I've got a simple question : who owns the rights to a music video once it's done ? Is it the record label ? Is it the production company ? Is it the artist/ band ? That's actually what I was looking for on RUclips when I found this video. So far, I've never directed a music video, but I'd like to. I shot other stuff and I don't feel confident enough for a music video.

it depends on the contract you have with the client. every contract is different

Really enjoyed the video. I hope to make some music videos for my own songs and maybe some of my friends, so this video helped me a lot. Thanks!

An ideas folder is the most valuable tool that a video maker (or any creative) will have. Don't rely on memory. Write ideas down as soon as you have them :)

Great video! Thanks for sharing. How many cameras do you use on a typical shoot and what type of camera do you use? What are your favourite lens to use for music shoots? Thanks in advance.

Rock Jo hi, its really depends on a the shoot, what we are trying to achieve and the budget. for my low budget videos, we use either canon 5d iii, lumix g4, sony nex7. The lumix is great for slow motion as it captures 96fps. With regards lens, always have a standard, wide and a lens with low aperture, f1.8, if possible for those artistic shots. We usually only have one main camera, and a behind the scenes camera, we would use 2 cameras for main filming if we need to capture 2 angles at once. hope that helps :)

First off, thank you so much for replying to my comments. A few questions for you, with the concert designer, what would be the correct name for what you talked about? So If I wanted to look for a job or more research on it I would know the proper name.Secondly, what would be a good way to get exposure to this? Formal education and/or job training. Thanks again.

This sort of role could have many titles, the main one i would be looking out for is 'creative director' as it is quite generic. in my opinion a good portfolio of work is whats expected theses days, education is not always a must, but being able to show your work is a definite!

Question, can being a video director cross over into designing shows at rock concerts? Are they similar?

jackson soloist absolutely.. it all falls into the creative director category.. I have also organised concerts and shows. you have to think about stage design, lights, layout, camera angles, effects, smoke machines, costumes, makeup, choreography and many more. ;)

Everything you mentioned in the beginning of this video, has always come naturally for me. I just had no idea what to do with it. Perhaps I found a new career?
