i quite enjoy my v7 blade. im a 4.0 player with long fast strokes. for me it lacked a little power so i just added a little lead tape at the tip and it helped a lot. great on serves. stable on volleys. thanks for your videos!
I have almost always played with a Head Radical Pro. To this day, I still love that racquet. One night, a friend of mine let me hit with his Blade v7 16x19. I figured I'd give it a shot since the specs are not too different. I could not get over how clean and buttery it felt! There was a big difference in feel and sound. I fell in love with it instantly. I could put the ball wherever I wanted and had many more aces than I normally do. I can agree with you when you say that this racquet is not for everyone but, I think you should have named the video differently to "What is wrong with the players' technique who don't like this racquet" or "What types of players are using the blade" seeing that there is nothing wrong with the racquet itself. I'd say for sure that this is a big improvement from the v6 Countervail. This frame is for advanced players seeing that it is a control racquet. Players hitting with this Blade v7 need to generate most of their own power. I'm a 5.0 player, USPTA certified, and could not be more content with my switch. I liked it so much, I bought 3 of them. Again, this is my opinion and I want you to know that I absolutely love this channel. You asked for an honest opinion and this is mine. The best way to see if a racquet is for you or not is to take it out and demo with it. This Blade v7 is NOT for everyone. Even if a player knows how to use it, they may not like how it feels and sounds. This blade is very different from the v5 that everyone loves but, that doesn't mean there's something wrong with the v7. Racquets evolve. Were it not so, we'd still be hitting with wooden sticks. I'm sure when other racquet technologies were introduced back in the day, certain players said that they didn't like it and that they miss the stuff they are used to. Tennis just happens to be an ever-evolving sport. I strongly believe that Wilson is going somewhere with their newer technologies that have been put into the Clash and the Blade. I will continue to hit with my Blade v7 for a while as it meets my style and preferences. I just hope no one gets talked out of demoing this racquet due to what others are saying. I have only heard great things about it so far and will continue to spread the word. Give it a shot! You might just fall in love with it.
I am a 4.5. I was using v6 love it. Then got tempted and switched to V7 and wouldn’t go back. It does have the clash technology and feel so different from many rackets. I thought that it is so easy to move from v6 to v7. Similar feel but lots more power.
Im a 4.5 player and I've played with the v5, 6, and 7 blades. I tried the 6 and I hated it cuz it felt like mush and I couldnt feel anything when I struck the ball. I then played with the 5 and it felt pretty boardy too me. It was ok and I could play with it but it wasnt the best. I am currently playing with the v7 and so far its very nice. Very soft but still has a nice feel.
I LOVE the Blade v7 18x20!!! An outstanding racket, nicely low powered, great control, very good if you have a full & fast swing! If you don't have a full & fast swing, it's probably not the perfect choice... (I play with Luxilon 4G Soft with 23/22kg - 50/48 lbs tension)
@Bertone Beta I playtested both strings side by side (I've got three Blades) with the same tension, I have tho say it's not much of a diffrerence, so I use the more comfortable one. (Keep in mind that the 4G Soft has about the same stiffness as the regular Alu Power, even though it feels much softer!)
That's pretty insane how people are not liking the new Blade 98. I have the 18x20 version and love it. I actually like the CV version, too, because of both the CV and the V7 superior playability compared to the previous Blade 98's. The feel may be a bit muted or soft, but the overall playability is one of the best in the market. Just string it up with 17G poly at 50lbs. There will be plenty of feel. BTW, the V7 produces some incredible sounds when making contact. It's really nice.
Sry, I know I’m a little late.. but can you explain a bit how it felt - switching from a pure drive to a blade? (Since the pure drive is quite powerful) I’m currently using the last gen Pure drive (the baby blue one from 2018) and from time to time I’m missing control and feel, which makes it hard for me to swing out with confidence.
@@MrNoouu blade is more flexible. i can use poly string with no tennis elbow. i could not do that with the pure drive. blade has less power and more control.
@@kellygraves8146 hi bro what about now I just wanna buy a new racket now? And the tennis dealer is giving me a great price on this racket should I buy this?
@@yotubepavit4544 I have actually moved back from the Blade to the Pure Drive, but to the 2021 Pure Drive. The 2021 version is easier on the arm than the previous model. So I get the power back that I lost when switching to Blade, and no tennis elbow even with Poly. 2021 Pure Drive the way to go (for me specifically.)
You should do a Comparaison video between Blade BLX 2015 V5 and New Blade V8. I'm curious to know if that V8 is worth or still Muted, soft like previous gen.
I myself just finished an eBay quest and acquired two 2015 blades 16 x 19. Coming from playing with the prestige tour I am now playing at least 2 times better with the blades. I have tried the V6 and it was mush. I’m using a soft co-poly in the V5 and it is absolutely sublime. I am a 4.5 and all I want is feel without too much crispness from a frame and I think my journey ends with the V5 as I have found it.
Used to play with the blx version years ago, then switched to the blx prostaff six one 100. The feel was great for me in my late teens, just wanted a lighter racket when switching. It seems this new blade is something I might like!
Played with a Blade BLX 98 18x20 (v3), and it felt great, but upgraded to the Blade 98 CV 18x20 (v6). I hated the CV. So, I tried the Clash tour on a whim, and I liked the flex technology. So when they created the Blade 98 v7 16x19, I gave it a try and it felt like the perfect marriage between the clash and blade. I have the stability of the blade with the soft flex of the clash. I love it. Even sold all my previous blades and clash.
@@andrearodondi3926 Thanks. Did you try out the 18x20 as well? If I recall correctly, the BLX is 18x20, not sure if there are more than version of that to.
I love this racket lol it has such a nice feel, I went from v5 to v7, the v7 has better feeling more comfortable. The v5 had more crisp feel to it, and not as comfortable. Also the balance was slightly different Update: I started using the v6 with no countervail and I can’t go back to using the v7 now... the v7 feels too soft and it feels like I’m missing some plow through even tho my v7 has higher swing weight...I don’t understand, just feels like v7 has lower power/pop compared to my v6 now. Maybe I just got so used to the v6 that I can’t go back to v7.
Can you tell me more about the v6.5 non countervail? How does it compare to v5? Is it harder on the arm? I’m a happy v7 user that is very interested in the v6.5
Somehow came across your videos and must say loving them, a fresh perspective into products with non-commercial oriented reviews, please provide more insights based on your experience on new racquets, strings, customizations etc... Regarding this one, its a total disappointment for me unfortunately. Used to play with 2015 version but with sensitive elbow switched to more flex rackets (58-62 RA, Vcore 95 is my main racket now) and was very excited when this one came out. I can't demo rackets so I bought a slightl;y used one online, however: paint was already chipping; specs were off majorly; to make it headlight, I had to put additional weight into handle on top of putting a leathergrip and it became it heavy; and there was little feel even with a poly string - I would order another one online but not sure what I will get then (similar to your other video)
Can I ask what strings you use and the tension? I want everything to be around neutral. Was thinking since it’s got a low RA Rating with tight 18x20 string bed that I should use a poly with lower tension but just not sure how low to go . Cheers
As someone that has been played 28 years, went on to Teach the game in my 20's I understand what players mean by the bad feel of later generations of blade racquets. The blade became a "classic" frame. The original ncode NBlade just has tremendous feel that I cant find in other racquets. I have been ask why I change frames. I simply don't have the time to demo new racquet because I don't play nearly as much as I once did. Because I don't play as much learning a new racquet is a high value because I feel so connected to the NBlade. I have 3 NBlade frames.
I, too, have 4 nBlade 98 18x20 frames. The nFoam inside the frame makes it one of the most plush feeling racquets of all time and my personal favorite. I've tried every Blade since the nBlade (circa 2005 v1.0) and none come close until the v7.0, which is a bit less plush than the original Blade. I'm looking forward to trying v8.0 soon.
The V6 was soft but nice. Thé countervail was effective, very soft on the arm but the racket was a tad too heavy in the head for me so a little bit demanding when a match was lasting more then usual and that's why I finaly get rid of them. The V7 is still comfortable, lighter in the head (32 cm instead of 32.5) I like it a lot. Those modifications are what I wanted Wilson to make. 👍🏻
I am a blade user and college tennis coach. I have used the blade ever since the KBlade version and everyone of the versions has been great until the countervail. I tried it and it felt muddy in feel despite any string or tension adjustment. I definitely agree with the Racquet full of dampeners idea. I have not been able to try the v7 but am honestly turned off of even trying it. If it had clash technology it is Truly not a players racquet. Besides the Pro staff line, the blade was inspired and truly supposed to be close to a Prostock stiffness and playing feel...
I am a 4.0-4.5 player in my early 50's who grew up playing in the 90's. I have tried the 2015 version Blade 98 16 x 19 as well as the Countevail and v7 versions in the same string pattern. I can tell you that right off the bat I hated the Countervail version as it felt too stiff and the sweet spot was too small IMO. I played with the 2015 version Blade for about a year. I found it to have good feel, decent power and good comfort. The control was ok as well and the spin production was average. What I didn't like was the balance as it was too tip heavy and the SW was a bit too high. But as far as the playability it was good racquet. It was more the balance that made me switch to another racquet. When the V7 Blade came out and I saw the RA of 62 a light bulb went off and I bought one right of way! In terms of the overall playability, I like the V7 the best. The reasons have to do with the soft plush feel, fantastic ball pocketing and the comfort really stand out for me. The power level is a little low but there is enough mass due to the healthy SW in the high 320's to get some decent pop with a full swing. The V7 version is a demanding frame where you need good footwork and to stay on the gas consistently to tap its full potential. Out of all Blades, I like the V7 the best! I also compared it side by side with the Clash 98 and felt that the Clash lacked the feel and the sweet spot was quite small. IMO the Blade V7 has a better sweet spot and hits a heavier ball than the Clash 98. I can see why the younger plays don't like the feel of the V7 Blade due to the soft feel. I grew up playing with thin flexible beams in the 90's. The young guys who want the easy power will not like the Blade v7. However, power players looking for control could try playing with a stiffer poly to get firmer feel and the control. IMO the V7 Blade plays more like an old school racquet than a modern one. I personally prefer the plush feel and I do have some shoulder and elbow issues. I use a basic Gosen Synthetic 16 string with a tension in the lower to mid fifties range and get nice feel, pop, control, spin and the comfort. For players 5.0 and above, additional weight is needed on the hoop for better stability. The lower flex will sacrifice some stability for really big hitting players. Overall, IMO did a spectacular job on the V7 Blade. The trend towards lower flex racquets is on the rise. The Blade does play like a racquet with a RA around 60. Lastly, this racquet is geared towards players 4.0 and above who have good stroke mechanics to get the full potential. Great frame by Wilson!
Exactly, well said. It is a great combo of old and new, made for advanced attacking players. There is nothing wrong with the Blade if you're good enough and if you're an attacking style player. For its weight class it is great.
I tested all the Clash rackets and the Blade 100L v7.0. I feel that the new concept for softer and easy to swing with rackets from Wilson is for amateur players with intermediate skills. All these softer rackets play great even for a tennis trainer. Actually, when I tested the new Wilson Ultra, both 300g 100 and 280g 100L version, I liked the lighter frame much more. Both balanced 320 mm. It seems to me, that the new concept of more flexible frames suits best for lighter frames around 280-290 grams. Heavier frames feel even more muted, less lively and without much feel. For a competitive player, it can be really hard these days go for these new frames, because you lose lots of feel in change for comfort and stability. From all of the latest frames I like the most Babolat Pure Strike 98 18x20 2020 and the latest Head Graphene 360+ Speed PRO. The Djokovic racket is definitely my choice for solid competitive play. Don't forget that strings make at least 50% performance of the racket and you can adjust lots of the frames flaws by finding proper string with proper tension settings.
I was playing with the pure drive and bought the Blade 98 V7 version, oh man!!! it felt like hitting with a piece of rubber, no feel at all and just too soft for me! I luckily found a buyer in my club who was happy to get it for half price! :-)... yeah who wouldn't!
I 4 nBlade 98 18x20 frames (Blade v1.0 in 2005) and it is my favorite frame of all time. The nFoam inside the nBlade makes it one of the most plush feeling racquets of all time. I've tried every Blade since the nBlade and none come close until the v7.0, which is a bit less plush than the original Blade. I purchased one v7.0 from Wilson Custom Works and I'm looking forward to trying v8.0 soon.
My racquet history: Yonex RQ-310, Yonex RQ-380, Yonex Super RQ-500, Wilson Hammer 4.0, Wilson N-Code N-blade 106 with lead tape at 12'O clock and Alu rough. Still my current frame. I went to a Wilson racquet demo party in nyc and all the racquets felt dead compared to nblade. The only racquet that was remotely close to the feel of nblade was the all black Federer frame. I feel the foam they sprayed inside the nblade gives it a firm feel at contact. When I first demo the NBlade the best part of the experience was my mind wanted to place the ball In a specific part of the court and the NBlade responded and the ball was in that part of the court. The NBlade has beautiful feel. The only other racquet with the same level of feel maybe even slightly better is the Dunlop max 200 grand.
I have the v7 18m and enjoy it. My experience with the Blade line is limited withe the all black BLX 93/Mid. My recent go-to racquets in no particular order; Angell TC95 16m 63 RA, Pro Kennex Type C Redondo MP, Technifibre TF40, Head iPrestige. I wanted to share that to maybe give insight as to what player might like the v7 according to their racquet history. What I liked about the v7 was that it had a good amount of plow with it being in a lighter/less demanding package. I have been stringing it between 43-45# with a textured poly mains/smooth poly crosses. I have it with a leather grip. I have a couple tennis buds that says it's a nice racquet and they enjoyed it BUT if I ever get a chance to hit with the 2015 (i believe that is the one you have in the video) to give that a try and is said to be their favorite Blade edition. I had the Clash 98 for a short time. While I appreciated the extra power/spin and forgiveness, there was something about the racquet that didn't click. Maybe it was the string bed or needed some modifications. In terms of the CV tech, a coach I work with has the Red/Black RF97A and really enjoys it. Upon renewal of his Wilson Coaching relationship, he got the all black version and said the feel was different and pref the red/black. He doesn't use a dampener as well. On a side note, I took the butt cap off of the blade v7. One appeared to have a traditional hairpin. The other had a diamond shape hairpin. Both were hitting the scales and balance board the same. I haven't hit with them back to back with the same strings/tension but they seemed to play the same. I will try that next time out with the same strings. Wondering if you have noticed any hairpin shape differences. I have been told that it could be made in a different factory...or a possible fake. Appreciate your videos!
You sound like my buddy Andy who is a connoisseur of rackets. He has all the rackets you have. He is always looking for the next great thing and always searching for Excalibur. He played with the v7 for 2 months and the more he played with it, the less he liked it. The 2015 blades have solid old fashion racket feel with no dampening features. You feel everything. It was nice. I have not noticed the buttcap differences in the v7. Usually fakes are way off weight and balance. There is only one factory now. Only thing I can think of is different batches using different buttcaps. About your coaches RF97, the red and black definitely has more feel. The black ones of the RF never got the CV but the Black mate finish paint muted the racket and dampened it. Thanks for watching!
This video read my mind about the recent blades. I only like the kblade and 2013 blade (black colored). The beam or hoop is Stiff enough for direct connection especially when I’m on the run and I need to crank a big shot to turn defense into offense. It's tough when the same line of rackets change dramatically over the years. I wish the old ones were re-released. Great video.
The consensus on tennis warehouse forum seems to be that the countervail was the worst blade of all time. I agree. It was like hitting with a brick. Quality control was even worse too for some reason. I'm still using the 2013 version (black and silver Tsitsipas version) which is widely debated as the goat with the 2015. The good news is people are saying that the v7 is an improvement.
Wilson CV works well on their most stiff racquets. I have an ultra 100 CV and a burn 100s cv. Both are fine. Good power, feel, ball pocketing, touch on volleys. I also have a 2015 blade 98s (very underrated stick) and a 2015 blade 18x20 and a 2013 blade 18x20. All are very good. The 2013 is the most plush. The 2015 18x20 is, to me, have what I would call the classic blade feel. I had a 2015 blade 16x19, but for some reason it was a rocket launcher and I couldn't keep the ball in at all. The 2015 98s has an even balance and a wierd 18x19 pattern, but it's actually my fave of the bunch because it really provides that elusive contradiction of controlled power. The even balance makes it a little head heavy, but not so much as to adversely affect manuerability. I think the closest modern stick would be the technifibre tf40 305 (on paper). I will now demo the v7 blade 18x20. Maybe I'm just a low level rec player, but I like the more feeling plush feeling racquets. I think they give me more control and the more muted feel let's me swing full without hitting the ball out.
Could you make a video talking about those rackets you mentioned at the end of this video? Maybe do a comparison of them with the blade? For example, pure strike, pro staff, ezone (maybe?)
I'm looking to buy my first racquet, and Blade 98 V7 18 x 20 is my choice cuz I like the look of it, and is within my budget range, but also looking at a RF Pro Staff 97UL 16 x 19 , which one should I buy?
Funny because I'm not a Wilson guy but I love the 18x20 version of this. It is a bit muted compared with the Volkl C-10 Pro and Yonex VCore Pro 97 I've been hitting with, but there's still enough feel and it hits with great precision. In fact, I've switched over to it full-time and am using a Wilson for the first time in 25 years! I think you can tweak it to get more responsiveness. Use strings that aren't particularly soft because soft multifilaments will dampen the feel, and then add a leather grip. It's enough response to feel connected and then swing away! Unfortunately/fortunately I've never used prior versions. I am curious, but I'm worried trying them would cause me to like v.7 less!
I’ m a tournament player 4.5 ITR. So not a champion 😔😉. But I’ve tested all the Blade ..all. I’m sorry but for me, the V7 18x20 is fantastic. Always bern a Prestige player. Now I’m using a T-fight LTD main 16 with lead and silicon....but I think, after coronavirus, I will switch to the Blade V7
I demoed this Blade and it is the worst racket I’ve hit with in recent history ... It may have been the poly that it was strung with, but without a dampener there was this really jarring low frequency vibration... I put a dampener on and then it just had no feel. I had trouble controlling the ball too, not sure if it was the balance of the racket with the weight... As a reference I’ve been hitting with a liquidmetal radical for the past 10+ years and that is the type of racket that I prefer. I was hoping the Blade would be similar because spec-wise it’s not all that different I did really like the countervail version that I tried a few years back. I felt that that one felt very similar to my radical. If you want to steer people towards something modern I’d suggest the pro staff v13... I really liked that one. I think weight wise it’s not too far off, maybe a bit heavier but the swing weight is similar.
Have the CV Blade 98 v6 and have played with them for about 3 years, having swapped from a 98s (was. junior at the time). Just found a website stocking the v5 Blades and am going back to them
Mike here, I have 2 of the v6 Blade 98l which, from what I have reserched, doesn't have 'countervail' in it although it looks the same. I added a some lead at 12 o'clk and they play like a dream.
well, I was playing with Pro Staff 97 SL 16x18 pattern 53lbs volkl cyclone or tour but always felt I had to make an extra effort to put a maxed out top spin on to keep the hits in, otherwise my shots were flying like rockets. So, now I switched to the Blade 98 v7 18x20, strung it with volkl cyclone tour 17G 48lbs and crikey! My hits are staying on court without a need to spin the hits like a monkey. I love this racket and I love the lower launching angle. My single back handers are landing behind the line even if I close my eyes and swing the racket with maxed out power. Just loving it! The 16x19 is for the weak wimps! There is such a small difference between the 16x19 and 18x20 pattern, honestly no idea why it created such a massive topic. If you are not weak to generate a decent power, if you often hit the ball long than go with the 18x20 and if you are weak, if you have a double handed back hand shot then you probably hit weaker back hand therefore you need more power so go with the 16x19. End of
I play with the v6 18x20, I found great that stick, I my opinion the feel is there but a bit muted, but with a leather grip it’s fine, put some lead in head to bump the swingweight and that’s it
thought I found the holy grail with the Dunlop CX 200 Tour 16 X 19 dampened control racquet weighted up, injured my shoulder (not tennis related) with inured shoulder looked for a lighter racquet tried a Blade 98 V7 and just found it to be easier to use more dampened solid racquet even in stock form the grip is perfect just feels great to play with. I think my new two handed back hand is better with the Dunlop but as all round racquet love the V7 still like the Dunlop but the V7 racquet is much more forgiving and grip fits me better. Great racquet I chose the CX tour over prior Blade CV vers but this new blade is much better
Hei there!, recommend them the Tecnifibre TF40, it's the most similar new racquect to the Blade 98 2015 (v5) 18x20, for the 16x19 lovers the Babolat Strike is a goog replacement.
I currently use the v6 blade. I have tried an 18x20 blx blade, and the v7. I really loved the blx because I was able to feel the ball much more than v6 and it felt a bit more crisp on impact. The v7 is really nice, but it has a different feel to it. Doesn't have as much pop, and the feelflex gives a very different and unique feel compared to previous ones. I like them both, but they are pretty different from each other imo. I would take either one of those over the cv because it so muted that touch shots become hard :/
Say that to my arm that can now play tennis again 7 days a week without any pain. The v7 isn’t just good it’s 🐐 like, the folks that are complaining, I mean come on, unbelievable
The reason people love the racquet is because it is the clash rebranded which many people love. I play wit vcore 95 16 by 20. Love it is is buttery smooth
Mate, I played with all 3 and I found the new v7 amazing. More feel, more pop and swings nicer. I hit a heavier ball with more spin with head lynx edge strings.
I loved the feel of the BLX version and was using the version 5 for the longest time possible i was actually in need of those old sticks i didn’t find and ended up buying the Version 6 which was the having no feel and was having a muted feel in it and blade was a home run for Wilson and they actually messed it up ! 😬
Blade v7 98 18x20 and 16x19 are future classics, great racquets in that weight class, 8.8/10. They will be resold on ebay on a massive scale. Wilson will make prostock frames based on them for pro players, 320g and up. Absolutely nothing wrong with Blade v7 except that they are low powered, which is a plus for advanced attacking style players who crush the ball, and a minus if you're not good enough. You always have to hit clearly in front of the body and have proper technique and very fast swings. Very precise, stable but forgiving, exactly what they should be, a rare combo to have. They are made for top attacking style juniors, and then everybody else. It is truly a shame that Wilson doesn't make them in 320-325g versions, say "Blade Pro" or something.
I knew it it’s basically the same racquet but with a bunch of dampeners. I literally have the serena Williams autograph v7 and also had her previous version. When I got her new one on Christmas. When I was eager to try it out something was wrong. Like literally I liked the feel of the older one better bc I could tell if I hit a bad shot or not. I was thinking to myself it’s Serena’s autograph she uses this racquet so it must be good. Then she switched her damn racquet in Auckland and is using a serena prototype in the matter of a couple month’s. Wasted 250 for nothing. I was like forget this and bought a vintage blade from like 2014 or 13 and never went back.
You do know she does not actually use those racquets sold to the public, right? The companies paint certain rackets to market them so the tennis community will buy them. But good for you that you found something you like.
My tennis level is 3.0 and recently bought the Blade 100L. Should I add some lead tape to the racquet? And where should I add it? Is it okay to add lead tape to multiple areas on the racquet?
I’ve been playing with the yonex dr ezone 98 for a couple of years and love it. This is my racquet of choice because of its low stiffness. Had 2 shoulder surgeries. I’m 44 years old. I’m thiking to change into blade v7 16x19. Is it a smart change?
Did you switch the the Blade V7 16x 19? I am currently playing with the Yonex Ezone DR 98 and am starting to develop some elbow issues. Was looking into this racquet as well.
Hey i am also a Fan of the old Blade v6 and v5 and v4. I tried the v7 16x19 and I hated it. But I really like the 18x20 one. I don’t know what is special about the 18x20 but it is much better in the v7. Normally I play the v6 16x19
2015 blade is one of the best for sure, but I actually think V7 did pretty good. It is softer but the feel is there and I don't lose too much power because of the higher SW. I don't like soft frames in general but I quite like the blade V7. I hated the clash though, feel like its too flexible to be consistent. Blade V7 is okay. CV one is horrible though. I couldn't feel the ball at all as I remembered and I was not the only one. I'm a 25 years old 4.5 baseline player.
I don’t know who is complaining about Blade v7. If you go to TW customer feedback you will see dozens of positive comments, mostly from pretty advanced players. I love it too. Laser gun with a feel. Makes you play a better tennis because it will not give any power or spin free, but for those with a decent technique, it is a super frame - feel, precision, maneuverability and controllable power and spin.
The reviews on the V7 16x19 blade can vary. I've heard many people saying how it's a bit of a rocket launcher and not as stable as the 18x20 version, along with the feel resembling hitting with a tree trunk injected with novocaine. I agree with these observations and am much happier with the 18x20, although it can be a bit hard to maneuver for those who aren't conditioned to using a more head-heavy stick.
You don't need the last version of racquets, at least you can try it, but is not necessary buy it every year. I still play with BLX version yellow and black, that for me is the best blade. Blade v7 is easier than the previous version of the same raquet, but the 18x20 version is not bad for me
I play with both the Blade V6 counterveil and the Blade 2015 V5 . Both in the 18x20 versions. I hit with the V7 and wasn't impressed. I also hit with the Pure Strike 18x20 and the Yonex V Core Pro HD. Of all those rackets I liked the Yonex and the Babolat. I also play with the Pro Kennex Q + Tour. When I buy a new racket I will likely buy the Yonex because, #1 I like it, a lot, #2 it's not made in China
I played with all three versions including the black and silver version prior to the BLX version. I weight all my blades up to about 12.1oz strung weight. I didn't enjoy the countervail version as much but I really liked the new version, maybe not as much as the BLX versions but I never weighted those ones up becasue I was too young to do so back then, so the comparison is really unfair.
Love the old blade . V5 or LX or whatever you want to call it . Looks better . Plays better , nice balance to it and super solid . I have 4 of them and will not budge on it, till a new old one comes along
Hey all! I'm an ezone 100 300g player and I'm real keen to have a go at a Wilson. Played with pure drive my whole life and want to try something even softer now (mostly for fun). Anyone got any thoughts whether I should try Clash 100 or Blade? I know the clash is way softer but not sure it's overkill. Hear the blade is sick too. Thanks in adv
Puff Peter, if you liked ezone you will really like the Clash. The trick is, you have to play with a string which you like. Because the racquet takes on a bit of a different personality with each different string. Also, there is a new 98 Clash with a open pattern which gives great spin and soft comfortable power with a Luxilon Power VIBE string. On the other hand, I tried the ezone 100 with Babolot blast string. Due to the string it had a different feel and a bit more control but still good hitting depth. So, both were nice but different experiences. My hitting personality is a bit split and I like both strings. I was very impressed with the balance and swing of the 98 sq in Clash demo. And, the vollies, swing ability, wicked top spin and power it generates was thrilling.
Hit with this racquet tonight and hated it 😂 I grew up with the blade ncode and blade BLX 98 and was shocked by how this racquet felt. Glad I did a demo before buying it because I would be pissed.
I want to chance my dunlop 200g musclewave for something similar. I used these Dunlop’s with 8 grommets length of lead, 4 3/8s. What would you suggest?
It is so funny that nearly everyone who used the blade has started disliking it since countervail - thank god they made the blade pro, which is very difficult to hit to be honest.. when you don‘t swing through you can`t find speed, but when you do it is just perfect You should make a review of the blade pro!!!
Where I live sucks for having any pro shops for any sports. I don't think there is a tennis pro shop in all of Saskatchewan. I wish I could go to this store so bad
I am a KBlade 98 (18X20) Man. After a lot of research on the Blade 98 CV 18x20, I got it, but it pales in comparison to the OG KBlade 98. Had my worst nightmare come true (couldn't demo it since currently in India) - the feel is just not there, less control as well, and more unnecessary pop in the Blade CV. Both strung with Wilson Champions Choice - Hybrid at 55 lbs. The feel and the control in the KBlade is so much better! I wonder if they still make the old versions.
Guys between this one and the Head Radical MP which one is better? I'm an intermediate and advanced player and I like to play like the Style of Djoko (obviously a Lot worst than him😂)
The V7 version feels like hitting with a noodle whereas the 2015 version(prior to countervail) and the one before that 2013 versions had the correct stiffness and feel. Too bad I sold those. A friend of mine switched to the new v3 pure strike and he’s very happy.
I had Blade cv and one thing was true i could hit fot hours and never hurt my arm. But i always felt the lack of some power special on the serve so i change and i even try the new one i jumped into the Head speed.
Do any of you guys have to watch his videos at 1.5 speed?😂
Thank you! I will be saving time watching his videos now 😊
Lmao, yes he actually sounds normal on 1.5. Took me about 30 seconds to bump it up.
thank you!! lol
🙏🏼
best tip!!
i quite enjoy my v7 blade. im a 4.0 player with long fast strokes. for me it lacked a little power so i just added a little lead tape at the tip and it helped a lot. great on serves. stable on volleys. thanks for your videos!
Well said. For advanced attacking style players, a great racquet. If you prefer holding the ball and defending, it is not for you..
@@userdjee834 Agreed. Thanks!
💯. I recently tried the Clash, then the Blade. I loved playing with it. 🤷🏽♂️
A friend who’s big into buying pro-stock racquets bought the V7 and was blown away with how good it was and said it was just like a pro-stock.
Which radical pro you played with?
I recently tried V7 and felt in love immediately. The best racket I played so far.
16x19 or 18x20? And what do You know about the Head Radical MP 2021?
I am a 4.5. I was using v6 love it. Then got tempted and switched to V7 and wouldn’t go back. It does have the clash technology and feel so different from many rackets. I thought that it is so easy to move from v6 to v7. Similar feel but lots more power.
No one I know has ever complained about the new Blade. Don’t know what your guys are on about
Im a 4.5 player and I've played with the v5, 6, and 7 blades.
I have moved from a Pure Drive to the v7 18x20. I have 3 of them now, all 18x20. Best frame I've ever used, but no previous Blade experience.
Sry, I know I’m a little late.. but can you explain a bit how it felt - switching from a pure drive to a blade? (Since the pure drive is quite powerful)
I’m currently using the last gen Pure drive (the baby blue one from 2018) and from time to time I’m missing control and feel, which makes it hard for me to swing out with confidence.
Love my v7. Added 6 grams to the hoop and 6 to the handle and it's a FANTASTIC frame.
I have recently switched to the v7 16×19 and I am loving it .there is more control. I did get the feel...love ur channel and reviews too.
It's amazing. The feel. The comfort. The control. Will never switch.
You will
Used to play with the blx version years ago, then switched to the blx prostaff six one 100. The feel was great for me in my late teens, just wanted a lighter racket when switching. It seems this new blade is something I might like!
After owning six 2015's and two v7's i can conclude that Blades are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
I went from a BLX to a V7. The change was dramatic. So much more feel.
Which one of the V7s? I assume 98 but there are two versions.
@@__improwise__ this one : Blade 98 16x19
@@andrearodondi3926 Thanks. Did you try out the 18x20 as well? If I recall correctly, the BLX is 18x20, not sure if there are more than version of that to.
I love this racket lol it has such a nice feel, I went from v5 to v7, the v7 has better feeling more comfortable. The v5 had more crisp feel to it, and not as comfortable. Also the balance was slightly different
Update: I started using the v6 with no countervail and I can’t go back to using the v7 now... the v7 feels too soft and it feels like I’m missing some plow through even tho my v7 has higher swing weight...I don’t understand, just feels like v7 has lower power/pop compared to my v6 now.
I used to play with the 2015 Blade 98 18x20. I upgraded three months ago to the Blade 98 v7 18x20. I like the softener and more damping feel.
I realy like the v7 18x20. Love the control and feel. I have good power of myself, so the lack of power didnt bother me.
Can I ask what strings you use and the tension? I want everything to be around neutral. Was thinking since it’s got a low RA Rating with tight 18x20 string bed that I should use a poly with lower tension but just not sure how low to go . Cheers
@@Sickbishric I have the v7 18x20, main poly 48 and synthetic cross 45, after the strings settle, plays great!
@@swu1413 I might try something like this in the future, I just went with Alu power at the lowest recommended tension and plays great
As someone that has been played 28 years, went on to Teach the game in my 20's I understand what players mean by the bad feel of later generations of blade racquets.
If you haven’t tried it how can you comment lol
A pro Stock racket with 304g? lol
Great points! Thank for your insight.
@@TennisSpin Thanks!
Totally agree!! Power to the “old” players 😉😂
Exactly, well said. It is a great combo of old and new, made for advanced attacking players. There is nothing wrong with the Blade if you're good enough and if you're an attacking style player. For its weight class it is great.
Bought some pro-stock blades 😊
Man the V7 is one of the most popular sticks I can remember. Don't know who he was talking to at the time.
The V7 is for players.
Couldn’t agree more. Just sold my Blades V7 because of dull feel and lack of power. Now playing with Babolat Pure Drive and love it
How is your arm 🤔
Can you do a video about the blade 98S (18x16) racquet? They got rid of it in the v7 edition. But Europe still sells the 98S
I was hoping the Blade would be similar because spec-wise it’s not all that different
I did really like the countervail version that I tried a few years back.
Just found a website stocking the v5 Blades and am going back to them
Pls make a video on rackets that play like the blade V6 without cv
Mike here,
I have 2 of the v6 Blade 98l which, from what I have reserched, doesn't have 'countervail' in it although it looks the same.
End of
The 2015 blade were perfect
agreed
it’s back
@@BullyGarfield. I will try it soon, thanks!
Great racket for players - nice feel, plush and great control.
Q: Why do you use a Clash instead of the RF97 if you like heavier racquets?
Tim T I need the power from the clash pro. Too old to use RF... thanks for watching!
Love it is is buttery smooth
i tried the v6 and hated it...went back to my v5 and still using them today
This is exactly my case!!!! Still playing with V5 and do not know what to buy now!
Mate, I played with all 3 and I found the new v7 amazing. More feel, more pop and swings nicer. I hit a heavier ball with more spin with head lynx edge strings.
Only issue I have is Tsitsipas on the poster.
Added some weight as well, but still too light tbh.
were you playing the 98 or 100? & 16x19 or 18x20?
So what racquet do you recommend instead of this blade?
Looking forward to your review of re-issued Blade v6, without Counterveil.
MischkoR yea I agree why is the weight so low ??
@@cp_703 They have 328g SW which is pretty standard, when people need more than that they also know how to customize it
Stathis Fragkos recreational players trying to “customize” .... only the pro’s can handle that
I knew it it’s basically the same racquet but with a bunch of dampeners.
@@emjay2045 I’m aware. I always put led tape on my racquets anyway.
I'm a 25 years old 4.5 baseline player.
you refer to the 16x19, the 18x20 v7 is hell of a racket, if you can handle it
I don’t know who is complaining about Blade v7.
What string tension do you recommend for the Wilson Blades lite vs for kids around 11-13 yo?
The reviews on the V7 16x19 blade can vary. I've heard many people saying how it's a bit of a rocket launcher and not as stable as the 18x20 version, along with the feel resembling hitting with a tree trunk injected with novocaine. I agree with these observations and am much happier with the 18x20, although it can be a bit hard to maneuver for those who aren't conditioned to using a more head-heavy stick.
You don't need the last version of racquets, at least you can try it, but is not necessary buy it every year. I still play with BLX version yellow and black, that for me is the best blade.
Blade v7 is easier than the previous version of the same raquet, but the 18x20 version is not bad for me
I played the blx blade, but switch to the Dunlop cx200.
100% honest and absolutely excellent reviews on frames and equipment...brilliant channel
I've watched other videos that review the v7 racquets. I haven't heard any of these complaints.
It is so funny that nearly everyone who used the blade has started disliking it since countervail - thank god they made the blade pro, which is very difficult to hit to be honest.. when you don‘t swing through you can`t find speed, but when you do it is just perfect
You should make a review of the blade pro!!!
Love my new Blade 98 16x19 v7! Don't get his negative review of it. v7 has a great blend of control, feel, and power if you have the racquet speed.
I've four of Blade 98 v7. it's awesome. love it. not sure about 2015 blade tho.
16x19?
@@BullyGarfield. 18x20
Where I live sucks for having any pro shops for any sports. I don't think there is a tennis pro shop in all of Saskatchewan. I wish I could go to this store so bad
Compared to ezone 98 2020?
Blade V7 is awesome!! what is wrong with you people!!
Glad to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Also I agree with the alternatives.
I'm an intermediate and advanced player and I like to play like the Style of Djoko (obviously a Lot worst than him😂)
I have been using v5 for 4 years. I just bought v7 3 weeks ago. They are quite different. V7 is softer. I still love my v5. Sigh.
just about to buy 3 blade v6's that i was lucky enough to find
Nothing wrong with this version of blade. Just got another one. 18x20.
Looking forward to your Pure Strike review 👍
