    I really don't get why American stores don't include their tax on the price tag. Literally every European country does this and it makes shopping so much easier.
    Also, early squad!!!

    I exclusively heal my tattoos with saniderm/tegaderm now. I've just had such a good experience with it. I initially got it to heal a tattoo in my elbow ditch and it helped SO MUCH. Without it I scab up pretty bad and when I use it my skin is super chill. It also helps because I love wearing layers and it's nice to not have the feeling of clothes rubbing over your raw tattoo. I don't know what else to say I love this weird sticky shit man.

    1. You have to trim it to fit the area specifically so it doesn't pull a high impact muscle like that.
    2. Peel it off in the shower so it's less painful.
    3. It was just catching all that gunk that comes off naturally that you don't see bc there's nothing there to catch it. That's why it smells weird and had excess ink on it.
    I hope you give it a fair chance some other time now that you're more aware of what it's like.

    Omg girl, try it again when you get a fresh piece! It is nerve wracking at first before you get the hang of it, and it kind of involves patience on your end but it's so worth it! My tattoos have healed a literal million times better since I started using tegaderm!

  • @TheMMDee

    Science student here, and just as a warning, some people are known to have bad skin reactions when using tegaderm. These reactions may cause skin irritation, redness, folliculitis, or itchiness. If you decide to use tegaderm for your tattoo, if you feel any discomfort in relation to any of these symptoms, immediately take it off and consider other healing options.

    Usually I leave a new tattoo cling wrapped for the first 24 hours, then I wash it, then I put a tegaderm on it for like 5 days. After that it's usually totally healed. Best way to remove the tegaderm I find is in a hot shower or bath. Just peel it off like a band aid.

    I've healed 4 tattoos with saniderm and I prefer it over traditional healing! It was placed immediately after the tattoos were done and cleaned, and I was instructed to leave it on for 3-5 days depending on the size. It was nice to leave it alone during the yucky first 3 days of a new tattoo, and by the time you remove the bandage it's already healing/"scabbing". As someone who work in food service, this also feels a bit more sanitary for me and my customers. It does pull at your skin a bit, and it's pretty gnarly to look at because all the blood plasma and ink pools and coagulates, but I personally enjoyed the healing process with Saniderm. :-)

    You're supposed to take it off in the shower! You peel off a little bit, while letting the water run under the saniderm to loosen the adhesive so you don't peel off your scabs and do it like very slowly (so slow that you'll want to lose your mind, as my artist described it)

    I always use tegaderm for my tattoos and I love it. My artist instructions that I follow: she cleans and wraps my tattoo in an absorbant bandage and tape that I sleep in after getting tattooed. Next morning I wash and dry my tattoo then apply the tegaderm on top. After 5 days I remove the tegaderm and then wash and put lubriderm on. Its basically healed by then just some peeling for a few more days. I continue to wash and lubriderm it for a few days after removal as well. Its totally normal for goop and stuff to get under there while its healing your bodies natural enzymes mixed with the ink etc is in there so it looks nasty but its not anything to be concerned about. This method keeps the color in my tattoos super bright and i have no scabbing (if only very tiny bit on awkward parts) I do avoid going swimming or taking a bath while this is on though and try to avoid getting it wet even though it is waterproof just like being overly cautious.

    There's a video on here about removing tatuderm which is how you should remove it. We say tay-grrr-derm here. You can order it online quite cheap. It works so well because it keeps the tattoo moist and protected from the elements. When a wound/tattoo heals with scabs the skin has to heal from the outside inwards, if the wound is moist the body can heal it's preferred way of inside out because the moist surface allows white blood cells to move freely across the surface of the wound/tattoo, if there's a scab they can only move around the outside. Usually it's applied after tattooing, kept on for 12-48 hours depending on how much fluid gathers in the film, then remove, wash, re apply and wear continuously for 3-7 days, remove and if still peeling apply aftercare very lightly for a few days. In the same way as it keeps fluid in, it keeps everything out so you can bathe, swim, wear clothes, cuddle pets and with no worries. You can also buy it on a roll and apply it over a large area by overlapping the edges

    It was designed originally for burn victims, it's become my new way of healing tattoos. I get tattooed by a traditional artist who's work is harder to heal than my illustrative artist. I'm getting perfect heals on both of their works now because I use tegaderm like others have described! It has microscopic holes in it so air particles can pass through for oxygen so it doesn't get septic but keeps out water and germs. The adhesive is designed to not stick to the fresh tattoo and only stick to the dry skin around it.

    The goo is usually ink and plasma seepage. :) My tattoo artist put one on my forearm for a big piece. The first one was left on for 24 hours, and the second one was left on for 3 days. When I took it off my tattoo was almost completely done peeling. It's designed to not take out ink when you take it off, so don't be so fearful .

  • @dallasaguiar2392
    @dallasaguiar2392 7 лет назад +33

    For my last tattoo, the artist had me use saniderm. It was about 6x4 in. He put it on right after he finished and instructed me to take it off 24 hours later, wash and dry it completely and put it on again for SEVEN days. I was so scared. It made it much easier to sleep/shower/move but taking it off sucked. I was petrified it would pull out the ink (it didn't though). After I removed it a week later there was no peeling which was very cool. But honestly it healed the same as my other tattoos. I think I would recommend it to people whose lifestyle requires something more low-maintenance for healing tattoos.

    I love tagaderm, but I apply mine the one day after I get tattooed. I leave on my bandages for the night to let the ink and plasma start to drain, and then apply it to clean, dry skin, and then leave it on for about 3 days (because that's usually as long as I can stand to have it on. Also, when I take it off, I run it under warm water as I peel it off, and it comes off way easier.

    Some thoughts and tips to make this easier on you next time if you choose to heal with this method again. 1. Put it on right after the initial wash of your tattoo when it's fresh. Don't give it time to get pissed off before applying it. 2. You can cut tegaderm. A smaller piece would have helped you a lot in the removal process. Love you and your videos! Keep on keepin' on!

  • @JennaWallaceGood
    @JennaWallaceGood 7 лет назад +16

    You're definitely not supposed to put it on once your tattoo has started scabbing. It's like what you do for your wet healing except the idea behind it is it's a lot easier and simpler to do than unwrapping washing rewarding etc. This way it's completely sanitary and makes the tattoo heal way faster.
    My artist uses Tegaderm now and I was suspicious at first (I've always done dry healing) but I swear by it now, it's fucking amazing, I had it on for three days, and after I took it off my tattoo was mildly itchy and a TINY bit flaky but no scabbing or craziness (and I scan like a motherfucker when tattooed)

    Iv'e healed all my tattoos with tegaderm- both artists put it right on after being tattooed and then instructed me to leave it on for 4 days- only take it off before then if there's too much fluid buildup and it breaks the sterile seal. My tattoos have healed perfectly! No scabbing at all, and only about a day or two of peeling.

    Next time try to apply it immediately after tattoo prior to leaving the shop (instead of wrapping) and then change and wash the tattoo the next day. After that you can put a new sheet on for a week or so. The liquid is sanguineous fluid/plasma (the stuff that makes Crusties and scabs). I think there are issues with your heal with the dressing because it wasn't put on right away. The existing scabs would have been under the dressing which would have pulled them a bit. Just something to think about!

  • @WowNaoiseLook
    @WowNaoiseLook 7 лет назад +1

    This stuff is supposed to be put on right after you get the tattoo, so when the goop and the plasma from the tattoo comes out, it pools inside the tegaderm/second skin like bits of yours did and it doesn't stick to the fresh tattoo so you're only pulling it off the dry fresh skin 😊

    Usually you put it on right after the tattoo is done and then keep it on for 3-10 days. Taking it off after 18-24 hours is very pointless. I love this stuff. My tattoos have never healed as well as with this! Will never use anything else :D

    I love this stuff! I feel it heals my tattoos a lot quicker, and I've noticed that when using it; it actually keeps the colors in my tattoos a bit better. I'll wear the one the artist puts on the first day, and then i'll replace it the following day - then keep the 2nd one on for 4-5 days. If you decide to try out this method again, I would recommend using water on the adhesive to help remove it easier!

    Hey Qkcnd! Hope this helps. (healthcare professional here :-) )Tegaderm or Saniderm after applied to a cleansed wound (in this case a tattoo) is generally supposed to stay on for about a week before removal or changing to a new dressing. Best results are seen if you apply this right after you get home from getting the tattoo and washing it but I realize you weren't able to in this case since you usually heal your tattoos just fine without it :-).

    I love tegaderm, after i first used it for my knee tattoo i will never go back to anything else. After i got tattooed i let it air out for 24 hours then put it on the next day. It will ooze inside and bubble up like that. I leave mine on for 5 days which you can leave up to 7. The moving part is really uncomfortable and the feeling of it being on is ehh, but it wont come off the edges will come up a bit but it wont completely come off. The peeling part made me cringe. You should pull your skin taught and peel it off slowly like a peeling sunburn and then clean it right after, the bandage will not take off your whole tattoo etc, but it will take off excess ink and all that. I def think you should of put it on right after getting it and not a week after, try it again! Im sure youll love it.

    If it is warm and weeping then you may want to head to a tattoo and get them to check it. If it starts to smell bad then there's a possibility it could be infected. I had a tattoo which split open and weeped and the doctors said I had an allergic reaction to the ink which could also be happening. Mine healed fine eventually but some lines were knocked out and needed topping up. Also just to let you know that the doctor also said to me that they cannot treat you with antibiotics until it is totally infected (smelling bad, warm to touch, weeping liquid) so you may want to wait to see which way it goes, it may heal itself.

    I (finally) got my first tattoo today and my tattooer uses Tegaderm to heal a lot of the tattoos she does if the person isn't sensitive to adhesives. I remembered you posted this video, so I thought I'd take a look!
    Mine was put on right after getting the tattoo with nothing underneath. I was instructed to keep it on for 4 days and just leave it the hell alone. I was told it's waterproof to an extent, so working out and showering was okay, but not swimming of any kind. My tattooer said not to take it off unless it started leaking out, and then to switch to traditional healing immediately. After those 4 days, take it off in the shower and give it a good wash and then wash once a day.
    I'm digging it so far. Obviously I don't have much to compare it to, but it seems like a great and easy option so far.

      Cassie Gherardini yeah I'm sensitive to adhesives but tested it on my skin first and it was fine but then tried it on my tattoo and it ruined my linework and now me and my poor tattoo artist have to go over it again. Oh well.

    My tattooist started using this kind of ''bandage'' not so long ago and I really like it. She puts it on the fresh inked tattoo and I keep it for about three days. When it's time to take it off, I always do it under the shower while the cool water is running. It goes way easierand it does not feel like you also peeling the whole ink off :)

    I healed most recent tattoo similarly. However, Amazon sells a roll of something called Tatu-derm and then you're not restricted to one size. Before putting it on, we put a super thin layer of A&D under it, and that let the outside stick to the skin but not to the tattoo. Mine healed very well and I got to swim and everything. Personally I loved it because I usually keep my tattoos wrapped super long bc I pick at everything and I have a ton of animals and before when I used saran wrap, I used to get really bad heat rash and Tatu-derm really worked for me. If you try it again, I really recommend putting the thin layer of A&D!

    My tattoo artist uses this type of cover instead of normal plastic wrap when the tattoo is finished, and in my experience, it does help the tattoo heal so much quicker. I have it one for the first 48 hours when the tattoo is literary an open wound, and it just keeps it safe! And a way from cat hair and such, which is also a problem in my flat. And when I take it off its pretty much time for the tattoo to start peeling. I think most tattooers in Sweden uses this type of wrapping nowadays. And I really recommend this healing method, so much better than traditional healing, well, in my case xx

  • @jadewebber422
    @jadewebber422 7 лет назад +1

    I love it. It's used to help heal difficult wounds and burns as well as the IV as you mentioned. For tattoos you need to put it on during the early stages as letting some of your plasma staying there helps with the stuff not sticking and helps heal the area. I wouldn't use after that time but if you must a little ointment helps to make sure it doesn't stick and pull at your tattoo. My procedure is just dry heal saran overnight and part of the first day to get some of the excretions from the wound to come out otherwise you have a patch of goo on your arm, can spring leaks and it looks gross. Some out tagaderm for 24 hrs then replace but I find it a pain to take off for just 1 day so saran is good for the leaking day. Once on I don't pull off for 6 days no matter what. If it peels on edges I repatch with thin strips to reseal. The heals I've done this way have been perfect compared to any other method I've tried. I bought a large roll for home.

    I use tegaderm on all of my tattoos- I spend the first night or two wrapped in clingfilm until it's not weeping so much and then I put tegaderm on it. I only change it if it peels or fills with too much ink and I leave it on around 7 days. When I take it off its usually done healing, sometimes I'll get a really tiny amount of peeling but only for a day or two. I won't heal any other way now!

  • @salfordnurse
    @salfordnurse 7 лет назад +2

    Because of the type of dressing it is you do, DO NOT leave it on for longer than 7 days, though I'd consider changing it probably 3-4 days. The whole point of Tegaderm is it is designed to create a barrier that will protect the wound from micro organisms wile creating a moist environment for the wound to heal, it should also prevent scab formation. When taking it of carry on as you were by pulling it up and was you are closer to the tattoo, place your hand over it and street he the dressing and then release, this will cause the adhesive to break up and should stop any trauma

  • @_no_elle_marie

    my first few tattoos were wrapped up with something like saniderm, except, you leave it on for 3 days and then take it off, and it only sticks to whats dry, so your weeping tattoo isnt hurt by the stickiness of the adhesive, and when you take it off, kinda do it in the shower with semi warm water hitting it in a downward motion.. and it comes off a lot easier than just dry pulling it off. I really like this method of healing and at the same time i don't. I like that if you get it on a fresh tattoo, like they send you home with it.. you can avoid worrying about stuff getting everywhere, you can wear whatever you want, take showers, swim,fully immerse yourself and you're all good, it makes the first few days super easy and nothing can get into your tattoo because it's completely sealed off. I was kinda nervous about it at first since i have sensitive skin, i dont really like medical tape all that well, and sometimes at the end of day 3 i'm a little itchy surrounding the area, and i hate having to rub/scrub off any left over adhesive that stays on my skin. But thats really just nit picking, i like it and i think this method works well, and if youre a more active person it's nice.

    I know this is an old video but I just wanted to say removing the sani/tegaderm can be really scary but it’s sooo crucial to pull it away from the tattoo parallel to your skin (as she does after looking it up) and doing it in a warm shower makes it MUCH easier. I’ve wet healed two of my tattoos and if done right saniderm takes at least a week off of the immediate healing process

    When I healed my tattoo: first 24 hours open/dry heal/1-2 applications of Aquaphor, covered @ night with paper towel and plastic wrap (to much plasma to tegederm/didn't want to waste one changing it after 24 hours). Then applied tegederm to clean, dry tattoo, left alone/out of sun for about 4 days. I began feeling a little itchy, could have reapplied, but chose to remove the tegederm, carefully, with soap and lukewarm water. No scabbing, just intense dry, cracked skin/flaking. Lotioned whenever I felt the need until dry skin was gone appr. 5-6 days.

    Personally I love using stuff like this. One of my tattoo artists uses it on me, and she always applies it right after the tattoo is finished and then I leave it on for 2-5 days (taking it off in the shower makes it much easier btw). All of my tattoos I've used this on have healed PERFECTLY (no touch ups needed) no matter the location - arms, legs, and sternum. Also, I never get a lot of large scabs/peeling when using this stuff. I highly recommend putting it on directly after being tattooed though, otherwise yeah it could pull up scabs.

A couple people mentioned that it’s usually applied right after the tattoos done, which is true. It’s applied once the tattoos done and I’ve been told to keep mine on for 24-48 hours. It makes things so much easier for healing for the first few days because it’s completely covered and you can get it wet and not have to worry.

    I swear by tegaderm! My first tattoo artist gave it to me and I've used it to heal all my tattoos besides one and the one I didn't use it with, I wasn't happy with how it healed. I usually leave it on for 4-5 days and the liquid is just fluid and excess ink collecting, it doesn't damage the tattoo at all. If it's in a difficult area like yours, it's best to cut slits in the corners so it will follow the natural curves and movement of skin. Also, if you're afraid about removing it, you can do it when you're in the shower, it's much easier and you have to rinse all the fluids off anyway! I'm happy to see you try it out and hopefully you'll have a better experience with it next time if you try again :) Can't wait to see what you try next, hope you have a lovely day!

    I healed my last 2 tatts with tegaderm and won't go back to A&D ointment. All my remaining will be healed with tegaderm. After I get home and do 1st wash, I wrap the tatt and remove it about day 4, clean and if either rewrap or allow air healing. It all depends on their placement.

    I've had saniderm/tegaderm before and it works awesome! like everyone else is stating its usually applied right after your tattoo is finished. I leave it on for about 2 days and it helps ALOT if you take it off while in the shower. that way the warm water helps with loosening the adhesive and its not so painful to remove. Hope that helps for the future! :)

    I healed my whole back with it and you don’t have to put it on straight away. When I’m finished getting tattooed my artist wraps it in cling film/plastic wrap and I leave that on until I shower. I shower and then dry off, put more cling film on and sleep with it. The next day I take off the cling film and then dry and put on the saniderm/Tegaderm/oppsite and leave it for 7 days. I take it off after that and then just moisturise from then on. Absolute best way I’ve healed my tattoos. I don’t recommend putting it on the same day you get tattooed and then taking it off the day after, the pain of taking it off and the harshness on the skin whilst doing it can’t be good.

    We used saniderm on a few of my tattoos. The whole bandage filled with fluid. I left it on for about 3 days and removed it in the shower and the tattoo didn't scab and honestly wasn't as sore as the rest of my tattoos.

    I've not used tegaderm but have used saniderm multiple times and it's been a great success! Although, it's meant to go on immediately after your tattoo is done and you keep it on for 4+ days. When used correctly, it's really awesome.
    Edit: REMOVE IN THE SHOWER!!! It's so much easier and more comfortable.

    I want to try this for a future tattoo. I agree with the comments about putting it on a fresh tattoo - for 24 hours - washing - then re-applying. I think it sounds great for showering, swimming, protecting your fresh tattoo from environmental "stuff". I've been healing a recent tattoo - and I've had clothing over my fresh tattoo - where I used a special tattoo salve on it. I don't put a bandage over it, because I find the bandage super irritating. Now it's in the itchy stage. This tegaderm or sani-derm seems great for protecting your tattoo under clothing and so on.

    If you decide to give tegaderm another chance they're much cheaper on amazon.
    I'm a hairstylist too so I use them on spots where a lot of water hits. I don't use them for all my tattoos because I have sensitive skin and it irritates my skin where the edges of the tegaderm are. Taking them it off hurts! I try to leave it on as long as possible but when you take it off your tattoo will be healed and vibrant.

    with tegaderm, you're not supposed to apply it that far down in healing because it will rip off scabs :( when its done initially the lymph and excess ink prevents it from sticking on the tattooed skin and thats wht it works. trust me, ive done this before too and i ripped skin off and lost ink and it suuuucks. i use it to heal all of my tattoos now and its honestly the best if its used at the right time

    I'm a little late, but figured id share my experience with this method of healing! I've used this for my past 4 tattoos and I think it is fantastic. My artist always puts one on after the session, I change it on my own the second day, and then just leave it alone for a week before taking it off. He's always great about giving me the other pieces so I have yet to buy one on my own. I was for sure nervous about taking mine off the first time because like you, I thought I was just peeling my scabs off and potentially putting my new tattoo in danger. After talking to my artist about that concern he assured me that it is completely normal and most of the time it is just the leftover plasma, ink, etc. My experiences could totally be different because I use them immediately after the tattoo and not afterwards, but overall they are great! I recommend them to everybody I know!

      @stfuiitsdanielle 7 лет назад

      In my personal experience, I've put it directly on the tattoo when it is completely dry. I don't believe it'll stick to a wet surface. When applying the bandage, you really kind of have to work with it to get it flat and make sure there are no bubbles or anything, and I'm pretty sure using a lotion/ointment wouldn't work with it too well.

    • @fyora7039
      @fyora7039 7 лет назад +1

      you usually put it on right after tattooing, my tattooartist put a little bit of lotion on and then the saniderm. You should have quite some space around the tattoo, which should be dry, covered as well, so it holds well and doesn't leak. That way the fluids coming out of the tattoo as well as the lotion will prevent the saniderm from sticking to the tattoo, but it will still stick to the dry skin around it. Thats at least my experience, it makes removing it a lot easier and less painful.

    So Teagaderm/Saniderm has been my favorite method of healing my tattoos. I've only been tattooed about 5 times though. However, I recently got tattooed an noticed some of the ink went after it healed. When my tattoo artist did touch ups she suggested I used Saniderm instead and the ink held up so much better and it was more vibrant. It was low maintenance and no scabbing which I personally loved!

    In my area, most tattoo artist put tagaderm on after every tattoo by default. But, after getting it put on a few times and it irritating my skin the first couple times and then ultimately causing my skin to blister and scar, I always ask my tattoo artist to not put it on me because my skin does not react well to the harsh pulling or the glue in the dressing or something.

    an easier way to take the tegaderm off is run warm/ hot water over it for a couple of minutes or you could submerge it in bucket with warm/hot water. wipe excess water off and immediately peel while the adhesive is semi melted/ malleable. Hoped this helps :)

    It sucks that you had a hard time with tegaderm. I will never heal another tattoo without tegaderm, it's amazing.
    You have to put it on right away and let the bandage soak up all the blood and lymph and when you take it off in ~4-7 days (I can only do 4 days since my skin gets irritated after that point) it's pretty much entirely healed. It skips the entire flaking period, not a single scab either. You also need to make sure you give at least a 1 inch border of untattooed skin around your new tattoo.
    I hope you'll give it another shot on a fresh new tattoo, you'll probably have a better experience (especially with all the know-it-alls like me commenting).
    Protip, take it off in the shower, it's a thousand times easier.

    Hey! My tattoo artist put something extremely similar on my tattoo immediately after he cleaned it and yea he told me to take it off after 3 days! He also said the easiest way to take it off was in a warm shower because it loosened up the adhesive. It speeds up the healing process for me by at least a week which was cool. Those pockets of ink happened to me too but I feel that's normal.

  • @jjenniferr91

    I've used tegaderm on all my leg tattoos about palm size bc I mostly wear jeans and it protects against the friction rubbing and messing with it. I like applying a tegaderm sheet about the third day bc I feel the majority of extra plasma and ink has left. If i put a sheet on the day after I would have to reapply the next anyways bc of the fluid build-up is so much that it leaks out of the bandage and comes off or gets air pockets that trap water inside and become infected. I usually leave it on for 4-5 days then take it off in warm shower it helps ease off gently. My tattoo still goes through the peeling stage for a couple days after but doesn't scab which I had that problem often before using it bc of my job and I would always need a touch up. 10/10 recommend for palm size full color tattoos.

    I live by tegaderm especially for my larger pieces. It's definitely best used immediately after the appointment. I've been told 3 days to a week on then take it off in the shower cause the shower makes it come off way easier. I have a giant full thigh piece and I would have hated to do a natural heal on it and tegaderm healed it like 75% and saved me so much pain.

My artist had me run the tagederm under warm water while I took it off and it came off pretty easy. Maybe the difference is mine was on from the beginning? Also, looking at your tagederm, it seems like the one the artist used on mine was much more sturdy.

I've never kept it on for more than three days cuz my tattoos have always leaked through. But some people manage to keep it on for 7, and once they remove it their tattoo is totally healed. I always use something similar called "suprasorb" on my tattoos instead of cling film. I use it immediately after getting the tattoo and the days after. If you put it on properly it really holds up well, and it's sooo much more comfortable than cling film, you don't get itchy skin from the heat and you can dress so much more comfortably :)

    • @MissStillAlive
      @MissStillAlive 7 лет назад

      I'm sure though you're only supposed to use it if the tattoo is wet, like in the first few days cause then it won't stick to the tattoo, just to the parts around it. And the gunk can't get out of it, and the tattoo heals really nicely. That might be the reason why it stuck to your tattoo so much, just because it was already very late in the healing process.

    I used a product like this (i believe it was dermalize? Not sure) when healing an all black traditional piece. Supposedly you would have to put it on, peel it after 24h, wash the tattoo and then put another one on for 7 days. Well, the first bandage was completely full (i mean i could only see a big back blob, it looked soaked under that) after 12h... so i put another one on before i went to bed on the same day i had the tattoo done, and when i woke up it needed to be changed again. I only had 2 bandages so my process ended there and had to continue healing with bepanthene. I guess if i had more bandages maybe it would have worked, but it kinda scared me the way it let so much plasma and excess ink i kinda thought it wasnt letting the tattoo breathe properly. Supposedly it is breathable as it is waterproof but i was kinda skeptical... someone later told me it was normal because of the style of the tattoo i had done, i guess it doesn't work as well with traditional pieces as realistic ones, for example 😅 still, i think ill give it a go a second time in the future!

    I have used Tegaderm but not for healing. I used it because I had to go on swimming a week after getting tattooed. Since I knew I would only wear it for the day, I put ointment on the tattoo itself only (it was in the pealing stage), I used the tegaderm and it worked to keep the water out since the surrounding area around the tattoo had no ointment and could stick pretty well. At the end of the day, removing the film was easy as the ointment prevented the film from sticking to the tattoo
