  • Fractal farming is one of the most consistent and profitable types of gold farming in Guild Wars 2. This video covers the advantages and disadvantages of fractal farming when compared to other gold-making options in Guild Wars 2, then goes through all of the information you'll need to do fractal 42 farming effectively. It also includes an in-depth, realistic look at the loot output for the farm. There's even an easier option for less experienced players that still profits quite well. As always, be sure to keep what you enjoy in mind. The highest gold per hour doesn't necessarily mean it's the best farm if you don't like doing it.
    This video ended up being a bit longer than I’d have liked, but it would have been doing a disservice to viewers if I cut any more out of it. Hopefully, it isn’t too bad!

    Data sets for 42 and 18 farms were collected with the following conditions:
    - Permanent account bonuses from 18-20k Achievement Points
    - 300% Magic Find from luck
    - Dragon’s Breath Buns and Scarlet Slaying Potions as the only active consumable boosts of any kind
    - Permanent guild experience buff and experience from kills amulet enrichment (should be your defaults regardless, unless you’re playing WvW)
    - Just to explicitly state, JADE BOT WAS NOT ADDED WHEN THIS DATA WAS COLLECTED, SO THE LOOT DOES NOT INCLUDE JADE BOT BAGS.
    All of the experience boosts are borderline negligible, as they only affect xp from trash mobs in the farm. I couldn’t really remove the magic find for the data collection, so that’s the biggest potential difference between my drops and other player’s drops. It still doesn’t make a very big difference, based on testing I did while using magic find boosts.
    Gold Valuations:
    - Fractal Encryptions were valued based on the value of opening them using stabilizing matrices (generally slightly above 90% of the trading post sell price). The volume of these bought/sold on the trading post isn’t as high as a lot of other items and therefore their prices can be volatile. Therefore, valuing them based on loot from opening is more appropriate than the trading post prices. If you sell these to another player, that’s generally the price you’ll get for them. If you’re buying daily discounted fractal keys, you’ll be earning even more from your encryptions.
    - Green (Masterwork) Gear was valued based on its vendor value. As they have no runes/sigils, it’s generally better to vendor them than to salvage. It also saves a lot of material handling too.
    - Rare/Exotic Gear was salvaged with a Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic and valued based on the material output. Globs of ectoplasm were valued at 90% of the trading post sell price, as they’re one of the few items in the game that can be readily sold for that price and are used in many applications where >90% in value can be easily extracted from them. If you’d really like to value them at 85%, feel free to knock off 20-40 silver from the hourly numbers shown in this video. I value them at 90%.
    - All other items, including raw materials from salvaging rare/exotic gear (mithril etc.), inscriptions/insignias from salvaging exotic gear, cores/lodestones from the end chest, tier 5-6 trophies from trash mobs, and materials from opening loot bags dropped by trash mobs etc. were valued at 85% of their trading post sell prices, as is standard.
    - Once again, JADE BOT WAS NOT ADDED WHEN THIS DATA WAS COLLECTED, SO THE LOOT DOES NOT INCLUDE JADE BOT BAGS. It’s not much, but obviously the jade bot bags can add a little to your total loot. You can see me getting those bags in the video.
    In case anyone was wondering, you get somewhere in the range of 40-50% more rares from 18 than you do from 42, at least with my magic find. You get less greens as well, which leads me to believe that there’s some kind of hidden magic find boosting mechanic with doing lower tier fractals. That might make for a fun research project in the future, but it also sounds like too much work for me to bother doing anything with at the moment.

    I don't want to come off as smug or condescending, so I'll say up front: Thanks for creating GW2 related content, Abree, it is appreciated.
    Having said that, I've been playing Guild Wars 2 since the very beginning,. and I want to warn everyone that the secret to NOT burn yourself while playing is: DON'T farm gold like this for hours. Instead do the profitable dailies (see [fast] website), and you'll see gold accumulate without you having a secondary job in your life.

    • @waqasafzal8181
      @waqasafzal8181 Год назад

      What is the website name to see what gold accumulation is required?

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +3

      Burnout can be caused by very individual factors. A Runescape player trying out Guild Wars 2 might burn out if they DON'T find something a little grindy like this. For me personally, I'd absolutely burn out faster doing IBS strikes or octovine every day than I would doing an hour of this per day. For some players, feeling like they need to do a checklist every day feels more like a chore than farming does.
      Most burnout cases I see involve people lacking a social aspect to playing the game. Either they had a guild environment that fizzled out or they refuse to join a voice chat. I'd never seen a "no mic text channel" before coming back to Guild Wars 2 and I've barely seen any outside Guild Wars 2 Discords since. As much as the game has a lot to do, it doesn't have nearly enough for most players to stick around for years on end without having a social aspect to it. Whenever I'm farming this sort of thing, it's basically 5 friends BSing around in Discord while half-autopiloting. If I had voice chat recorded, I may have included a blooper reel. My favorite part about Guild Wars 2 on launch was how social it was and I think people worried about burnout should consider taking a small leap and joining more voice chats if they're not already.
      That said, this farm is 100% not for everyone. I hadn't intended to ever "start a RUclips channel", just to convert some other work I'd done about the game into video format. There's a reason I started with a daily gold-making guide and why that one has a text format in addition to a video. It's definitely going to be preferential for most players than something like this. That being said, you could also try every meta event that regularly has LFG groups for it and you'll get more gold than you need for most things in the game just off that. Gold doesn't NEED to be something you seek out unless you want to. The subset of people in that boat is much smaller than the subset of casual players, which is why this video was delayed so much.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +1

      It's called the [Fast] Farming website. They have a lot of anecdotal data on a lot of things, so you can get a rough idea on how much you can earn from certain activities.
      I don't necessarily recommend all of their daily stuff (due to effort/time vs. reward), but I do have a daily gold-making video that references their site for a few different daily activities and provides links to specific pages on their site in the description. If you wouldn't consider yourself a "grind" enjoyer in games, I'd thoroughly recommend that video and my open-world farming video instead of this one.

      @@abree107 what i am doing is personally going for Dailies to get 1 gold, then i do the world bosses especially by doing karka queen event and killing veteran karka's to sell karka shells. Aside from that i remember doing tequatl back in the days you would get good amount of gold but i think they changed that, also dungeons use to give a lot of gold as well but for some reason a lot of things have changed. For people such as me its very hard to keep up with farming especially when your goal is to craft or have AT LEAST 1 Legendary Weapon T_T. what i am asking is could you please make a update videos on dungeos world boss those who enjoy pve content to make Gold from those only. That would be highly appreicated.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад

      @@waqasafzal8181 If you're able to clear dungeons really fast with little downtime, they're not terrible gold per hour, but realistically fractals are just better in every way. Just daily CMs + T4s alone is a lot of gold every day. At some point I may cover dungeon profit, because the rates you could get speedrunning aren't half bad, but the demand is a little low on something like that so it would honestly be a while. Fractals fill the spot dungeons once had, except you can just do the dailies, you're not obligated to farm them. Even though fractals are really insane for gold, strikes are also something that give okay rewards and can be done daily too.
      World bosses... They're just bad, unfortunately. There's no way around saying that. Even if you have the timers up and run event to event, the gold per hour for those is going to be fairly low. Back in the day, they were alright, but still outpaced by things like Orr metas, champ trains, Silverwastes, dungeons, etc. Now, they're even more outpaced by a lot of newer map metas/farms you can do. They can be fun to do for nostalgia or for newer players that haven't done them a bunch already, but if gold is your goal, central tyria world bosses are sort of a trap. I do have a video on open-world maps that are good to farm. A lot of the best ones are in living world maps, but there's still stuff you can do in other maps. Even something like the octovine meta in Auric Basin will give better return for your time compared to world bosses.
      In short, there's a lot more PvE options than just dungeons and world bosses, most of them being better options. I'd recommend exploring all of those and seeing if you enjoy any of them.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +2

      It all depends on market prices. The [Fast] Farming site has a page that shows the value of keys, valuing encryptions at buy order (it's the second table on that page, the first one values encryptions at 0). The data used to make that page was compiled by a few friends of mine using 1 million encryptions, so it's probably the most robust and trustworthy data set that will ever be on that site.
      Essentially, the cheaper encryptions go, the more the keys are worth. Right now, encryptions are in a bit of a dip, so I'm guessing it will peg keys around 29-30s. That 4-5s profit is likely worth 1 relic for you, even if you're going for fractal god. In 2 months, the prices may be different, so it's a good idea to check occasionally.
      It's a really good system if you're a regular fractal player, because even though your encryptions are worth less, you recoup that loss because your daily keys are worth an equal amount more.

    @MagicBot.1570 Год назад +1

    Great guide. Still, I don't think the chrono+druid support duo is out of date. Druid just makes the entire experience incredibly smooth, and you can still burst decently well with chrono if you know what you're doing.
    I don't think this matters anymore though, since 2 Bladesworns and a Soulbeast should make short work of this

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад

      I've heard that people like that combo on the EU side, but we don't really see it much on NA. The thing that makes it less preferable in my eyes is the lack of access to large amounts of stability from other options and it also requiring a bit more coordination in CC, rather than 1 person soloing the bar, which allows you to CC at a very consistent time. Chrono is also just limited when it comes to bursting in a few second. I've farmed with a couple of 95-100% bench pChronos back in the day when it was very meta and despite being exceptional players, they couldn't match up to some of the meta power classes for the farm. If you optimized with a chrono/druid support duo, you'd definitely still be able to do alright though, especially if you're running 2 bladesworns and a soulbeast. Bladesworn is just not okay.

    ive heard people also farm 96, Aetherblade, do you have experience how that compares to the 42 farm? Given you have a person that can skip (ideally down to the add clear/bomb area). Asking because i honestly just dont enjoy doing Mai Trin lol.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +4

      Assuming that you also have epic gamers and a similar degree of optimization, 96 is a fair bit better for people without titles and slightly better with God. There's more things in 96 that can quietly lose you time than there are in 42, but even in a slightly scuffed group you'd probably be on par. 96 is something I've wanted to collect data for, but I was taking a break from the game to play Hades when I had an opportunity to. I'll get around to it eventually, but am currently busy working on a different fractal data project for someone else.
      The biggest problems with 96 are the classes that can perform the skip consistently are more limited than the classes you'd be able to use in 42, and then finding groups for that is going to be harder than finding people that understand 42 farm.

      Low level fractals will still provide you with a decent amount of gold. You can enter the tier 1 LFG without any problems and it doesn't require a particularly experienced group to get through. Dailies and octovine meta are also both accessible options that don't require anything special. You could do silverwastes, although the gold per hour there is quite mediocre. Fractals really are the best bet in my opinion though. I would just ignore the farm shown in this video and do the daily ones if I were you.

      Untamed has a lower burst than soulbeast does, is harder/less consistent to pull off than soulbeast, and doesn't have the added condi cleanse that you can get with soulbeast through bear stance. The condi cleanse can help to remove weakness that gets applied a LOT in this fractal, at no DPS loss to a soulbeast. Overall, soulbeast is just better. You CAN play pretty much anything here if youre not concerned about your pace. If you're hoping to get 20+ clears, then I'd advise being a little more picky.

      There's really no intention sway people to less/more popular classes, it's really just about getting the fast clears. You'll notice that DH and Holosmith are on there, despite not being very popular. Some people I was discussing DD with while making the diagram were on the fence on whether or not it should be included at all. DD is actually the reason I decided to make the bottom DPS section. It's not bad, but you do have to keep in mind that "burst" here refers to what you can do in a few seconds, not the first number on the golem. DD can't burst as high as the classes above it, even if you're an absolute pumper on DD. It can do okay, but 3 of them would definitely struggle to do clears at high pace, hence the limiting to 1 class in the bottom section. CMs and T4s are a different story and there's absolutely nothing wrong with playing pDD on everything except 100.

    96 > 42 no? in a good party

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +1

      In a good pre-made party, largely yes. The difference shrinks as you get titles. 18/42 are much easier to find people/groups for, which is why I focused on them for this guide. At least on NA, the only people that do 96 are a couple of very closed farming groups. The only reason I know they exist at all is because I've bought encryptions from some of them in the past. More people are aware of 18/42 and you don't NEED a specific class to do skips efficiently, so it's a bit more accessible on that front. I may put out a 96 guide in the future though.

      @AulisVaara Because my job is salaried and spending more time on your job/career is rarely compensated 1:1 unless you're doing hourly work with no schedule cap or sales. Then you have to consider that most people aren't 100% happy with their job. A grind in a game you enjoy vs. a grind that likely exacts a mental and physical toll on you is a pretty clear difference.
      All of that said, for my case personally, I'm already "grinding" by most people's standards. A full time job, a couple small side hustles, a churning hobby, and actually understanding the financial products/accounts that have massive effects on my life. My discretionary spending is limited to a spotify subscription, a gw2 expansion here and there, and hades 2 when it comes out. Am I supposed to get another job and spend my whole waking life working for extra money I don't have time to spend? Because I'd rather be playing games or spending time with my boyfriend.

    @manuelmusetti5026 Год назад +2

    This is quite ridicolous to be honest...playing the same content over and over should be greatly discouraged, as speed running in general.
    Diminishing returns is the key here: to make fractals healthy again you should get less and less rewards for completing the same fractal level in a day, until you get 0.
    Speedrunning trivialize content and make it appear ridicolous on RUclips for new/external players, split the community between pro, semipro and starters much more than what it normally would be and keep players away form other remunerative contents.
    In a game like GW2, having a reeson for saying "this is a much better farm than others" is a problem.

    • @abree107
      @abree107  Год назад +3

      Nobody in the general playerbase is going to stop playing other content to farm fractals. There's plenty of other options that are viable to make gold with and people that like those more will choose them. People still do octovine and tequatl every day, even though octovine is mediocre for rewards at best and tequatl is just bad for them. The actual gold per hour is not the only thing that matters.
      I simply don't agree with the notion that people should be discouraged from playing the game the way they like, just because someone else doesn't like to play it that way. I believe in giving people options and letting them decide what they think is best for them to pursue. If someone wants a higher intensity, repeatable farm with a competitive gold output, this one serves that purpose. A lot of players don't, hence why the "disadvantages" list I showed was bigger than the "advantages" and why I made sure to say that it's not for everyone. I'm the first person that will tell you to make gold the way you like.

      1. Not everyone works in a country/area that provides that kind of income.
      2. Some people don't have any disposable income to spend (especially GW2, which attracts a lot of people that want to forego games with subscriptions).
      3. Some people would rather play a game for several hours than work a job they hate for one hour to get the corresponding amount of gold. If you enjoy the game and like playing the content, may as well do it and enjoy the process for free.
      Everyone's situation and priorities are going to be different. If you love your job and don't mind spending the extra money, go right ahead.
