    I once brought a small basket of four Black Mission figs at Whole Foods for an extraordinary price. I saved a bruised one and planted and I still have the plant to this day.

    One of the main reasons I've started growing figs is from watching videos like yours ben. In particular the tasting videos and watching your reactions when eating a really tasty fig!!

    Love the video layout, Ben! Best part, seeing all of those huge tropical looking fig leaves in the greenhouse.

    I grew up in a country where I could just drive up to the hills and pick figs off the trees in the wild. I did not know what the varieties were but they delicious and mostly looked like Genovese nero, Black Madeira, Paradiso bronze and there was some other white fig, which I was not extremely fond of. Now, the only way I can get fresh figs is by growing my own. I had no idea growing figs was so easy! I wish I had started much sooner. It's videos like yours that got me started. Thank you for that! :) It's disappointing that figs are not a popular fruit choice in all grocery stores!!

    I bought my first Fig Tree from Whole Foods last August. I grow that in a container. I just got a Violette De Bordeaux. I am growing that in a container also.
    Figs are also good for lowering blood pressure.

    Hi, just found your channel today. I also love figs. In California I used to be able to find fresh mission figs in season in some of the markets, but they were limited and went fast. I now live in northeast Texas and have started growing figs. I started with a brown turkey (mine is beautiful dark fruit with a ruby interior and tastes very sweet) and an LSU purple, but have ordered more varieties. I purchased my brown turkey on a whim from a local grocery market and am not sure if it really is a brown turkey, as the fruit doesn't look like some of the other brown turkeys I've seen (look more like the LSU tiger you're showing here) and they taste wonderful. I am currently looking at obtaining a black madeira. Being diabetic, figs are a fruit I can eat that doesn't make my blood sugar soar. Also, the leaves can make a tea that is healthful and will also help control blood sugar. Thank you for your videos. I have subscribed.

    I am in 7b... i have killed my 100 or so fig trees all the way back to the ground by putting pipe I nsulation on too early and leaving it on too late and they all moulded back to the ground two years in a row. This year, i plan on laying the branches down and lawn staples to hold them down while i put a layer of leaves 6" and then a layer of wood chips 6" to keep the leaves from blowing away. I don't want to lose another growing season chance for brebas.

    Also wanted to ask you if you have a favorite tasting fig? Do you have problems with ants getting the fruit. Here in northeast Texas, its a constant battle to keep the fire ants from eating the fruit and building their nest in the roots (not healthy for the tree). They also bite and sting. I'm currently binge watching your fig videos. Thanks for so much information and such profession videos.

      Kate Romer black Madeira is my favorite . The ants do come out in the summer but rain in the winter drowns them out.

      Try diatomaceous earth

    • @kater4052
      @kater4052 6 лет назад

      I've tried that, but we get too much rain for that here in northeast Texas. Our average is over 45 inches a year (some years nearly twice that) with much of that during the fig growing season. We've been trying to get our house painted for two years, but haven't had a long enough dry spell where it wasn't too cold to paint. Last two weeks we've had rain at least 6 days. I use tangle foot and bag the fruit, but ants seem to find a way to get into the fruit any way. I've tried orange oil, dawn soap, DE, vinegar, orange peels, splenda, sweet n low, corn meal, etc. but still the battle wages on and I feel I'm loosing. No matter what I try, even if it seems I get rid of them, they're back within just a day or two.

    ive only been to restoring eden...and, why do you weigh them? so many questions.. the ones in the pot did you have them in the greenhouse first, and when did you bring them outside, i guess when it got warm !

    Hi Ben, I live in southern California and I just purchased an Olympian fig tree from Lowes. Should I take extra precaution in planting the Olympian fig tree in the ground during this time of the year? If yes, what precautions should I take in making sure that the tree can grow on its own. In other videos, I see people placing a fabric over the tree to protect it from the sun. I'm really new, but would love to see this tree grow strong and healthy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I saw your video on grafting Bl. Maderia to DK and wanted to know how it went? Is the Bl. Maderia performing better or different on the other rootstock? I was planning to do the same with the Bl. Maderia on DK, Stella and Yellow Longneck. What are your thoughts? I'm in BC . zone 7 a or b .

      There's the collecting aspect and the online fig community is quite strong. Can't really convince someone to like the hobby. But i generally just give a free tree to them and that works to spark some interest in the hobby
