I make Turkish green fig preserve which is delish, but ripe figs are the goal and I was so jealous listening to you eat your figs. My tree sets fruit really late. I'm off to snap the tops off now. Great video! I have some figs on my trees that I don't think are going to get ripe before the first frost. I think I will try taking the smaller ones off. It's hard to get too many figs when you're in zone 5!
It's not just about the taste of the fig but getting as menny of the nutrients into the fruit as possible. That is why I have all my plants in the ground. PS I'm thinking of mulching my figs next year with bamboo chips what do you think is it a good idea? .
cool! I have one growing in my back yard. im not sure what kind of figs they are. its light greenish then turns yellow. ive tried picking them before the birds get it.. barley has any taste, slightly sugary.. whats the best way to ripen after picking?

I Bought my first fresh figs from the grocery store today. They are brown turkey fig’s. How do I know if they are ripe? I tried one and it tasted terrible.
Fun video but to be brutally honest, Ben's taste test is completely worthless. Unless greenhouse ripened and sun ripened figs of the same cultivar and preferably from same tree or clones from the same mother tree are tasted side by side at the same time the test is WORTHLESS. Side by side or "paired comparison" testing when evaluating taste is the only way to get reliable and meaningful results. I am not disputing his findings and it may well be that sun ripened figs will taste better than greenhouse ripened figs but this test as Ben conducted it, again is worthless.

in ground ripened figs taste much better than in pots from my experience.

My brown turk ey fig set a record so far this year weigh 108 gram. Last year 102 gram. I don't know how to, otherwise I will attach a photo.
