    I love that you admit tattoos hurt you. I feel like so many people act all tough after a tattoo and say it didn't hurt even if it did.

      My tattoos didn't hurt and I could care less about looking tough. I'm pretty honest when it comes to pain. I have given birth natural no pain med/epidural twice and it hurt a lot. Tattoos are like a therapeutic process to me.

      I didn't find mine hurt I was ready to fall asleep during 3. I just find some people even if it hurt them with forget or play it off like it didn't. Not saying it doesn't hurt some people and not others.

    My first and only tattoo is on my ribs. I've got a very high pain tolerance and had to actively convince my artist that I could handle it. He was actually so surprised at how well I took it that he ended up charging me quite a bit less than the original quote because it went so fast. The first thing he told me when he finished was "Well now that you've gotten this you can get any other tattoo, because it's not going to get much worse than that."
    It was pretty sensitive for about a week, and actually getting it felt like a really bad sunburn that someone was dragging a sharp nail over.

    • @Tipbs
      @Tipbs 8 лет назад

      What tattoos did you get? (If you don't mind sharing!) I really want a small (inch sized) geometric line tattoo on my sternum. I have plenty of piercings but no tattoos yet... and this video is scaring me!

    • @traviswolff841
      @traviswolff841 8 лет назад

      I wanted to throw out there that my first and only tattoo is on my ribs as well. The differences I had were that the artist had no problem with me getting it there and my pain tolerance is through the roof as I only felt mild irritation during and after.

      Heather Thompson It's an outline of a cat. The line is thicker and curly, and the tattoo is 2-3 inches tall. Yours is gonna be fuckin painful but if it's that small and doesn't require shading or coloring it'll probably take like 15 minutes!

      Mine felt like scratching but when I got mine done. I was walking to a store and some random child came up and pretended to be an animal and he scratched it....he was 16 or 15 but I had literally just gotten it done with my dad 20 minutes before that incident...I was 16 at the time of my first tattoo and it was on my ankle, now I have 3 and I just turned 18 in march. It sucks though that money stops us from getting more tattoos :c

      It's not really the same feeling - for me at least. Also you may know this but if you are getting a tattoo over scars the ink could bleed into the scars a little. Mine did that on one spot but it's hardly noticeable but then again its different for everyone and the same goes for pain. good luck!

      raynbow sunshine really not a way to compare it. The nipples for me were a big painful pinch. I got a 2 hour thigh piece the same day. Different length of time and sensations. The nipples don’t hurt unless I snag or bump them. I needed to take Advil for the tattoo pain and swelling after.

    I also have a tattoo appointment on April 4th! I'm getting my thigh piece colored in. I'm pretty excited about it. I enjoy getting tattooed but it definitely hurts. My most painful one was the back of my knee. It felt like he was drilling all the way through my knee. Everything else I have has just been a surface pain. Tattoos hangover is a great term. I always feel it the next day and just want to lay in bed and not move. Loved this video as always. Love the intro too. Keep up the good work. I love watching your channel and seeing it grow.

    Something that I've noticed is eating helps a lot. Basically concentrating eats trough a lot of energy literally so eat well before and I'd take a snack break every hour or two, especially for the parts that hurt or long lines that for me irritate my nerves and make me want to move or tense my muscles.

    • @MakeupByAnnki
      @MakeupByAnnki 8 лет назад +1

      +Mikko Saarinen The eating part helps alot! But for me taking breaks and starting again is the worst, so i want to do as much as possible before my tattoo artist needs to take a break😂 But we are all different and have different pain levels 😊

    • @mikkosaarinen3225
      @mikkosaarinen3225 8 лет назад +1

      For me personally pain isn't the worst part but rather the nerve irritation from precise linework, it makes my muscles want to clench really badly. The funny part is I absolutely love intricate lines and patterns and my tattoos are about 80% just lines XD

    I appreciate your admission of your "tattoo hangover". I just recently got the outline of my first tattoo which is basically a half sleeve. The thing I was most surprised about was the pain in the butt that is the healing process. I was shocked that despite all the tattooed people I know, I had never heard about how hard it is to sleep or just exist the first few days with a new tattoo! Actually getting the tattoo, I was a total champ through. I was kind of a baby for the following few days though. I go back in for the coloring in a couple weeks and I expect that hangover to be even worse. I'm at least glad that I know what to expect now. Thanks for helping me feel not so alone!

    Woo. Sternum tattoos. That's one that I would be scared to do. My foot was my first, and the cover up of that one was one of the longest. It was intense (healing was uggggly), but I think my finger tattoos bothered me the most in the moment. I have a small chest tattoo, and I think placement and body type is everything here. It didn't bother me. It's so variable, but I think your comment about tattoos on the core of your body is SPOT ON.

    I got a wolf face on my sternum with flowers coming off to both sides connecting to my side pieces which both go from my armpits to the bottom of my ribcage... the hardest part was definitely the wolf head as I had to hold my breath while the needle was on me. I'd imagine that that fact lent a great deal to the pain level because it adds stress.
    My most painful tattoo was definitely the owl I have going from the bottom of my sternum to my lady parts because a) it's a giant piece and b) it covers a lot of sensitive area plus a lot of scar tissue I have. The one thing you can do to help the most with pain is to concentrate on breathing, as you said.

  • @chezlin

    Ooo, digging the intro!!
    Just last week I got my biggest tattoo to date on my inner arm, pretty much stretching from almost my arm pit to almost my inner elbow. Surprisingly it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would as I was being tattooed - in fact, the closer he got to my arm pit, the more it just straight up tickled-, but I think a lot of that is because I was building it up in my head. The healing sucked a lot though. Tooooootally looking forward to going in next month and getting it finished, haha.
    Oh yeah, it's also the only one where I experienced "tattoo flu" right afterwards. Probably because it was my biggest/longest session.

    • @chezlin
      @chezlin 8 лет назад

      Oh, it was totally my most painful yet, but totally bearable still (for me at least, we're all different in terms of which areas hurt more)! My tattoo artist and I were laughing at how every time I come in for a new tattoo I'm going bigger and in a more sensitive area. I almost moved the placement just because I was scared of the pain. So glad I didn't though! Thankfully it's only a temporary thing, and then you have awesome artwork on your body :D
      Good luck next week, I'm sure you'll be able to make it through!! :D

    Reading during the tattoo is what helps me the most, I'm able to completely forget the pain during small periods. Pick a book you know you'll love and will have no trouble getting into though! Otherwise my bigget problem is getting very tense and forgetting to breathe so I like to make sure I am as relaxed as possible and breathing calmly from time to time during the session.

    My first tattoo was a large black & grey under-bust piece with heavy shading; I used the 4-7-8 breathing technique for meditation and relaxation and ended up falling asleep for a short bit of the process. Id say that breathing techniques & mindset are the biggest things that affect pain vs. peace while being tattoo'd. I repeat some thoughts in my head along the lines of feeling nothing but vibrations of electricity, and I stare at the fluorescent lights above and imagine myself and everything around me being composed of atoms and electrons dancing, and everything is connected yet separate, and basically just distract myself and pull my focus away from my body and into my mind. Your mind is a powerful tool.

    I only have 1 tattoo and it's about a year old now. I got it behind my ear, on my neck. I have a huge fear of needle so I was internally freaking out. I found it felt like either a hard scratching, or like a light scratch on a sunburn. No big deal at all. I felt like an idiot for being so freaked out. Coming from someone who often fears pain, no big deal at all.

    I only have 2 tattoos but I would love to collect more. My first tattoo was on the very top of my shoulder and it was painless. So I thought I just had a high tolerance for pain or something...wrong. My second tattoo is on the top of my foot and it was very painful and I love it, but it has faded quite a bit where my foot bends. We for the most part avoided the bend of my foot except the beginning of the tattoo so that's a bummer. For whatever reason the touch up was way worse than the original tattoo. I have to go back again for one more and see if there is anything we can do to make it stop fading...even if it means trying another color or another type of ink. I'd suggest not getting a foot tattoo unless its like directly in the center.

The first line work session wasn't so bad...but the second one was all shading and I could not imagine going a second longer than I did...let alone another two hours.
    And agreed that breathing properly helps immensely! Again, good luck. I can't wait to see it :D

    I got a tattoo two days ago on my right calf. Everywhere on youtube and websites you see people asking which places hurt to get tattooed. While it didn't hurt all that much, I only found out the last couple days that the healing is way more painful than getting the tattoo. Everytime I stand up and take the first few steps it hurts like hell, but then it thankfully fades pretty quickly. Why did I never think about this?:P

      I actually got my first tattoo yesterday on my sternum/chest and it was suuuper painful, but hopefully the healing will be easier since it's not on a body part that moves that much. I hope your tattoo turns out perfect after the healing process!!

    You have been so much help love your channel, I just had the center of my chest tattooed with a butterfly for my first tattoo and also got two small works about 5 inches under each nipple, it was surprisingly not very painful just kind of weird in the parts where I felt a lot of vibration. Laying down definitely helped it took about 2 hours but you really helped me prepare mentally! But I guess it's rare that people find the chest that easy as the other artist and client in the seat next t me were saying so for Anyone thinking about it it is so worth it but I can see where it would potentially hurt horribly depending on tolerance. :)

    This is just about the breathing thing, I have no tattoos at all, but just from singing experience, if you breathe with your "stomach" maybe that would help? Like, breathing with your chest is quite shallow and I can imagine would super not work getting the sternum done, but if your tried breathing with your stomach it might work? I'm not sure!! Just a suggestion so you can get the honeycomb! :)

    I got my first tattoo August 2015 and it was a full foot tattoo and I didn't find it that bad I did have a break. The girl who did was Medea at ink-tegrity in Kingston , Ontario and she was amazing. She was very understanding and helped me through the tattoo when the pin in my foot began to become uncomfortable. She has since done my wrist and this summer is doing my ankle. I love tattoos and would recommend them to anyone. I wish I would have found your videos before I got my first tattoo I have learned so much and I feel more prepared for my next one. Thank you ☺️ ps your cat is adorable 😻😺

    I just got my first tattoo of a hummingbird on my ribs and I didn't think the pain was that bad at all! I brought my best friend and she kept me talking the whole time. When it got too bad I moved my leg back and forth to get a physical release for the pain. I have a very high pain tolerance though.

  • @mythgirl123456789
    @mythgirl123456789 8 лет назад

    I got my first tattoo a couple weeks ago. I have low pain tolerance and I hate needles. I went in with a lot of excitement. I just told myself it wouldn't be that bad, and it wasn't! It was just a small quote on the inside of my upper arm. I ended up tolerating the pain pretty well because my friend was there to chat with me. I also chatted a bit with the artist. I had to just immediately get over my fear of needles, and I was able to do that with distraction and of course breathing. The closer it got to my armpit, the more I had to just focus on breathing. There was one point where it felt like a knife going into my arm. My nerves were also odd, like I had a short spasm in my stomach! Always worth it, though. I can't wait to get more in the future!

  • @johnlewis1078
    @johnlewis1078 8 лет назад +3

    It might sound weird, but every time I have been tattooed I focus my mind on the exact area being completed in order to turn the feelings of pain into anything different (such as warmth, tingling, or just plain numb). This was especially the case under my biceps and near the wrist bones... those areas were more painful than anticipated. But like you said, you don't have to be a tough person to endure it. Everyone has different tolerance levels & if you really want that ink, then you'll get it done regardless.
    Another great video, Ms Qcknd!

    Damn girl, you are hard-core! I had a tattoo that took 9 hours that we did in one session, on my inner bicep that after about 6 hours was getting super painful. With the last hour and a half creeping into my armpit. And that was a whole new level of pain for me getting tattooed. Before that my sternum/stomach was to worst tattoo pain for me until this experience with my inner bicep/armpit. And it not only was super intense in the armpit, but I could feel the pain running through my entire body. My calfs in my legs and my abs were super sore the next day from how much I had tensed up from the pain of my armpit while trying to sit still for my artist. If it wouldn't have been the last hour and a half, I would have tapped out for sure. I've got tattoos all over my body. I would consider myself heavily tattooed before I got that tat done. And to hear you went in to intentionally get your armpit done, makes me sore just thinking about it.

    For my left outer arm my tattoo artist had me sitting comfortable and it barely hurt. For my right the artist hand my arm in a position where my hand kept falling asleep and it was a brutal four hours. Totally depends on how comfortable you are!

    new intro looks great! foot and near elbow ditch have definitely been the worst so far. radiating pain is so real, my side/rib tattoo was like that...the closer it got to my stomach and fleshier parts, pain would go to my center on front and back, but i'd do that again over the bits near my elbow ditch any day.
