@imawakemymindisalive13 Try it but definitely be careful with your moisture barrier, it can be very drying. Salicylic acid did nothing for me but irritate my skin. Even tret didn't help my skin. Benzoyl peroxide wash is the only thing that helps me, I just have to be careful not to overuse it.
Hey yall I just used this and when I tell you. PanOxyl WORKS!!! I’m almost in tears. I did put deodorant on so I want to see how well it does throughout the night or if it will start to irritate the skin or if I’ll be musty in the morning! So far so good. I’ll I smell is my deodorant. Most times after exfoliating and re washing my armpits, I can still smell must afterwards. But not tonight. I’m shookith right now!
Benzoyl peroxide is a great ingredient; unfortunately, some of us are allergic to it. Just our luck. It cleared up my acne but made me very, very red and itchy, and that's how I realized I couldn't use it anymore on myself. No hard feelings, though. If anything, I wish I could tolerate it like other people and keep using it. 😝 Great advice from Cassandra at 3:42.
me too, i had really bad acne and i used benzoyl peroxide and it worked really well. Fast forward a couple months later, i used it on my forehead at night and i woke with itchy red dry skin, also my eyes were so swollen as well. 😐
BP was a game changer for me and still is. Mind you, I'm 36 and everytime I try to go without it (you know, wanna try different stuff) my skin is like NOPE. So, here I am, still using BP cos my skin obviously needs it.
I never suffered acne until 3 months after i stopped birth control pills. I started using BP gel for about 1-2 weeks ago and started getting very sensitive skin, burning sensation, and redness which worried me very much. Stopped using the BP gel for one night (since ive been using it only at night) to give my skin a break (which worked) and instead of applying it all over my cheeks, i just apply it on my affected spots. Tonight I was searching some info on it since I dont want to leave the treatment and thought Cassandra must have a video about it. Just my luck, this video was posted today ❤
I’m a long time benzoyl peroxide cleanser and leave on lotion user. Both Naturium benzoyl peroxide cleanser $20 and Paula’s choice leave on benzoyl peroxide 2.5 or 5%) are excellent. Both are cruelty free.

@@dahikamusfira777 Like I said I personally never had it stain my hair, pillows or clothing but for some people it’s a problem. I would probably let it dry completely to be safe. I was on Treclin Gel (with clindamycin and tretinoin) for 3 months - it cleared my acne up really well and I was then moved on to adapalene as a maintenance treatment, mainly as Treclin can only be used for three months at at time. Unfortunately, the acne came back a few months later and now I'm on Epiduo (which is benzoyl peroxide), which I can stay on long-term. It's cleared everything up and 6 months down the line the acne has not come back. For me BP is a game changer!

When you start using benzoyl peroxide with active acne it left your skin itchy and red but thats how it works. I have usedd benzoyl peroxide on my doctor's recommendation. But trust me it will gives you result in a week. If you feel overwhelming reduce its usage but continue using it
I used panoxyl in the shower and now I have bleach footprints all over my apartment. Goodbye security deposit 😭💸 I even washed down my feet after! Never again!
I stopped a horrible habbit... smoking (yay) at the end of November, and started breaking out like crazy on my chin and jaw in December. I've always had one or two around a certain time but never like this. I went to an esthetician, got monthly facials, (a couple of bi-month) used medical grade skincare, had STQ micro bio needling and still breaking out.. just slightly less frequent but still every week i'd get about 7/8 around the same area. I am lucky it is only on my jaw but going from having mostly clear skin to constant breakouts for months really has taken its toll on me, and the marks it is leaving behind. So i've stopped the facials, and i started using a 5% BPO leave on gel on 1st July, only on my chin and jaw, as i have combo skin and my cheeks can be sensitive and rocesea (butchered that spelling lol) prone. This past week I have never ever had more spots at once, i'm talking multiple giant ones with 3 heads on each and daaaaaaymn painful.. so I am hopeful that was a 'purge'. Despite this breakout, they are clearing quickly. I only use it once a day in the evening after my moisturiser as i found if i used it before moisturiser it dried my skin quite badly. I used it for months, and irritation, dryness and burning never stopped. I didn't have any major breakouts at the time, but it didn't clear my skin much either. I ended up leaving it, I don't think I'm allergic to it, but probably sensitive. It just never worked for me
I am using it as a gel right now. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is (and that goes for any kind of external used medications) - will my skin sooner or later look the way it did before BP, once I've stopped using it?
From watching the video where she explained how it worked, I'm going to say no, it doesn't. The way it releases oxygen to kill acne bacteria wouldn't get rid of oils. But also from experience as an oily person myself, benzoyl peroxide helped with my acne but not overall oiliness. This is for acne, not oil control.

Do you know if it would be possible to use Benzoyl Peroxide and Vitamin C at the same time but not on the same spots? For example Peroxide on acne spots and Vitamin C on other spots.
Used benzonyl peroxide few years ago for my acne. Got so bad allergic reaction. My whole face was red and swollen, especially eyes. Since then never used that.
I had no idea using BP and Vit C countered each other! Great info. I use BP for spot treatment. Began using a q-tip so I didn't stain my towels, and have a couple of white pj's to wear if I spot treat upper arms, chest, or back. I do use it with retinol and BHA...and I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't get irritated with it. Thanks for sharing!
I just moved from a fairly warm and humid state to an obscenely hot and disgustingly humid state. I went from having mild, manageable acne to getting the worst breakouts of my life. I started using 5% BP for my second cleanse every night one week ago. I'm hoping to see some decrease in new pimples over the next month. I'm tempted to make more changes, but the only other new thing I'm doing is more frequent overnight use of SA pimple patches. No other preventative changes yet - gotta isolate the factors.
If it's in a cleanser then it doesn't matter as much, just give it some 10 minutes before applying your other active. If you are thinking of using a leave on then best case would be leaving 30-60 min between applications, the longer the better, perhaps using it as a mask and rinsing off before your tret or vit c.
I would split them up, use the wash say in the AM and the SA at night. You might actually do better using a leave on BP, and a Sal acid wash, if you don't yet have good acne control, but I am not a doctor. You can use the leave on BP day or night, depending on your preference.
This may be a dumb question, but... Isn't it, in a sensie, counterproductive to deliver more oxygen into our skin? Since aging is, for the most part, oxidative stress? Well if we use butt paste on our face at night which is basically sunscreen then wipe it off in the morning is that anything like putting sunscreen on or is that no protection at all serious question
I love benzoyl peroxide and I also like SA but not as much as BP. I use CVS BP cleansing bar and it works amazing I use it every night and it keeps my skin clear where as SA I would still get breakouts much more then I do now. the inketlist BP cleanser is nice but expensive just go with a CVS, Walgreens or differin because they are cheaper and very similar or get the bar from cvs and that's like 10 bucks or the tube is under 7 bucks don't waste your money on brand name or the inkeylist.
Usually not. Unlike adapalene and salicylic acid which are generally long term treatments that can cause purging at first, benzoyl peroxide has faster effects but for me after stopping usage for around a month, the acne comes back. Also since it’s recommended to use it as spot or wash-off treatment it’s less likely to cause break outs. I recommend buying a tester or mini product with lower concentrations to test it’s effects on your own skin.
Say what you like about Rodan &Fields and Proactive, but 2.5% BP Gel was a real game-changer for teen acne in the late 90's/00's when it came out. Before, we only had 5-10% creams in the drugstores, and the made it really hard to use every day for good acne control for a lot of us with more sensitive skin. My sensitive skin actually found the topical 2.5% Gel caused less redness and dryness than a 5% wash, just because my skin is more reactive when wet. I would use a gentle cleaner like Cetaphil, then apply a light moisturizing "fluid or emulation" weight product to stop my skin from drying out too fast. I would then wait 20mins or so before applying the BP Gel and this really helped with side effects like redness/peeling. For those with more stubborn/serious acne, the Epiduo is SOOOO good too if you can tolerate it every day, especially as an adjutant to oral antibiotics; it can really help get bad teen acne under control in a hurry and the adapalene really helps with pigmentation and scars left over. It would be so great if you could get Epiduo with BP+Adp as a single over-the-counter product at 2.5/ 0.1% strength. If you want to use a medicated acne wash before you do a Vit C product in the AM, try a Sal Acid one instead of BP. The Cerave SA cleanser is at a really mild .5% with skin supporting ingredients to help with dryness, and Niacinamide to help with acne redness. It is also nice for those with both acne and rosacea because of those ingredients, having both together can be very tricky to treat.
Good that you mentioned being stuck with otc therapies (bp is the most popular otc in pharmacies in some places) and consulting with a Derm🙌🩵 I've been stuck with acne for years on bp (and the famous epiduo prescribed by gps) just getting more dried out and getting poor results unless using it every day. Bp is a bit outdated those days due to extreme drying affecting hydro-lipid barrier and individualised approach is preffered by Derms those days. I regret how much money and time I wasted on bp rather than just going to a derm, getting a targetted medication and having good result in a couple of months.
Commenting on my own comment- I know, BUT I'm further along in your video now and your mentioned clothing getting stained, I have literally stained every type of fabric from peroxide 😭 including my new fluffy bath "sheets"

So no way to prevent stains?
I literally just put vitamin c moisturiser and benzoyl peroxide on my skin 😭
As someone with HS I wish they had a bigger bottle and more body wash style BP. I feel it’s hard to use the products made for the face in my body.
Can it cause skin purging?
Usually not. Unlike adapalene and salicylic acid which are generally long term treatments that can cause purging at first, benzoyl peroxide has faster effects but for me after stopping usage for around a month, the acne comes back. Also since it’s recommended to use it as spot or wash-off treatment it’s less likely to cause break outs. I recommend buying a tester or mini product with lower concentrations to test it’s effects on your own skin.
I have stained soooo many towels 🙄
So, as Vitamin C is an antioxidant, does that mean it (and other antioxidants) could contribute to more acne? 🤔
No, oxidants like benzoyl peroxide kill bacteria, antioxidants just don't affect it.
Why is it banned in europe though?
It is not banned in europe. I am from germany anf there i can buy it from a pharmacy without prescription
@@therobin980 I could've sworn it was I wouldn't get any product results for it a year ago.
It's a shame it's banned in Europe for OTC products
You can still buy it online. I also just asked in the pharmacy, and they made an exception lol
@ I just got the 10% Panoxyl wash from a friend in the states, can’t wait to try 🤞
@@AliceVanIsa nice, good luck 🤞🏼
Don't use if you have very very sensitive, rozeszma skin because irritated skin.... My bad experienced..
Love you so much Cass! You have helped me so much. 🩵🦋
Commenting on my own comment- I know, BUT I'm further along in your video now and your mentioned clothing getting stained, I have literally stained every type of fabric from peroxide 😭 including my new fluffy bath "sheets"
