- Like most winter sports, speed skating is another activity that Norway tends to excel at. Essentially ice skating done fast, speed skating is an Olympic sport where competitors race around an ice covered track to achieve the fastest time.
We had Norwegian women’s speed skating pro Aurora Lovas to show us the ropes. She’s won various speed skating world championships and has her sights set on the 2026 Winter speed skating Olympics, so we were in safe hands.
At the iconic ‘Vikingskipet’ Olympic ice skating training centre in Hamar, Norway, is where a lot of professional ice skaters and speed skating go to train, as it has as a full sized speed skating short track.
There’s also a large crossover between ice skating and skating skiing, so this was the perfect opportunity to practice our skating exercises and techniques for both. Speed skating was a fun but very hard sport, but speed skating is something we 100% want to try again.
We were amazed at how fast these speed skaters can fly around the track, and Aurora definitely proved her expertise with a race at the end.
Will our Half british and half dutch speed skating champion show skills like the famous Jutta Leerdam short track champion? Or he will he even break the record of the short track speed skating champ Kjeld Nuis?
When it comes to speed skating women, Aurora Løvås is the big Speed skating short track olympic hope of norway. The speed skating woman of norway are not to be messed with.

I'm afraid she has better quads than all you guys put together. But well done and very entertaining, guys :)
Haha Yeah she could squat a tank🥁
Good training. When i was young and began speedskating sport, i was the same. Best regards from Russia!
Very Good training indeed!
Well done guys ! Very entertaining ...has inspired me to get back on skates
the Kangaroo started off very promising (for a first time EVER on skates. Really good !)
The exact amount of encouragement he needs🦘🧊
@@Becomenorwegian coming from a Dutchie. (Speedskate crazy country).😉
Alistair, you're half Dutch it will be in your DNA!😉
He showed some impressive skills, definitely not the British side that was helping him that day🇳🇱🌷
Don't try for the Olympics just yet Angus! x
He is ready for the 2026 Winter Olympics, the hope of Australia🪄
Great job guys. Even though I am from Canada I am not very good at skating. I haven't been on skates since I was a kid haha Cheers
Thanks Bill! Maybe our next episodes is something you are a bit familiar with, good ol cross country skiing⛷️
Hey Angus, I’d be really happy for you to stick with the cross country skiing. A humorous day out though.
Winter Olympics 2026 here we come!
with a standing start I get 39.8 but very well done guys
Hi guys, I am moving to Norway for work and life, can you recommend ice rinks near Eidfjord? Cheers.
That sounds like a lovely decision, unfortunately we are not any experts in ice rinks🥸
Unfortunately no ice rink in Eidfjord. The closest could be in Geilo on the other side of Hardangervidda or in Nordheimsund a little longer west
so cool!
Hi Guys - is there any way to learn the language online? We go to Norway at least once a year and are looking to relocate in the near future.
Sounds lovely, easiest way is obviously to move here😉 but besides that we’ve heard about Lingu.no, which should be good online courses!
Yay i were There 17-19 because it was a race There😀👍
Which world championships did she winj?
To many to write them all but the latest we know she has won is the Junior World championship in Japan at 3.000 meter. The Dutch needs to watch out😏
@@Becomenorwegian And that is the only one.
@@BecomenorwegianWe welcome the competition! Norwegians are our natural speedskating frenemies. 😉 Heya Norge!
I did’nt see her in the world Champions?
Comment: These two youngsters {the adult men who are trying to learn how to skate} should have started at the age of 5. These guys are not going to do a Joey Cheek any time soon.

Hilarious! She's 'only' a junior, but she's like lightning compared to these guys. And just look at her legs and glutes! Already professional speed skater dimensions! Compared to her these guys move on brittle bread sticks! Well, all in good fun. 😁😉
Haha yeah exactly, she will go far! We were doomed from the first seconds on the ice!
