    As you have said before, wearing sunglasses outside may help prevent cataracts. I would like to see more research for diet, especially limiting sugars and franken-chemicals. Also eating no added sugar pineapple and its effect on preventing or clearing floaters, that became a problem for both of my eyes in my early 50s. A more radical topic now more legal in Oregon and Colorado is how micro dosing the Golden Teacher magic mushrooms affects eyes, some including me have noticed vision and hearing improvement, possibly the placebo effect. See the Fadiman videos on RUclips about micro dosing, especially the side effect for people born color blind.

    Hello Doctor Lee. Thanks for sharing your video. Last week i had a checkup with a doctor at the Ophthalmologist Office that I've been going to since 2013. He confirmed with exam and 5 tests that my cataracts are increasingly worse since my last checkup 6 months ago. The doctor said I'm able to have surgery according to health insurance guidelines. My concern is the fact that I've had retinal tearing in right and left eyes. The laser repair was done by the doctor/owner of the group practice. The partner who examined my eyes last week said that I'm a complicated patient and i need to be seen by the senior doctor. I'm very frightened to have the surgery. A relative as well as many friends have just had cataract surgery with great success, none having previous surgery such as myself. I would appreciate your opinion on this matter. Thank you very much ❤

    Great content Dr. Michele Lee!!! Can you suggest the IOL options for those of us in a situation that have high conrneal astigmatism (3.5D) but would also like some EDOF ability. Is the technology there yet or available? Keep up the good work!

    • @MicheleLeeMD
      @MicheleLeeMD  Год назад +2

      Most multifocal and EDOF lenses come with astigmatism correction if needed. If your astigmatsm is regular (not asymmetric) you should be OK. I would consult with your surgeon to make sure you are a good candidate for an EDOF.

    What do you do for patients that have a lot of anxiety about this surgery? Doctor suggested I get it done but I usually don’t have anxiety but with this just wow I can’t see me getting thru this being awake.

      You can get a pill right before the surgery that makes you chill. On the other hand, you can't see anything during the operation, just lying there, staring into a bright light, have no idea whatsoever about what is happening till it's done. Slightly unconfortable, but does not really hurt. You won't see any tools or anything, only ligths and shapes, can't even tell if they even touched your eye or not. Don't stress, it will be fine!

      @@MicheleLeeMD I selected the Eyhance lens for my cataract surgery next month. My surgeon uses this monofocal lens all the time .I do have Pseudoexfoliation so this will be a complicated surgery I also selected the ORA measurement system since I have had Lasik surgery over 20 years ago. I know the outcome will vary due the many lens calculations that must be done and because of my Lasik surgery .

    I'm convinced my symptomatic cataract is a result of debris from a vitreous hemorrhage and 3 vitrectomies last year. The surgeon never saw a completely detached retina but 1st surgery he felt he evacuated "90%" of the hemorrhage and left a gas in the vitreous to prevent retinal detachment which he said would dissipate over a few days. POD#6 I did not eat before this appt bc it was the first time to experience painful symptoms and vision had regressed. They put in more gas in the vitreous in clinic. I was told at the next postop visit that they would evacuate the last of the hemorrhage and I could get back to exercising about 2 wks after this procedure. The day AFTER the 2nd procedure a doctor from the group but not involved in the procedure informed me that the gas in the vitreous had been replaced by an oil and would require yet another surgery to be removed. At the end of the 3rd procedure, the surgeon was pretty certain my cataract would have to be replaced with an artificial lens and likely the other eye would need the same procedure soon afterwards as it may lose focus adjusting to the new lens in the other eye. I am a health-care provider myself and my near vision detail is good. I don't want to lose that. My question is if the vision disturbance is due to debris on the surface of my lens, wouldn't it be safer to proceed directly to the YAG procedure to clean it up as is done on a replacement lens that gets scarred? Wouldn't there be less disruption of the ciliary muscles required for fine focus? Any thoughts or corrections of my misperceptions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dr. Lee, I'm getting the surgery in November. I'm glad I found your videos; there's so much more info than my cat surgeon has talked about. I have what's called a 'macular pucker', an odd term for sure. What do you know about this? Any advice on which direction to go? I'm thinking distance and reading glasses, but since I had Lasik done in 2000, your video on LAL was very interesting. I think you said the toric lens was good for those who have had lasik. I'm 75, on Medicare and those other lenses are pretty expensive. Is it possible to have toric in one and a regular lens in the other?

    Hi, Dr. Lee. I recently saw my Ophthalmologist because my cataracts are worse-I cannot drive at night due to glare and light sensitivity. I learned that I am not a good candidate for cataract surgery at this time.
    Imagine looking at a clock, I cannot see anything from 4:00 - 7:00. The best he can get my vision with glasses is 20/50.
    He said my astigmatism is too severe, I have dry eye disease, recurrent corneal erosion, and saccades (saccades and light sensitivity for are from a car-related TBI).
    Can you tell me if there are any options that can help me?
    Thank you,

    Thank You for the excellent videos on cataract surgery! I had cataract surgery on both eyes in the past year and unfortunately the retina tore and detached on my left eye. I am a young male and still active in life.
    My retinal surgeon was great She seems confident I will regain vision in my left eye within a few weeks. My 2 questions are will I need to get cataract surgery again because I heard retinal tears/detachment speed up the need for cataract surgery? The next question is since I am still young is it possible if my vision does not return to the amazing result I had after my cataract surgery can I get a new lense put in to improve the vision since the retinal detachment?
    Thank You for amazing videos and caring for Us who want to have good vision!

      I'm so sorry to hear about your retina issues after surgery. We usually do cataract surgery once, since once your cataract is removed you don't need to get it again. Definitely discuss with your cataract or retina surgeon what factors are contributing to your blurriness and whether it may improve over time. Best of luck!

    Are there any special considerations or complication associated with patients that have DRS (retraction syndrome) with the eye? Doses the constant movement of the eye cause issues requiring special considerations or increased risk? I asked this in another video but was not sure it was seen. Thank you.

    Dear Doctor
    I had a blunt force injury (a string hit my right eye ball, only the eye ball). Ophtalmologist examined my eye: no damage. However, since then (16 days ago) I have developed a constant pressure in the right temple, eye pain and pain radiation from eye to back head. The Ophtalmologist could not explain why. Could the schock wave have irritated/damaged the trigeminal or any other nerve causing me these symptoms?

    Doctor my Mothers had a traditional Cataract Surgery done by hand. Post Surgery, Docter told us to put Prednisolone eye drops every hour for the first week. Thats about 12-14 eye drops per day. Every 2 hours for second week 6-8 drops per day. 4 times a day for the 3rd week and 2 times per day for the fourth week.
    Doctor also told to use Moxifloxacin eye drops every 2 hours 6-8 times a day. 4 times a day for the additional 4 weeks. Isn't this a very high dose? What would you recommend? I'm worried for side effects due to over use of the medication specially the steroid.

    I understand that after a cataract surgery, one must not put pressure on the operated eye.
    What if the patient has chronic severe constipation, wouldn't this put serious pressure on the eye and make the patient unsuitable for such operations?
    With regard to using eye drops for clearing cataracts, I understand that someone has developed Lanosterol for it, however it was not very workable and the project was shelved.
    What are the latest developments in this area.
    I noticed that a search of the Internet brings up lots of claims about other eyedrops that are supposed to be successful! What is your opinion of such claims?

    • @MicheleLeeMD
      @MicheleLeeMD  Год назад +2

      Great question! I would ask your eye surgeon if they have any specific recommendations, but I typically tell my patients to stay in town for a week after surgery in case there are any issues. There are no other official restrictions from flying, unless you have a complication and end up getting other procedures that do have a restriction. Hope that answers your question!

      @@MicheleLeeMD Yes thx! Aloft cabin air pressure is around 6-7,000 feet so not only reduced O2, but also quite dry. So, holding off for a week sounds prudent!
