Ok I fixed it by going into account management, setting up Google assistant there, then cleared my Google cache, restarted my phone, then set up the "hey google" in settings. Hope this makes enough sense to follow. (Also take sure to have the right permissions on)
The deleting voice model (@2:00) and resetting it fixed it for me!! And it fixed another issue with my voice recognition that even Google support couldn't fix. Thank you!

FIXED IT! Uninstalled all Google Updates (just the Google app), uninstalled and reinstalled voice access. However, don't RETRAIN the voice. Just leave it with what you previously did. It will start opening the weather and everything while you're trying to record. LOL. It's hard to say "stop listening" fast enough for it to shut up while you record your voice answers. Of course, just turn it back on by saying, "Hey google". Seems to be working now. SAMSUNG A15
I think I figured it out, since the video directions didn't work for me. Go into Google settings, find and clear the history (cache) pick to delete 'all time', then restart your phone. After it's completed it's restart, and you turn it back on, let it go to the dark screen (off mode) what ever that's called, then ask a "Hey Google" question (not 'OK' Google)...and hope it's fixed. This worked for me! But, if you still have problems, go back to settings and re check the GA settings are where you want them. If all else fails, try enabling Bixby. Then ask Bixby to unlock your phone to use Hey Google. Good Luck! Hope this solved the frustrating issue for you. * I think this problem happened when my data got transferred from my old phone.

OK thanks..did all the things mentioned and will keep my fingers crossed. I own a OnePlus 8 running Android 13 and find the only way to fix it is by restarting..and even then, if the phone is idle for more than an hour, Assistant fails to respond..hopefully these fixes will work :)

It will only show the time on the screen of my android but it will not give me an AUDIBLE answer like it use to. How can I get it to give me an 'AUDIBLE' answer like before. Any suggestions? Another problem occurs when you are using multiple Google accounts on same device, If that's the case you need to enable access to the other account from Settings_Google_Settings for Google _ Assistant_ Accounts

@Vic De meyer the problem is momentarily fixed if you uninstall Google. But some time later, the info about your voice disappears again. Conclusion: I don't use google assistant. Probably better for my privacy 😄
How I fixed Hey Google without using a hammer... My Hey Google got messed up when I download Gemini. But don't uninstall Gemini, just leave it alone!... Go to settings uninstall the Google Assistant with the little bubbles around it. Once it's uninstalled... Re-install Google Assistant that you just uninstalled. Go thru the setup process, it's going to ask you, which Assistant do you wish to use, Gemini or Google Assistant, choose Google Assistant... now retrain your voice and that's it. My Google Assistant is working just like before. Good luck!

This is great advice, but what do you do when Google's responses are barely audible and your volume is up to 100% but when you ask it to play the news ... the sound is blaring.? I have tried everything short of a hard reset to fix this.
If your hey google opens the browser but won't respond. Go into the 'google' app in settings and Uninstall updates, then you'll have to turn the google assistant 'hey google' setting and you'll be back up and running. Make sure your google app doesn't autp update.
If you want google to talk back to u and its not simply say hey google what time is it and then wait 2 seconds and turn the volume up using the buttons on you're phone
Still not working. Setting a timer or alarm will not set it up on my locally installed apps as before. The timer or alarms are setup in a browser window. Google messed up badly and removed a very useful feature.

I can get the assistant to come up just fine, phone locked or not, but after it comes up it wants me to type in what I want Google to do or hit the mic button and speak to it. Is there anyway to keep the mic open so I can keep talking to Google without tapping mic button?
I found the fix. You have to go into your Google Assistant settings, go down to General, set Preferred Input to "Voice". Now when you say "Hey Google" it will accept voice commands instead of asking for you to enter input with keyboard or having to press the mic button.
Did ALL of this, followed everything to a tee, STILL does not work. I say "Hey Google, set a timer for 5 minutes" The "Your Assistant needs additional downloads" and "An error has occurred. This doesn't work! You have to hold the home button down for a few seconds, then SAY what you want it to do. It doesn't have any way to turn on notification permission for "Speech", which what we need to make it work 24/7.
I have never had Hey Google turned on. In fact, I didn't have Google Assistant installed at all. However, up until yesterday, I could still tap on the microphone that is in the Google app bar at the top of my home screen and say "Set alarm for 9:30" and it would do it. Now, it just searches for "set alarm for 9:30" Nothing has changed on my phone. Google is apparently trying to force people to let them listen in on your life at all times by forcing Hey Google on.

Google Assistant is a nightmare to use... specially with earplugs and the smartphone is in your bag (needs all the time to click on the earplug button, google assistant doesn't work like a normal assistant as not understanding us at all, fingerprint needs to be put all the time even if we have the bluetooth device allow secured access etc etc...

there's no "voice model" under "hey google and voice match". I just have "hey google" and "driving mode". When I try to enable "hey google" I say the phrases that it tells me to say, and then it just says "a problem has occurred". And it doesn't turn on.

I have gone through everything. Everything is on, but at 02:01 there is no voice model. I can't add one and i dont see how i can add one.

I am to activate the Hey Google feature but it does not give me the chime.

My problem was that I was saying okay Google, but it was changed somehow to hey Google.
Mine hasn't stopped working but it won't vibrate. I retrained it but it's still the same
Google Assistant is a nightmare to use... specially with earplugs and the smartphone is in your bag (needs all the time to click on the earplug button, google assistant doesn't work like a normal assistant as not understanding us at all, fingerprint needs to be put all the time even if we have the bluetooth device allow secured access etc etc...
If I say, "Hey Google" Google Assistant will come on, but I can no longer hear them talk back to me. I've tried everything, from turning things off and than back on, changing the sound of it's voice. Everything to no avail. Can you suggest something?
texascrazydoglady190 Bro, Ensure the "Microphone" and "Storage" permissions are enabled. Go to your phone's "Settings" > "Apps & Notifications" > "Google" > "Permissions." Also, check your phone's volume settings and ensure the media volume is turned up.☺️

I realized I had disabled google app, the app itself not chrome.
My screens look different than yours with the instructions given. Didn't work
there's no "voice model" under "hey google and voice match". I just have "hey google" and "driving mode". When I try to enable "hey google" I say the phrases that it tells me to say, and then it just says "a problem has occurred". And it doesn't turn on.
Hakostorage Bro, the interface have changed a little after new updates. Make sure your Android Phone is up to date then try to restart Google Assistant, it can help you to fix the issue.☺️

Once I activate Hey Google it only answers me in text format. It doesn't talk back. It only talks back if I deactivate it and start the app by clicking on it. This is driving me nuts. Any Ideas ?

My Google Assistant used to produce a wake up sound when I called it. Now it is silent. Does anyone know how to turn this wake up command back on? It was handy when I was looking for my phone.
For me it says my voice match is already connected to a device (not this one) and i have no voice match option to click on, only "link device to start using voice match. And what type of device should i add i only have a chromecast. When clicking on that it says "didn't find anything" Also when trying to configure "hey google" after the voice commands it says "something went wrong" Help PleaSe
rodalinjanlinjan2051 Bro, Ensure your Google Assistant app and Android device are updated. Try clearing the Google app cache or data. For the voice match problem, unlink any existing devices in the "Linked devices" section.☺️
the only problem for me is its not responding when video is playing. on my old phone(oneplus5t) it works but currently(samsung galaxy a31) it doesnt.

Useless. The problem is the screen lock randomly prevents the phone from responding. What's the value of home assistant if you have to physically touch the phone to unlock it?!
