I love re-watching these older videos because there were so many iconic looks for the guys. RM and Jhope both received hate because they didn’t fit Korean Beauty standards which is why you see RM in sunglasses and Jhope often has a mask on. But also, BigHit was definitely obsessed with Jimins arms cause every outfit he had for this era was sleeveless 😂 And then of course Suga in his skirts. Iconic. 🙌🏻
Suga’s skirts were so fashionably forward. He was ahead of his time. I love that he repeats this style in modern times with his PTD Black Swan skirt and the LV skirt in Vogue.
First off--remember those hands in the sand. You will see them again but I did not hear one reactor notice that later on. Since they started out as a hip-hop group, they sounded very different. V is growly, Jimin is in his lower register and JK was an amazing rapper. ARMYs have been asking for him to rap again for years. Maybe on the new album?? Remember, JK was in Middle School, and V and Jimin were in High School when they debuted. I don't know if you heard, but yesterday was the Met Gala, and every year VOGUE chooses the best dressed. This year it was JIMIN, even though he didn't go to the Met Gala. Vogue said that he was so well dressed at the Tiffany Celebration (He is Tiffany's spokesmodel) and all around town, that they had to award him the win. (I also think it's a slam to the Met for not inviting him, but that discussion is for another time.) He wore a vintage Valentino Tux, no shirt, and a huge diamond pin and looked amazing at the Tiffany gathering last week. The president of Tiffany's must have looked into Jimin's eyes because I could see when he spoke that he was Jim-in He was gushing. That's our Jimin. 💜👀
Bravo to Vogue, I thought Jimin was just busy elsewhere. Bit of a lol moment, though, Jimin was wearing Valentino? I wonder what Christian Dior had to say about that. Really dangerous, looking into Jimin's eyes - he has the flirtiest eyes in the group.

I love this idea... with more reactors covering newer BTS discography and their solo material, it's so great to see reactors actually go through the boys' MVs from the beginning. Their discography is extensive, but the number of MVs are manageable to cover and enough to notice their improvement within time. And given all the work that they have put in them, it is nice to be appreciated by others. 💜

What a nostalgia trip! BTS debuted the summer before I started high school, so their messaging with these three songs really resonated with me in my first year. I remember including "N.O." for our Halloween Pep Rally dance mix (the Freshman Division was given "Nightmare Before Christmas" as our theme so I choreographed a story where Oogie Boogie had the dancers "captured" and I spliced part of the chorus in to represent them breaking out). At the time, no one at my high school knew who BTS was, but during the Senior Farewell Rally, my friends and I danced to "Blood, Sweat and Tears" and a lot of people in the auditorium were singing along. Seeing and having the honor of witnessing their growth in the industry is such a humbling experience. I look forward to seeing you react to more of their discography and music videos! When they debuted, the edgier style they were going for as a more hiphop idol group led to the singers being labeled bad singers. This galvanized the vocal line to really double down on their vocal training. Jungkook went and participated in Masked Singer to just prove that BTS had real singers. Jin, Jimin and V all really worked hard to improve their vocals. Jin worked so hard that his vocal teacher said that he completely transformed his voice. Jimin took the criticism hardest, even by the time he was doing Serendipity, he was really insecure that he was good enough. Thankfully, ARMY showed him just how good he was.
Totally here for this series!!! Chronological, let's gooooo!!! When they started, the company was leaning pretty hard into the "hip-hop" image, so Rap Monster (then) was given the sunglasses and hairstyle to reflect that (and got a lot of hate for it, too). Suga went heavy on the bling, and Hobi sneered a lot. Kookie rapped, Jimin was leaning into the stereotypical "Busan tough guy" image (and oh yeah, those abs), and Jin and V both were using a much rougher vocal style. I feel like, as this goes on, we'll get to see them transforming into something that's more natural to them. (RM didn't need the sunglasses and hairstyle to BE hip-hop.) All of that aside... when I first listened to their early albums, I was honestly shocked to hear one banger after another. I know of PLENTY of artists who have maybe one or two breakout songs on their debut albums and a lot of "meh" as they work on defining their sound. BTS didn't have that. They were going hard from the get-go.

Thank you for this reaction, John. Excellent idea, going through their mv's chronologically, I'm fully on board on this journey! I love watching their early work and the fierce, hard driving hip hop sound of their earliest songs. The boys took no prisoners straight out of the gate and I can only admire the excellence of their mv's considering how meagre their budget was in the early days and staff had to double as characters in their mv's. In the first episodes of The Rise of Bangtan, we see their video diaries and it always struck me how very tired they looked. Watching the boys develop and grow will be such a pleasure.

Two years ago these were the first videos I ever saw. I was even more amazed how young they all were and especially that Jungkook was the youngest at only 15. I realised then if they were this good I would watch more of their videos and I did. Now I watch something of theirs every day and it makes this old lady smile. 👵💜
The funny thing is.... Jin was the only ADULT at the time. I've watched a lot of these numerous times and the different showcases they did to be taken seriously. They have worked really HARD since day one! The biggest improvements are Jin, Jimin and V. The others were outstanding and didn't struggle except for RM dancing but his rapping has been top tier always. Jin did his job as the visuals of the group. Hard to believe they almost dropped Jimin 8x and SUGA about 4x before debut. They wanted Jimin to rap but SUGA was telling them to stop it and let him be a dancer and singer instead. Re: RM glasses... he has an eye condition.
I love that you're doing this! BTS has made me a convert to so many things I never thought I would be listening to as a 66 year old woman! But when I went back and started listening to their early work, I felt like it was just as good as any of their current work. I'm in love with them, and I love everything they have done! I have watched your reactions for a while, but I like this new series. It's a refresher course. I began in 2016. I was 63. Already familiar with other groups & a lot of dramas/music. If I had started in 2013, I probably wouldn't be the fan I am today. I would not have seen their potential. The member's odyssey is inspiring. My husband once asked our son if he ever thought his mom would be listening to K-Pop. Funny.
Flexing their abs was a K-pop thing in those years. But rapidly they wanted to be 'Army 's friends' and not being considered 'boyfriends'.(not being sexualized) That's why they (their company always put 'stickers' on the slightest part of skin in their documentaries. And that's why Army was so stoked when Chapter 2 started! 🫣😉😂

This “gonna be a great ride”! While I’ve seen these videos before, I haven’t watched them chronologically, so I am really anticipating this terrific voyage. Thanks so much for this concept! One comment which I almost never read is the fact that Suga is wearing a skirt in the first two videos. Even then they were subtly advocating. I also like that those videos were in black and white. For me that emphasizes the “toughness” of their messages.

I absolutely love early BTS music! You can definitely feel the inspiration from H.O.T, a first generation kpop boy group that also was very hip hop inspired, like even the bass line you mentioned in No More Dream is very close to and definitely inspired by the baseline of H.O.T’s song Descendants of Warriors, so if you wanna listen to some more kpop music of that same vibe, (that is first generation) I really recommend checking out H.O.T! There are some remastered music videos of some of their title tracks on SM’s channel and it’s so nice to see these 90s music videos in HD

But there is a lot of great B Sides in their albums with no MV. So please, listen to each full album, even if you don't react to them. And maybe, you could sometimes intertwin someB Side Live performance ? Just a suggestion , but you can't miss Born singer 2015 or 2017 (or 2022 Lol ! ) , Tomorrow 2015, at the Picnic Live MBC, House of Card, the Truth Untold, the Cyphers, Am I wrong, First love and so on.... Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. I am so happy John that u reacted the same as me on 1st listen/watch. This is such a bop. A hit for sure. So catchy. I loved it and i was so surprised. I don't usually like rap. Great song! JK rapping is chef's kiss. When I 1st heard this i was like oh i like this. This one is a hit. Remember BTS debuted as a hip hop group. Their debut songs were catchy and they were cute. The rapline had promise. Yes, JK is a sub rapper. If u love rap and have listened to it all ur life u can see this is cringe. But for us who are not rap fans we liked this. It was catchy and still is catchy. I listen to all their rap and i don't even like rap like that. Listen to Tony Montana by Suga ft. Jimin pls. It was a special gift to us a few yrs back. Jimin can rap. They all can. And it's been almost 10 years since debut. snorts. Back than they did as the agency suggested. They did not know what they were doing. But they worked hard. Going to America during American Hustle Life they learned what real rap is. They grew from that experience a lot. They all trained for 3 years except Jimin. Jimin trained 6-8 months. Than they practice for this stage for 3 months. 12-16 hrs daily. They run on treadmills while singing. They had passion. They had drive and yeah they were angry. But they worked so hard and true army noticed. They grew slow and steadily but they always had more ppl then they predicted show up to concerts and other stuff. They truly are a gem of a group. =0} Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟 Aishwarya Kabra said on 12/20/22 SUGA's "I wanna big house, big cars and big rings" is so iconic. He reused it so many times and each time with different meaning behind it. Morgan Graves said on 12/20/22 One of my favorite quotes was when the boys were watching their debut stage and Hobi said “You can see the passion in our eyes” & Tae in all seriousness replies “It’s the eyeliner” 😂. As you know, the members were extremely young when they first debuted and most of them were still in school and kids. Their first three albums heavily focused on the school education system, childish innocent teenage love, and struggles that the youth have to go through because the boys have experienced that sort of thing themselves. They wanted to relate and protect the youth. Once you go through more of the albums you'll notice the older they get, the more mature the themes will get and so will the messages. Eva Stokes said on 10/20/22 Actually the first verse is the first verse of Suga's part in the first song "No More Dream" RM says 'What's your dream' then Suga says 'I want a big car, big house big rings' which he goes on to repeat in several songs. As the second song "N.O" was not only a comment on the Korean Educational System like others have commented but on something that RM has also spoken about that was he stopped dreaming when he was in middle school and lived a life for his parents dreams. This song speaks to that loss of dreams during youth. Their parents dream of going to university in Seoul (SKY = Seoul's very famous Universities best in the nation). Just an aside as the stairs are reused in an award ceremony performance so are the hands you see, they were used on a performance of "Fake Love" during an award ceremony. They are masters of using things over and over to remind you that this all flows together be it music, lyrics or even props. I think that is why so many are surprised that BTS spent so much time on sets as opposed to CGI. Sets they can use again and for a group that worked with little to no funds that was important early on. And yes ON is related to NO as it is a call to bring it on that they BTS will continue to buck the system and work hard for their dreams. It is a masterpiece of a song and one of the beginnings of the BTS Universe. Just so you know you have now officially gone down the BU path. Welcome and enjoy. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

What a nostalgia trip! BTS debuted the summer before I started high school, so their messaging with these three songs really resonated with me in my first year. I remember including "N.O." for our Halloween Pep Rally dance mix (the Freshman Division was given "Nightmare Before Christmas" as our theme so I choreographed a story where Oogie Boogie had the dancers "captured" and I spliced part of the chorus in to represent them breaking out). At the time, no one at my high school knew who BTS was, but during the Senior Farewell Rally, my friends and I danced to "Blood, Sweat and Tears" and a lot of people in the auditorium were singing along. Seeing and having the honor of witnessing their growth in the industry is such a humbling experience. I look forward to seeing you react to more of their discography and music videos! He was really excited when he got contacts & talked about the "upgraded" vesrion of himself during a live when he 1st could appear to us wirhout his glasses. (If im remembering correctly 😊)

When they debuted, the edgier style they were going for as a more hiphop idol group led to the singers being labeled bad singers. This galvanized the vocal line to really double down on their vocal training. Jungkook went and participated in Masked Singer to just prove that BTS had real singers. Jin, Jimin and V all really worked hard to improve their vocals. Jin worked so hard that his vocal teacher said that he completely transformed his voice. Jimin took the criticism hardest, even by the time he was doing Serendipity, he was really insecure that he was good enough. Thankfully, ARMY showed him just how good he was.
No is so freaking powerful! It’s crazy that a bunch of teenagers did all this. It’s no surprise they became what they became.

When they started, the company was leaning pretty hard into the "hip-hop" image, so Rap Monster (then) was given the sunglasses and hairstyle to reflect that (and got a lot of hate for it, too). Suga went heavy on the bling, and Hobi sneered a lot. Kookie rapped, Jimin was leaning into the stereotypical "Busan tough guy" image (and oh yeah, those abs), and Jin and V both were using a much rougher vocal style.
I feel like, as this goes on, we'll get to see them transforming into something that's more natural to them. (RM didn't need the sunglasses and hairstyle to BE hip-hop.) All of that aside... when I first listened to their early albums, I was honestly shocked to hear one banger after another. I know of PLENTY of artists who have maybe one or two breakout songs on their debut albums and a lot of "meh" as they work on defining their sound. BTS didn't have that. They were going hard from the get-go.

Thank you for this reaction, John. Excellent idea, going through their mv's chronologically, I'm fully on board on this journey! I love watching their early work and the fierce, hard driving hip hop sound of their earliest songs. The boys took no prisoners straight out of the gate and I can only admire the excellence of their mv's considering how meagre their budget was in the early days and staff had to double as characters in their mv's. In the first episodes of The Rise of Bangtan, we see their video diaries and it always struck me how very tired they looked. Watching the boys develop and grow will be such a pleasure.

Two years ago these were the first videos I ever saw. I was even more amazed how young they all were and especially that Jungkook was the youngest at only 15. I realised then if they were this good I would watch more of their videos and I did. Now I watch something of theirs every day and it makes this old lady smile. 👵💜
The funny thing is.... Jin was the only ADULT at the time. I've watched a lot of these numerous times and the different showcases they did to be taken seriously. They have worked really HARD since day one! The biggest improvements are Jin, Jimin and V. The others were outstanding and didn't struggle except for RM dancing but his rapping has been top tier always. Jin did his job as the visuals of the group. Hard to believe they almost dropped Jimin 8x and SUGA about 4x before debut. They wanted Jimin to rap but SUGA was telling them to stop it and let him be a dancer and singer instead. Re: RM glasses... he has an eye condition.
Weren't the only minors Jimin, V, and Jungkook considering RM, J-Hope, Suga, and Jin were 18 and over at the time?
I love that you're doing this! BTS has made me a convert to so many things I never thought I would be listening to as a 66 year old woman! But when I went back and started listening to their early work, I felt like it was just as good as any of their current work. I'm in love with them, and I love everything they have done! All of it is such a treat to watch anytime.

I have watched your reactions for a while, but I like this new series. It's a refresher course. I began in 2016. I was 63. Already familiar with other groups & a lot of dramas/music. If I had started in 2013, I probably wouldn't be the fan I am today. I would not have seen their potential. The member's odyssey is inspiring. My husband once asked our son if he ever thought his mom would be listening to K-Pop. Funny.
Flexing their abs was a K-pop thing in those years. But rapidly they wanted to be 'Army 's friends' and not being considered 'boyfriends'.(not being sexualized)
That's why they (their company always put 'stickers' on the slightest part of skin in their documentaries.
And that's why Army was so stoked when Chapter 2 started! 🫣😉😂

This “gonna be a great ride”! While I’ve seen these videos before, I haven’t watched them chronologically, so I am really anticipating this terrific voyage. Thanks so much for this concept! One comment which I almost never read is the fact that Suga is wearing a skirt in the first two videos. Even then they were subtly advocating. I also like that those videos were in black and white. For me that emphasizes the “toughness” of their messages.

I absolutely love early BTS music! You can definitely feel the inspiration from H.O.T, a first generation kpop boy group that also was very hip hop inspired, like even the bass line you mentioned in No More Dream is very close to and definitely inspired by the baseline of H.O.T’s song Descendants of Warriors, so if you wanna listen to some more kpop music of that same vibe, (that is first generation) I really recommend checking out H.O.T! There are some remastered music videos of some of their title tracks on SM’s channel and it’s so nice to see these 90s music videos in HD
I'm so happy that you decided to react to thei MV in chronological order, because their discography is such a testimony of their growth as men and artists ! But there is a lot of great B Sides in their albums with no MV. So please, listen to each full album, even if you don't react to them. And maybe, you could sometimes intertwin someB Side Live performance ? Just a suggestion , but you can't miss Born singer 2015 or 2017 (or 2022 Lol ! ) , Tomorrow 2015, at the Picnic Live MBC, House of Card, the Truth Untold, the Cyphers, Am I wrong, First love and so on.... This chronological journey is a terrific idea! Thanks John! They started out as a rap group which is the reason for the harder edge. However they weren't getting much traction so they released a ballad and boom they were on their way!

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. I am so happy John that u reacted the same as me on 1st listen/watch. This is such a bop. A hit for sure. So catchy. I loved it and i was so surprised. I don't usually like rap. Great song! JK rapping is chef's kiss. When I 1st heard this i was like oh i like this. This one is a hit. Remember BTS debuted as a hip hop group. Their debut songs were catchy and they were cute. The rapline had promise. Yes, JK is a sub rapper. If u love rap and have listened to it all ur life u can see this is cringe. But for us who are not rap fans we liked this. It was catchy and still is catchy. I listen to all their rap and i don't even like rap like that. Listen to Tony Montana by Suga ft. Jimin pls. It was a special gift to us a few yrs back. Jimin can rap. They all can. And it's been almost 10 years since debut. snorts. Back than they did as the agency suggested. They did not know what they were doing. But they worked hard. Going to America during American Hustle Life they learned what real rap is. They grew from that experience a lot. They all trained for 3 years except Jimin. Jimin trained 6-8 months. Than they practice for this stage for 3 months. 12-16 hrs daily. They run on treadmills while singing. They had passion. They had drive and yeah they were angry. But they worked so hard and true army noticed. They grew slow and steadily but they always had more ppl then they predicted show up to concerts and other stuff. They truly are a gem of a group. =0} Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

One of my favorite quotes was when the boys were watching their debut stage and Hobi said “You can see the passion in our eyes” & Tae in all seriousness replies “It’s the eyeliner” 😂.
By the way, RM wore glasses because ppl did not like his eyes. We love his dragon eyes and we are glad he stopped letting others affect him so. Also, i think he had eye surgery. There is a live where he says he can see us better. Something like that.

I feel like BTS started a conversation with ppl and they have been talking to us for 3 albums straight about the same topic. It's mind boggling but so cool. So glad u liked this. I love this song. Just like a few people already mentioned but bts and their albums basically grew along with the members. As you know, the members were extremely young when they first debuted and most of them were still in school and kids. Their first three albums heavily focused on the school education system, childish innocent teenage love, and struggles that the youth have to go through because the boys have experienced that sort of thing themselves. They wanted to relate and protect the youth. Once you go through more of the albums you'll notice the older they get, the more mature the themes will get and so will the messages.

Actually the first verse is the first verse of Suga's part in the first song "No More Dream" RM says 'What's your dream' then Suga says 'I want a big car, big house big rings' which he goes on to repeat in several songs. As the second song "N.O" was not only a comment on the Korean Educational System like others have commented but on something that RM has also spoken about that was he stopped dreaming when he was in middle school and lived a life for his parents dreams. This song speaks to that loss of dreams during youth. Their parents dream of going to university in Seoul (SKY = Seoul's very famous Universities best in the nation). Just an aside as the stairs are reused in an award ceremony performance so are the hands you see, they were used on a performance of "Fake Love" during an award ceremony. They are masters of using things over and over to remind you that this all flows together be it music, lyrics or even props. I think that is why so many are surprised that BTS spent so much time on sets as opposed to CGI. Sets they can use again and for a group that worked with little to no funds that was important early on.
And yes ON is related to NO as it is a call to bring it on that they BTS will continue to buck the system and work hard for their dreams. It is a masterpiece of a song and one of the beginnings of the BTS Universe. Just so you know you have now officially gone down the BU path. Welcome and enjoy. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Sobre las gafas de Rm hay dos versiones (no me consta cual de las dos es correcta): la primera es que Rm lidiaba con mucho hate por no entrar en los estandares de belleza (le decian cosas feas sobre su rostro) y la segunda dicen que es porque asi era el concepto del album "chicos rebeldes y duros"
