DW 5000AD4 Pedal Upgrades - Artist Testimonials

- DW Pedal Artists Aaron Sterling, Brady Blade, Chad Wackerman, David Palmer, Jeff Campitelli, and Mario Calire tell you their history with the 5000 Pedal, why they love it so much, and what they think about the new upgrades for 2012.
AN INDUSTRY STANDARD GETS EVEN BETTER We've reengineered the pedal that established our reputation for innovation and quality. Because innovation is part of our DNA we thought it was time for some major improvements. Most notably, the toe clamp. The 5000 needed more gripping strength, providing a stronger connection between the drummer and kick drum. So, we developed the Tri-Pivot Toe Clamp. Three independent 360 degree, rotating rubber pads firmly pinch almost any diameter and thickness bass drum counter hoop from the top and the bottom, with zero slippage. Add to that a new textured rubber grip pad on the base plate and we think you'll agree that there's never been a better system for attaching a pedal to a bass drum. Last, but certainly not least, we wanted to improve on the smoothness and feel of the 5000, if that was even possible. To accomplish this, we added a Dual Bearing Spring Rocker, making the 5000 quicker and more responsive.

15 years?!? So awesome! THANK YOU for your support! Enjoy!
We love you! We very much appreciate your post and honest feedback. We are nothing without our customers and we praise your thought out comments. Thanks!
Thanks for your feedback! For your limited pedal range sounds you like you know what you like. :)
Thanks so much! We do our best to get to everything. Our customers are just like us, drummers! So we love to help. Our pleasure to help.
Thanks for you comments. Very insightful! Great to hear you are liking that beater and when have a pedal for you when you are ready!
I just tried these out last night at a rehearsal and I brought my bass drum in which is a 20" kick and I was like "Let me go get my pedal!" and my bud tells me "Don't worry about it."
It was awesome, proves why you guys are the leaders in innovation and straight up the bomb.
Thanks for choosing DW! The 9000 Series double pedal is the 9002. We have upgraded the double 9000 pedal with the upgrades you see in the this video for the 5000. There are still older versions of the 9000 pedal around while the new upgraded version has been hitting stores more recent.
there is not denying that DW makes top notch gear, but if you are a metal drummer like me, you know that pedals are among the few things that we truely care about. DW, make a longboard, direct drive pedal. Tama took a step in the right direction with the speed cobra, time for a DW5000 Direct Drive LongBoard.
We will definitely make note of that. We very much appreciate your suggestion and understand we do have quite a selection of beaters. Beaters are mostly about weight and the feeling you get from it striking the bass drum head.
No worries! We need feedback of any type to help us make improvements going forward. We are happy to hear that at the very least our Customer Service department was attentive to you. Those guys handle a lot everyday and do a great job. Thanks again!
Thanks for choosing DW Markus!! We are very happy to hear your pedals are working for you! The weight in comparison is really close at about 19 lb's for the and 9 lb's for the single.
We discontinued the 8000 is plans to add the 2000 and 3000 lines with a more affordable price. We are very happy to hear you have liked your 8002B though! We have spoken over a direct drive 9000 pedal and or long board style pedal but we no solid date for either or both ideas at this point.
Yeah that velcro is a sticky situation for sure. :) Chad is a ripper! We are very happy to have him and his family of great drummers playing our gear.
@blackwash Great come on back! You are welcome anytime and thanks for you back story and feedback. It is very important to us. :)
Education is very, very important! Of course we would love for you to have an outlet on a Concept kit and an Accelerator pedal but we will still be here for you when you are ready.
Thanks so much!
One of main differences between the 5000 and the 9000 is the drives or cams. The 5000 has the chain drive on a sprocket and the 9000 has a chain but it on a free floating rotor system with bearings. The 5000 is our original style pedal and has definitely received the most upgrades over the years while the 9000 was invented after we had been making pedals for a while. So the 9000 was a step for us after we felt we had enough experience with the 5000 to make a new series...
i BOUGHT 2 DW5000 PEDALS early 2002, I still have them and they work as good as new. After having the same setting for 10 years i just removed the counter weight and ajusted the cam drive to have the pedal board higher. I was going to by something else but it wasnt necessary. DW' 5000's ARE AWESOME
We offer a few different beaters for after market purchase. The 101 beater that comes with the pedal we felt was the most versatile with the felt and the plastic side.
@drumsin Thanks so much for your feedback and your support of DW over the years. We take everything to heart and we will pass along your comments about the nylon strap to our hardware team. We want to you to have many more great times when playing your DW drums and pedals.
Awesome! Glad to hear your 5000's are still working for you!! Enjoy!
Our pleasure! The upgrades for the 5000 are in discussion for 9000. That's all we can say for now!
I just bought a re-issue Tama Camco and it's absolutely fantastic, true to the classic pedal i grew up playing with a few clever, but minor new improved features, like the beater angle adjuster at the top of the spring sprocket, and the little indentation on the edge of the locking spring adjuster, preventing looseness..putting a DW 5000 standard beater on it makes it all that much more sweet to play...DW still rocks !..oh, and i will be getting one of these as soon as i get some dineiro !
Thanks for asking! The Accelerator has a smaller sprocket making the stroke of the pedal shorter and more sensitive which is good for quicker stroke. The Turbo has a bigger sprocket giving it a direct relationship from foot-board to beater striking the bass drum head. The Turbo would be the more resistant of the 2. Hope this helps!
Yeah Looey!! Nice profile pic also! We are happy to hear you have already liked the 3000 and 5000 series pedals. We have a new 5000 pedal when you are ready!
Awesome feedback! Enjoy your 5000 series pedal! Thanks so much!
...We are in discussions to add the upgrades mentioned in this video to the 9000 but no solid date on when we will release it just yet. Thanks for watching and choosing the DW 9000 series pedals!
Thanks for your feedback! We'll take your compliment on our good sounding pedals. ;)
Absolutely! 5 years on cast parts and 6 months on moving parts(springs, chains, bearings, etc.).
We hear you! We are constantly at work making new videos and developing new video ideas. Pedals need to be put in the spotlight also. Thanks for your suggestion!
@leon19951209 We hear you and we will keep you in the loop about any advances with a direct drive pedal for us. Thanks for your suggestion. :)
Thanks for asking! The stock setting for the 9000 Series pedals are set to the Accelerator setting. We are pretty sure the 9000 pedals you have played were on the that particular setting. Across the board from customers to artists the Accelerator is the choice for the 5000 series. Now with the upgrade on the Swivel Spring for the AD4 it will feel closer to the 9000 Series pedals more then ever. We hope this answers you questions for you.
Thanks for liking the 6000 Series pedals! No plans of an upgrade to the 6000 Series mainly because we like the 6000 series to be a light weight more retro style pedal with the radius rods.
@808Ites Please mention you want the newest version of the 5000 with the upgrades made just this year. You will be good to go!
@gmorton731 Thanks very much! We are always happy to your feedback and you just gave us the best type of feedback. :)
We hear you and we appreciate your connection with us. We can say we are definitely in discussion of adding a direct drive type of pedal to our pedal line. We promise to keep everyone updated!
Sorry for the delay on getting back to you! We actually were prepping and throwing an event at our factory for Guitar Center. As you may have found out already this new 5000 Series pedal does not come with a case. We hope you have already found time to try out your new pedal and feel free to let us know how your pedal is going for you.
Going to purchase another 5000 and my old one in a display case, after 15 years of jamming...THANK YOU DW
That's why we have both options for you! Glad you are loving the 5000 series!
I AM STOKED about the rubber on the bottom of the new 5000. I took the velcro off of my 5000 years ago because of exactly what Jeff Campitelli described, but I've had MAJOR problems with that pedal and my bass drum moving around. I've been using a Tama Speed Cobra lately that has rubber on the bottom that works PERFECTLY without even needing spurs, but otherwise I'd rather play the 5000, so now that the 5000 has rubber like that on the bottom, GAME OVER. Very happy about these improvements!
@TomDrummer15 Either way we happy with your liking both! :)
This, along with the Art Is In The Details clip, is what made the last push for me to absolutely want DW and nothing else. I liked Tama so far, mostly on grounds of knowing not much else, but any DW (or PDP kit) I've tried out so far blew my mind, and all these renewals of the hardware and shell constructions are such great progressions. I find it very sincere and humble to admit that the velcro bottoms on the pedals pretty much just 'sucked' and that you took them off. Love you guys.
I can't WAIT to finally buy my first DW 5002 AD4 pedals!!! Been waiting for about 6 months now and it's going to be worth it.
Awesome! Sounds like you scored a gem of a 3000 pedal. You can retro-fit the DWSM1207(5000 hinge) onto your 3000 pedal. Just make sure to heat up the area of the screws that hold the hinge because the screws that hold the hinge have lock-tight on them.
Sorry for the disappointment. When we added the the upgrades to the 5000 series pedals the carrying case or bag did not make the cut unfortunately. You can special order one from thomann(dot)de or any authorized DW dealer. Please use this part number DSCP401-L for reference. Thanks for choosing the 5000AD4 pedal!!
We are in serious discussion about a direct drive pedal. We understand there are our Metal playing friends that have a need for this pedal. We are also very happy to have our customers give us feedback like yourself. No date right but we promise to keep you posted!
Awesome! Thanks! Let us know how you like it!
@weresam1 thanks! The Concept video is in the works. I promise, it will be well worth the wait ;)
Sorry we meant "note" not "not". :) We will make NOTE of your suggestion. Our pleasure to speak with you.
You are very welcome! Feel free to to let us know how the Turbo works for you.
Ok we hear you. Quick question if you don't mind, but what would be the issue for a round top throne being awkward for a shorter person? Not enough bum perhaps(sorry only we could ask this question)? We do have a shorter DWCP9101 for lower seated players that has a 14" round top. The Tractor style seat fits everyone because of the amount of area and it really comfy also.
@tbDrums808 No plans at the moment. These upgrades are for the 5000 pedals only.
@GonzoDrummer27 Thanks so much! Great to hear you 9002 is working well for you.
No direct drive pedal but there has been conversations about one...right now we are pretty busy keeping up with the demand of the pedals we offer currently.
You got it! You will need to heat up the area with a heat gun to loosen up the loc-tight on the screw.
excellent! well, thanks for getting back to me, such a great company! :)
Hopefully I get this pedal soon! Just bought the DW Performance series 5pc set and it's amazing!
@psychonavigator so glad to hear that :) thanks for your support!
7000 pedal for 6 years??? Great to hear! You are very welcome and thanks so much for choosing the 5000AD4. Let us know how it goes for you.
i dont own a drum kit, i play the school kit, but it has an old dw5000. And i have to say, out of the limited peddle range that i have played, i have to say that it is incredible!
We are not terribly familiar with the Sound Percussion pedals we would never discount another companies gear. We can say that this pedal would land in a higher line style pedal because of the upgrades and the amount of time the 5000 Series pedals have lasted our customers and in the industry in general. We are sure there is more adjustability with the 5000AD4 pedal then the SP's. We hope this helps and thanks for asking!
Our pleasure!
Thanks for choosing the 5000 series pedals and liking the Performance Series! Sounds like the hoop clamp on your pedal is not tightened enough. Feel free to tighten the T-Screw on the side of the pedal. Also what type of surface are you playing on? That could be a factor also. These pedals with the new surface on the bottom, should stick to pretty much everything!
@DrumWorkshopInc Thank you so much for your feedback! Takes me ages to get a response sometimes. You guys answered me within hours!! I work with internet customer service, and let me say... thumbs up to you guys. I live I'm Brazil, so coming across DW hardware is tough. But man, for your customer service alone I would've bought your stuff, if only I could find some around here. Keep up the good work!!! Thanks a bunch, once again.
Just the same difference between the Accelerator and the Turbo sprockets in the past. The Accelerator gives you a quicker stroke with less direct relationship with the beater hitting the bass drum head while the Turbo sprocket has more direct relationship with your foot feeling the stroke directly to the bass drum head. We unfortunately had to take the case away when we added the upgrades to the 5000 Series pedals.
Great..Thanks for the quick response and the helpful tip on the screws..cheers !
@dww0902 Thanks for your suggestion! We will take note of it and if we bring it to the line we'll hook you up. :)
Are you thinking of lightening the beaters?
@SupraDman7 Thanks so much! We really appreciate it!
You can not upgrade. These upgrades are for the new 5000 pedals only. Sorry about that. :(
As far as pricing goes all 3 should be the same unless the Tractor Style is an Air Lift style. The Low Throne would be the smallest of the 3 obviously but the other 2 have been used by people of your height for sure. Our best advice is try either the 9100M or the 9120M at your local dealer for comfort and height reasons(circulation should be an issue with either) and see it you sit low enough. If these are are not low enough for you than go with the 9101 low throne. Sound ok??
Great to see the improvements. I play the 9000, because I prefer the gliding cam vs. sprocket cam, but both are great pedals!
No redesign plans at this time but feel free to give us any feedback.
Thanks so much!
Nice! Newer pedals will have a smoother feel with newer parts. You could probably get your older pedal smoother feeling with replacing some of the moving parts(chain, bearings, spring, etc.). We are stoked to hear you are liking your new AD4. Enjoy!
Ah the Black Velvet. Glad it caught you eye. Also more affordable than the painted finishes. The finish ply finish is the most durable finish.
No unfortunately not. We have discontinued the 7000 and 4000 series to make way for the 2000 and 3000 series. As of right now the 5000 will continue to have these upgrades and the 9000 is in discussions for the upgrade.
@kolemyers21 Great to hear you are liking your 9000 pedal!
We are currently throwing around some ideas for the next Candyland video. Our goal is too have Candyland IIII up by the end of summer. :)
No these upgrades are available on the new 5000 pedals only.
We think you are the bomb! Enjoy and thanks for your story. It was music to our ears. :)
Thank you so much, I believe I will go for the Turbo now that I know the difference!
@AudioAngerCinema Congrats on the Performance kit! What finish type did you get?!? We are ready to make you a pedal when you are ready!
No these upgrades are exclusive to the AD4 and TD4 series only.
We hear your suggestion and very much appreciate it. We will definitely make not of it. We are hear to listen. ;)
Awesome! Enjoy!
Sorry we meant "not" as heavy duty as the early 2000's 5000 Series. The 6000 Series has a more retro look with the Radius Rod.
@XxStrongDrums1996xX we do not have plans to do this at the moment, but the more requests we get, the more likely we are to make the change ;) so give this comment the THUMBS UP if you want the heelless 5000 to be upgraded!
A different feel for sure. Let us know how it goes for you.
Ouch! Glad the 9000 series is working well for you!
I got the 5000 turbo, not yet adjusted to the round cam but think I will in a little time
@xpatriotamerican We do pride ourselves on our products made here at our HQ in Oxnard, CA. The trouble was as our company was growing we has to outsource some of our hardware parts to keeps costs down to our customers. We very much trust in our design team here working with our factory overseas to get our customers the best products. We have over 130 employees working hard here in CA as we speak!
@killjoyshidae1208 no plans to upgrade the aux pedals at this time.
Thanks so much!
Right back at you!
will you be able to buy just the new toe clamp to upgrade are older, still workin great, 5000 pedals
We hear you! Are these percussive bells you're wearing???:)
Thanks very much!
Ok sounds like you are on the right track! It might just seem like you might not have the hoop clamp all the way on the bass drum hoop to us now. Carpet should be a good surface!
Thanks again!
you should post more videos of ur pedals. i play right now a speed cobra and own and played an iron cobra, but concidering buying a dw 5002 delta turbo.
Can you guys make a video explaining the different types of beaters you guys offer for your pedals? The two sided felt/plastic, the "Hardcore" beater, the plastic/rubber, plastic/wood, and the solid felt beaters?
@josiahsuthan We hear you Josiah. We have our International Sales department on it and we appreciate any type of feedback about our gear whether it be technical or how it is sold to you. Thanks for your support of DW Josiah!
On the bass drum clamp you mean?? or where the plastic clip for the drum key goes??
We are sorry to hear about the break down of the moving parts on your 5000 pedal. We are aware that moving parts can eventually break down over time from wear and tear. We place a 6 month warranty on the moving parts for this reason. Any double 5000 is designed for all types of double sty-lings so we are sad to hear this pedal didn't work out for you. We hope there is a time where we can get you back into a 5000 pedal. :)
I've been playing dw5000 pedals since 1983, having found an affinity for it's stable, yet smooth feel (although "sluggish" some would say compared to today's hi-tech "silky" offerings) from the get-go. My new 5000AD4 arrives this coming week with all the new upgrades, and I'm very glad that one of those upgrades is the Tri-Pivot Toe Clamp, not only for the sake of lengthening the lives of our kick drum hoops, but also for the sake of creating a more secure and sound--sorry, couldn't resist the impulse of that pun--relationship between pedal and kick drum. However, since we do live in an age fettered with "personalized" options, I wonder about a 5000 that offers players the ability to swap the double chain linkage for a nylon strap, which I suppose might call for the inclusion of a second cam to accommodate such a change, or one cam friendly enough to receive both chain and nylon strap.
