Mystery solved guys, it's 100% the driver of the GTS. He's obviously is not riding the curbs like the driver of the Vette and according to Bill Auberlen that's how VIR should be run. The driver in the GTS missed most of the curbs and he understeered too much and took the wrong line in many turns. I feel much more informed now and everything makes sense
You realize that the driver of the Grand Sport also drove this car, but wasn't as fast in it as this lap. The results at Laguna Seca (from Motor Trend) are largely consistent with this, except maybe the M4 GTS did even worse as the 1LE Camaro was only 1/10th behind.
We don't know the condition of this likely prototype. The Ring is a very high speed track. GTS is faster then GT350R in a strait line. VIR is a very technical track. Both Z28 and GT350R have bigger tires allowing them to pull higher G's which means higher speeds in the technical areas.
I just picked up a 23 M4 CSL with 386 miles on it in Frozen Brooklyn Grey Metallic and the car is literally blowing my mind! It's pretty much NOT a street car: even in its softest suspension, engine and transmission settings it rides like an empty dump truck, tramlines like a Can Am car, and sequentially downshifts at stop lights when you are going like 7 mph! Long story short: I'm in love Still the earlier F80 chassis GTS still intrigues me. ESPECIALLY because there were a few (in late 2024 as I write this) GTSs with under 1000 miles and I found one with 390 miles for $95,000 ask. SO tempting. Factory roll bar in a US car? Manually adjustable front splitter? Adjustable carbon rear spoiler? Water injectiom? Those insane gold rims? 100% manual double adjustable shocks and 494 hp! The only thing is that 494 is an HONEST hp listing. The CSL with "543 hp" outruns both ZL1 and ALL Hellcats including Redeye & Jailbreak. It is literally neck and neck with the Getrag 8 spd DCT in the 760 hp GT500. The reality is the M4 CSL makes an HONEST 615 crank hp. To push a 3600 lb car to 131 mph in the 1/4? And 0-150 in 15.4 seconds, you are going to need 600 +
Is this an US or EU spec M4 GTS ? Because the US spec are slower. Anyway idk what to think, because the R8 V10+ for example seems pretty slow, but the 570S is lightning fast around this track. It's like the GTS is slow (because slower than the GT350R) and fast (way faster than the R8 V10+) at the same time.
Jesus, this car is beautiful. I simply have to get something smaller, and lighter than my E60 M5. But, I wanna keep the M5, too. And, I know I can't afford 2 nice cars.
waitwuttt I believe I'll hold off and try to keep the M5. It's paid off. Just maybe, on down the road I can get something that's smaller, and a little more hard core in the braking & handling department. I'd like to score a Cayman GTS, hopefully. That'd fit the bill for me. It'd be perfect for the roads where I live.
What an over-priced pile, slower than the GT350 and the Corvette and twice the price. Ultimate Disappointment Machine 👎👎 still sounds like ass too. I'd rather have an M2 and a pile of cash.
+powaup Actually you're doubly wrong. It's not a race car and it is street legal. BMW M doesn't even use the M4 chassis in any GT series that they compete in. They use the M6.

You might as well compare the RCF GT Concept with the upcoming M4 GT4, which will more of a fair comparison to the RCF GT Concept.

The R8 here came with base tires, but for BDC it has the optional Cup 2 tires and performed significantly better.
