DISNEY'S THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE, PS1: i don't have a nose review

A warm welcome to the first episode of my request series - this week I take a look at the PlayStation movie tie-in, Disney's The Emperor's New Groove! Thanks to IñšañêTîkīGúÿ 7 for the request - I just hope I’ve done the game justice!
The Emperor’s New Groove has always stood out as one of Disney’s more diverse attempts to buck the trend and deliver a flat-out animated comedy as opposed to the classy, sentimentally driven flicks with which they’re most often associated. Whether it’s to your tastes or not, one must concede that it is one of Disney’s most diverse and underappreciated animated movies to ever grace the silver screen. But does the tie-in videogame for the PS1 maintain the movie’s quirkiness and fast-paced humour?
Well… the short answer is ‘sort of’. It certainly makes a number of admirable attempts to remain in-keeping with the spirit of the movie, even if the voice acting is a little hit-and-miss, and some of the attempts at humour are a wee bit too surreal. Regardless, the gameplay is pretty solid, despite some minor issues involving platforming and combat. And there’s just about enough to maintain your interest, with an array of, erm… ‘interesting’ characters who help you on your journey, including a man dressed as a bird who believes he can fly but can’t, and a naked man who has his underwear snatched by peacocks - who incidentally can fly. Oh but I’m fairly certain the writers of this undiscovered masterpiece were higher than the two of these guys will ever be!

Ok it sounds like it’s actually Yzma’s VA in the game 🤔 which is pretty cool. And to quote her ‘I’ll smash it with a hammer!’🤣 (the hammer part in the game is at least in character 🙃🤣)

@@idonthaveanose i will! Have you ever considered doing the Donald Duck game for ps2, gamecube etc.? Its pretty underrated! Not like a hidden gem or anything, but worth giving a go. Its called Donald power Duck or something like that.
@@iroyhanouwer1685 I'm aware of Donald Duck PK but never played it, and I do have Quack Attack/Goin' Quackers but I am truly horrendous at it, so it's in the maybe pile. 😂

Thank you!! I've never played it myself actually - one of the few I haven't. But oddly enough someone mentioned it to me recently. They told me they weren't too keen. If I can get my hands on it though, I may review it at some point.

Huh, this was an interesting review to see. I actually did my own review of this game awhile back, and it's really cool to see how you touched on a lot of things I didn't even think of mentioning like the crosshair being too big, sometimes being tricky to hit guards without getting pierced, lack of people in the village race, etc. I actually didn't mind the voice acting at all strangely enough. Maybe it's because I've played the game way more than I've the seen the animated movie. I do agree that the boss battles were WAY too easy though. vid.me/xZzpU
It's good to see something from a different perspective. This is one of the few games I didn't really grow up with. I did play it but it wasn't a firm favourite. Thanks for your comment. I noted you also mentioned the unlockable concept art, which I cut from my review.
