    I installed a bubble on my hand drill and now drill straight holes easily and every time free hand. Only note is you must have your piece sitting on a level surface (like my workbench) on your angle will change. I like you jig for a one time jig for larger timbers but seems harder than using a bubble level to guide me. I have a couple of videos on drilling straight and any angle hole free hand accurately if you are looking for other ideas. Great video as always Pockets. I hope they keep coming :>)

    If this doesn't encourage folks to look at how they can reduce errors throughout then nothing will. Nice one pocket 👍

      That's a point I really tried to *drill down on* in this video.

    That’s as clever as it gets! I’m going out to my shed now to give it a try before fixing my daughter’s new door canopy to the wall.

    I used to make a bunch of those games. I used a template made from 3/4 ply that was a triangle the same size and had all the holes in it already. Then just clamped it to the other triangles and drills all my holes that way with a stop set on my drill bit

    Nice! I have a drill press, but still have plenty of occasions to use a jig like this. I normally make aluminium ones, which is super easy because I have a drill press! Appreciate this method though and will 'pocket' it for use come the drill-press apocalypse. Peace, B.

    I will definitely remember this next time i need to make a series of fairly even square drilled holes. Nifty jig!

    I bought a "Gator Tools" drill guide and it does a decent job although probably more prone to error than your jig.

    I've drilled wonky holes with a drill press several times 😅
    The most used version of your jig is just two pieces put together at an angle, or one piece with a bit taken out of it so it leaves a 90 degree corner.

    This probably has good application in instances where you can't remotely use a drill press - like having a perpendicular bar mounted in the side of brick wall, etc.

    Thanks. Hadn't considered how I was going to drill 6” timbers squarely. Clamping the press to the timber was a thought.

      @pocket83squared  3 года назад +1

      Interesting problem. This x-jig approach would certainly work, as long as the timbers have a flat surface. If it's a big job, maybe fab something like this from metal. Harbor Freight sells extra-long drill bits that are pretty cheap.

      @@pocket83squared40 holes and reasonably flat (tool marks from the circular sawmill’s teeth should average out). A 12” 0.25” bit drilling to a 3.5” depth hoping to hit the opposing hole enlarging in steps to a 0.5” dia hole. Should average the error a bit. Using a wide X jig should reduce error a bit.
      Clamping the drill press really won't work well as the throw on the quill is almost 3” and the table would need to be readjusted upward on the column once maybe twice. (Worst case the foot/base would be removed for a little more clearance.)
      Thanks.
