I forgot to mention that the Cuckoo is a 6 uncooked cups (3/4 of US cups) capacity and the Zojirushi is 5 1/2 uncooked cups capacity. However, at five cups, fluffed rice touches the lid in the Cuckoo. On the other hand, at five cups, fluffed rice does not touch the lid in Zojirushi. There are two timer settings: Timer 1 & 2.
Ann I have to slightly disagree with you on the Cuckoo Rice Cooker. It is harder to use all the functions unless you read the manual. If you read the manual it works well. I agree with you on the pot markings but it’s a non issue for me because I add water first. You have the option of using the world clock or the 12 hour clock. In the manual it clearly says that the 6 cup limit is White Rice only. Everything else is 4 1/2 cups. You complained about how much space the Cuckoo took up with the paddle attached when the Zojirushi took up the same amount of space with the paddle attached. I have left brown rice in the Cuckoo for 5 days and it was still ok . My test for a Rice Cooker is how well it can cook one cup of uncooked rice. Again no matter what Rice Cooker you use. You should never cook with it under a cabinet. I like The Zojirushi also. It seems to me when it comes to Rice Cookers there is 3 tiers. Tier one is Zojirushi, Cuckoo and Tiger (made in Japan or Korea) Tier two is Panasonic, Cuisinart Tier three is Aroma, Rival, any Slow Cooker , Pot on the stove. Tier four is the instant pot.
Very informative! It seems Zojirushi is winner, but it's more expensive thatn other on amazon (the price difference has widened more thatn you mentioned)
Zoh-jee-roo-shee, and you make a good point. The instant pot works well for making rice, but even the non-stick liner tends to leave a lot of grains grabbing it wastefully.
Instant pot is good for other pressure cooking food. IP cannot keep the rice warm without sticking to the bottom. Overtime the top will get soggy from the moisture dripping down.
Thank you Ann Lam for this video info.. Currently am looking at the small rice cooker. Was looking also at the square model from Tiger. Will try again the water level mark on pot, currently using the instructions from the rice packaging. Hopefully will afford to buy that Zojirushi
Hi Make sure to use the cup that comes with the rice cooker and make sure to level the rice on the cup. I use a boba straw to level the rice on the top of the cup.
Thank you for this excellent review of these three rice cookers! I bought a Tiger rice cooker - I like the function, but it also doesn't have handles on the pot, and not as many variations of rice markings in the pot. I've been considering returning it, and was looking at the Cuckoo ones - now I think I might get a Zoji like the one you have.
@@Everyday-Uses I'm considering other Zoji models that can cook gaba rice, if I can find a good deal. But why, oh why don't they have handles on the pots in their other ones? That's such a good feature.
@@Everyday-Uses I actually mean using brown rice on the Gaba setting, which is supposted to germinate the rice. Of course, I could not be lazy and just soak brown rice to germinate, then cook it on the brown rice setting... having just started using a rice cooker has made me so lazy! I was making rice in my pressure cooker before - I disagree with people who like cooking rice in those - rice cookers are the best! I actually like the Tiger one I got a couple of weeks ago. I thought I was getting one made in Japan, but it wasn't. I have a bit of time to decide if I want to keep it.
@@lynneb.3935 Here’s an idea. You can clean the rice and let the rice sit in water inside the rice cooker for the required time to germinate and set the timer to cook certain time.
Thank you so much for the comparisons! I have a smaller 3 cup zojirushi neuro fuzzy and need to go bigger and thought about trying Cuckoo but now I see it would have been a regret! Removable lid to clean is really a must… getting the zojirushi! Curious.. do you ever use the prewashed button?
The Zojirushi cooked all times of rice the best. Black, brown, sweet and sushi rice came out as they should be. I do not have an induction and not intended in buying one. This model is good enough for me within the price range I am willing to pay.
Ok! I will cancel the order for the Cuckoo and pay an extra $30 bucks for the Zojirushi cooker! I appreciate your honesty and EXCELLENT review! ThankYou😊!
I haven't figured out how to make glutinous sweet rice in the Zoji. I followed the instructions according to the manual, but my rice comes out mushy. It's not as chewy and the grains aren't separated like when I steam the glutinous rice. Can you share how you make the sweet rice?
Hi, When cooking sweet rice in a pot instead of steaming, there are many factors to consider. Is it new crop or old? New crop holds more water. Therefore, reduce a tad bit of water. Make sure you level out the rice in the cup with a straight edge. Are you soaking the rice? If you are, make sure you remember how many uncooked rice in order to use the tick mark in the rice cooker. It is better to add less water in the beginning and sprinkle in hot water later to make it less dry.
If you set the timer for cooking the rice, do you store the water and the rice in the cooker? If so, wouldn’t the rice come out mushy from sitting in the water for a long time?
The only way rice would be mushy is if you had more than the required amount of water. If rice sits in water for the duration of the timing, the rice would absorb water and thus making it cook faster. No it will not overcook in the Zojirushi. Yes you must put rice with water in the rice cooker and set the time. Otherwise, rice will not cook.
I bought 110v zoojirushi and 110 to 230 converter. Its functional but everything plus shipping and taxes cost me 800 dollars. Not worth but i wanted it.

Instant pot makes horrible rice. I gave mine to my daughter. Bought a digital aroma Rice Cooker. Way easier to use. Might take longer but I got time 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good advice! I bought a Zojirushi, 230V in Japan and I am very pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the rice! It’s for keeps. My previous rice cooker was a 25 Euro device from the LIDLE, but was a disappointment so I decided to buy a really fantastic cooker. By the way, I will not give this LIDL cooker neither to my son or daughter, since we educated them to be critical and never give away something you don’t want yourself, unless they would indicate that it is acceptable to them.
Instant pot is wonderful for doing pressure cooking things, sauteing, even slow cooking... but it is not too good for rice cooking, in my experience. get both
I was a rice trader for 15 years and leant a lot from that. You can cook rice without using the marking but it is better using it to get the rice perfectly cooked! I have used 4 different brands of rice cooker and I must say Zojirushi is the best (I have no connection to Zojirushi in anyway).
@@ditran2255 I was taught to use the finger method when I was younger, but rice doesn’t come out perfect with different types of rice or when the rice is old and dehydrated. instant pot okay for basic long grain rice. But if you like many types of rice, I think a specialized rice cooker is always best.

How many cups of basmati rice can you cook? I bought one and it was small for my family as we only use basmati rice 😞
For the 5 cups, it can only cook a max of five cups. The measuring cup is included in it. They also sell the 10 cups.
