- Can you mix benzoyl peroxide and retinoids? I see this conversation all over social media, so I wanted to discuss it on my RUclips channel. Here are my thoughts as a board-certified dermatologist.

For those that need the short answer.
It seems to be generally recommended to use Benzoyl Peroxide in the morning and Differin Adapalene gel at night.
But Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Adapalene gel can be used together. Differin Adapalene gel is a form of topical vitamin A that actually remains stable in the presence of Benzoyl Peroxide.
It is literally what prescription medication Epiduo(a combination of Benzoyl Peroxide and Adapalene) is. You can find a few studies on the subject in the National Library of Medicine.
However, combining both products together could cause skin irritation and dryness for individuals that have more sensitive skin.
Also some additional studies show that the lower percent Benzoyl Peroxide products work with pretty much the same efficiency as the products with higher percent for acne.
So if you want to use Benzoyl Peroxide and Differin Adapalene gel together at night it may be beneficial to go for a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser with lower percent because it can be less irritating and just as effective for treating acne as higher percents.
But as always you need to try these things out for yourself, monitor progress over the course of 4 to 6 weeks, and adjust as needed to see what works best for you and your skin.
If you require a more personal assessment then it would probably be best to see a Dermatologist.

Try Panoxyl 10% cleanser then use retinol at night. You can use moisturizer before putting retinol on your face.
You just made my life so much easier! I was on proactiv but with tret rx it’s just not feasible to use both and I’m just not willing to cut out my vitamin c even for a morning a week so I was using CeraVe benzoyl peroxide wash a couple days a week at night about 1 hour before Tretinoin application and it works AMAZING! Then I read that it degrades…. So upsetting! So thank you so much for clarifying this! It really saves me so much time and stress.
Well according to this video the BP as a wash won’t degrade the Tret, right?
I've used benzoyl peroxide on and off for 20 years. I can't seem to stay clear without it. But my question is how do I tolerate 2.5% BP with almost no irritation, but any BP wash causes irritation, itchy skin throughout the day, more dryness and a more impaired barrier? I've tried to go off leave on BP many times for 2.5% to 5% washes and they all do the same thing, yet most derms say a wash should be less irritating. I'd love to be able to use a wash instead of a leave on...Thank you!

Retinoids and hyaluronic acid work well together So I can use after wash face hyaluronic acid 2.5% gel first and
2nd adapalene+bpo gel epiduo
can you mix benzoyl peroxide gel with klenzit C gel for hair growth??
I don't know if Adapalene can be used together with Benzoyl Peroxide if in 2 separate formulas, but in Epiduo or Epiduo Forte it is absolutely fine because although they are in the same formula, they remain separated so there's no need to worry about that, I think Galderma told me that the BP in Epiduo is coated so they remain separate. As for other retinoids, it can be used with Tretinoin if your patient is using Retin-A micro/tretinoin microsphere using microsponge technology, cause it remains stable even with the presence of benzoyl peroxide. Other than that, you can prescribe to them "Twyneo" which combines 0.1% tretinoin with 3% benzoyl peroxide in the same formula. As for tazarotene and trifarotene, I got no clue but if your patients wanted to, I would prescribe arazlo for tazarotene becaues tazorac and generics are just way too irritating. Altreno might possibly be stable in the presence of BP, it is photostable but I don't know about BP

Formulations such as retin A micro aren’t available in my country so am considering a BP wash to alleviate dryness from leave on BP (especially in winter ❄️).
What about a BP cleanser like neutrogenia and tret .05%?

Hello doctor, I am prescribed tertinojn cream .1% can I use BP cleanser at the night or just in the morning. Or should I use a different cleanser at night with the tretinoin?

What about alternating tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide nightly? Tretinoin one night and benzoyl peroxide the next, alternating.

@@Ohkeh640you can but just using a BP wash is better but be careful using it I. The morning because if it irritates your skin you don’t want to have red skin through the day

I’ve been using a product that has adapalene and benzoyl peroxide already together and it’s done wonders for my back acne. I doesn’t even stain my clothes much. I don’t know if it might be too much for the more delicate skin of the face but for body acne seems to work very well for me. (Also I use it in combination with a shower salicylic acid wash every other or 2 days). All this because I stopped taking the pill and my acne flared like crazy. Hormonal acne is awful :( now I need to work on the dark spots it has left behind, ugh
(I haven’t found a wash benzoyl peroxide in my country.)

Benzoyl peroxide soaps are almost available everywhere I think you can try if unable to find other cleanser

Thank you for this video! So is it okay If I use a 4% benzoyl-peroxide cleanser in the morning, and then adapalene in night? I use adapalene for over 8 months now, and I wanted to add benzoyl-peroxide. I have a benzoyl-peroxide cleanser named "Dr. Wolff: Aknefug Oxid Wash" which has 4% benzoyl-peroxide, and you need to use after your cleanser, so you cleanse your face first, and when it's wet you put this on just to the effected areas and massage into the skin, and then rinse it off after 2-3 minutes, then you put moisturizer and then SPF, and in the night, cleansing, then adapalene, then moisturizer and that's it. What do u think about this?

These may be stupid questions but 1) does what you say in the video about benzoyl peroxide apply to salicylic acid and 2) is there a difference in effects for benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, or do they both do the same thing? Thank you!
So if I’m using epiduo forte and I normally double cleanse(gentle) at night do I still need to double cleanse if I switch out gentle cleanser for BP cleanser? Also I can just use gentle cleanser in morning?

So on different days we can use both...once a week tretinoin and benzoyl peraxoide on any other days
I have been using the same benzoyl peroxide face wash along with adapalene 5 nights a week and my face is so dry and sensitive now. I never used to have such sensitive skin. I put on the Vichi mineral 89 and it also feels like my skin is burning.
The combo can be irritating for many. Especially if you have sensitive skin. Consider cutting back on one or both for a while and gradually increase. Would not use any other products except a moisturizer and spf until your skin is less irritated

Try using a southing moisturizer to damp skin, right after cleansing. Dry it with a towel and wait for 20 minutos or so, then you apply your adapalene. Don’t use any product over the adapalene layer, so it doesn’t get transfered to the eye area.

I use the panoxyl 10% benzoyl peroxide wash for my face and body and have really noticed a difference with my closed comedones on my face and painful back acne, however I want to slowly introduce retinols into my skincare but I’m not sure how to 😩 I recently bought the Olay 24 retinol night moisturizer but I’m not sure if that would be okay or if it would just worsen my skin instead of helping it. I would really appreciate your thoughts on using these two products together.

I’ve been on a Clindamycin tretinoin gel (Known as Biacna) 1.2% / 0.025%
Been using this for 2yrs. Night use only.
It has worked up until lately my skin hasn’t been clearing up anymore and acne has been returning.
Not sure if I should incorporate Benzoyl Peroxide wash & treatment gel together? Would it be safe to? Or just use BP wash morning and continue my clindamycin tret gel at night.
Apparently, clindamycin stops working after a while because the bacteria in your skin grows resistant to it. You may want to see your dermatologist for a different prescription.

My dermatologist prescribed me Benzoyl peroxide cream 5% at ☀️ then, Tretinoin 0.025% at 🌙. I am also planning to buy Benzoyl peroxide cleanser bec the cream version makes my skin so itchy and red 😅

TRETINOIN because it's just too much for my sensitive skin. I also rarely use Benzoyl peroxide bec, my acne just healed now. I still get some pimple here and there but they're so much better. I focus on, repairing my skin like using products with ceramides.

BPO is so irritating even at 2.5 percent.. it feels like my skin is burning.
I tried the Cerave BPO cleanser for a day. My face got oily and breakouts, guess I would just have to stick to keeping BPO on my face .

Both combination it's not working, it's feels irritating and itching on face ...if going on routine daily life, I really worries about my face so I skipped now
I use them separately!
Tretinoin once a week on Tuesdays
BP on Friday and Saturday
So 2 days in between each to let my skin recover and so i dont get any irritation
