The Rack & Pinion is the crown jewel on your project, really great!! I've been trying to restore my 80 year old 6' tall dinosaur drill press and couldn't figure out how to get a wheel crank rather than a pull bar on it & I think I've worked it out from watching this. Thanks for sharing!

I can't even make this in my mind. You're the Maximus Decimus Meridius of wood sir!. Predicting views in the millions. When you don't have a starting point ( a tool to make a tool ) it's almost impossible.I'm in the middle of making a simple work table, after taking the base apart five times because nothing was square I give up, went to lowes, purchase a 4 x 8 sheet of 3/4 plywood for the top had them cut it to my specification, went home and build the base around it, now everything is square.
This is a one of a kind. It is a great design and build. You have done an amazing job on this drill press. You should be very proud of this. Thank you for sharing and you and your family be safe out there. 👍👍🙏🙏

The design is admirable 👍 it seems the sliding panel and its track are made of hardwood and not plywood. Won't it be hard to slide when wood expands and lose/inaccurate when wood contract
Wonderful idea using gear as lifting mechanism and gas spring instead of metal spring bar. I give you my both thumbs up! But, I still don't understand why a woodworking toolmaker like you made one drill press using a complete factory-made drill press which you already had previously (at 01:00, 02:15, 02:53, 11:22 and 12:04). What were you trying to prove, sir..? As a beginner woodworker like me, making a drill press of my own is because I cannot afford to buy one and I still hope to find the video without using drill press in making it. That sounds fair to me..

You could totally do this without a drill press just drill the holes for the main Pinion layers seperately and then glue them together for accuracy
