    • @TheDeinonychus
      @TheDeinonychus 3 года назад +3

      @@ryanmann9842 True, but a large reason for Hannibal's defeat was he had no support from Carthage. The bulk of his forces were made up of local Ghalic tribes who had been oppressed by Rome already, and still he managed to do that much damage. It wasn't till the end of his campaign that the Carthagean leaders decided to support him, but by then Rome had finally started taking the threat of Hannibal seriously, and had organized a large enough force with a competent leader to actually oppose him.

      The format of the joke was no utilized effectively. Maybe it should've mention the alps.
      Rome: Carthage can't hit us (dominating both sea and land during second punic)
      Hannibal: "hold my wine"
      You're right about Hannibal not getting support because the leadership of the empire feared the wrath of Rome after losing thr first time. Furthermore, they no long dominated the sea (Roman's suck at navy but unironically invented the corvus, boarding bridges and proceed to slaughter crews). So when Hannibal proceeded to sack Italia the nobles/leadership realized, "OH sh*t! He's actually doing it."
      Hannibal basically did a 1 v nation with an army comprised of loyal retinue and elephant (pre-alps) from Spain he marched to Rome on land and started to recruit or encourage Guallic/Gaelic forces into joining (especially post-alps). Massalia noticed that a huge army is matching towards them. Rome scoff saying they can't pass the alps. Massalia gets hit, and enemy passes through Alps. That is when the Celtics actually joined him because northern Italy was dominated by this group and wanted freedom.

    While this might not seem like a big deal. It should be noted in two separate wars (the American revolution and the war of 1812) American privateers actually proved more effective in disrupting British naval and trade movements than the U.S. navy ever did.

Homefront was loosely tied into the Red Dawn remake although I believe they scrapped that idea. Homefront deals with a North Korean invasion of the US with you fighting as guerilla fighters. Homefront actually predicted Kim Jong-Il's death. Its sequel Homefront the Revolution is more of a reboot and alternate timeline where North Korea experienced an economic boom following the Korean War. The original movie also had a tie-in book titled Homefront: The Voice of Freedom and is an excellent read.

    Even if, hypothetically, an enemy military could get a foothold on mainland US and defeat the US military, they'd never be able to actually hold the country. There was reportedly a debate among Japanese generals during WW2 about the possibility of a large-scale invasion of the US mainland. They decided that even if it was possible to make landfall, there would be a rifle hiding being every bush waiting for them. Militias and an armed population would make any occupation of the US so costly it just wouldn't be worth the attempt. Of course, that's not to say things haven't changed since then, what with certain group wanting to restrict gun ownership more and more, but you still have a very large portion of the population armed in the US. Not even taking into account an armed police force who could be drafted into a defense as well.
