have Voltys to use them but it does take up all your CP.
      CP( Command Points) Allow you to give orders in battle from boosting attack or defense to healing to some other effects. CP also allows Linking, Linking sets all your party members (you need at least 3 to link) into a soild group. There are many links but the one I use the most is Cricle and Attack, Cricle has no offense but heals your party as long as they don't move (tricky to use), while attack link allows you to unleash a strong attack as one with your team. Also while linked you share abilities with your party (IE Auto-Healing on Jack will auto-heal everyone, VERY useful)
      Most of your gameplay time will involve Theater Vancoor or sometimes called the warriors guild and doing missions from there, after they are done sleeping almost always progresses the story. But there is an even bigger set of events that will take up more than the story and that's Friending people, by adding people as friends you can take them along with you into battle (3 more max for a party of 4) and EVERY character AND I DO MEAN EVERY has their own personality and way of fighting.

    If you're going to review this game on an emulator, at least make it so there aren't graphical glitches in your review.

      +Dok Hycodan I can't help that the game doesn't run well on an emulator at the time of recording. IF you feel you can do better, please, by all means make a review. I'll sub.

    Theres actually a mistake with this review, the game and most of the characters, including the main hero are way too cliched, its still a great game to play its very fun and eye pleasing
