Divisive keyboard-warriors making perfornative displays of outrage are definitely hurting the LGBTQ civil rights movement.
As a queer woman living in the mountains of Arkansas ANYbody with the guts to attend , much less organize a pride event has my respect. 💜💙💚💛💗

The Pittsburgh people’s pride is much more fun than the corporate pride
I know it probably won't happen due to A) capitalism B) greed C) cost of event but it'd be amazed if there was a pride event without large corporations.
Well it will mean giving a lot of amenities and comforts up. It will mean losing police "protection". It will mean accepting that these events can no longer be 100% sanitized or safe.

i remember hearing and seeing other queer people saying "boycott corporate pride" and "stonewall was a riot" at my first pride. believed back then that it was blown out of proportion, but now see it as protesting the current greed of pride.

Very great insight. I don't attend pride events anymore. The last one I attended was in 2011 in St. Petersburg, FL. The larger the city, the more heavier the greed. The overt aggressive nature of these events are nauseating to me.
The same thing happened with Dublin Pride in Dublin Ireland one year, where I was told flat out that I was not welcome despite coming home to Ireland from the U.K. to attend, because they had gone all commercial - a few years before that, the organisers of Dublin Pride had a meltdown because a group of Spanish and Portuguese Catholic gays had organised a Traditional Catholic Mass in Latin for Pride in the nearby Pro Cathedral and back then, had promptly banned them from taking part in Dublin Pride that year
Pride is a protest and should stay that way.
Yep, now it has just become another marketing strategy that corporations use to act as if they are ethical.
And you have people like this guy doing vendor stuff like it's a flea market.
Protesting what? The government gave you a month. That's like scheduling a protest. If anything it was always like this someone always profits.

4:07 "sorta" is an understatement but I agree with what you are saying. There hasn't been a single one where I could actually find a group of black people at pride and it's in Houston! Where the amount of black people is much higher.
Maybe we can (still) fix this, now that we now what the problems are. Also, I’d like to point out/make aware of the fact these problems are NOT EXCLUSIVE to Pride Events. Events for other commuities have them too.
This is very true. My nonprofit relies on pride events to raise awareness and reach students and families. The events keep raising their prices…they are making hundreds of thousands of dollars and most of the money doesn’t come back to the community. It goes to expensive singers and bands that capitalize on the fluid cash in the community. It’s better to spend $100k on a performer for one night than support the community where the money is needed. $300 to us means keeping an lgbtq student in school or not.

I totally understand the issues with living in a capital system, and how this effects vendor fees as well.
I kinda miss the good old days where most of this was voluntaire work, and if not mistaken most of these non-profits work(ed) with volunteers.
The volunteers and the own community gets exploited, including by ourselves. How some of us make our money in the capitalistic system.
I seen a pride event end because the only 2 food trucks that payed those fees decided to leave half way through the event, and as soon as they left everyone left.
This has been happening for a long time. As a performer in the community, i stopped after 11 years.
I wish there were a people’s pride/non RC pride in Indiana I could go to bc corporate pride is icky hopefully we don’t see RC run again so then WE can own pride month.
In my personal experience portland pride (Portland Oregon) is pretty good it's run through the nonprofit Pride Northwest and most of the sponsors for the event are local businesses from the Pacific Northwest region
Here in Canada, this rainbow capitalism has gotten so bad too. And in my city’s Pride had a hate group attack us. Plus there’s no indigenous vendors despite many of us applying.
Price difference and locations, Prime locations cost more. All this is the capital system.
Good thing Sydney Mardi Gras Fair Day is not this bad! You can’t avoid all of this rubbish, but generally, Fair Day thrives on small vendors. Most of these types of events do so in Australia
Just when I'm coming out and getting excited about stuff, there's an awful lot of drama going on related to pride this year
Maybe just avoid lgbtq stuff its just hell. I'm not religious but yeah, people complain about stuff they are guilty of. Just get out when you can.
I enjoy going to Pride, and I think its still necessary to have public expressions of lgbtq+ community. Its not great, but what else is there ?
I think the biggest problem is that pride events arouse a lot of envy in non lgbtq people. I wrote a whole dissertation about envy’s role in transphobia, and one piece of data from a transphobic twitter post that comes to mind is “you’ve got your whole month of pride”. I’m not lgbt, but my opinion is that I wouldn’t argue that pride events are inherently bad or should be removed, especially given how it is in reality inclusive but also there for a good reason, however I wonder what can be done to not arouse envy, as the hammer that sticks up gets hammered down, a bitch of human psychology
5:49 in this regard, Manchester Pride here in the U.K. must be named and shamed here, as well as Dublin Pride in Ireland - they are both engaging in this behaviour and they must be called out on it - it is totally unacceptable
Leeds Pride have been really bad for it too, and a bunch of LGBTQ+ offshoot groups are following the same mould. Furry scene has this problem even worse than the mainstream gay community.

I agree with some and disagree with other points. Those may be problems, but they’re smaller in comparison to the safety and joy that pride parades bring. It’s one day that everyone can be themselves out in the streets without fear of large persecution. Pride events are very important especially to show people, specifically younger queer people, that they’re not alone. That they’re not a normality and that there are older queer people out there, so they CAN make it past say 25. I understand your points but I genuinely believe that pride events help way more than they hurt. It’s just people being unafraid to be themselves. Venders are natural, and people always have to travel for events. Venders will always have another person that wants to use that spot. Money needs to be made to continue events. Corporate sponsors are very important to funding events. Not everyone has the money to make a pride parade. If the companies can spend more money, they deserve a booth to show that. I also fully disagree with the shirt you created because they’re making a pride parade. Decades ago, having a pride parade like this would be wonderful, and it still is. It takes a lot of guts to make a pride parade. I do understand that they need to pay their workers, that is true. However, only using LGBTQ+ performers would be nice, but there are kind allies as well.

I don't fully agree with being yourself at pride events. It's not the same experience when a good percent of the people keeping staring at you due to the fact that you are basically one of the few black people there.
Pride events are absolute shit show for the majority of queer people who are discriminated against by LG
This popped up in my "you should watch" tab. I used to work furry events (did it on and off for ten years). The parallels are incredible. The greed, organisers treating the event like it's all about them, giving their best friends (or people they want to impress) the best pitches... and whenever anyone speaks up or tries to do anything better, the smear campaigns start! It's like an episode of Mean Girls.
I really hope the LGBTQ+ scene can avoid the worst of it - and if not - at least break out of it sooner.
Around here I only go to our Peoples Pride event, the corporate one is just .... ick. The corp one gave the first parade float to a local bank who had an awful reputation in the gay scene. Loudest way to say you couldn't give a crap about the local community.

I live in Redding, California, so when I heard you talking about Reading Pride, I couldn't help but imagine you were talking about my local event. Of course, things are quite different. Heck, just demographically what you mention is a bit different. In Redding, we can be forgiven for having few vendors of color, since we're a nearly 80% white city. We're also in a conservative area, which kind of tracks with that (though mainly-white Arcata, off on the coast, is quite far to the left of the political spectrum, so small cities with primarily white populations don't always lean right wing). I mean, heck, we have the megachurch Bethel here, which may be a reason we're demographically quite homogenous. Goodness, I'm not a fan of Bethel.
If you’re located in Pennsylvania, I would ask if you do meet with any transgenders in public? It would be nice if me and you could get together with a group of people to discuss about today’s issues.

As an older Irish gay man living 22 years in the U.K. (Manchester) myself, I recall hearing older gay men (of my grandparents generation) discussing this very issue and related issues in my teens on the Dublin gay scene in the 1980’s and discussing these issues in the Irish gay press at that time via “letters to the editor” in the weeks after any gay pride event - and all the very things that they voiced their total opposition to and their warnings and predictions of what it would lead to, all coming to pass in our times many decades later - this rampant commercialism and consumerism has even seeped into the Non-Profit and voluntary sector of the LGBTQ+ community, including LGBT community centres, not just the usual gay owned and run bars and clubs, as well as straight corporate organisations, including but not limited to airlines, hijacking and devaluing our symbols like the rainbow flag and trying to make a fast buck out of everyone - it’s isolating and alienating for us as gay people, but more importantly, it’s encouraging homophobic hate, including by some extreme religious groups, which objectively speaking, is both strengthening and further enabling such homophobia and hate and in many cases, is objectively justified - I cut all ties with and support for the gay community 18 years ago and despite being raised a Vatican II Catholic in a little village in Rural Ireland, I became a traditional Catholic some years before supporting the Irish truth and patriot movement before Covid after 30 years in supermarket retailing at age 53 - the behaviour of the modern LGBT movement during Covid has been something that I regard as utterly disgusting and repulsive - it’s clear that at some point between the 1950’s and the 1990’s the gay rights movement has been infiltrated and hijacked by leftists and Marxists in pursuit of the globalist deep state agenda to bring about the Great Reset and Agenda 2030 “order out of chaos” and to destroy humanity as a whole, us gays included - I have extended family still living in Rural Ireland myself who are parents of very young children and when I even think of those children’s futures long after we are all gone, all I feel is a deep sense of heartbreak and sadness at what their lives will be like, as they will have none of the relative freedoms that we had growing up

Or just stop, there's literally no need for them. If you want to make other countries like lgbtq I don't think pride month is gonna make them care.
