Guys, I had a lot of lag and I tried everything but nothing was working. FINALLY I found the problem : the Larian launcher. When I start the game from steam, it will open the Larian launcher right ? And from that launcher you press play and the game starts. Well, don't know for others but this Larian launcher for me is laggy. And when I entered the game, I went back to the desktop and closed this Larian launcher. And THE GAME FINALLY WORKED PERFECTLY. hope it can help someone, I'm gonna inform the people with my experience.
this worked for me, thank you. i also turned off g-sync for my monitors which boosted my FPS as well!
You can also go into your BG3 folder/bin and create a shortcut of the vulkan or dx11 .exe to your desktop. This bypasses the Larian launcher. Cheers!
This worked for me also
Lol what. That breaks it for me. Laggy and screen tearing if i close it
Holy, thank you. Made a dramatic difference as of right now. W comment.
Tbh the only time bad performance started to annoy me was in Act 2 when I’m in Last Light Inn and Moonrise Towers area, but most of Act 3 runs terribly, the city area is very demanding.
Have you solved this issue? Same situation here too.
Same
Even eith a 4070 and i9 it'll stutter apparently its a know issue that they're trying to fix this upcoming patch. Said so in a ticket that was submitted
Same.
For me wyrm cross is where I seriously plummeted… fps dropped from not a problem to the 10’s
If you are getting stuttering in Baldur's Gate itself, try enabling Vsync Triplebuffering, even WITH G-Sync.
Yes it sounds counter intuitive, but it actually doesn't add input lag in this title and it seems to smooth out hitches and frame drops.
It won't give you more frames, but for me at least it stopped the drops and stutters.
It adds as much input lag in this game as it does any other. It's just that you don't mind the input lag in the game as none of the inputs are latency sensitive. All combat being turn based or non time sensitive in addition to all navigation. I find it preferable to just run an fps cap.
Actually you should be using Gsync and Vsync on in the Nvidia control panel, Vsync off in game, and low latency mode on ultra (if the game has reflex you can still keep it on and reflex will just override it since it is superior to LLM). Also apply a frame rate cap at least 3 below refresh rate for the lowest latency possible. It's changed now and this is the most updated method for the lowest latency :).
@@Jake-0011 what is the point if you have a g-sync monitor?
G-sync, is the same as v-sync, it just syncs to the monitor refresh rate to the fps instead of syncing the fps to the fixed monitor refresh
@Snicker433 it won't let me send the link so type "blurbusters 101 gsync input lag test control panel" into Google and it should be the second result. Explains it better than I ever could
@@Snicker433 vsync in the control panel will already queue frames more evenly even below the max fps where vsync fully kicks in. The way this comment describes you get the even queue but not the vsync delay as you're still capped below the threshold. Its the best setup for smoothness. so vsync evens your frames out and gsync syncs them to the monitor refresh rate.
Ran into some issues, like not playing the game until a new PC issues, but this helped smooth everything over AND the game still looks amazing. Big props. This is a legit 100% stellar video.
In act 3 my game dropped to like 20 fps at times even when I could run the other acts on ultra completely smooth. This helped a lot, went from near unplayable to smooth! Thank you so much!!
I hit 6 FPS on ultra and went to 'low' ... still 6 FPS... the game is a joke
@@OldManRogers Well after patch 2 I can actually go back to playing on ultra in act 3
I would still het high fps but I would get stutter, they're apparently aware of it and doing their best to fix it for the next patch.
This truly helped! I tried everything I could think of but this guide fixed my issues. Image quality is good and no more stuttering/lagging!
Just some quick notes from playing with the DLSS/DLAA settings. My GPU is a 3080 TI and my monitor is 3840x1600. AMD 5950X in a Windows 10 Virtual Machine on Proxmox. HAGS and game mode are enabled.
1. Enabling DLAA toggles DLSS off. This makes sense once you know what each is doing, but wasn't completely obvious to me. The hairs draped around my keyboard were pulled out trying to figure out why DLSS kept being turned off before watching the video here.
2. With performance settings matching the higher preset in this video, and no DLSS or DLAA, I get around 80-85% GPU utilization at the entrance to the Goblin priestess' temple. Frame rate is capped to 120hz/fps since that's my monitor's max and something outside of the game is enforcing that (which is fine for me).
3. Turning DLSS to Quality my GPU utilization goes to 65% ... DLSS Balanced is around 60% ... DLSS Performance around 55%. All look worse but Quality is SO close to native that I can accept the difference.
4. Switching to DLAA my GPU utilization goes from 95-99%
In all cases I'm still getting 120fps prior to capping frame rate. So it gives me some choices on lowering my GPU usage. Since it's summer ... yeah ... I'm going for DLSS Quality. Keeps my room cooler and minimizes my fan noise (bugs the crap out of me ... the Nvidia RTX 3080 TI Founder's cooler works well, looks good, but gets almost as noisy as a blower at 90% or more utilization even with an undervolt).
Once I picked DLSS Quality and capped FPS to 60, I'm seeing around 35% GPU utilization and my fans stay nice and quiet while the game looks very good.
This winter I'll switch to DLAA :)
Why exactly does does DLSS keep it around 60 but DLAA make it go up to the mid 90s?
@@evilchinchula DLSS requires additional cpu power to work well and if you are cpu limited it works fine but the itilization might not go high.
For me, FPS wasn't that much of a problem The problem was loading times and texture renderings.
Do you install the game on NVMe drive ? If not you should upgrade to NVMe
@@fikrifachrurozi2497 yes, Its installed on an M.2 SSD. I think the problem is my CPU its too weak. I have a Pentium Gold G6400. I didn't expect this game to be CPU intensive.
For me, its not FPS, loading times, or textures. BG3 makes my pc hotter than any game i’ve ever played.
@@blastofo for me it's loading times, textures AND super hot pc. i have no idea if it's my gpu or cpu ? maybe both. only game this happens too.
Thank you! Played throught the first two acts no problem, reached act 3 and the game became basically unplayble. After following this video it's back to looking and running great!
TYSVM for making a hand holding tutorial that literally shows & explains the steps. It makes a huge difference and helps me understand better. Thank you so much for making this. I just started this game, and I'm absolutely in live with it, but my computer is almost as old as me (not rly, I'm ancient lol) ty! 💜
Wow! I went from absolutely atrocious performance with so much stuttering to smooth as. This video helped alot.
Visual prioity is great for act 1 but then needs more perfomance in act 2 and even more in act 3
yeah act 3 is a dog
Please do a part 2 of this but in act 3 as this is where most people probably start looking for performance guides. Also show the closing launcher thing..
Ok my take on how to get steady fps in act 3..
5 steps.
1) turn off gsync in nvidia control panel if enabled.
2) set four framerate to 60 fps (tho less is fine if gpu still struggles)
3) enable full screen mode.
4) kill the launcher (alt tab out of game)
5) tweak stuff in this vid.
I wish I knew how to kill launcher on Mac OS
By the way guys, fog has to be set to high or greater if you’re playing on Vulkan. Otherwise you’ll get black square artifacts.
Hands down the best guide for FPS in BG3. This helped me boost to 120FPS steady. I was somehow dipping down to 20-30FPS somehow and just couldn't figure out what was going on. Did this whole thing and SOMETHING I did fixed it lol.
Are you in act 3 in baldurs gate? That’s where it dips to 30fps
@@NIGHTWINGEX Did it through Act 1. I made these changes, have done 2 playthroughs now, and haven't had issues ever since.
That being said, supposedly the game DOES have a memory leak. So after every 4 hours, I would recommend restarting the game.
120fps?
*inserts Ron Burgundy "I don't believe you" meme :D
@@luphoxcastl is the memory leak still active?
This, honestly, is incredible. My game STRUGGLED at less than 20 fps. Now, it runs really smoothly, even on my old graphics card.
whats your graphics card?
now this is a SOLID GUIDE ❤
Latest update improves performance, but has a chance of killing any GPU that isn’t top of the line. Be mindful of your GPU’s performance and adjust graphics quality accordingly. There are a number of Reddit and Steam threads on the subject.
This helped me so much. FPS dropped in a major way in Act 3. Thanks!!
Perfect guide mate, thank you for the assistance!
Thank you, Good Sir! Subscribed!
Larian Studios said FSR 2 is coming at the end of the month before the PS5 release.
It better fsr 1 is so trashhh on this one
Hey! I just want to say thabks so much! I did everything in your video and all the lag went away! It was driving me crazy, so Im happy to play in peace.
This helped my Act 3 experience SO MUCH. Thank you!
You made my game look great thanks!!!!
3 act my pc just wasnt taking anymore, this video saved it
FSR 1.0 looks horrible, it's even worse than lowering the game resolution (and you can use the sharpen filter).
FSR + TAA is so blurry that you can't see anything
It’s so trash they did amd dirty
Thanks for the guide. For me didn't work as I expected, I guess it's because of my CPU. But a tip that worked for me is to play the game with directx 11 and DLSS on quality. I'm getting a little more fps on this way and the game is more stable
i never leave comments on youtube videos but this one helped SO MUCH!! thank you!
With my low end I feared I couldnt play when a friend gifted me this game. I wa sso damn happy but the temps and overall performance wasnt rly that stable. Now it quite literally increased by a full on 80%, damn.
I'm impressed! Couldnt get past 30fps in my 2017 rig and now im going at 60~80fps in act 3 city. nice
The enjoyment of this game increased dramatically when I capped the fps to 30 and stopped worring about it.
I'm thinking about doing that... since the patch 2 my brand new computer is lagging (amd ryzen 7/ rtx 3060 enough ram etc)
Yes, I feel we are like the dragon chasing its tail! BG3 isn't even a twitch reaction game, its turned based, 30 fps is fine... although I admit I like watch this video to see how high my 1650 can go😀
Thank you so much! My game is looking a good!
Helps a lot,thanks man
so big things that helped me:
-dynamic crows off
-fsr settings
-frame cap
Act 1 and 2 are great but damn Act 3 totally kills performance.
just breezes over the ""optimized"" settings w/ no explanation
But these "optimized" settings are the most recommended ones, he explained all of them in every video, now he thinks there's no need for that, because everybody knows what each setting does...
This the most basic "optimized" set up in the history of the world. No explanation needed. Just follow the instructions. This guy got 100s of videos with way more advanced and in depth guides. If you're an enthusiast you'll gladly look them up. If you're a normie stick to the basics.
@@Sleepless4Life That's what I tried to explain tho...
@Sleepless4Life the people who use the word normie have never been laid.
@@digizilla164 Thx for confirming virgin! Maybe get laid before you reply.
My 1080ti has become very temperamental with BG3. 90 average but in any brightly lit crowded zone it absolutely chugs. Usually 4-12fps....
Great video mate, cheers
Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for this video! One thing I noticed is my GPU temperature rises much higher in this game than other games I play. Based on Reddit comments many other gamers have same issue. Any comments or suggestions on GPU temperature tips would be appreciated.
Also you can you go to the game launcher, go to the bottom left of it, and select the settings. Then go check the first box off. That help boost it like crazy lol
Legend panjno
Thanks! This really helped my game play and FPS!
thank you!
lol i set the frame rate to 60, when in reality all my issues were gone the moment i unlocked the frame rate cap. Thank you for this guide!
will definitely save this incase my gameplay drops in later areas. good advice
I would like to thank you for having gamers backs all these years with the great advice. Been following you for a long time !
Perfect guide, who so many dislikes it works like charm.
Thank you soooo much.
I went from 43-60ish - to 168 FPS!
You are Aces in my Book!
Great video!
Thanks for the vid. Not sure if it would help everyone, but what helped me was downgrading to an Nvidia driver under version 531. Before that I was having some extreme stuttering even on a 4090
Definitely should've done this test at the more laggier parts of the world like the inn or at the city.
Thank you. Thanks to you i can go to act 3 without problems. Thanks
Makes me laugh every single time when i see people adjusting Anistropic Filtering, this setting was a joke 20 years ago.
so its not worth to adjust it to max?
I love how all these videos have top of the line hardware where there are no bottlenecks
fu man, seriously. 4090 optimizations... try it to play on 1030GT
broke ass
Another way to achieve better visuals with better than TAA and DLSS antialiasing is by playing in 4K with Dynamic Super Resolution (can be activated in Nvidia drivers settings), and with DLSS enabled. Additionally some of you may want to try switch DLSS 2 dll to DLSS 3, but I didn't done any testing, so I dunno if this will have an impact on a frame rate
I'd refrain from DSR, performance hit not worth it. NIS better option. But I guess it just comes down to your setup.
do not switch from DLSS2 to 3 bec BG3 is not a DLSS3 game.
depends on gpu. worth it on a 4070ti@@Sleepless4Life
@@Jakiyyyyy
How's come?
Also, BG3 isn't an "online" game.
I have a hp laptop which is kind of old but well within the requirements for the game yet I get super low fps (3-5) and insane lag, any ideas of how to deal with that ?
Same problems here
just subscribed good content would you do a optimisation video for a lg oled 55 inch tv with a high end pc like i913900k and nvidia 4090
I'm playing on a system that is lower than the minimum requirements Steam recommends, I've got to the end of Act 2 and the FPS is plummeting. I had a comfy 30 FPS in Act1, but now it's at less than 10. Hoping some of these optimisations will let me get to the end of the game.
Did you manage to make it work ?
I'm not a computer whizz. But I've heard that the game has problems with memory leaks, and it sure feels that way. This means that the longer you play the choppier it will get. If you've played for a very long time and explored a bunch; you should probably save, exit the game, and reopen it. Happy adventuring! 🧙♂
seems to be the case for me, starts to get horrible stuttering after 2 hours-ish🥲
Now with the recent update opening up BG3 for Mac, any tips on getting a Mac with 16gb ram and a M1 chip to look as clean and run as smooth as possible?
Thanks Mate, Can't wait to try it out!
Great video.
Following your instructions step by step i went from 41fps to 71fps playing in 4k! Maintaining great visuals.
I have a 4k samsumg CU8000 TV and my pc specs are as follows: MOBO asrock a320m-HD, 16gb ram 2666hz, ryzen5 2600, rtx 3060ti.
i was a huge leamp in performance and now i don't miss my 1080p monitor anymore, tysm.
Bottleneck between my CPU and GPU is probably a fair share of the issue, but I got a i7 8700 and a 4070, everything on low settings but somehow it is still choppy when rendering in as I am tilting the camera close to the character, cutscenes are low resolution for 5-10 sec, and I get some subtle stutters randomly.
I will try these fixes and hope it does something, it's not gamebreaking for me at all but I would love to play this great title as smoothly as possible (excluding my terrible rolls in-game of course, they will always stay)
Update when you do it if you can! I have a 12700k and a 3070ti and having some issues in 1440p but I can't test this until I get home.
@@DjBrandenburg216 It seems to have increased performance by around 10% or so. I am playing on 1440p as well
@panjno Love these helpful guides! Would you please make one for Armored Core 6 please? Thanks a ton!
Holy fuck I went from 20 fps on my HDD Drive to 35 - 43 around that point which is now makes the game actually playable!
I will never understand people like you that play game on the most broken and old system...but still spend 100$ on a game. Upgrading your PC at some point, no?
@@TheElendix again I have EVERYTHING upgraded except I didn't know you needed an ssd driver for the game (since I bought it early access and back then it wasn't a requirement.) Though after getting out of the tutorial area my fps is now around 40 which is still playable, especially for a turn based game
But next thing I'm buying for my pc when I get the money for it is a really good ssd drive for the game
@@WillGlacierYou don't need an ssd, its just a marketing trick, hdds are still perfectly fine, don't listen to that guy, majority of people pirate games anyway, wouldn't pay 100 bucks for a game not even in a dream.
Dude, thank you so much for posting this. I was having terrible performance on my laptop, since I just set everything to low or off in hopes of getting good FPS. Now my game looks great and runs great, excellent video!
Is there a reason why you would do high performance power plan instead of ultimate performance?
Can you do this for Act III please and thank you because I had no problems with FPS during the first two Acts
You said you're using DLSS on quality at 4K native right, isn't it the same as playing at native 1080p w/o dlss ?
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Huge huge improvement 🎉❤
"Stop and copy the (sound bugs out) preset." So which side? Left or right? Otherwise a very clear, easy to follow video.
sheesh, my gt 950 is really being put to the test lol.
changing from vulcan to Dx11 before starting up the game can also help
thanks!
Thanks!
Whats your fps when you are in Baldurs Gate specifically the lower city. I have a 4080 and my fps barely stays past 50
But what do I do if i wanna improve my 1% lows? like I don't quite see the big difference between 60 and 100 fps, but I do see a major one when it dips to 20 instead of something like 40
I'm playing on an i5 4690, gtx 970, no ssd, and on medium/high settings it's quite stable at 60 fps with some drops to around 40, but in this type of game it's barely noticeable.
you got a 4690, with no ssd on medium/high and getting 60 fps most of the time, that just might mean that i can achive the same with my i7 4790s and ssd
@@MM22658 i think you'll be ok if you fiddle around with the graphics settings. To be honest, the game looks decent even on low/med. I keep hearing that the fps drops are worse in the later acts, so we'll see if it's still playable when I get there. Or maybe they'll patch the performance issues with an update soon.
i dont believe it, have you reached heavy/demanding locations like the goblin encampment? a loooot of stutters for me there (i3 10100f, 1660 super), baldurs gate itself probably gonna be unplayable

id definitely recommend limiting fps for gpu health
Thanks, this actually helped a lot.
Even with this vid's help my hp pavilion is still unable to get past the ship crash cutscene without booting me back to desktop drivers, processors, and all the check boxes ticked and still same result even tried a geforce sub didn't help at all
Great video but could you do another r6 fps boost video
can i run it with nvidia 740m? i am ok with stable 15 fps.
does this use less cpu?
I'm playing this on a RTX Quadro 4000 card. And while it suggest me playing at Ultra, BG3 even on low settings really does not enjoy running on MY 3D-CAD rig. LOL!
Haven't had issues with a game since 343i ported Reach on Steam for the first time, but even that hot resolved after an update shortly after. So I can't complain, got lucky enough till now.
EDIT - Update: The latest patch with the newest drivers solved the the issue. I can play on ultra fullHD with fairly stable 60 fps. Thanks Larian, you're wizards! 😎
I played the early acces version in full HD, settings was high, fps around 38. (1660Ti, i-5 6400, 16gb, Samsung 970 EVO plus). Can i play with the final version to with same settings?

Guys he is testing the starting zone, no real benchmark. He should go to a city and test it.. You become insanely cpu bound that there are 0 fps differences if you play on ultra or low, unless you have something like a 13900k. I have an i5 12400(much more than recommended) and i get down to 60 70fps in high crowd density areas on Vulkan, and i normally average around 100fps(up to 129 actually)
