    I find it astonishing, how natural and straightforward the biblical sentences are, that can be so complicated in German (my mother tongue), or English.
    I would consider myself still at the beginning of my Hebrew learning journey, but it already helps me to gain a deeper understanding of the scripture.
    Thank you for making learning Hebrew so easy and fun.

    Hello Beth, thank you for the great lesson as usual! I've got a question: It seems that you wish to say בֹּ֫קֶר and עֶ֫רֶב mean sunrise and sunset. (Or let's say that the ancient Israelite would understand these words as such.) In light of this, how would you interpret the first 3 days of creation story? Thank you in advance. ❤

    • @AlephwithBeth
      @AlephwithBeth  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Elisa, I can see why there might be some confusion, but actually I was trying to portray "morning" and "evening" for those words, just like translations of Genesis 1 have. I'll often try to include the English words in the title or description for clarification. 😊

    • @ElisaJiang.
      @ElisaJiang. 3 месяца назад

      @@AlephwithBeth Thank you for clarifying. I did realize that all my English translations of Genesis 1 have evening and morning. I guess I wanted to say that I loved how you portrayed these words in the lesson. Sunrise and sunset make a lot of sense to me despite the apparent problem with the first 3 days of creation, because morning and evening basically mean the same as day and night. Using a set of different words should imply a change in the significance (at least nuances). Maybe I could resolve it like this, בֹּ֫קֶר and עֶ֫רֶב mean the transition from night to day and from day to night, the concept of day is given by the Lord in the first creation day by pointing at the light cycle. And only later He gave us the sun and the moon as signs of time.

    • @AlephwithBeth
      @AlephwithBeth  2 года назад +2

      Literally this sentence is "they did not see [each] man his brother" but a more natural translation would be "they could not see each other." In Hebrew "ish" is often used in phrases like this to mean "each one"

    Very interesting indeed. Just a question (5'42'') or a-boqer ou or-a-voqer ? about the rules of BeGaDKeFaT; Thanks.

    • @AlephwithBeth
      @AlephwithBeth  3 года назад +2

      The definite article ha- always puts a dagesh in the first letter of the word it attaches to (unless that letter is a guttural which can't take dagesh, in which case the vowel of the article will change to compensate). So it will always be ha-boqer "the morning". If it were ha-voqer, then we would conclude that the ha- must be the yes-no question marker ha- instead of the definite article ha-.
