Odd that this video pops up now. My son's escape had not been running for 4 months. We didn't have any of the mentioned warning signs. One day it just began to crank but not start. Anyways, I just replaced the fuel pump myself about 2 weeks ago and got it back up and running. I'm pretty proud of myself. I saved some money. It was so satisfying to hear it start up.
Dude! My 99’ chevy k2500 has been doing this for awhile. I too replaced gas pump and filter, still wouldn’t start. Security light kept flashing. Followed your instructions. Cut the orange and yellow wires and looped together. Dude! Security light stopped flashing and started on first try😮. Didn’t need to wait ten minutes on and off. Thanks a million by brotha! 🤘🏼

Great video & info. Several of these symptoms (sputter, blinking CEL, noises, some hesitation) are now present on my son's 99 Camry with 136k on it. I changed the plugs/wires/cap/fuel filter (all Denso) 5k miles ago, with no issues at that time. I'll put my scanner on it to see what codes are stored, but I've already ordered the pump on Amazon.
Read codes. P0300, P0301. Misfires. Pulled cylinder one plug. It was loose, but clean. Checked other 3 plugs. All good. Put Techron in tank and CEL stayed on next day. Cleared codes, will check throttle body plate tomorrow. Still not running 100 percent.
I checked the fuel pressure. Perfect at 49psi. Went to friend’s shop, as he has an Autel scanner. Located the issue 1-2-3 with minor test. Plug wires 1 & 2 were shorting at the bottom of the spark plug tubes. Spraying water trick would not detect that. New Denso wires ($42.15 Amazon) and problem solved. Runs perfectly again. Returned fuel pump and Denso plugs to amazon .

Im not getting codes. I had to bang on the tank, its been idling for 3 hours now in park. No problems from the idle. Am i just clogged with trash or is mine going out?
The majority of what is mentioned here is exactly what is wrong with my car. It sometimes won’t start even if I try pumping the gas. My mechanic and others I’ve spoken to said they didn’t know unless they had the car when it wasn’t starting. I took it to get a diagnostic test twice and neither one picked up fuel pump. wtf!! Ty for the information
Very informative video! My '04 Explorer has had sluggish acceleration for a long time, but started randomly stalling during the past year. In the past month it's been more frequent and getting harder to get going again after a stall, and most stalls are at the moment of pushing the gas pedal coming out of a turn. I suspected the pump so put it in a shop this morning to get a new fuel pump and filter.

Gas tank whined for about 10 seconds, (tank was >25% full, I know, habit I need to work on lol) got worried about a failing fuel pump! I believe my pump is out only getting 25 psi instead of 35 psi +. I have a 98 expedition and first 4 of the fireing order are the cylinders that's misfiring. Great advice.
I bought a 97 Rodeo...82K miles...in pristine condition for $2K...engine had low power. Owner took vehicle to several shops...no luck fixing. I dropped gas tank...pulled fuel pump...factory "quick coupler" on fuel pump output was cracked/leaking. Replaced coupler with short piece of fuel hose secured with hose clamps. Vehicle been running fine...now has 120K miles. Word of caution: I replaced fuel hose from gas tank to metal fuel line...it started cracking 3 yrs later...found out fuel hose has to be rated for fuel injected vehicles. Parts stores didn't have the hose...found some on eBay...vendor was in UK. $11 👍

I have a 2019 Acura rdx. Recently under acceleration the exhaust will pop quickly with loss of power simultaneously. Changed all the spark plugs, and after 5 days it started back. I know my fuel pump has a recall on it, but acura sent a letter saying it won't have the part for me until November 😒

Very helpful video. My 2011 ford fusion hasn’t been starting but will crank for a while before it gives up. It almost sounds like it’s going to catch but shuts off. I’ve been trying to figure out if it was the fuel pump. I haven’t had any previous symptoms that you’ve mentioned though

Thanks for the video Zach. Unfortunately this sounds exactly like the issue with my 2011 Honda Civic, 160k mikes. Just bought 4 months ago. Feel totally shafted. Codes said misfiring coils. Changed them all. After 4 days running great, car sputtered merging onto highway. Didn’t have enough power to make it up my driveway (let it cool for an hour then made it). Been noticing a longer crank at start up too. Just really inconsistent. So fuel pump replace time. Another $1,200 I can’t afford. So depressing. Have any connections in Santa Rosa CA that could do it for a deal? Thanks again
Unfortunately I don't have any connections out there but my recommendation would be to try to find a neighborhood mechanic who works out of his garage. Pump should be like $200 probably for a quality one and I'd be surprised if it is more than a 2hr job - never done it on a Civic so not sure how difficult it is but generally speaking fuel pumps are relatively easy to replace so find a guy who will be honest about the hours and charge you $100/hr instead of the $200+/hr that dealerships and probably indy's are charging out there in California.
This happens to my 2012 mini cooper I changed the fuel filter,spark plugs and ignition coils and it idled a bit better but still long crank to start and eventually dies after on park for a bit. I am changing the Fuel Pump over this Memorial Day. Hopefully this fixes the issue. Scan tool read p0300-301 multiple misfires.
I got mines fixed. It was a tracking device hooked up to the car, and water had gotten into the device and corrode it. Then it causes a fault to the fuel pump which was probably connect to or near the wire.
I opened the fuel pump access cover in the trunk and jumpered the pump leads to 12 volts. The pump makes an uneven rumbling sound. Car starts after long cranking. Bad pump? Just replaced it 10k miles ago.
My 2023 xt5 needed a surge pump according to the dealer. Took it in after seeing the engine light on. Its a year old car. Is this normal? They ordered the part. Is it safe to drive??
What would happen when you attempted to start it? I may be having this issue. Changed the starter, but the issue persists. I get all my lights on but zero crank
@@lex_one-two i had all my lights come on as well and it would try and start but never kicked over ...once changed it was all good to go ..when you try and start it you should hear a clicking sound come from the back of the car near the exhaust if you dont hear it its most likely your fuel pump ...
Sounds like a fueling problem - or your alternator could be going bad - fires up then battery dies cause alternator isn't keeping it charged. But the hard starting would have me leaning towards fueling, especially if you don't have to constantly recharge the battery.
My digital fuel gauge is all over the place for Average and Range numbers. Happened after I got gas in my car. I'm only getting a different reading on the range when I turn it off and on. Very rarely does it go up or down in mileage when driving. Avg numbers bounce up and down. Everything else appears to be working properly for readings. Switched gas stations and it's still having this issue. Would that be something that a fuel issue would be causing or is ir another issue entirely? Nothing on the scanner is showing up for a specific code problem.
If you have long starts of the engine there will not be a problem with preheaters? How to understand where exactly is the fail if the engine check isn't lit?

Hey 8020, my car is stalling when coming to stops and when idling at stop lights and signs. It seems to start okay but after driving for about a minute it starts stalling. Other than that there is no symptoms. What else could it be besides a fuel pump?
Tbh I had that problem with my car, but I took it to a mechanic and basically replacing the alternator and battery seemed to fix it, as sometimes if either one of those is going bad it can stall your car. However rn I only have a crank or stuttering noise when starting the car, it could be a fuel pump issue.

Great video very informative! I have a bmw f30 316d and i've replaced the engine, injectors, hpfp, all the sensors in the engine bay and the ecu. Its a bit slow to start and then the engine shakes heavily/ sputters at idle and continues to shake unless i unplug the presupply pressure sensor. But if left plugged in or plugged out when I drive it and come to a stop or low revs and speed the engine shakes like crazyyy. I was thinking maybe it might be a fuel pump issue/ module/ dirt in the tank... There are no codes showing up and no power loss... Any insights would be greatly appreciated
My 2014 gmc sierra 5.3 is throwing po300. It runs great until the engine temp gets warm. This is when it starts to miss terribly. It’s our only vehicle and daily driver. Any advice is much appreciated

However, whenever its even under a quarter tank of gas, the car stalls, hitting the gas does nothing then it slows to a stop and wont start again until after putting gas in it. Hey so need some help. Got no noise from the pump when the ignition is on. If I jump the relay, I can hear the pump. The car will start but as soon as it comes back down to idle, the engine cuts out. Have tested the fuse and relay and everything seems normal... Is this a fuel pump issue, or something bigger?

Hi, good info, in your opinion could fuel pump be the cause of my ferrari f430 stalls when mobing on from stop position while on traffic on an incline?
So we have a 2.4 '15 equinox. The high pressure failed, replaced. Sensors failed, replaced. Now our car is just stalling. Before, it was only popping the one code, now it pops new ones every time. The shop has had our car for a week, they thought it was good after replacing with OEM sensors vs O'Reillys, said they drove it for 30min and it was fine. We get it and get not even a mile before it stalls. It only stalls at low rpms. Would you agree it could be the fuel pump? That's their ne,t guess, everything else in the fuel line is fine they tested it all. Unfortunately our car is 200k miles but we can't sell it we'd be upside-down. Theres also another class action getting started against GM on the EcoTec engines for having faulty pistons/seals and lack of low engine oil sensors (ie they hid the problem by not providing a sensor). They already lost a lawsuit for this on '10-13 models. I'm worried it could be related that but idk what to do meanwhile. We also had a dipstick Firestone guy not put new engine oil in after a change and we don't know how long we drove with low oil but the filter was bone dry when we took it to the mechanics we trust (where it's at now). I'm worried about alot of damage from lots of ends honestly but I'm stuck with this car.
I got rear ended like probably 4 weeks ago and ever since that happened I had noticed my gas on the dashboard is messed up the little gauge be going up and down sometimes it says fuel level low and when I put some the little needle don’t go up and sometimes the truck turns off on me then it turns on again I’m wondering if they messed up my fuel pump cuz it don’t read my gas mileage either it’s a 2012 Chevy Silverado
My 2004 Honda Element sometimes runs perfect but other times starts misfiring, takes a little bit to crank, dies, rpm surges then dies. I think it’s both the fuel pump and injectors but idk.

I have a kia sorento 05. I have the same problem. But the only codes i get os for transmission soleniod. I check relays and fuses. I get fuel in in injectors. Maybe a lil too much. Im getting frustrated. My car is just cranking..check engine light is on...all that started after my mechanic just gas the car really hard as it was parked after changing a leaking gooseneck
My civic 2018 now is cranking slow. It was like it won't start at all but if i press deeper on the brakes it starts but very slowly. Even after driving the car it starts/cranks the same. The slow starting happened suddenly after i parked the car outside for 2 hours with the weather gloomy and raining. Went to a battery shop to have my battery checked and it read, 36% health, 270cca, alternator 100%. Does it sound like a fuel pump issue or just the battery? From experience, once my car battery dies, all the lights on the dash blinks and clicks fast. But not this time. So i'm confused if it is the battery or fuel pump causing slow cranks. Is 270cca too low to cause hard starting? Thank you
How about when my motorhome stalls no matter where Im driving. When I turn it off for 15 mins, it will start right up. Sometimes its a chug a lug, sometimes it starts right up.

I have a 2016 mustang 3.7 and i have a issue when putting fuel in and once fuel is in and my air ratio drops and rpm also drops sitting at the gas station the car starts to shake as well fhe the air fuel ratio drops and rpm. However the purge valve has been replaced new coils and spark plugs and a new map sensor. Whats werid is when i take off the car goes back to normal and it does this everytime. Any ideas?
2013 2500 chevy 6.0 48 lbs of fuel pressure , it drops 1 or 2 lbs when i throttle it lightly , might have hit 50 on previous test , runs like the timing jumped at first , it had bypassed convertors i fixed that first , still ran like crap , im thinking fuel pump ...if im wrong ..i just bought a fuel pump for nothing , it aint my truck ..
OK a loud fuel pump after starting is noisy, checking the fuel pressure with a gauge said the pressure is perfect, should you replace it at this point or could it just be loose in the tank? Tank is not full have only a few gallons in it. The owner can not afford to put much more in it. LOL Almost forgot, scan tool shows no problems

If u have enough gas in your 🚘 in your 🚘 start up n then stall in you under your hood in you look over your ignition coils n spark plugs plus wires if all that check out good then next u wanna look at your fuel pump relay n also make sure u don’t have clogged fuel filter also look at your mass airflow sensor it might to be clean look at your air filter it might need to be replace sometimes people so quick to say oh u need a new fuel pump n soons u spend money u really don’t have on a new fuel pump n soons u installed it your 🚘 still wanna start up n the main killer u will know your fuel pump not working or completely if u don’t hear no sound when u turn your key to half way on people just do your home work n look over things befor u wanna replace your fuel pump n oh yeah one more thing use your multimeter to make sure u getting the proper fuel pump resistance
Okay so my oil has been burning bad but the check engine light is on for fuel pump but I tried to accelerate but my car wouldn’t pass 3,000 rpm and not go over 35mph and then I tried to go up a hill it cut off and I tried to crank it the engine started shaking real hard and cut off … so it my fuel pump or I need a new motor and a fuel pump
My wifes car will start fine. Then after she drives around she might get a stall or a crank no start. Sometimes she will get start then stop. Only codes present are p0455 and a p0442 stored.
@@8020Media Thanks! Upon some inspection, I found that the purge valve wasn't working properly. I could get it to activate with my power probe and I could blow through it.
Trob - If it is still functioning well after 100k miles, then no need. But you will start to get symptoms indicating the fuel pump is going bad. Very rarely will it just fail out of nowhere.
My car starts first crank, however after driving a while and im in traffic or at a stop light and the vehicle is moving again the acceleration is retarded feels like its choking or losing power, not taking any rev at all. Now if i switch off the car restart everything is fine what causes this?? Injectors new, plugs and coil pacs seem good, individual cyliners checked by removing coil wires individually and replaced, i did this with the car in drive with the hand brake up. All cylinders are firing properly. Please suggeat what you think may be wrong with the car. It a 2013 nissan ad wagon cr12 engine.
@@RaymondPearce-s7cthese issues are ambiguous but i tell you where mine ended. I believe my muffler was partially blocked which got blocked more. The culprit is the catalytic converter my car has 2 didnt know thought it only had one. My pcv valve also went bad, bont bother cleaning just change pcv valve. The bad valve cause oil to enter muffler ánd probably was the final cause to block the catalytic converters. They were probably partially blocked by carbon which probably led to pcv valve going bad my car never used any oil between services. After clearing the converters ( my country dosent check exhaust emmision, ) so we just knocked them out, in a well ventilated area. Since that no hesitation to move off or after being in traffic, my gas usage is better now and the power of the car is back, need to take it on a steep hill to be sure the piston compression rings didnt get worn during the ordeal. There is no oil residue in the intake manifold now ,a sign the pcv valve was bad before. So the converters were the reason for all the 'false positives' of reasons. After changing or however you will deal with the catalitic converters just give your intake system a general service clean air flow sensors trottle body. I think my engine lost a bit of it life seems like the back pressure from the exhaust system damage the piston oil rings as the engine is using oil now. I hope this helps you let me know how thing work out for you.

C - I don't think they would purposefully cause car problems. They get paid to fix vehicles, not break them. It could have just been a coincidence.
I have a 2019 Acura rdx. Recently under acceleration the exhaust will pop quickly with loss of power simultaneously. Changed all the spark plugs, and after 5 days it started back. I know my fuel pump has a recall on it, but acura sent a letter saying it won't have the part for me until November 😒
D - I'm afraid this certainly could be the fuel pump. Are you getting an engine lights or codes?

Yes, it is more prevalent in colder weather. The engine just takes a little longer to warm up when it's cold. Both are correct!

Codes said misfiring coils. Changed them all. After 4 days running great, car sputtered merging onto highway.
Didn’t have enough power to make it up my driveway (let it cool for an hour then made it).
Been noticing a longer crank at start up too. Just really inconsistent.
So fuel pump replace time. Another $1,200 I can’t afford. So depressing. Have any connections in Santa Rosa CA that could do it for a deal?

Unfortunately I don't have any connections out there but my recommendation would be to try to find a neighborhood mechanic who works out of his garage. Pump should be like $200 probably for a quality one and I'd be surprised if it is more than a 2hr job - never done it on a Civic so not sure how difficult it is but generally speaking fuel pumps are relatively easy to replace so find a guy who will be honest about the hours and charge you $100/hr instead of the $200+/hr that dealerships and probably indy's are charging out there in California.
Here in southern Austin Texas, I was quoted $2,500.
This happens to my 2012 mini cooper I changed the fuel filter,spark plugs and ignition coils and it idled a bit better but still long crank to start and eventually dies after on park for a bit. I am changing the Fuel Pump over this Memorial Day. Hopefully this fixes the issue. Scan tool read p0300-301 multiple misfires.
Don't forget to do the fuel filter too!

I got mines fixed. It was a tracking device hooked up to the car, and water had gotten into the device and corrode it. Then it causes a fault to the fuel pump which was probably connect to or near the wire.

I opened the fuel pump access cover in the trunk and jumpered the pump leads to 12 volts. The pump makes an uneven rumbling sound. Car starts after long cranking. Bad pump? Just replaced it 10k miles ago.

@@lex_one-two i had all my lights come on as well and it would try and start but never kicked over ...once changed it was all good to go ..when you try and start it you should hear a clicking sound come from the back of the car near the exhaust if you dont hear it its most likely your fuel pump ...
My dodge RAM 2002 has hard starting and sometimes it dies but starts right away but I don't have any codes.
Sounds like a fueling problem - or your alternator could be going bad - fires up then battery dies cause alternator isn't keeping it charged. But the hard starting would have me leaning towards fueling, especially if you don't have to constantly recharge the battery.
My digital fuel gauge is all over the place for Average and Range numbers. Happened after I got gas in my car. I'm only getting a different reading on the range when I turn it off and on. Very rarely does it go up or down in mileage when driving. Avg numbers bounce up and down. Everything else appears to be working properly for readings. Switched gas stations and it's still having this issue. Would that be something that a fuel issue would be causing or is ir another issue entirely? Nothing on the scanner is showing up for a specific code problem.

Tbh I had that problem with my car, but I took it to a mechanic and basically replacing the alternator and battery seemed to fix it, as sometimes if either one of those is going bad it can stall your car. However rn I only have a crank or stuttering noise when starting the car, it could be a fuel pump issue.

I have a bmw f30 316d and i've replaced the engine, injectors, hpfp, all the sensors in the engine bay and the ecu. Its a bit slow to start and then the engine shakes heavily/ sputters at idle and continues to shake unless i unplug the presupply pressure sensor. But if left plugged in or plugged out when I drive it and come to a stop or low revs and speed the engine shakes like crazyyy. I was thinking maybe it might be a fuel pump issue/ module/ dirt in the tank... There are no codes showing up and no power loss... Any insights would be greatly appreciated

My car starts and runs great. However, whenever its even under a quarter tank of gas, the car stalls, hitting the gas does nothing then it slows to a stop and wont start again until after putting gas in it. Hey so need some help. Got no noise from the pump when the ignition is on. If I jump the relay, I can hear the pump. The car will start but as soon as it comes back down to idle, the engine cuts out. Have tested the fuse and relay and everything seems normal... Is this a fuel pump issue, or something bigger?

So we have a 2.4 '15 equinox. The high pressure failed, replaced. Sensors failed, replaced. Now our car is just stalling. Before, it was only popping the one code, now it pops new ones every time. The shop has had our car for a week, they thought it was good after replacing with OEM sensors vs O'Reillys, said they drove it for 30min and it was fine. We get it and get not even a mile before it stalls. It only stalls at low rpms. Would you agree it could be the fuel pump? That's their ne,t guess, everything else in the fuel line is fine they tested it all. Unfortunately our car is 200k miles but we can't sell it we'd be upside-down.
Theres also another class action getting started against GM on the EcoTec engines for having faulty pistons/seals and lack of low engine oil sensors (ie they hid the problem by not providing a sensor). They already lost a lawsuit for this on '10-13 models. I'm worried it could be related that but idk what to do meanwhile. We also had a dipstick Firestone guy not put new engine oil in after a change and we don't know how long we drove with low oil but the filter was bone dry when we took it to the mechanics we trust (where it's at now). I'm worried about alot of damage from lots of ends honestly but I'm stuck with this car.

My 2004 Honda Element sometimes runs perfect but other times starts misfiring, takes a little bit to crank, dies, rpm surges then dies. I think it’s both the fuel pump and injectors but idk.

My civic 2018 now is cranking slow. It was like it won't start at all but if i press deeper on the brakes it starts but very slowly. Even after driving the car it starts/cranks the same. The slow starting happened suddenly after i parked the car outside for 2 hours with the weather gloomy and raining. Went to a battery shop to have my battery checked and it read, 36% health, 270cca, alternator 100%.

T - Not necessarily, but possible. The red bolt is more related to the throttle body, if we are understanding properly.
Hi. I have a 2016 mustang 3.7 and i have a issue when putting fuel in and once fuel is in and my air ratio drops and rpm also drops sitting at the gas station the car starts to shake as well fhe the air fuel ratio drops and rpm. OK a loud fuel pump after starting is noisy, checking the fuel pressure with a gauge said the pressure is perfect, should you replace it at this point or could it just be loose in the tank? Tank is not full have only a few gallons in it. The owner can not afford to put much more in it. LOL Almost forgot, scan tool shows no problems

If u have enough gas in your 🚘 in your 🚘 start up n then stall in you under your hood in you look over your ignition coils n spark plugs plus wires if all that check out good then next u wanna look at your fuel pump relay n also make sure u don’t have clogged fuel filter also look at your mass airflow sensor it might to be clean look at your air filter it might need to be replace sometimes people so quick to say oh u need a new fuel pump n soons u spend money u really don’t have on a new fuel pump n soons u installed it your 🚘 still wanna start up n the main killer u will know your fuel pump not working or completely if u don’t hear no sound when u turn your key to half way on people just do your home work n look over things befor u wanna replace your fuel pump n oh yeah one more thing use your multimeter to make sure u getting the proper fuel pump resistance

Okay so my oil has been burning bad but the check engine light is on for fuel pump but I tried to accelerate but my car wouldn’t pass 3,000 rpm and not go over 35mph and then I tried to go up a hill it cut off and I tried to crank it the engine started shaking real hard and cut off … so it my fuel pump or I need a new motor and a fuel pump
And my mechanic been telling me it was gon be time for a new motor because of it burning oil

Trob - If it is still functioning well after 100k miles, then no need. But you will start to get symptoms indicating the fuel pump is going bad. Very rarely will it just fail out of nowhere.
My car starts first crank, however after driving a while and im in traffic or at a stop light and the vehicle is moving again the acceleration is retarded feels like its choking or losing power, not taking any rev at all. Now if i switch off the car restart everything is fine what causes this??
Injectors new, plugs and coil pacs seem good, individual cyliners checked by removing coil wires individually and replaced, i did this with the car in drive with the hand brake up. All cylinders are firing properly.
Please suggeat what you think may be wrong with the car. It a 2013 nissan ad wagon cr12 engine.

@@RaymondPearce-s7cthese issues are ambiguous but i tell you where mine ended. I believe my muffler was partially blocked which got blocked more. The culprit is the catalytic converter my car has 2 didnt know thought it only had one. My pcv valve also went bad, bont bother cleaning just change pcv valve. The bad valve cause oil to enter muffler ánd probably was the final cause to block the catalytic converters. They were probably partially blocked by carbon which probably led to pcv valve going bad my car never used any oil between services.
After clearing the converters ( my country dosent check exhaust emmision, ) so we just knocked them out, in a well ventilated area. Since that no hesitation to move off or after being in traffic, my gas usage is better now and the power of the car is back, need to take it on a steep hill to be sure the piston compression rings didnt get worn during the ordeal. There is no oil residue in the intake manifold now ,a sign the pcv valve was bad before.
So the converters were the reason for all the 'false positives' of reasons. After changing or however you will deal with the catalitic converters just give your intake system a general service clean air flow sensors trottle body.
I think my engine lost a bit of it life seems like the back pressure from the exhaust system damage the piston oil rings as the engine is using oil now.

You've got a restriction somewhere. Fueling, airflow, ignition system, etc. Need more info to diagnose it - try pulling the codes.
