    The cleans on the 800 sound weak in comparison with the DSL but when it comes to crunch I think the 800 really nails that hairy 80s rock tone! The DSL has more of that modern soldano saturated sound.

    The JCM sounded just as brutal as the DSL only a little better, but idk if that justifies it being more than twice the price.

    I’ve tried an 800 it was great, then I found a DSL20 for a steal. Once dialed in it’s actually way better than its $300 price even at low volumes. I tried an SV20H that was brutally loud. All of these you need to fine tune with each guitar.

  • @Dsauce128
    @Dsauce128 3 месяца назад +1

    it comes down to how much money you have to spend. Trust me the DSL literally sounds just as good as the expensive ones. Ive played them all and that $1000 difference is not really worth it playabilty wise unless you have the money then go for it because they are cool vintage style amps but the DSL will do just as good of a job.

    The Marshall dsl 20 cr was remarkably good and I couldn’t tell much of a difference between the two. The dsl wins hands down due to the sc being brutally loud and three times the price. No contest. The dsl is in fact a true Marshall.

  • @KahnuevsKrake
    @KahnuevsKrake 8 месяцев назад +1

    The DSL20 is great, I still stand by that. But I treated myself to an SC20 and sold the former onto a new owner.
    The SC20 is an AMAZING amp. It's not what you call "high gain" when you compare it to a Mesa Boogie for example, but it's that ballsy, classic, 80's hard rock sound. Nothing wrong with the DSL20, but my PRS MT15 is my favourite high gain amp which already filled those shoes for me, and I wanted a more "classic rock" kind of amp to compliment it.

  • @12breacher82
    @12breacher82 4 года назад +2

    Both need a boost or OD bad. I was not impressed playing in person. Beyond loose and flubby no matter how I dialed it. With a strong OD the SC was descent. It really sounded awesome with a distortion pedal.

    I had the dsl20 head for a while recently and gigged a 2204 for years previous to that. The dsl was harsh at low volume and was harsh but louder at gig level. The 2204 was harsh at low volume and absolutely glorious when turned up. The little transformers are the difference and the problem. I hear that same unpleasant tone in the studio classic. I've just bought another 2204!

I freaking love my DSL and when I heard this video I was almost cringing trying to figure out how they got the hi gain to sound so bad.

    Thanks for the review!! Much appreciated!! Were you running these in 20W mode??
    For my taste its jcm800 all the way... but my question is... can you get a screaming sound out of the basic amp without blowing the windows out of the house??? Is this strictly a gigging amp or can it be used in a 15’x15’ room without attenuating or sounding weak?
    Thanks again?

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  5 лет назад +2

      I'm pretty sure we had both amps on full power for the cleans and both on the lower power for the drives...its a pretty loud amp...you can get some usable volumes out of it in the low power settings but all up its pretty loud for 20w. I think the low power mode sounds just as good as the full power mode...we really didn't notice any difference in the tone...as in it never sounded thin or weak...we might just do a video on how loud these amps are in the room
