  • Today I'll use my John Deere 2038r backhoe to rebuild a retaining wall. My John Deere 2038R is equipped with the 270b backhoe, this compact tractor makes my digging projects so much easier. Combined with the 220r loader there isn't many projects I can't do living in rural Iowa.
    Welcome to my channel, I'm in Dubuque Iowa, and my channel is know as Today in Iowa or Bill Burkhart 1025.Be sure and check out my channel for many videos including the John Deere 1025 tractor backhoe and the many implements I have to maintain my property.
    I'd enjoy hearing your comments, I answer every comment.

    Hi bill, Kenneth from small town Benton Ky. I purchased a 1025r with the backhoe this yr. and I love it, wish I had bought it yrs ago. I was thinking of running a gas line to my shop with the hoe, but after watching videos of guys using a subsoiler to bury lines may go that route doesn't tear up the yard near as bad. it doesn't look near as fun as using the hoe. though LOL.

    I enjoy your videos! I'm literally a day away from buying my own 2038R. I had hemmed and hawed about the backhoe, but my wife actually convinced me to go ahead and get it. I've had the same thoughts about renting, etc., but we aren't currently at our property fulltime, so having the flexibility to use it whenever I want just makes a lot of sense. Currently watching from Dayton, OH!

      Good Morning Little Cabin. Congratulations with your decision to purchase the 2038R, you will not be disappointed, I promise. Celebrate your purchase and go out and get yourself a 5 way and a couple cony dogs at the Skyline or Gold Star near you. 😀
      (My wife is from Cincinnati and I'm from Gallipolis) We don't have those restaurants here 😒
      I believe when you sell the tractor backhoe, you'll recover a large amount of the original backhoe purchase making the actual cost of use...very low.
      Thanks again for your encouraging comments. Contact me if I can help you with your new machine, I'm excited for you! - Bill

    I couldn't agree more with you about hard wiring your alarm. I have hard wires running from my house to the pole barn, to a driveway vehicle sensor, and even to the mailbox door. Wireless is neat but its hard to beat the dependability of a hard wired system.

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  3 года назад

      Hi Chris- The alarm dependability was the issue with me also. Too many false alarms and trouble signals with wireless. I love your idea going to the mailbox, that's an awesome idea! Good to hear from you. - Bill

    Hi Bill. Thanks for the video. I also have a backhoe on my tractor and I am not as you young as I used to be and find the hoe with a 6 inch bucket to be very helpful. You may want to consider talking about an approximate cost savings for each project you do to help people conceptualize the savings with each attachment. That was a decent sized project you just did and I figure you saved a couple $$thousand bucks doing it yourself- at least where I live in crazy California. You also didn’t have to hire out for labor except the wife! Chris.

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  3 года назад

      Hello Chris, I hope you had a safe 4th of July and I have to tell you tracking the cost of these projects is an excellent idea! I'll track the cost of these projects going forward and publish the savings. This should be fun. I'll be sure and recognize you for the idea. You know, even if I could find someone that would be interested in a job like this, you are correct. $2,000 for sure here in Iowa too. I've got about $100 in conduit, and $100 in miscellaneous parts, so we can say we saved $1800.00 so far.............now,............ how I track my wife' time???
      Be safe my friend.

      I have an 8” bucket but chose to use the larger bucket because the heavy clay here sticks in the smaller bucket. Good luck with your project.

    At the time you are sitting off side of your trench. Might try to be more of a 45 degree rather than a 90 degree. At the 45 your backhoe will be able to handle the ditching better. It should be easier to control like if you were straight over the location for your ditch. This way of operating MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE or in every situation.
