I disagree that season 2 feels more connected. Whitestone felt like one continuous experience while this one was more "plot of the week". What you might be referring to is probably that in this season everything seemed to have a single goal in mind, so perhaps every "side-quest" felt more objective-oriented? Regardless, really cool analysis and breakdown of the season. The dragons definitively deserve the spotlight, the black one in particular. The blue one from season one seemed more like an indie studio's first attempt at 3D CGI.
Maybe, it's something that I myself can't understand really well. Maybe I'd need some distancing from the show before I can tell if it truly has a better continuity between episodes or not. I can be nostalgia goggles as well, I really enjoyed this part of the campaign back then.
